    Turkey burger
    Bianca F.

Obviously I'm here on vacation. I saw this on kayak not my first choice but glad I'm here. Beautiful large hotel room Everyone is kind and mindful I had lunch today at the bar. I got the healthy turkey burger. No flavor bland and I asked for no bread and no tomatoes. There was no sauce or flavor whatsoever to the burger. The pickle was the best and the fries. The bartender is completely incompetent. Fake smile, clearly only happy when men are at her bar. Didn't seem to care about me at all. But it's all good. I'm willing to give the restaurant another chance. The fries and the salad was absolutely incredible I probably won't order another burger lol All I can say is I want that seasoning for the fries lol

Locking front door required a key in the deadbolt all night to be able to get out in an emergency. Notice condition of door trim.

It is decorated in a French theme and has a lot of charm throughout. We were lucky enough to stay in the room adjacent to the sitting room. It was very spacious and had a huge bathroom with a claw foot tub and pedestal sink. The locations of the French House is also great. It is in a historic part of Wilmington and taking a walk around the neighborhood shows how rich in history this part of town is. It is also walking distance (4 blocks) from the river and a quick 15 minute ride to Wilmington Beach. What makes The French House 5 stars is that it is run by a wonder hostess, Janice. She is kind and accommodating to her guests' needs. We arrived and found a fruit plate and mini refrigerator stocked with waters and soda. She gave us maps of downtown and recommendations of where to eat. She knew our names before we even introduced ourselves and always made us feel at home. When I burned my feet at the beach, she searched high and low for some aloe, even making phone calls to neighbors to find some. The breakfasts she provided always included some fresh berries, yogurts, homemade scones, and some sort of pastry (one day we had croissants, one day we had blueberry strudel). My only wish is that there were some kind of protein provided! We had a truly wonderful stay here at the French House. My only complaint was the other guest that was staying there at the same time as us...she had a guest stay late one night and rather than sitting on the front porch or in her room, she sat in the sitting room right in front of our room and kept us up for a good portion of the night. However, I will still give this place 5 stars because Janice and the house itself were excellent. We will be back :)

A thumbs up from me.

There is no official front desk, so we spoke with the people at the stand by the parking lot, and they were able to share information and assist bringing my parents' bags to their room, up a flight of stairs. There's a small sitting area on the balcony outside the rooms, and each room has its own unique decor. We love the eye for detail and design. Our room is The Hamptons, with two double beds and a separate room with TV and sitting area and desk (though it is open to the bedroom because no doors exist in the doorway; it would be cool if they had sliding doors to separate the spaces). The bar downstairs is lively and fun with amazing cocktails and a few small bite options, and it operates from the backyard yard of the Inn, so be prepared for a bit of noise from that and the street to filter into the room especially on weekends. This bar doubles as the Concord Espresso House that serves amazing espresso drinks and pastries in the morning. The indoor seating is low key elegant, a great spot to sit and start your morning.

Got checked in quickly and our room was nice and clean. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary or concerning in the room. The pillows were a little too soft for my liking but nothing to get upset over, bed was comfortable otherwise. Breakfast was very good; oatmeal, pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, and more. Everything was nice and hot and tasted great very pleased with the breakfast. Staff greeted us each time we entered or exited the lobby. The reason for the 1 star loss: -The elevators smell, I don't know what it is by my wife and I both noticed it every time we got into either elevator, it's not pleasant and we were in a hurry to get out. -When we came back to the hotel on night 2 our toilet was having issues. It wouldn't fully flush, it just very slowly drained down and then kept a really low water level. I called the front desk and told them, I advised them there was nothing in the toilet just water but we needed it looked at as we couldn't use it. They said the guy that could fix it had stepped out and would be back in about an hour. Fast forward 2 hours later and nothing. We call again and are told he didn't come back, the night audit guy could fix it wait for him in a couple hours. The night audit guy never came so I went downstairs. I asked if he was night audit and he said yeah and asked if I was the guy with the toilet issue. I told him yes, he said he had no idea how to fix it but handed me a plunger and said I was welcome to try to fix it myself. Not the best customer service I've had.

We also had a good dinner at Oceanic across the street. The pool was very nice and never very busy. Our rooms were clean and the place was quiet (except for footsteps above). Each suite is individually owned so there was variability in the kitchen set up (e.g., full-sized fridge vs smaller, oven vs toaster oven, high table vs regular table) and decor of some units is more updated than others. Also, my unit had blackout drapes but others didn't. They also had beach chairs, beach towels, and sand toys available to use. WiFi was fast enough to upload pictures to social media but was slow for more data-heavy tasks. Breakfast is available in the lobby starting at 7:30. There are no tables to eat in the lobby but they have trays so that you can take the food back to your room. They had fresh fruit, juices, cold cereal, instant oatmeal, instant grits, packaged pastries, coffee (no decaf), and tea. Taphne and Steven were extremely nice and very helpful. Location location location. Super convenient to all. Never moved our car. Beautiful water views, beautiful site coffee, little food area (pricey), and a great rooftop bar and restaurant. Balcony rooms lower two floors, we were in the second for our suite and it was great. Large open gym. Full equipment (or at least more than many gyms) open 24 hours. There is no pool- which we didn't realize but for our trip didn't need. Room- we had a double queen suite. LARGE. Large walk in shower, open sink area. Drapes to close over if needed. Open closet, loft vibe. Two queen beds, coat rack and tv on the next room. The next room was large and open with a long desk, full coach and chair, ottomans that could be used for extra seating, another tv, and a clear fridge that (wait for it) actually was cold. Long balcony with a small table and two chairs, side water view. We slept 5 comfortably here. Great- Shower pressure, super cold fridge, extra coat rack, balcony, space, pillows, service. Supplies steamer for clothes. Quick service for extra towels and the steamer and an iron. Also, you can use the hair dryer there- great pressure for my thick hair. Needs improvement- bed wasn't super comfortable for me, although pillows and comforter were. Not awful, just woke up a little sore. Cube ottomans should really be replaced with ones you can wipe- it was obvious people used for food and spilled

We were in for a Friday and Saturday stay for an art show in town. We wanted to be downtown so we could walk to restaurants and bars and the Aloft location was good for that. Our room (2 queens) was Aloft "standard". Although we only needed one bed the second bed gave us more room. Bath was fine and shower was plenty big enough. Our only complaint was the sheets don't stay on the bed while sleeping. Lets talk parking. They charge $25 a night for self park. They have very limited parking in front of the hotel. Friday night it was all full and I had to park on the top deck of the adjoining parking tower. Yes I was validated but never was I told this could have been a problem. More then half the parking lot is designated for either the Best Western or the railway museum. If I would have known, I would have sprung $5 more for valet. One of the reasons we picked the Aloft was the rooftop bar. They are SO understaffed that on Friday night they wouldn't sit us outside because of a lack of waiters. We were told by the host that it would be a 20 minute wait so we sat at the bar. An hour and a half later (after finishing our drinks and some food, he asked if we still wanted a table! Went back on Saturday and were seated outside pretty quickly. Same amount of staff but I guess the word got out to go somewhere else. They were suppose to stay open until midnight but at 10:30 the bartender (only 1) decided he had had enough and told the host to shut it down. REALLY? ON A SATURDAY NIGHT? We were done. NOTE - Our server (Savanah). Was great. If I lost 1.5 hours of tips, I would have been furious but she just took it in stride. There are other choices to stay in downtown Wilmington and next time we will try somewhere else (FYI - Embassy Suites has a rooftop bar too!)
