My Son ordered Shrimp and Deviled Crab, he was served Shrinp and Clam strips. He finally got up and found watetriss about 15 minutes later she shows up with 1 Deviled Crab that had at least been fried Twice. We are always looking forward to our annual family dinner in Calabash. We tried Becks upon a friends recommendation. The bartender was extremely friendly and helpful. Our two servers, Lisa and Pat, kept their smiles while waiting on our party of 25. They sang happy birthday to Noah and our food was delicious. I had flounder and shrimp that was tasty. So its a great place for all you can eat crab legs without the buffet line. The crabs legs had a very good taste. You can get an entire plate of crab legs for $24 or all you can eat for $32, so all you can eat is definitely the better deal. Each round comes with a baked potato. I also had the crab cake sand which, wasn't the best. Mostly bread. The staff was friendly and on this Sunday night it was busy but immediate seating. My friend has chicken fingers and fries and it wasn't the best. The broiled shrimp and fish was great. I probably would only come back for the crab legs though. If you aren't a crab leg lover, its probably not the place for you. read more

One of only a couple restaurants on this little restaurant row to be open for lunch. Lunch special 5.99 - choose 1 or 2 (or maybe 3) of fish, shrimp, deviled crab and maybe another. Comes with fries, cole slaw and I think hush puppies. The puppies were addictive - almost like doughnuts. I ate 5. The shrimp was good. The fish was odd - very thin fillets with skin left on and overcooked I think, too dry. There were other interesting things on the menu but the lunch special was such a good deal our whole table ordered it. Atmosphere - a little dated but fine with a nautical theme. We come here every year for seafood, and it is always consistently good. The hush puppies are the best--ask for a second basket!--and don't miss their lunch specials. It is plenty of food for about half the price of dinner. (And dinner isn't cheap.) Calabash seafood is fried, and in a very light batter. Beck's does it very well, the food comes out hot and plentiful, though service can be slow but friendly, especially when they are busy (ok, that's obvious). The restaurant is pretty big, so getting a table, even for larger parties, usually isn't a terribly long wait (except on weekends). This is short review, but the food is great, and it is a local specialty that shouldn't be missed if you are in the area! Went again this year. Finally found a dish I liked on a tip from someone. Oyster stew. Served up in a tin looking cup with a handle to be poured into your bowl. The oysters were premium smalls which is preferable and the milk based stew was flavorful and seasoned well. Not overly salty or seasoned to mask the nice taste of the oyster. The only critique would be the lack of butter. Some may not care for it but a bit of butter in the broth is what I grew up with. I ordered the scallop sandwich to go with it which came fried as I should have assumed but would rather have braised. They were good but nothing at all accompanied it. Just fried scallops on a standard issue cheap hamburger bun. In fairness, they offered lettuce and tomato but that's not my gig. A nice roll and maybe some mango based or other sauce etc would be a nice touch. read more

Great menu, and excellent seafood. I ordered the all-you-can-eat crab legs and was able to put away 3 full plates! Super succulent and tasty. You can tell Becks deals with authentic fresh seafood. My wife ordered a steak and shrimp. The shrimp was very good, but the steak could've been seasoned before cooking. Kids menu is good if your kids enjoy seafood. Something unique to Becks is the salt scrub for your hands when finished eating any kind of seafood that leaves your hands with that post dinner smell. Don't waste your money here. Went here expecting delicious seafood based on the Yelp reviews I read, and was sadly disappointed! We ordered the raw oysters as an appetizer and they came out without the shell - basically just a pile of raw oysters. Not very visually appealing. I will say they were large, though. I ordered a kid's plate and it was the same size as the "pick two" my sister ordered (but a few dollars cheaper). I had shrimp and fish. Shrimp was good. Fish was nasty and soggy. Service was awful - the server made it clear that she didn't want to be there. I'd advise people visiting the area to the another spot. We will definitely not be going back. Starting with appetizers, the Buffalo shrimp (AKA Dynamite Shrimp) are great!!! A generous portion for sure served quickly and hot!!! The onion rings were stacked up and cut thin and we'll breaded. Service is moving well contrary to other post. It took about 30 mins to get in, but we were told that coming in. They have a very good selection of dishes to choose from. I've ordered the large 2 item player with clam straps and flounder...(writing as the meal progresses...) ok, we'll, the meals have came ...my wife was not happy with the crab cakes, said they tasted frozen and non-flavorful. She also got the crab bisque, says it was thinking and had the add a bunch of salt to get any flavor out of it. This was probably the best seafood restaurant in Calabash, North Carolina. We went to sit down and it was a few minutes till are waitress came to serve us. We all ordered the same drinks and she had them out in 2 minutes and we started to order are food. After around 15 to 20 minutes are food came out and it was just not fresh, it was fresh and delicious and the bill for are food, was incredibly cheap. Really nice casual ambiance inside and affordably priced. Plenty of room...you don't feel cramped by other customers. Fried flounder and shrimp were nice and crunchy. Hush puppies and French fries were the big stars of the show, funnily enough...seriously, they were really, really good. Go for lunch...lunch special is super affordable. Better than Calabash Seafood Hut...fresher tasting seafood (less greasy as well) and you aren't in your neighbor's lap. I do like the Hut as well but I get a little claustrophobic in there sometimes. This is one of my parents' favorite places to eat in Calabash. Today I went for the first time in years, and it has been nicely remodeled. Terrible. We had a party of 10 including a 3 year old. Only a couple of tables waiting when we were seated, and two other large parties came in after ours. We ordered some beverages from the bar that tasted like watered down kool aid and we sent them back. Finally placed our order with our slow waitress; after waiting for over 45 minutes, our food finally came out, cold and soggy from sitting in its own grease. Not to mention the other parties that were seated after us, got their food before we did! Our three year old was getting restless from waiting and when his corn dog bites arrived they were so greasy he couldn't even eat them. I had the stuffed flounder which was disappointing to say the least. The stuffing was like mush and the fish was not seasoned properly. Combined with the cold temperature, I could not eat it. My family and I eat at Beck's Restaurant often since we are locals in the area. Our food is always delicious-from the fried shrimp to the ribeye steak. The hush puppies are addictive and they will bring you as many as you want. We have never waited long for seating and all of the waitresses and staff are friendly, quick, helpful and cater to whatever you need. They have always been kind and patient with our children which is important for families who eat out with their children. Beck's is always clean and inviting to eat. We always check sanitation scores and I've never seen a bad score there-they even had a 100 hanging on the wall at one time. I give them credit there food was awesome but the service was horrible. One the employee uniform shouldn't be spandex. Two the waitstaff never checks on the food my food, wife's, and son's food was called cold. I couldn't complain because my waitress was never around. My mother an I went to try out Becks for the first time, it will be the last time. Service sucked no teamwork, they could have easily done a better job. They were real young, they just need a leader . the manager was rude also. Food was really greasy. I love coming to Calabash to eat, and usually try out different restaurants. This time, I went to Beck's. The inside decor was great, but that's about it. Horrible service, and my fried flounder was tasteless, overcooked, and full of bones. Also there was a family letting their children run wild, screaming and hollering, throughout the restaurant, and the staff did nothing about it. Needless to say, I think I will try other restaurants in Calabash from now on. read more
