Went for lunch. Wasn't busy and was relaxing. Our waitress was very friendly and took our orders. I had ordered the soup and salad combo and my husband ordered the full wedge salad. When I ordered she asked me if I wanted a cup or bowl of soup and a half or whole order of my salad. I didn't question this but thought it would be a half seeing I wanted the combo. Our food was delicious. When we got the bill my husband paid it. I asked him what my meal costed. She had charged us separate for the salad and the soup vs the combo meal. Difference of $6. Came here at the end of hot day in the 90s - our server was definitely feeling it. He was clearly pretty exhausted but was pleasant to us. I wouldn't order the flat bread again and the chicken sandwich was fine but not great. Stick to the specialties. Have had steaks here in the past and they were great as are the ponzu green beans. Saturday Ladies Night Out. We (3 40ish yo women) decided on Rudy's for a nice, sit down dinner on a patio to celebrate summer, sunshine and friendship. We've been here before for bachelorettes, birthdays and even a wedding reception, so we knew what we were getting into. Drinks: you can not NOT order a Rudytini. It's required/expected that someone in your party to order it. Thank you Nic for taking one for the team. It's $18 but your get about 3 drinks out of it since it comes with the shaker/shot of champagne. Jaq got a Kona beer (tap) on happy hour special and I got a Downeast cider (can). I'm happy it came in a can because I feel like it stays colder longer than a glass sitting in the sun. App: Chicken Nachos for the table. This is how all Nachos should be made. Queso was under all the toppings so when the lettuce, black olives and chicken were gone, you discovered that all the lonely chips on the bottom had gooey goodness all over them. No boring chip to be found. Entrees: Jaq ordered the 3- 4 oz. Angus Blackened Medallions. All entrees come with Teriyaki green beans. She ordered rice pilaf as the 2nd side. She had leftovers and took the 3rd Medallion home. Nic and I both ordered the Walleye Finger tacos. Again both came with green beans. She got the rice while I chose French fries. The tacos came with 3 fingers on each taco (there are 3 tacos on the plate). Dressed with cilantro lime coleslaw and pineapple mango salsa. The flavors hit hard and the walleye batter (not breaded!!) had good seasoning. Green beans tasted good with the teriyaki glaze and sesame seeds. My French fries were crispy on the inside with a good portion of soft potato on the inside; lightly salted. Ketchup was the dipping sauce of choice. Nic and I both had 1 two left. Let's hope they reheat well. Service was speedy and friendly. Bill was accurate. The drinks were great, especially the flirtini raspberry cocktail which came with a shaker and a champagne back. Rudy's has been on my radar for a long time as a Cajun pasta guy. I needed a good excuse to head to the east side of the twin cities - and a visit from Dad who has the same appetite/love for pasta was just the reason! Let's start with the apps. Bull bites. Absolutely on point with some of the best creamy horseradish around. I darn near drank the stuff and then got a second cup to use with my entree. If they would've given me some to go, I would've taken it by the barrel! A side note before the finale - the bread/butter basket was 10/10. Some places serve dry bread with a little morsel of cold unreadable butter. Not here! Warm rolls with a plentiful dish of butter. Don't let eating it all ruin your main course... Turning to the entree - the Cajun chicken fettuccini. Another home run by Rudy's! GREAT flavor! As you k is if you've seen my pasta reviews - I likey when they throw peppers and onions in, which Rudy's does. The chicken and sausage combo was maybe the best I've seen as it wasn't a meat dish with a few noodles (in fact it was very light on sausage). PLENTY of noodles (I didn't finish the dish). So why didn't I give Rudy's five stars? Well - it was a tad slow and I had to make my "more creamy horseradish" request several times. Biggest detractor - the pasta was very soupy, which is better than dry or too light on sauce, but it made getting a good forkful a challenging proposition (I ended up with sauce flecks all over the table and my shirt). She blew me off. At dessert time she never offered a birthday cake type treat. I figured, Well I guess Rudy's doesn't celebrate birthdays! So we ordered off the dessert tray. So I call later on and inquired if anything was offered for a birthday girl? " Oh yes, a complimentary slice of cheesecake!". Too much tip for that server!! So, our food was terrific! No complaints, except for the carrot cake. It was moist in the middle, but toward the outside of the slice it was stale. $16 worth of stale.. but I'm not bitter, nope, not at all....... I will say the coconut shrimp was divine. Even better than the shrimp I had in Clearwater Beach FL, and South Padre Island last winter. Huge. Juicy. Meaty. Now, not to be finicky, just truthful, I recognized the older woman that was the hostess. I butted heads with her when I was in charge of a huge event my school had there. She was the most unpleasant and rude restaurant personnel I've had to deal with as a customer. She almost ruined our dessert table. That's all I have to say. Except that if she ever smiled it might crack her face. So left a little disappointed, and I might add our server never informed us of the nightly special. Stopped in for HH and a bite to eat. We sat on the rooftop which is a nice spot on a sunny day. Service was lacking on this day. We were seated at a table on the railing right by the bar. It took the server over 10 mins to stop by to ask if we wanted something to drink. In fact, I had to ask the hostess if someone was assigned to our table. Celebrated my dad's birthday here along with a wedding going on and many other people- it was a very busy night for the restaurant. Smaller roof top patio and an oddly placed bathroom. Service was excellent Atmosphere very loud, but expected given how busy they were. Food was excellent. Ordered the oriental chicken salad which was delicious and hearty for a salad. Onion rings- were gigantic and battered which are the best. I don't like the non beer battered crunchy type. These were great. Other people ordered shrimp, pasta, steaks all said to be very good. Entree: Redeye Marinated Sirloin--16 oz ($30). -- Meat Temp: I ordered it Medium Rare, and they nailed it. -- Marinade: I was skeptical, but the Hoisin marinade gives the steak a smoky and somewhat earthy seasoning. I will try this at home! -- Taste: Good cut of meat with a good sauce. I cannot ask for more. Entree: Pan-fried Walleye ($26). My four colleagues ordered this dish, and they all said "It's a good portion of fish with good seasoning!" Drinks: Vodka and Gin Martinis were served with small individual Shakers, and they filled the glass to the top. Decent poor and good execution. Service: Top notch. Our Server was fast, efficient and all meals were delivered at the same time. Ambiance: We sat at the upstairs Deck--which DOES NOT have the same menu as the lower inside restaurant. I'm taking away a star because the upstairs menu was not the full menu that they show on Yelp. Navigating to/from the buffet was a bit cramped, and it annoys me when families decide to have a reunion hug in the chow line, delaying everybody behind them (not to mention people obsessed with organizing the food on their plate so it's "just so" - as if it's not all going through the same colon). The food here is below average. In fact, I would never pay full price for any of these items (Happy Hour prices aren't bad though). The jalapeno poppers and the popcorn shrimp tastes like it was pre-frozen and warmed up to order. Something you could buy in the frozen food aisle at the grocery store. The atmosphere here is really cool. The rooftop seating is a great vibe! There's also a cool outdoor spiral stair you can take to reach the top. Beware though, those steps are steep! We've been in WBL for 10 years and always wanted to try Ruby's. It was okay. Our server was very friendly and the ambience was nice but the quality of food was similar to a Denny's or Perkins. It had been a few years since we visited Rudy's red eye Grill. We were hopeful for a great meal! We had two appetizers, the brussels sprouts and the onion rings. The onion rings were out of this world - huge and really perfectly cooked. The brussels sprouts were tough and chewy - not the best we've had. Our entrée was a walleye sandwich which was the same breading as used on the onion rings - the sandwich was good. The Cole slaw was pretty average; we make better at home. We decided we had chosen food with too much breading. Next time we're gonna go lighter. Food was 3.5 atmosphere 4 , service 3. Will give it an overall rating of 3. Our food and service during lunch was great today. We shared a few appetizers and all were stunners. It was hard to say which was my favorite out of all three options, so I would recommend them all. We got the Coconut Shrimp, Tuna Taki and the Duck Bacon Wontons. All cooked and prepped perfectly and so flavorful. FYI The tuna is raw and had perfect amount of a teriyaki on it. All the sauces that came with these apps were perfect for dipping and complimented the food very well. It's rooftop dining was so very unexpected and fun. It's attached to a hotel so I had zero expectations walking in. We took two story spiral staircase to the top and we're seated immediately. We had 1/2 priced appetizers: jalapeño poppers and chicken quesadillas. The jalapeño poppers had a sweet sauce which balanced the hint of spice from the poppers. The quesadillas were typical bar food. I split a double burger with my coworker. It was very much like a Big Mac with the thousand island sauce. (I can't remember the name) Wow was this delicious!! We had a side of fries too which were great as well. I'd come back for the burger! We were still talking about it the next day! Mondays also have 1/2 priced bottles of wine! read more

Obviously a hotel restaurant. Striving, and on the surface, the ambiance, menu, and way the employees of the restaurant dress, it fails to deliver 100%. Hence the 3 stars. Having said that, the food, which I've tried a handful of times, is decent. The prime rib is decent quality, and they at least cook the meat to the requested doneness, although at least 1/4 of the cut that is served is pure fat. Now. I know that this is a fatty place of where the muscles reside. Yet, it is not great to look at your dish and 2 of the 4 sides have 1/2 to 1 inch of fat surrounding the edible meat. Having said that, the portion is generous for the price, and you get to choose a type of potato. The green beans that come with the steak are actually perfectly cooked and well seasoned. For the potato, get the mashed or full loaded. NOT the au-gratin. The au-gratin tastes like box au-gratin potatoes with cheese melted on top. The loaded baked and mashed potatoes are much better. Lastly, the service is great. Servers are attentive without being intrusive, and knowledgeable as well as friendly. Not a bad place to park if you want food that is more than fast food, or a chain restaurant for dinner. Do not expect Michelin Star quality though! read more

We had been to Rudy's before and the food was good so I made a reservation weeks in advance for a special night and requested a booth for a quiet dining experience. Arriving 5 mins prior to our reservation, we were told they were running a bit behind, which on a busy Saturday night wasn't unreasonable. What was concerning was they seated others in a booth who arrived after us . After waiting 30 mins we were seated at a table near the waiters serving station. Loud and bustling with activity. Mind you, we weren't asked, just directed. When asked, I was told requests weren't a guaranteed. The restaurant could have gone out of their way to explain how long the wait may be, offered us options, and/or given a complimentary drink or appetizer because they couldn't fill our request. Service was excellent. The food this night was sub par . Prime rib was tough, pasta special was nothing to write home about. However the house wine was good and it was a healthy pour. read more
