They open at 11am so we were one of the first people to roll in. Lots more people came in after us. Bebap has a some pretty sweet lunch specials. I got the jaechae with bulgogi which comes with banchan and a soda. Noodles, a drink, and a Korean apps for $15... not too shabby! I've been to Bebap about three times, and the food has been great every visit. Unfortunately, the service has been consistently disappointing. Our most recent visit wasn't busy, yet we waited several minutes before anyone came to our table, then had long waits for drinks, food ordering, and refills. We had to flag our server down just to get water and another round of drinks. On a previous visit, our server forgot about us completely after going upstairs, and we had to ask a busser for our bill. The food is excellent, but the service doesn't match the quality. We'd come much more often if the service improved. Management needs to do a better job balancing staff responsibilities so guests aren't overlooked. read more

Location is awesome. Downtown. Parking is free on the weekends and after 5 PM. Went in for brunch on Sunday and and ordered the Big Boy -- a version of bibim bap in a hot stone bowl that comes out still cooking. You mix everything in the bowl -- kimchi, bacon, spam, including two Sunnyside up eggs. And then the heat of the bowl continues to create a crunchy golden base of rice that is considered the favorite part for many traditionalists. $22 Side dishes are excellent vegetarian. This time there was kimchi, potato salad, and seasoned zucchini. That was my favorite. They have a substantial vegetarian menu as well. They introduced a "winter menu" that includes the beef short rib comfort soup which has Korean radish. Fried calamari with a gochujang aïoli. $15 Chicken Kabi which is stirfry chicken with sweet potatoes and cabbage and carrots. $23 Korean corn dogs which are mozzarella cheese sticks fried and dressed in mayo ketchup sugar. $7.50 each. I am really disappointed with the food, first of all, it's very pricey menu .though it was missing flour, touch of Korean spice and the quality wasn't good. We were super happy with Bebap! We had the Jajangmyeon (black noodles) - so good! Loaded with veggies, good noodles, and the sauce was great! A little rich though, so glad we shared. Honey KFC - also delicious. I assumed it'd be spicy since it has gochujang but it really wasn't spicy at all. Neither was the kimchi though. I'm used to Korean food lighting fire to my taste buds so it seems like they tone down the spice here which I'm not too mad about. The food here is solid. It's pretty flavorful and they actually make it spicy if you ask. The service is okay. I ordered online and showed up 15 minutes past when it was supposed to be finished. When I showed up, the entire restaurant was completely empty but they still hadn't even begun working on my order so I ended up having to wait. It is also extremely overpriced in my opinion. I paid ~$23 for the food seen in the picture. It was far too little for what I paid. I'm from Chicago and similar dishes there are less expensive. I grew up eating at mom and pop Korean restaurants in the south and was hoping to find one here. The food here was very very bizarre. The banchan was all off--the gamja jorim (potato) was crunchy instead of soft braised, and the bean sprouts were completely unseasoned apart from some oil. I ordered kimchi jjigae and it was bland and oddly thick like a potato soup, with very minimal kimchi. I practically dumped the kimchi banchan into my soup to try to balance it. The things I might pass on were the dumplings which felt a little mediocre and the pork belly which was a bit overcooked. I came in this afternoon and a customer came in to place a to go order and after waiting for 20 or 30 minutes. He asked the worker to let him know when it would be done and he stepped out and went to his car to wait. Then the worker proceeded to follow him and started to yell at him and furiously approach him like he was going to start a physical fight. He then told the customer that he can't expect the orders to be done any sooner except if they're for DoorDash orders. I don't know what type of training these employees are receiving, but clearly they're not getting trained at all. It is so embarrassing to support a business who treats their customers like this. Secondhand embarrassment is not even the right word to use to encapsulate this situation. This was simply wrong: to follow a customer to his car with a threatening attitude as if he was going to hit the gentlemen, then the cherry on top, to tell him off. He abused his power and looked down on a customer. Really disappointed in the staff here hopefully they are trained better in the future and things like this don't occur again. Visited the newest addition to the Rochester dining scene with a friend for Saturday lunch. Upon entering, we were immediately seated and greeted with friendly service. Decor was cute and the local artists did a great job. Menu was a more focused, subset of the dinner menu so if you're expecting to try all the dishes, you may consider visiting during dinner. One thing to keep in mind that this is "Korean inspired food," so that was one thing I had to level set with my friend as he was comparing it to what you'd find in the Cities or in Korea. Obviously this is not going to matter if you never had Korean food as it is dependent on any sort of benchmark that you may have. Also, Korean food is some of the cheapest to make, but due to the global influence and cultural export, a lot of these places (outside of OG Korean grandma establishments) are able to command a premium so expect to be paying $15-30 for an individual entree / appetizer that may or may not fill you up Ordered - Japchae (3/5). Friend ordered and it was a bit sweet. There wasn't as much color in terms of veggies (maybe 2-3 strips of carrots?) and the sweet potato noodles were a bit too soggy. A pretty simple dish to make at home (YouTube has some good tutorials) so hopefully a few more iterations and this dish can be improved. - Bibimbap (3.5/5). This was directionally in the right direction in terms of taste, texture, and overall presentation. The red sauce should theoretically be put to the side in case you'd like to control the heat. I did add an extra $5 for the bulgogi (making this dish $25...). If you look at dinner menu, this same dish is $22 + $5 for bulgogi. - Banchan (?). We were confused as we saw the note on top of menu of "one complimentary banchan service per table," but never saw any that arrived. Frankly, we forgot about this aspect of Korean cuisine until we saw other tables with their side dishes... This is a given and should always be refilled at no extra cost especially if you're getting the big margins from the premium pricing - Soju. Ordered some soju. Not giving a rating since it's sourced from a B2B but always goes well with greasy, hearty eats. My husband and I visited Bebap during lunch hours. It wasn't too busy and we were greeted and seated quickly. Table was nice, chairs were comfortable. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable, he answered all our questions about the menu and ingredients we weren't familiar with. Initially looking at my water glass it did have what looked like lipstick or something around the rim. I politely asked for a new glass and the server happily obliged, easy fix. We ordered 2 entrees and were pleased to find out we received starters at no cost to us. Our starters consisted of kimche, roasted potatoes and carrots, and bean sprouts. These starters were (I believe) intentionally cold but also tasty. We just chalked it up to - cold starters tricked your stomach into not being full. ‍ As for entrees we got: Japchae with the Beef Bulgogi - (for an added cost). This entree was quite tasty. I didn't notice much if any sweet potato noodles and next to none of the carrots. If you're a texture person like I am the noodles on their own aren't so appetizing. As for the Beef Bulgogi although the flavor was good and I could tell they were marinated the texture was quite dry and a bit rubbery for my liking. [4.5/10] Kimche Bokkeum Bap - We did NOT get the pork belly (for an added cost). Nothing bad to say about this entree. The flavors were great as well as the temperature of the food. The overall dish had a bit of a spicy kick to it, let's just say it will make your nose run a little bit but it won't make you start profusely sweating. [7/10] Overall the experience at this restaurant was pretty good but not super impressionable. For 2 entrees and 2 waters it was $50 with the tip. Just a smidge spendy if you ask me. Im glad I was finally able to try Bebap since they have been open for about a year. I tried a few dishes all where solid considering this type of food is not my favorite. The highlights where some of their crafted drinks invented by the staff and their hospitality. Cute little place with authentic Korean food. Loved the side dishes (banchan), just wished they gave us more for four people! Lunch menu is a lot more limited and doesn't include the stews just FYI. We got the tteok-boki (spicy rice cakes) and it was by far my favorite. The dish has a kick to it but the spicy flavor wasn't so overwhelming that you couldn't taste the fish cakes. Loved this dish! The Gimbap was also very fresh and went super well with the bulgolgi beef. Mandus are as expected, makes for a decent appetizer. The japchae was super soggy (like porridge). The banchan only consisted of two things which were subpar, dolsot bibimbap was room temperature to cold, and the toppings in it were not traditional. It also consisted of the two ban chan. It didn't taste really great, very bland. It actually took a long time to get my dish because it was messed up three times. Honestly not sure if my dish was corrected or if they just took off the unwanted ingredients. Overall, really nice concept. What I ate: (see their website to look at the photos of these dishes) Kimchi Pajeon = Delightful appetizer that is not spicy at all. If someone asked me what it compares to (as a description to), I'd say kinda-sorta like a Greek Spanakopitakia but larger pieces. Instead of cheese or spinach inside, it's sweet potato. I know there is more to it than this but to describe it now, that is what comes to mind. I will have it again. I would suggest they make a smaller version of this. The plate was so large that it was impossible to complete it in one sitting. But it is so good I wouldn't want to avoid ordering it due to its size (HINT: leftovers). Dakgalbi = My main dish was: Spicy Chicken stir-fry boneless chicken thigh, green cabbage, sweet potato, perilla leaf and scallion. This was served with a side of white rice. I Loved it!!! I added Mozzarella only because that was listed as an optional add on, but it wasn't needed. Don't get me wrong, it was amazing with the cheese, but the cheese didn't make the dish. I know I would have still Loved the dish had I eaten it without the add on Mozzarella. So personal choice on that front. Being a born-n-bred Minnesotan (Swedish/German descent), I was a bit concerned with the word "spicy" in the actual name of the dish. I like a bit of "spice" which I frequently refer to as "a bit of zip" but I will never understand the level of heat that causes actual sweating. The soup was so bland and flavorless, which is hard to do with kimchi and pork belly. It tasted like a bland tomato soup. The pork belly was chewy and it didn't taste like kimchi at all.
