My husband has followed his barber, Ken, across several shops throughout the DMV area. Ken's skills are so excellent that my husband currently makes the trek from the suburbs of Northern VA to Bearded Goat in Navy Yard every 3 weeks for his haircut, always looking clean and handsome afterward. Our infant daughter and I have tagged along and we've always been welcomed inside the shop. In addition to haircuts, their services also include shaves, trims, manicures, and pedicures. They also service kids! The shop itself is located in a prime spot in Navy Yard, a few minutes walk away from Yards Park. It's also tastefully decorated and also offers complimentary bottled water as well as Commonwealth Joe coffee. There's street parking available as well as lots and garages nearby. Thank you Ken for allowing me to fall in love with my husband over and over again! For the past decade Ken has given my husband the cleanest, freshest cuts in the city. Ken is easy to talk to, knowledgeable on all the latest styles and techniques and is just an all-around good person. Ken pretty much cuts for everyone in our circle of friends (see Annie P's review below lol)... but also shears some of DC's most prominent sports players and politicians (the cool ones!). He is very popular so make sure to book in advance. This location of the Bearded Goat is the nicest one yet. There is lots of bright sunlight coming in through the floor to ceiling windows as well as many modern, comfortable touches. I often accompany my husband to his appointments so we can grab lunch afterwards and the staff is SO kind and accommodating. They coo over my baby and if you have a dog they have biscuits too. I have been taking my son to have his haircut by Ken for the past few years and he has always done an amazing job. We were super excited for their new location in Navy Yard to open. Ken is always very friendly and takes the time to have a conversation with my son and makes him feel comfortable. He also cuts my nephew's hair as well . Ken always takes the time to listen to what we would like done and we really appreciate that . My son always gets compliments on his hair while we are out and that definitely boosts his confidence. I came here to get my beard done for my wedding and I am very happy with the experience. My beard came out looking great, and so did my brother / best man's. Getting the beard done is a throwback experience - your stylist is going to be very attentive to all of the details and process. If you're looking for a quick in and out, then a beard trim is not what you are looking for - it takes roughly 45 minutes - and good things come to those who wait. Very disappointed. I've been going to the Bearded Goat for about a year... their customer care has really declined. Yesterday I received the usual confirmation email/text for my haircut and beard trim today. Confirmed it online - but when I arrived, I was told that they couldn't see me today. My barber, Riz, apparently had gone back to Europe several weeks ago. I asked why I hadn't been contacted, and they said they had been "trying to reach you." Not very hard I guess, since I hadn't received a phone call (confirmed that yes they did have my correct phone number), or an email, and when I went online my appointment was still showing as confirmed. They didn't have anyone who can see me this week, and I'm heading out on a business trip on Thursday. I know from experience a couple of the other barbers aren't that great. Competent, but I was never really happy with their haircuts. Needless to say, after this I won't be back. Looking for a new barber shop in DC. read more

I made an appointment for my husband for his birthday, and I fell in love with MY husband again as well! :) Centrally located in Navy Yard (between the Philz Coffee and Potbelly's), my toddler and I was able to walk around the area while we waited or watch the haircut through the glass windows of the shop. They seem to have tight schedule with back to back appointments because of the high demand. So when we arrived 10 minutes late for the appointment, they had to expedite the process. Even though our appointment was shortened, Eric gave a precise haircut that looks sharp! I loved the way he styled it in the end too. They take looking good seriously here. They also have coffee on tap here too which is an excellent touch since DC is a well caffeinated city and saves clients time from having to get coffee before or after. read more

5 stars for my first appointment here with Jordan, who I am horribly sad to see heading back to the UK and 1 star for last appointment, which was the worst, most awkward, and disappointing barber experience I've ever had. So, we even out to 3 stars. Location-wise, the spot is fantastic. It's convenient for everyone in Navy Yard or for Nats fans looking to knock out a haircut and a ballgame in one fell swoop. The space is super fresh. The waiting area is great, and both times I've been we've been very close to on-time. They really could use some cold beverages (even if not alcoholic), but that's the extent of my complaints. Reservation system is good, although I wish that you could prepay through so it's quicker on the way out. Generally speaking, bad reviews of barbershops are generally the fault of the person whose hair is being cut, and I'm not above blaming myself. For my first appointment with Jordan, he did a superb job of talking through what I thought I wanted, what he thought would work, and then he went and did about as good a haircut as my horrifically balding hairline can handle. The reason why I won't be back is that my second cut was the absolute opposite of that. I don't believe in putting people on blast for things that aren't necessarily their fault, so take what I say with a big time grain of salt. My barber had Airpods in the whole time, didn't ask the necessary questions to understand what I wanted, rushed the job big time, and pulled out the mirror when my hair looked like the backside of a Golden Retriever. The whole process was so horribly awkward I was sweating profusely the whole time and in a state of near shock at what was happening. The barber mega trimmed my eyebrows without asking if I wanted them trimmed at all, didn't seem to grasp basic barbering concepts, and we had to go back multiple times to get something approaching acceptable. Again, I firmly believe that when you go to a barbershop and it doesn't work out, it's probably your fault, so I'm not going to name and shame, but the combo of the total lack of communication, the Airpods in, the inability to just take a look at my hair and realize it looked terrible, and just the general awkwardness of the encounter made it an experience I won't repeat, especially not if I'm paying $50 plus tip for it. If I wanted to have a haircut that involved taking a bunch of hair off in a haphazard fashion that took 20 minutes, I could find any number of places to do that for $20. I won't be back, but if you've gotten cuts from one of the barbers working out of the shop, and you like them, I'd certainly consider it worth it to make the trek out to see them at this location. I just can't recommend the shop to folks who aren't familiar with the barbers, since at least one of them is not good, at all. read more

Horrific customer service. After coming here regularly for almost a year, they cancelled my appointment with absolutely no courtesy call or notice. I called their number multiple times and it rings and rings and they don't answer. I drive all the way over there just to hear that my barber left for the day. Zero communication. I used to enjoy going to this shop but lately the so called curated "music" has become intolerable. I pay for two services and spend 45 minutes being forced to listen to profanity laden words over a single note. I am guessing that I am simply no longer their type of client and will be looking for a more professional men's grooming business. Having just moved to DC, I was really hoping I could find a good barbershop that I could come to regularly. I decided to trust Bearded Goat with my first cut since I've moved here, and I can honestly say they helped DC feel a little more like home. Came in on a Friday and they were fully booked so I made an appointment for Saturday at 1 PM. Saturday morning I got a text that my appointment was canceled. I called and apparently it was because one hairdresser decided to call out. For some reason they do not attempt to have someone else fill or anything. There was no apology. I decided to give them a second chance and had to ask to be re-scheduled for 5:45 PM. A few hours later this appointment was also cancelled in the same way. Welp, I blame myself. I'll preface this by saying that I am a woman with a short cut and perhaps I should've just gone to a salon. But never in a million years did I think I'd leave The Bearded Goat with half a buzz cut, no right side burn and my edges shaved off. It would have been the morally right thing to do for the barber (Kevin? Ken?) to say he didn't know how to work with my hair. Instead, now I'll be wearing headbands for the next six months hoping to grow out this disaster. I can laugh about it now (I mean, what other choice do I have) but goodness gracious do I look like a burnt peanut. I even called two weeks early and asked if they cut women's hair and the girl said yes. Alas, lesson learned. Ladies, suck it up and go pay double the price to get the cut you want and not the cut you're embarrassed to leave the house with. And shout out to the black folks in there who either saw the disaster coming or knew I looked awful and didn't say anything. read more
