It's been a good few years since my local Beard Papa closed down in Rowland Heights. So, I was happy to see that a branch had opened up recently in the Victoria Gardens next to the Food hall. It's a Japanese brand that specializes in cream puffs. You order by the shell pastry type then the filling. I chose to get 2 original shell with vanilla and chocolate. They expanded their shell variety by adding green tea, s'mores, strawberry, and honey butter. The creme puffs are pricey but the size is a good amount, about the size of a tennis ball. The filling is not too sweet and the consistency is not runny, reminds me of pudding consistency. The shell does not get soggy quickly and they fill the inside it completely. The staff is nice. The plain cream puffs are the way to go. I tried the matcha and wasn't a fan. Also they were out of a few of the flavored ones I wanted to try, but I was perfectly happy with the plain one. The space itself is small and cramped. There's a fly zapper light in the back corner under one of the benches against the wall and I mistakenly thought it was a space heater. Definitely recommend if you want something sweet and light for dessert, but probably get it to-go instead of eating it there. read more

This Beard Papa's location is located on the outskirts of Victoria Gardens, conveniently positioned nearby the parking structure. The sunshine yellow interior of the cafe is well lit and inviting, with adequate seating for those seeking a break from their day of shopping. While everything on their food menu is good, my family and I have our favorites that we tend to gravitate toward -- a chocolate eclair shell filled with their creamy vanilla filling, a plain shell filled with a bittersweet green tea filling, and a creme brulee. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe Beard Papa's spotlights a limited-time flavor every so often, so we always pop in to see what it is. On this most recent occasion, the iced coffee menu selection caught our interest (the menu's picture made it look so good), so we ordered an iced vanilla coffee and an iced caramel coffee. We were surprised by the way it tasted, but not in a good way -- the coffee had a flat, watery flavor that was reminiscent of hot Keurig coffee that just had some creamer added to it. #110 for 2021 Beard Papa's comes to Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga. New to this area but not entirely a new business having been around now since 1999 beginning in Japan. Currently over 400 stores in 15 countries. I first experienced them in La Puente Mall, one of their early locations, in the early days. I enjoyed it then and looked forward to visiting this new location. The operation is the same serving a limited menu of cream puffs. Oh how delicious they are. Light and fluffy hard to eat just one. Or in my case, half of one. Gotta watch the figure you know. lol You start by choosing one of the eight shells. Original, chocolate eclair, honey butter, green tea elcair, crispy almonds, oreo cookie crumble eclair and s'mores eclair. Then, you choose a filling vanilla, green tea or chocoloate. That simple. They do have a few more dessert selections of creme brulee, fondant and cheesecake. That's all there is to the menu. Staff is friendly and courteous. Interaction is short, sweet and pleasant but don't expect to get the warm comfort feeling. They are young adults doing a good job. I came in with my son and fellow yelper, Robyn F. I ordered the $4.00 oreo cookie crumble eclair. The oreo cookie was broken up and placed on top of the cream puff making it the most attractive, imho, of the eight selections. I chose vanilla creme to go inside the puff. Light, not too sweet, fresh and cool. Perfect from the hot afternoon we walked in from. This was our last stop before heading back home. The service here is definitely lacking. The girl at the counter when I came could not be bothered. I'm not sure if it's the younger generation's "emo-is-in" or what, but she was completely expressionless. Me on the other hand, I was super excited because I remember going to Beard Papas for the first time in NYC when I live in Boston and being excited it opened down the street from me! In addition to being emotionless she was also not very helpful. I asked her how many cream puffs fit in a box since they don't do multiples but they have boxes. She said a dozen... I was going to a BBQ with 6-7 people so I thought a dozen was more than I needed but I didn't want to bring a partially filled box? So I just ordered 12....well guess what? It came out in a large and a small box? She was like "ohh sorry I thought it was 12..., but it only fit 10" Aside from that, the actual cream puffs were really good! I like the Honey Butter one, and the Almond donut shaped one was interesting too! For the Dozen it did come to over 50 bucks...which is def a lot for a box of pastries... but they are pretty good! read more

I absolutely love the cream puffs here. They're the perfect amount of sweetness. It reminds me of when my uncle would bring a box of the mini cream puffs to holiday parties when I was younger and they tasted amazing. For the longest time, I was looking for this place again after the one I would go to closed down and I happened to be in Victoria Gardens and literally screamed when I saw the Beard Papa's logo. I was so excited to get a cream puff again. I got the original one and it was amazing as always. The pastry itself was nice and flaky while the cream inside was light and not too sweet. I love the touch of powdered sugar on top. My friend got the creampuff with matcha cream inside and she loved it. It was her first time trying it and she said hers was so good and the matcha flavor is strong. I want to try the crème brûlée one next time. That one sounds so yummy. We thought the shells were delicious and perfectly crunchy, though I wasn't amazed by the chocolate filling- which just reminded me of a less sweet version of chocolate pudding. I tried this place because i heard some hype behind it, but to be real here it is not amazing and it's not even good in my opinion. Obviously it's a matter of opinion but the puffs I tired chocolate and Oreo were ehh. The dough or bread not sure which one is dry as heck and the creams inside were just lacked enough flavor as i expected given heading it was amazing. I really don't understand the hype about this place since the buffs fall really short of good. Service was not great either. Younger kids working and no real interaction with even a hello or how can I help you which is always good to have when working with customers. It was my family's turn up and they just stared with a face of "I don't want to be here" lol. When my drink order was up I didn't even know it was mine because there was no announcement it was just laid on the counter. Another family was also like ok whose drink does this belong to. This was my first time going to Beard Papa's in a long time. After having dinner at Kabuki for my birthday at Victoria's Garden, we were surprised to see one and decided to get some cream puffs. Just a heads up, if you are going for Beard Papas, parking in my personal opinion can be a challenge. You have parking options to park on a metered parking space, parking structure or the parking lots. We get there and were welcomed by the friendly staff. In the front part of the store, we noticed the displays of the stuffed cream puffs. We decided to get 1/2 dozen box of the cream puffs. We got: Chocolate Eclair w/Vanilla filling, Regular w/Vanilla filling and Hazelnut filling. We waited for a couple of minutes while our order was being prepped. Our order was ready and we them home. I had one and it was exactly how I remembered it. My favorite cream puff was the Chocolate Eclair w/Vanilla filling. The vanilla filling is perfect, not too sweet for my taste. The rest we but them in the refrigerator and in my opinion, I like it chilled. Our overall experience was great and the Cream Puffs were really good and enjoyed them. If you are looking for a different kind of dessert, I would definitely recommend Beard Papas. Next time we go, we want to try their other items on their menu. read more

I forgot the name of what I got but it was like an Ube volcano cake. It was so warm and delicious! My wife got the original cream puff to share with our son and they both thought it was really good, not too sweet. It took about 5-8 minutes to get our stuff because i think there was some wait time for previous customers but it was fine because we were just enjoying the weather and glad that it came out warm. My first time buying some cream puffs here and man get ready to wait a long time for your order. I came to order 4 original puffs and after 20 minutes, my order isn't ready yet. You guys really need to have your baking times and prep management figured out better. How do you expect to do business and fulfill customers orders when each ticket, regardless of the order size takes over 20 minutes to complete. I understand baking these puffs take time, however, ordering a single puff or two should take such long to complete. Underwhelmed. I was expecting more for almost $5 per créeme puff. I got the honey butter and strawberry with vanilla filling. They were small and finished them in 3 bites. The pastry tasted stale kinda like cereal. The cream was not made in house which I find really odd since all they sell is cream puffs. You would think they put a lot of thought into the cream and the puff but they both just felt half @$$ed. Much too pricey for the cheap and low effort product we received. So I was out in Victoria Gardens and pleasantly surprised to find out that Beard Papa's have recently opened! The place had a nice, cozy set-up inside and was very clean. This was a first time visit for me and I was not impressed. I'm not a fan of eateries that have more than an hour to close and they only offer what they have out. From what I understand they are trying to save on food cost. Essentially that is the demise of many small businesses, putting themselves before a customer can never be good. I've tried this place in Japan and at the mall, and I can say that the quality is pretty much the same--really good. High quality cream puff pastry with sweet but not so sweet creamy fillings. Amazing small pastry store that serves cream puffs! The store is warm and cozy and is located at the edge of the mall. The cream puffs are crispy, filled with a cream filling of your choice. They have so many different shells to choose from. I personally like the chocolate eclair with vanilla filling but the desserts are SO underrated. The fondants are a must try! The minis are good for trying out the different fillings but get soggy quickly so I would definitely recommend the regular size puffs if you are going to save them for later. I ended up waiting another 10 min until my order was finally ready. When it was ready, the worker didn't even apologize for the wait until I complained about the 20 min wait. There were only two workers and they were struggling. As customers were walking in, they couldn't even properly greet them and would tell them to order at the self-kiosk.
