Came here before a St. Paul Saints game and had a fine experience. It was busy, as the event brought in the crowd, which made for a lively evening. Our group of 14 I was able to grab some tables near each other on the patio, which was a pleasant surprise! Service was just OK. Pretty slow and not super attentive to the patio patrons, so we opted for ordering drinks and closing out our tabs at the bar. They were out of the beers we hoped to try and even ran out of pint glasses at one point - I'm sure crowd with the baseball game keeps the staff on their toes! As a group, we shared a few appetizers which were good, but I would be interested to try more of their food. Overall it was a fine experience - likely won't be seeking out a return visit, but if you need a spot for a larger group on a lovely patio before a Downtown STP event, this would be a good spot! read more

We were checking out some breweries in Lowertown and stopped into Dark Horse for some much needed dinner! Street parking and paid surface lots available nearby! The space is so fun and inviting...large booths, colorful wall murals, and natural light from large windows! Perfect for a quick bite or a place to stay and hang out! Our server was friendly and efficient during our visit! Straightforward, elevated American classics anchor the menu: burgers, pizzas, wings, etc! We had the Dark Horse Burger and it was absolutely DELISH! Juicy, perfectly cooked patties partnered with all the things I love on a burger! I'd absolutely return for that! I visited Dark Horse Bar and Eatery and ordered the Cubano. The pork was super greasy and overwhelmingly smoky, with very little other flavor. I tried a bite, my friend tried it and said it was good so I tried another bite, nope. I moved the plate away from me and the bartender walked by multiple times without checking in. When my friend finally got her attention to tell her I didn't like it, she said sorry and that was it. He had to ask if I could try something else. After getting manager approval? She came back and asked what I wanted instead.. I needed to see the menu.. she didn't come back until my friend was done eating so we declined further food options. Mind you, the plate was left in front of me this whole time. When she brought our tab, she asked if I was going to eat the cubano before finally taking it away. First time here at Dark Horse! I had seen a TikTok with the Red Light District pairing (Martini and Focaccia) and had to try it. The server was knowledgeable and attentive. The staff felt cohesive and the focaccia was a real stand out. Next time- I will go back to a dirty martini as I am not the biggest dill fan. After 5 minutes we were ready to leave but out of the blue a guy came over to seat us finally. Weird start but food was good. Would come back again but if the place was any busier than it was (maybe 30 people tops) on a Thursday night at 8:30pm I'd walk out and find somewhere else to grab a burger and a drink. So Dark Horse has become one of my local favorites as of the last few months. They have been going through some menu changes with the introduction of a new chef. I got the Cheese Nachos on their happy hour menu, which is from 3-5:30 Tuesday - Friday. I added the pulled pork to it. I paid $13 for this during happy hour, and usually this would run $18 during dinner. It was a great deal! Their menu has been evolving with some great flavors, and the service and vibes of the restaurant are on point as well. I would recommend anyone to take their friends and family here! read more

I'm not sure if this is seasonal, or adjusting to the perceived market, but the menu has changed since I visited earlier this year (soon after reopening). Gone were a number of the creative items. Instead the menu resembles more of a typical bar- mostly pizzas and burgers. At least they kept the shishito peppers on the menu. My beet and whipped tofu salad was excellent, but the potato croquettes were just bland It also appears they downgraded the low and no alcohol portion of drink menu as well. Loved our happy hour date night here! We stopped in after another event and it was conveniently located just a couple of blocks from CHS Field. Ambiance is modern and casual, I especially enjoyed the various large leafed plants near the windows. Amazing service from our waiter, despite a very busy night full of customers. He offered great suggestions since I haven't eaten here before, checked in on us frequently and was just friendly and professional the entire time. Food was pretty good (4/5), but not amazing. But my cocktail (5/5) was phenomenal! I met up with some friends before the baseball game. I'm glad we met up at this restaurant, across the street from the parking lot, and they're open again. I came to this restaurant last year and they were closed. The menu offers mixed fusion with asian flavors. Inside the restaurant is colorful, mural on the wall, gold color booths, and plants hung. It's cool to see how they remodeled the space. I've been here one other time when it was more of a dive bar summer '24. It's a bit more fancier now. We were attending an event nearby and needed food. They have a few hh offerings which is nice. I think all the food items are $10 and some drink specials. They also have the full menu of course. The menu generally looks good. We had a child with us and he was being a bit picky but settle for wings and fries (no kids menu, which is fine!, definitely a space for the more mature crowd). I got cheesy garlic bread, wontons and ordered the wondrous punch which came in a soy sauce bottle and 3 wontons. The food overall was good and I'd definitely stop by again if in the area. Decor is super cute as well. Service was a tad bit slow at some points but it did get busier as the dinner hours approached. They did have tvs over by the bar but they weren't on. What a fun place! We came here to pre game for the Saints game The place is clean, and welcoming. Shout out to Cody, who pulled double duty as bartender and waiter! Super friendly, and attentive and we all appreciated his humor and recommendations. They have a small but enjoyable menu. Great atmosphere, service, and food! We stopped for happy hour after work with coworkers and everyone enjoyed the drinks and apps equally. The sauce that comes with the peppers is incredible, and it was a nice change to have something other than ketchup for the fries. Another gem located in the Lowertown neighborhood of Saint Paul! They offer a variety of different foods and drinks but our new favorite is the wood-fire pizza! We love the neighboring brewery Barrel Theory and would often order food for pickup to take next door. Recently they knocked a hole in the wall between the two businesses and added QR codes to order so we no longer have to walk out to pick it up! Super convenient and we love neighborly love! Quick service, food came out really fast, I think because the wings might have been premade for the event. I wish they were made to order but I understand with the demand. We stopped in here for lunch My wife and I each got a little Bucky Bloody Mary...It was amazing especially the HOLY MOLY CHICKEN DRUMMIE BATMAN! It was some of the best chicken we've ever had. The service this time was fantastic and the Prosecco was ice cold. The pizza was a solid 5/5. The Bang bang shrimp I give a 4/5 it was good but the Bang Bang sauce was not the best I have had on my travels but the best I have had in the area for sure. The chips and queso were very good and had an amazing creamy texture that left me wanting more. 5/5. The staff is always kind and friendly and a wonderful place to come hang out. This place was alright. We got the kbbq Brussel sprouts as an app and they were DELICIOUS! Had a Moscow Mule with dinner that was beautifully balanced and pretty string without being overwhelming. The risotto I got as my main was pretty flavorless, which was surprising given the beets and peas and veggies in it. I think salt and some seasoning would have gone a long way - but no salt at the table? Not just ours, but no salt at any of the tables. Friend got wings that has the opposite problem - WAY too salty. But the fries with the wings? Delicious. They've got an in-house ranch that's amazing too. Service was pretty solid overall, two in our party had dietary restrictions that they noted on our tickets and extra care was taken with. Which we super appreciated! Walked here after discovering the European Christmas Market was tiny and a state fair number of people showed up. We tried a few places within walking distance but they were all too full to seat. This place was our third try, and we were just being told to leave when a table opened up for two! Large lofted space with rustic cozy bar vibes when filled with people. As a whiskey connoisseur, I was pleasantly surprised to see their massive whiskey menu and their huge bar shelf with a sliding library ladder! I ordered a Caribou Crossing on the rocks. I was expecting an ice cube with a 1/3 of a lowball glass but instead was served a glass full to the top with pure whiskey. Needless to say I only had one! It was a very dry whiskey and you could clearly taste the wood of the barrel it was in. Their menu is all the bar food classics, but done WELL. I ordered the Triple Crown pizza. It was shockingly delicious! Good quality cheese with a nice pull, loaded with veggies, and balanced perfectly with the sauce! If I end up going back with more friends I might even give this a 5! read more

I paid for dinner for myself and a friend and split the check across two credit cards. I authorized and signed for $50 on my corporate card and placed the remainder of the bill plus a 22% tip on my personal card. Later that evening, I discovered that an additional $15 tip had been added to my corporate card, bringing that charge to $65 -- a charge I did not authorize or sign for. I contacted management, and the $15 was refunded only after I threatened to dispute the entire charge. The explanation I received was that it was a "clerical error." Adding a tip to a signed receipt after the fact is unacceptable. Business travelers and anyone using split payments should carefully review their receipts. read more

Dark horse is located very close to CHS field, so my friends and I went there before a game! The event parking by this place is WAY cheaper than if you go across from the stadium. I paid $7 and across the field was $25!! I am only talking a couple block difference! There is cool art work, lighting and has an overall city bar vibe which was relaxed and cool. Our server was amazing! She was very attentive and we got our drinks and food in a timely manner. My friends enjoyed the beer and whisky, while I tried a cocktail called "Basil Spank" it was light and refreshing! My one friend got the Adam and Eve Pizza and said it was really tasty! (It looked great!) I got the pulled pork tacos which are technically an appetizer. They come with 2 tacos and they make their tortillas. Very good! My other 2 friends got pulled pork sandwiches and finished them quickly, so I have to assume they were good! Overall this was a great experience and I would definitely recommend this place! Stopped in for a Sunday lunch. There weren't many people there, so we were sat right away. As a bonus we were able to snag street parking right out front. We shared a good amount of food because we wanted to try it all We started with chips and queso. It was basically homemade velveeta and they didn't give enough chips, but overall a good snack. Too many items are charred or burnt. That is a carcinogen. I'm out. Burnt pizza crust and burnt buns are not appetizing. Nor does it taste good either. If you know what you're doing the pizza dough shouldn't get burned. Chefs need to match oven temps to work with the flour they use in their dough. Dark Horse Bar & Eatery has been on my list for a few years now. Visited on a Thursday evening around 6:30pm with two friends. First, they ID you right when you walk in. That was a little different, but saves the servers needing to check ID's. We waited about 15 minutes before being helped by our waiter, but it was fine, busy evening and only one server for about 10 tables. When he made it to our table, he introduced himself and asked if we've been here before. It was all of our first time so he spent time explaining the menu and answered our questions. I thought it was awesome how all the meat was smoked in-house. We ordered beers and Buffalo chicken dip as an appetizer which was fantastic.... Lots of chicken and wow, smoked chicken in Buffalo chicken dip is so yummy. All of our meals were great too. All of us enjoyed our food and agreed we'd be back. read more

Ah man, I used to love this place. Great location, great food. Well the location hasn't changed. I took my mother there for dinner, it was a convenient choice. She got the pulled pork sando and I got the drummies and Brussels sprouts. They're defo going to remember me bc when we complained about the food to the server, I could tell she thought we were trying to get free stuff. Here's what happened: I didn't like the sauce that was in the Brussels. It's just a manner of taste buds and I was okay with it. My mothers pork, however, tasted like a bandaid and I'm not kidding. It was horrible. I had a tiny taste and told her to stop eating it. She ate half the sando and I think was just being nice, but this was bad. My mother blurts out to the server that we didn't like the pork or the Brussels. Server said she'll take off the Brussels but not the pork bc she ate half of it. Okay fine, she didn't get the point. I waited until my mother was in the restroom and pulled server aside and told her, I wouldn't have sent back the Brussels, I'm not trying to get free stuff, and server to server, the pork is really bad. She should try it. Well she really showed us by making us sit there for an hour and think about what we did. We just wanted to pay and leave. I've never felt so disrespected by a server. Dark Horse was exactly what I was looking for on a Sunday night in Minneapolis: a chill bar with food and a good selection of Whiskey & Bourbon. Let me start with the drinks: a fantastic selection of pours including Blanton's and Eagle Rare. Also along the walls are some local bottles which I was happy to see and try. The service was fantastic (thanks Jordan and Sally!) Eventually, I did grab some dinner as well a rundown of my meal: Brisket: It was a head fake at first because it looked like two strips of steak, but it was actually a well-marbled cut that satisfied my smoked meats craving. It comes with a fantastic North Carolina-style sauce. Mac & Cheese: Great cheddar profile with even more shredded cheddar added after- more cheese is always a win. The topped crispy onions were a great finishing touch. French Fries: Thinly sliced like chips, so they are very light and snackable. Overall a great local bar with good drinks, food, and service. A friend and I stopped in on a warm Sunday afternoon for lunch on the patio. Dark Horse has one of my favorite outdoor seating areas in the twin cities. Our server was phenomenal and if she wasn't so busy we'd have loved it if she pulled up a chair and chatted with us. My friend ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and I ordered the burger. We both loved the food, especially the fries which are like a hybrid of a potato chip and a French fry. We spent a while here talking and enjoying this warm Fall weather. Like many other establishments around town, they are struggling with being short staffed so their menu is being revamped and they were out of a few items. Not their fault at all I just recommend that they keep their online menu updated. Truly this is a special neighborhood spot and I'll continue to come here even when I don't live waking distance away.
