original cream puff and Dubai Chocolate
    Luis D.

Dubai chocolate was good, just chocolate with pistachios. Filling I chose was salted caramel. tasty and but bot that much better than the chocolate. still good cream puffs.

Next to Blue Bottle Coffee, a nice combo if you're in Old Town Pasadena. The cream puffs have always been fresh and you choose what you want inside along with the classic sugar powder on top. No seating and very small area but you don't really need it for Beard Papa's. Worth checking out.

Delicious cream puffs with different flavor options. Creme brûlée cream puff had a nice burnt sugar shell and filled generously with custard. Would opt for their mini versions of the creme puffs as ratio of filling to shell is better.

6 Pack (vanilla filled)-- Churro (x2), Matcha, Strawberry, S'mores and Original

While shopping in Pasadena we walked by Beard Papa's when my husband mentioned that he has never had their cream puffs -- WHAT?!? So, we immediately went into the small shop and placed an order. We picked up a 6 Pack, all vanilla filled -- Churro (x2), Matcha, Strawberry, S'mores and Original. Service was quick and friendly. The cream puffs were large, fresh and generously filled. My husband loved them! I'm sure he'll be asking for them again.

One of my favorite dessert spots, finally was able to bring my boyfriend and it never disappoints. Definitely going to be coming all the time since we're a bit closer now. The churro puff with vanilla cream is my favorite.

I love beard papa! There is always fun flavors to choose from and it's always delicious! This beard papa is small and usually there is only one employee working there but despite that fact , it's never a long wait!

Let's get right to the point. These bad boys are DELICIOUS! They are delightful, and provide all kinds is satisfying texture experiences. The outside is crispy and light. The filling was cool and thick but not dense. They fill the cream puffs right in the spot. So that keeps the integrity of the doughs texture without getting soggy. There are many flavors and I can't wait to go back and try more. We had the ube which was flavorful and buttery. We also had the churro which had a lighter flavor from the cream inside, but the top had just enough cinnamon and sugar to be sweet but not over the top. We went there after a trip to Cheesecake Factory which is across the street. We parked at the parking structure which was around the corner. There is some street parking though. Go, just go.

Happy National Cream Puff Day! (1/2/24)

I've had Beard Papa's on my local list for ages and finally made my way in for National Cream Puff Day (1/2/24) - the perfect day to visit haha! We tried 5 different flavors and loved them all but the honey butter shell with vanilla filling was our fave! Staff are lovely, they have lots of flavor combinations, prices are reasonable, and these lovely little desserts would be perfect for parties. They have lots of premade cream puffs in various shell flavors available in their cases, all with vanilla filling - but they also offer many different flavors of outer shells that you can combine with any of several choices of filling which ends up giving you tons of different flavor combinations to choose from if that's your thing. I just picked from their premade choices and we were not disappointed. We tried a churro, s'mores, green tea, honey butter, and strawberry and loved them all! But the honey butter was by far our fave. Most of their puffs are full size but they offer several mini flavors too. The outer shells are light and crisp with a slightly sweet flavor. It perfectly compliments the luscious vanilla cream - such a lovely texture and flavor! Next time we visit I'll definitely be trying some other flavor combos with the different cream fillings. They also offer a few other dessert choices besides cream puffs - such as cheesecake and creme brûlée. There aren't any tables inside - this is a grab-and-go kinda place. Prices are definitely reasonable imo, especially considering the area. They're located in the core of busy Pasadena. There are lots of parking garages nearby and the one right next to it on Fair Oaks was free for the short 15 mins I spent there.

    Oreo Crumble Shell

Yummy dessert spot! Came here for some dessert after having dinner nearby and was happy with my purchase. I stopped by around 9pm and ordered a Oreo crumble and another shell though I can't remember what it was since I just gave it to my friend lol. Service was good, both the employees were kind and I had my stuff quickly. The shop is smaller and was pretty empty when I was here, but I've seen it get busy during earlier hours. Cute little spot. The Oreo shell that I had was really good. They are very generous with the cream filling which is really sweet. If you enjoy sweets a lot this spot will be a home run for you for sure. As for me, I enjoyed only half, the whole thing was too much sugar. Recommend to try at least once!

Crispy Almond, Oreo Crumble Shell, Chocolate Eclair Shell, and Strawberry Shell
    Julie S.

Beard Papa's was good, but just didn't quite meet my expectations. Because I'm a chocoholic, the traditional eclair was my favorite - chocolate shell with vanilla filling. However, the vanilla filling completely lacked flavor in my opinion. I tried the chocolate filling in the Oreo shell, and I thought that filling was tastier. I barely tasted any strawberry from the strawberry shell. All in all though, I found eating these to be a complete mess. The shells were just too hard and caused the custard filling to get everywhere when you bite into them. Pro tip: I found that eating them upside down helped a bit! I also think the mini eclairs might be a more enjoyable eating experience for this same reason. I'd probably try those next time, if I return!

A classic with new franchise in Pasadena, with too many choices, but none turning out to be bad.

We should have allowed that to be our indiscretion for the day. But nooooo. Mr. B can smell sinfully yummy calories, even with a bag over his head, a mile away. Their specialty... chocolate croissants. Thus, we let Artisanal Goods lure us in. No parking, way too busy, way too full to seat us, a line bursting out the door, the tiny bakery cafe still seduced us. That is, Mr B circled the block in the car but pushed me out to get in line. It was the idea of a flaky, buttery, chocolate croissant crumbling all over his shirt that made him do it. And I had no intention of saying no. The line went quickly. The last Kouign Amann had just escaped my clutches to the guy in front of me, darn it. But there were still trays upon trays of freshly baked, massive chocolate croissants displayed in their custom, wood display case right next to the register. Sorry about no pictures, but you know how things get out of hand sometimes. However if you want to experience an orgasm in pastry form, I suggest you high tail it here.

The staff was very nice and we ordered the classics. - Croissant : was fresh, flaky and a good size. The only small issue: 20% of it goes on the table as it literally crumbles at each bite. A good croissant should have some elasticity lacking here. - Pain au chocolat: quite large with maybe too much chocolate. But the flavor was on point. I liked it but my wife thought the extra chocolate was too much of the good thing. She reminded me that in the pain au chocolat in France, you actually feel the chocolate under the tooth at each bite. Between the two, I would get the plain croissant next time. Final thoughts: These pastries are more expensive than in other places( pain au chocolat for almost $7 and croissant for $5.5). Would I come back: yes to get the plain croissant.

We chose outdoor since it was such a nice day out. They have all of their desserts on display in the case, so you can peruse the options and see what looks good. So many of the desserts looked good, like the matcha yuzu chiffon crepe cake or the rose and lychee crepe cake. We ordered via the kiosk and got the mango sunshine souffle pancake ($16.50) and well as a couple drinks. My drink was the white peach lemon jasmine bliss ($6.25), with 50% sweetness and less ice. Even though there are signs everywhere saying that it takes 15-20 minutes for the souffle pancakes to be cooked, ours came out super quickly, in 5 minutes or so. We got it with the sauce on the side, but I regret doing that as I saw others getting it with the sauce on top and it was beautiful. The pancake was super fluffy and a bit eggy as well. We all really enjoyed it with the mango sauce. I made the mistake of eating the pancake first before trying a sip of my tea. The pancake was pretty sweet, so I could barely taste my drink, but I think it was good? I could taste a bit of the lemon but definitely not the white peach, which is a lighter flavor. I got a slice of their Hokkaido cheese cake roll for $7 to go and had it the next day. It was okay but definitely a bit pricy for what you get. I'd love to come back to try their other desserts and pancakes!

I ordered a matcha coco jasmine tea and I found that the jasmine flavor completely took over. The oolong peach crepe cake was yummy! It had little peach chunks throughout. Good oolong/peach flavor was light, airy, and slightly sweet. The black sesame chiffon roll was also light and subtly sweet with a nice nutty flavor. The cafe itself was pretty small with 3 small tables, 1 big table, and bar seatings with charging ports. The bathroom was closed and it was really warm inside. I couldn't see myself studying or staying too long, which may be for the best since parking is tricky and street parking has a 2 hour limit. An okay experience, but I don't see myself coming back.
