I visited Artesa Bakery on a Saturday morning hoping to get gender reveal cupcakes that were needed the next day for a gender reveal party. My procrastinating self was scrambling to find a bakery that would be able to fulfill my wishes. Unfortunately, because I had waited so late to put in an order, the soonest they'd be able to fill my order would be Tuesday of next week. Seeing my desperation, the woman who was working there quickly thought of another alternative- she happened to have extra mini cupcakes from a recent previous order that she could have decorated and ready for me to pickup later that day. I went in that same afternoon to pick them up and was absolutely thrilled with the result. I cannot thank Artesa bakery enough for not letting me walk away empty handed. Last Sunday August 20th I had my baby shower and was looking forward of picking up my cake for the shower. When my husband and I walked in I told the owner Mikayla I was picking up my baby shower cake and she had to look in her tablet to find my order. Right then I knew something was wrong. She had to go in the back and didn't say a word to me. This was definitely a red flag. We were waiting for almost 10 minutes before her co owner/husband came out to let my husband and I know that they didn't have my cake ready or even started it. We couldn't believe this! This was such an important day and they had ruined it. I planned and talked with Mikayla since April for this cake and I even had to remind her about the invoice in June because I had not heard from her. I should have seen this coming when I had to remind her of the contract and payment but I didn't think I would have to worry about this. Her husband was trying to make things right but couldn't even make a cake in time for my shower because they only had hour and half before it started. Then he was asking if we wanted a cake a different day. Why would we want that when we wanted it for our Baby shower. I was heart broken and crying. I would not even give one star for this bakery. I hope the owner Mikayla understand the scope of disappointment she had brought on by her lack of doing her job that she was paid to do. This has to be one of the best bakeries in Northern Illinois as a whole. It's a shame that I don't see a lot of people in the store. The food tastes great and has prices that are consistently below my expectations, and above all the owner seems like a nice person. I have to personally recommend the apple turnover. The filling is great, with enough apple chunks in it for it to taste high quality but not too much where it is jarring. It's also close by to a Meijer, so you can have a snack after you get your groceries. Every time I go by there's only a few other people in the store, and I hope that this review can help someone to get good food and support a local business at the same time. read more

The original owner moved, I wish I could give this bakery 5 stars like previous reviews, however I had a birthday cake ordered from here, the presentation was 5 stars. The taste was ok however it was dry around the edges of the cake while moist in the middle. I travel a distant for this cake because this bakery did my wedding cake, I wasn't happy, and probably will not return. I give Customer service is 5 stars. I went here a week ago for the first time attempting to support a new local business. I asked if they had any brownies and was directed to a bowl of individually wrapped brownies on the side counter. The total for 2 brownies was a little over $5. When I came home and took a bite out of the brownies about an hour later, they were both very dry and stale. As a courtesy, I called the bakery to let them know that the brownies they have are stale. Was told " ok thanks" and then a hang up . Very disappointed in the cannoli I bought here. It wasn't even full of the filling so basically I got a cannoli shell and a little filling. I hate when you pay for quality bakery goods and you don't get them. It wasn't cheep. I called the store and all the owner said was I'll tell the girl who fills the cannoli to make sure she fills them all the way. A lot of good that does me now. She didn't even offer to replace the cannoli. Bad customer service. :( read more

Well gosh damn it, throw out what you don't sell daily or sell at half price next day...At least this way your customers know what they are paying for. My favorite thing there are the Columbian turnovers. They are filled with pineapple and bacon, sweet & savory. A quaint atmosphere where you can sit and eat their wonderful baked goods . I came in for the gluten free items for my best friend . I met the baker who explained everything is baked fresh daily . The gluten free cookies were amazing ! The non gluten items were truly fresh and moist . I will be a regular patron . This is what Homer Glen has needed for a long time- a great bakery ! Martha, the owner, couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating in helping me pick out the perfect cake. While I was sitting at the cute table with her, I spotted one lone chocolate gluten free cupcake behind the glass counter. I used Artesa Baking for my bridal shower, bachelorette party and wedding. Martha, the owner, couldn't have been more helpful with picking out the perfect cake and desserts for my events. My bachelorette was in Nashville, and they made the cutest cowboy boot cookies. I had a two tier cake and sweets table at my wedding. When my husband and I cut our cake to taste it, it was delicious!! We kept wanting to have more!! The sweets table was a huge hit at our wedding. Went this Sunday to bakery, this bakery had 3 different flavored cupcakes a couple of cookies and cinnamon rolls. We get cupcakes and cinnamon rolls, get home cupcakes are hard and dry and when I say hard I mean hard my daughter couldn't even chew it. Everything we bought was stale, couple days old . I decided to place an order to support a local business so I ordered 20 sugar cookies with a baseball design for my child's birthday party. My husband sampled one and it completely crumbled and fell apart. The cookies were very dry, flavorless and more like a shortbread (but not even buttery) instead of a sugar cookie. I called to explain my disappointment and Martha, the owner, said that that's the way they make their sugar cookies and that it was a cross between two recipes. I told her that if was more shortbread-like, then it should've been explained that way instead of me expecting a sugar cookie consistency. All she said was ok thank you. The kids didn't eat them, they said it tasted bad and the frosting was too hard. What a waste. It's too bad because at almost $3 per cookie with bland flavor and no care for customer feedback, I will not be returning nor will I ever recommend this bakery to anyone. read more
