Obsessed! First of all, I love that you can make an appointment online. It just makes everything so much easier. I had Lupe as my nail artist and she did such an amazing job. It's hard to find a nail salon that has talented nail artists but Owner Ben has created a warm, welcoming environment at BB and his team of artists truly care about your nail health first, on top of style. I am a planner and always schedule appointments ahead of time. Since this was my first time at BeautyBar SGV, I read the Yelp reviews for technician recommendations and decided to request Vanessa. On Monday, the online system showed Vanessa had lots of availability for Thursday (I was leaving for a wedding on Friday) so I called to make an appointment at 9 am. I spoke with Ben who scheduled a 9 am with Vanessa for a mani and pedi. I received text confirmations that day to confirm, which I did, text confirmation reminders on Tuesday and on Wednesday. I arrive at 8:55 am. I tell the worker that I have a 9 am appointment with Vanessa and she looks at the computer and calls me by a different name. I corrected her with my name. She was confused and looked back at the computer. I told her that I could show her the the text confirmation appointments but she tells me sorry but Vanessa is booked all day and they have me with another tech. I explain that I specifically asked for Vanessa and made the appointment four days out. She calls someone on the phone and turns back to me to apologize that when another client called for Vanessa, she had asked the owner if I had made a request for Vanessa. He said no and to move me to another tech. I told her that I know it is not her fault, I am not blaming her nor am I upset at her. I explained that I made this appointment ahead of time with a request for Vanessa. The response back was, "if you want to have Vanessa do your nails, you can come back tomorrow at 9 am because she is available." I explained I had a wedding to leave to tomorrow and that was the reason I scheduled my nails today. (That comment about returning tomorrow is dismissive to a persons time). Annie, my new assigned technician was fine. When I went to pay early, they were offering me a 20% discount for the mix-up. I declined because I was using a free pedicure voucher that I had won. The total amount came out to be $20 and I tipped $15. When it was time to leave, Ben approached me and said he is sorry and takes full responsibility (I remember reading about this apology line in other Yelp reviews) I said, well I wasn't going to blame anyone else. My first time experience and first impression was disappointing. If you are not honoring technician appointment requests, why have them? read more

They were very communicative about their cancelation policy and followed up with scheduling suggestions and appointment confirmation. I live in the Pasadena area but find the salons nearby to change management too often or adjust pricing too frequently. I didn't mind the drive to San Gabriel. I chose to work with Alice because I see that she does a lot of really good work through their Instagram page. Their social media presence is incredibly engaging and up to date. They display a lot of the styles on their Instagram and it's a great spot for inspiration. Alice didn't disappoint. She's a cat lover like me and she was pleasant to chat with. She was helpful in choosing a color (so many options) and deciding on a style. They're very up front about their costs and there were no surprise fees. I texted beforehand to confirm pricing. 6 years later, I would still 10/10 recommend Beauty Bar SGV to any locals (and non locals!) looking for a salon to be a regular at! I no longer live in the 626 but I pretty much only come to this salon to get my nails done because of the quality and the care given to customers here. I trust all the staff as I've never really had a bad experience with anyone here. Some of my favorite go-tos are Vanessa, Vy, Tina, and Shelby. This is also the place I tried out GelX for the first time and I became OBSESSED with it lol I was never a long nail girly but I can't help but love the way my hands and fingers look with rounded almond nails from the gel extensions and I thank Kimi for putting me on! What I appreciate most about this salon is that they value quantity over quality. This means they're not saying yes to every appointment request just to get folks through the door. They have intentional scheduling to make sure each customers receives proper care for the services they've requested. Ben does an incredible job of helping me find appointment times (especially when I want to come with my sister and my mom) and also of being really understanding of my needs. I have never felt rushed here and have only ever felt taken care of! I like the selection of nail polish colors they have and I especially love the Japanese gel collection! Those colors are so beautiful and are more true to its shade once painted on your own actual nails. I noticed this is a very disability friendly salon too. As someone who used to walk on a cane regularly, I always felt helped and supported and never demeaned or seen as an inconvenience. They always accommodated me even without me asking. I've also seen customers with electric wheelchairs come to the salon and it sounded like they were regulars too. One of my favorite perks about coming here is seeing Bobby and Bella (the doggies)! Kimi and Ben are so fun and friendly and i love that they bring their kids everyday to greet the guests and lick their faces (they are dogs, of course!). I've been with Shelby for the last 2+ years and I couldn't be happier with her service and skills She truly makes anything you want come to life! I used to do gel x with no breaks in between and was able to have a gel x set for 3-4 weeks at a time with no lifting or any damage to the gel x. They have karaoke in believe once a month. I always seem to make appointments last minute and they can always accommodate. All the workers are great and friendly. The owner greats me by name. Started coming here because it's close to my mom's house. I really enjoy coming here and pampering my daughter and myself. It's great father/daughter time. It's our time. The service here has improved significantly over the years and this has been my go-to salon! The staff and owners are very friendly and the quality of the service has me going back every time! I wouldn't recommend BB as your technician though, as she "suggests" colors but really she wants to be right about HER choice of color for you. I would tell her what colors I was thinking but she would suggest other colors that I typically don't like or use. It felt as though I didn't have much say in what I wanted my nails to look like. She also didn't want me to try 2 different colors on one nail so I can compare how it looks, which I thought was odd because I have been able to do so in the past. Later, I find out that it was because she wanted to get my appointment over with so she can finish her shift. Since she was rushing to get it done, she cut me a bit in the process. I had to give them another review! I booked this through their website for Gel X w removal, and due to scheduling conflicts, I had to push back the time. They were super accommodating with it! Admittedly I wasn't so sure about my nail design since I didn't see my type of design anywhere on their social media, but Tram was so quick and efficient. She is insane! She saw what I wanted from two reference photos and delivered without batting an eye. In total it was $150. Then the nail tech said she she could do my nails because it was going to take longer than expected because I didn't tell her I had gel that needed to be removed. Reached out to me and asked if they did my nails for free if I could take down the review. Lol soooo I did. Nails weren't cute or anything after I went back but I kept my word and took the review down. I went back this weekend with a friend, as a treat from her. I'm over this place. Hella rude, and nails were basic. I also noticed the owner just replies to reviews saying "Sorry, I take full responsibility". Some reviews from years back to today.
