These cream puffs are something else. On Saturday night this place was packed!!! But understandably. Long line and they ran out of the mini cream puffs around 8pm so we only got 4 of the regular customizable cream puffs. We got 1 original, 1 honey & butter with vanilla filling, 1 chocolate with matcha filling, and 1 matcha with vanilla filling. I HIGHLY recommend the chocolate and matcha combination. The matcha filling was not too sweet and had the perfect flavored matcha and it was so light and creamy. And you cant go wrong with the chocolate on top. I scarfed it down so quickly. If i could i would only get that combination. Our 4 cream puffs came out only 5 min after we ordered so this place is very efficient. Can't wait to get more cream puffs!!! read more

Always loved bearded papas cream puffs and still do! We ordered 6 cream puffs through yelp (grub hub) for pick up so we can minimize time in store and make the process faster. Upon arrival we see a poster that says buy 6 cream puffs and get one free. We asked the cashier girl about this and she said it only works for in store orders or over the phone orders but not for grub hub which was done through yelp. Not sure what difference this makes since it's a free puff at the end of the day. Makes no sense lol. Made their lives easier by ordering online-not waiting in line and asking questions etc but i guesss (girl with hands up emoji). Call us crazy as we just came from a huge dinner, desserts at Mochilato Cafe and then as the ovens with FRESHLY done cream puffs came out, we decided to stuff our faces AGAIN. Those puffs were calling our names. Man we are total suckers for PASTRY anything. Yelp...our noses were leading us to DEATH by DESSERTS! We all ordered 2 each. I know I had no more room in my tummy but I stuffed my face with 2 of them...Vanilla Cream & Green Tea. Beard & Papa's first started in 1999 when Yuji Hirota opened the first Beard Papa's store in Osaka, Japan. They are known as the "World's Best Cream Puffs". They are the only one chain I know that has opened internationally. I've only had the pleasure of having eaten them in San Francisco where they crowds will wait for them to come out of the ovens and followers come in and buy bags of these amazing puffs. I was so happy to see that they are now inside Mochilato Cafe in Irvine. As far as I know...this is DOUBLE THE TROUBLE for sure. Don't come in if you have a weakness for desserts, ice creams, shaved ice! You will hate me for it but LOVE me for telling you about it. I'll take the blame for both. Of course, the nite we come in, their ovens were getting fixed since it stopped working. We saw the technician working hard on fixing it and the lines of ordering was filling up. We decided to order some as well...we didn't plan on moving anywhere for the next 30 minutes. Finally...the words we were waiting for "the oven is fixed!" 16 minutes later, we had our cream puff babies. I got my fix with the Green Tea & Vanilla Puffs. The outer shell has the texture of a pie crust that has the crunchy part and the spongy part inside. 2 amazing layers of pastry and the center always creamy yumminess! This location is limited in the flavors they offer so you might want to call ahead before you think they have all of the flavors. If you've never had their puffs, it's worth the try. read more

I admittedly took this photo after my boyfriend and I had already eaten 2 of these. I had never been here before and my first visit did not disappoint! I absolutely LOVED their cream puffs. The puff itself was light and delicious while the cream was nicely balanced and not too sweet as most pastry fillings usually are. I will definitely be coming back for more of these! My favorites were the ones stuffed with their original vanilla cream so I would definitely recommend those, though the others are also very delicious! Also, have some napkins ready! The cream is piped in FRESH so it can ooze out of the puff when you take a bite. Obviously we had leftovers, so I can say for sure that refrigerating them for a few hours doesn't hurt their flavor and helps the cream firm up if that's the texture you prefer :) read more

Bearded Papas has a great selection of desserts and drinks which I feel are very appealing. They have so many things to try but if you go soley for the cream puff, I do not recomend it. Why? Because they barely have a full inventory of cream puffs! I've came a few times with my freinds to try all the flavors but its hard bc they are always limited. They dont seem to be prepared for busy nights which is surprising. On top of it the wait in the line and the wait to recieve the puff is long. Thankfully they made it a nice place to hang out. I was iffy on whether or not thus place is worth it but this is where I draw the line. The very last time I came here, I over heard what must have been the manager screaming loudy in the back at someone. I felt so bad for the employee that this is the manager they have to work with. That is not the behavior to carry when your customers can hear you from the lobby! On top of it the cashier was very quite, I could barely hear him and didn't seem like he wants to be there. This is where is gets good...The funny part was I went into Daiso to see a friend of mine to drop off a puff and I found out that the manager was yelling at a daiso employee which was his friend. I love this place! The cream puffs are what you come for, and they are delicious! But they also have a great selection of mochi ice cream. The black sesame is my favorite. And I still have to try their taiyaki ice cream! It's perfectly located in a shopping center with tons of good dinner options, so I always Want to stop here after. This used to be my go-to place for snow and cream puffs. However, what happened today was really upsetting and disappointing. My aunt and I came in to order taiyaki after picking up milk tea and donuts. We carried in a box of donut and cups of milk tea without opening or eating or drinking. It was really hot outside, so we decided to sit inside to wait for our food and then leave. We acknowledge that the store doesn't allow outside food or drink, so we didn't open any food or drink that we brought in, and we didn't plan to stay inside after getting the food we order. However, there's a middle-aged guys wearing glasses came out saying that no outside food or drink are allowed. We know that, so we were just waiting for them to finish our food and then leave. It was so annoying that that guy kept standing at the counter and stared at us every single second. Man, what the heck are you doing? Do you really want us to leave without picking up the food we order? What if we brought in a thermal bottle of water and package food? Would you kick us out like that? That sucks. While the food is not even out, that guy came out again and said in a rude way and angry voice: "I said that outside food and drinks are not allowed." I told him that we didn't get the taiyaki back. His face seems like he was surprised, and he went inside without saying a word. We refunded and left, and I saw that guy keeps hiding inside. RIDICULOUS! Never come here again. Oh my these are worth the drive! When we arrived the line was a bit long but not terrible. I ordered a crème brûlée puff and an éclair puff. The crème brûlée was incredible to say the least, it was crunchy with the crunchy sugar and then the crème in the middle was sweet. The eclair was where they loose a star. The crème puff itself was great the chocolate coating was not it was waxy and had a weird bitter taste. But other than that the place is great. read more

It's inside the Mochi place, which is a little confusing. The menu shows cream puffs and you see mochis on display, but it looks like it works for them. Got the original and the chocolate puffs and they were delicious! They bake them on site and you can tell they are fresh, but the downside is that if they run out of something - it's gone. I wanted to try the sample mini puffs but he told me they only have vanilla ones left, which kind of defeats the purpose of sampling. Got a Milk tea also that was delicious! Yay! A Beard Papa's in OC! The store sign actually shows "Mochi." That caused quite a bit of confusion while searching. Mochi just happens to also sell Beard Papa's. The vanilla cream puffs were buy 6 get 2 free ($16.49). $2.55 for 1. They are delicious as expected. They are a bit pricey but the size is good (refer to my picture). The breading is fresh and the cream is inserted when ordered. I give this Beard Papa's 5 stars and I'm NOT rating the Mochi store. There is a separate Yelp account for Mochi. Here is a slight summary. I will rate Mochi on its Yelp account when I try the other items. Mochi sells many other things like fried rice, gelato, mochi, dippin dots... It's a little overwhelming with the amount of items they sell. I tasted the mango gelato and it was very tasty. I might get that next time. read more

[COVID TIMES REVIEW] Apparently this place doesn't open until 12 now but the doors are open and people are sitting inside so I didn't realize this when I walked in at 11:55. Better signage would be nice! Yelp still says 11am so beware! This place used to be a lot more popular few years ago, back when it used to be "Mochilato", not sure what happened but they cut back on a lot of items (like macarons!) and it just hasn't been the same. They're so incompetent here. I tried to place a $120 order, it took 30 minutes and the high school girl got my cc info wrong! Said my card was declined. I told her to double check because there's no way my card was declined and that it was likely she input the wrong information. Turns out I was right and this kid got the CVV wrong and my bank told me right away what she did wrong. I call back and this kid has an attitude after I had to give her my card info a third time. I only ended up ordering 14 instead of the 28 because this kid couldn't even figure out my order for one of every kind of crème puff. 30 plus minutes. 3 calls. Plus a call to my bank to find out the kid didn't type down the CVV correctly. These people are dumb af and I gave up on my second order. I'll probably place a cc dispute if they mess up my order tomorrow. Wow, simply incompetent high schoolers working the phones. Update: I spoke to the owner, from one business owner to the other, just told him how much of a hassle it was to place an order. I got an excuse about their POS system (even though after the third time I repeated my info and it was correctly input, my card was accepted right away) and that he will talk to his employee. They wasted my time, and they don't care about poor service. This is my last order at this location, just low class all around with zero effort to remedy the situation. The bf and friend had the standard vanilla cream puff and enjoyed it. This location was a little hard to find, as someone not too familiar with this area. The yelp map kept taking me to Denny's, but I persevered and found it! As you can tell, THIS time I was committed to having a cream puff! This time they actually had the rounded pastry that I wanted, which I got with vanilla filling. It was pretty tasty. This location also had limited flavors, but since I was there on a weekday, I wasn't expecting too much. (Good to set expectations,... just saying...) Stumbled into this place and got a pineapple ice tea with an original pastry puff. The drink was delicious but too sweet for my liking. Very syrup-like. Also, the pastry puff was good but was way too messy for me. Definitely this should be eaten with a fork and sitting down. Plenty of patio seating with social distance in place outside.
