After…read morereading the negative reviews it sounds like maybe their protocol wasn't communicated or maybe understood effectively. This shelter houses their animals in the most humane way I've ever seen. They also were incredibly informative about each dog I inquired about to ensure I found the best match possible. I spent about an hour waking through, asking questions, playing with the ones I was looking at in their awesome outside play pins to find the one I was looking for. I couldn't be happier with my new fur baby and this shelter and their employees for making sure I had all of the info possible to make the best choice! Myself and this little girl were so happy to have found each other! They even made sure she had toys a harness and leash to go home with! Thank you PAS! Y'all were amazing! I appreciate what y'all do and how y'all do it! Keep it up! All of you are doing an amazing job!

She ran away from home and ended up in the shelter for about a week. Because of whatever policies Plano has, they spayed her. Bella was 11, and it is incredibly high-risk to alter dogs at that age. Because of that decision, a few weeks later, Bella developed cancer. We took her to the vet to get checked out, and they told us how much the cancer treatment would cost. They also confirmed that when you spay older dogs like this, they are at a very high risk of developing cancer. Ultimately, she died. I had to put her down because she was in so much pain. Mark my words, Plano Animal Services, karma will come for you. May Bella rest in peace. I will never forgive y'all. Bella was healthy. She was my childhood dog, and I had her ever since I was almost 7 years old. Now, I am crossing the stage for my high school graduation today without her here--she is just watching over me instead.

For context: this happened 9 years ago back in 2017. I am finally writing a review about this…read moresituation because it still BAFFLES me to this day. We still crack jokes about this situation at any given time. At the time I was 13 years old and my mom and I were looking for a small dog to adopt. We were browsing shelters all around DFW trying to find the perfect fit for our family. We stumbled across Second Chance and decided to take a look at their small dogs, and that's when we found the cutest little brown Chihuahua! She was perfect, super adorable and amazing temperament. My mom and I instantly fell in love with her and were practically begging to fill out the adoption application. Once one of the adoption counselors sat down with us, she asked us basic questions (have you owned a dog before, was the dog spayed/neutered) etc! Basic questions that we easily had the answers to. Then the lady informs us that the little dog is heartworm positive, and asks us if we know what that is. Well yes we do know what heartworm is! She then asks if we have ever had experience with a dog that is heartworm positive. (This is when it gets absolutely ridiculous) My mom, thinking she was adding important insight and HOPING to inform the counselor that we will in fact actively treat her condition, said that she did have experience with a heartworm positive dog.....WHEN SHE WAS 5 YEARS OLD. IN MEXICO. IT WAS HER FATHERS DOG. My mom, at no fault of her own, once again let the counselor know what this was literally 25-30 YEARS AGO. And it technically wasn't her dog. She just grew up with this dog and knew that when her father first adopted it, it was heartworm positive. And of course they treated and cured the dog of heartworm as well! But, it didn't matter. The lady took the little dog out of my hands and said they don't adopt to anyone who has had a dog in the past that was heartworm positive. My mom was baffled and once again tried explaining that it wasn't her dog. They didn't care. I was sooooo upset and honestly I was mad at my mom for even saying anything but in retrospect it wasn't her fault. That rule is absolutely ridiculous especially if it apparently counts towards when you were a child with no autonomy over what animal happens to be in your life. I don't know if they still operate like this, but do yourself a favor and just go to Operation Kindness. A million times better and amazing customer service as well. This is where we ended up finding our new member to the family, Bella! This place definitely has first come first serve on animals but with their STAFF (as seen in other reviews posted) and they make it very obvious by the insane rules and "criteria" they use for adopting out a dog/cat. I am 22 years old now and still would not recommend.

Furry Friends Animal Rescue - Here's the kitten that we adopted elsewhere after Furry Friends DECLINED OUR APPLICATION!

I highly recommend avoiding Furry Friends Animal Rescue, as many others have mentioned in their…read morereviews. Their cats are showcased at the Petsmart locations in McKinney, specifically at 121/Custer and 380/75. Our experience with them was extremely frustrating from the start. The person we initially sent our adoption application to completely ignored us. After some time, we managed to reach another staff member over the phone, who informed us that the person handling applications tends to just not respond if they don't like something in the application. After a lengthy conversation, we agreed to meet the next day (Friday) to adopt two baby kittens. I took time off from work, using 48 hours of vacation, so we could spend the weekend helping the kittens adjust to their new home while we were off work. However, on Friday morning, we received emails and texts saying that while we could meet the kittens, we couldn't take them home. This was because it was Petsmart's adoption weekend, and they were concerned that they would lose the Petsmart location if they didn't have cats to show. To clarify, they wanted to present two kittens that had already been adopted, purely for appearance's sake. Despite this, we still decided to meet with the representative that afternoon at Petsmart to see the kittens. We immediately fell in love with them, but when we started asking about the adoption process, things got complicated. I asked if their priority was to ensure the animals had a home or if it was more about appearances--since the goal should be finding a home for these animals. The response was just, "I know." When I asked if they were okay with keeping the kittens caged up for three more days, in a dark, empty store, just to maintain appearances, and if they realized they were misleading potential adopters by showing kittens that had already been adopted, the only answer was again, "I know." We were then told to email the foster mom directly, explaining my occupation and mentioning that I had taken off 48 hours of work. The associate we were with told us she was trying to contact the foster mom while we were there but that there was no reply. We spent about 45 minutes in the facility, during which we were crammed into a tiny space smaller than a closet with three cats. My daughter absolutely loved them. But when we asked about the next steps, we were told we weren't a good match because they thought my 4-year-old daughter was moving the cat wand too quickly. To clarify, our daughter has grown up with animals and has had cats before. Yes, she was excited, but that's because the cats were finally getting to move around after being cooped up in a cage. Our home is much larger than the small space we were shown in, and we always supervise her with pets. In fact, she's not allowed downstairs without an adult because we have a safety gate. At the end of the day, it became clear that optics were the priority for them. It felt like the foster parent wanted to keep the kittens all along, which is why they ignored our application and why the kittens were only at Petsmart for the adoption weekend's appearance. Don't waste your time with a rescue that claims to be advocates for animals when their actions clearly show otherwise.

We are a loving famiy with adequate financial resources and our application was denied because "we don't own another pet" The whole point of adopting is to own a first pet!!!! My previous vet missed something critical on a GSD that cause the dog pain and the dog was reactive to touch and he labeled the dog as having a temperament issue and suggested that I put the dog down. Nope. Enter Dr Pilkington. After the issue was solved with the pain from another Houston area vet, I started bringing my dog to Dr Pilkington. Drs Brewer and Cinclair would also sometimes work with Dominic. Dominic only lived to 8. He was a high energy working GSD that had lots of drive. At about 5 we found him unresponsive in his crate after we woke up. We rushed him to the clinic and Dr Pilkington made room for him in his schedule. It took a bit to stabilize, but his blood-sugar was dangerously low. Almost fatal low. Eventually, he was stabilized and found to have Addison's disease. The team was able to extend his life for another 3 years with Dominic being in good shape on his medicine. Eventually, his condition got the better of him and he passed. His last month or two, Dr Pilkington did his best to see if an adjustment to his meds was all that was necessary. He also helped us ease his transition. I won't be bringing my animals to any other vet. This team is phenomenal. I've read some feedback about price. I don't really agree. I find the team in line with high quality care. You get what you pay for. I don't find them unreasonable at all. They are phenomenal with large breed dogs.

I was willing to drive the hour and a half to see Dr. Pilkington without hesitation. However, I was contacted by Custer McDermott Animal Hospital to inform me that they would no longer approve Chewy prescriptions, and I would have to drive an hour and a half to pick up a paper prescription and mail that into Chewy if I wanted to use Chewy. The vet clinic charges a lot more than Chewy so no I won't be giving Chewy up, I won't be driving an hour and a half for a slip of paper as the clinic email stated. The clinic has no power over where and how I spend my money. I will be giving up Custer McDermott Animal Hospital and sadly Dr. Pilkington. To be clear, David Pilkington is the one and only reason we have been loyal to this clinic for all these years. If not for David, we would have changed clinics years ago. Now, they have given us reason to change simply out of greed. Vet care is as expensive , meds are expensive. When the clinic makes a petty policy that costs you more money, you shop around.
