Just a note that if you don't like dogs, don't bother coming here. They had two dogs, a Boxer and a very friendly/hyper French bulldog (I believe.) This place is a bit pricey but it is a haircut in the area. All the barbers are nice and there are a whole lot of them. I usually wait around 10-15 minutes or so depending on what time I get there. This place is the ONLY barber shop, that I've been able to find, that does RAZOR CUTS. I have very fine hair and I've found that haircuts done with a straight razor are best for me. I ALMOST gave up trying to find a barber who would do it; it used to be commonplace! Perhaps it is a tradition is disappearing. Anyway, the gentleman's name is "Mustafa." "Great Space and nice barbers" I used to come here years ago when they were located on 60th. I was in the area and really wanted/needed a haircut. I was in and out in 30 minutes, which is pretty good for a Friday. There were about 6 barbers and there was a variable age range of clientele. My barber did not chat with me too much, which I like because I was having an annoyed day. The place is pretty clean and new (since they recently moved). A basic cut is about 18 bucks; I pretty much got a shaven cut all around. I thought that this was a little pricey, since I used to cut my own hair but this may be the standard rate in the city. However, the barber did a razor shave to line me up and there was a hot towel treatment after, so I guess that goes into the price. Also, the dog, Dutch, is a cute addition. read more

Oh boy I was in for a rude awakening the barbers razors were unsanitary his mask was halfway on my haircut was uneven and sloppy my sideburns 1 was way shorter than the other the haircut took him near a whole damn hour to cut! I didnt get his name but he had on red sneakers I will not be returning and will let my colleagues know as well. I followed these guys over from 59th street. Although it's a little further from my place, it's worth it. It has more space with hardwood flooring and lots of windows overlooking 1st Ave. The service is still fast, although there's always a line. It's the same people, and you get the same haircuts, shaves, hot towel wraps, etc. Still the best deal out there. It's $18 for a men's cut (cash), $19.50 (credit). Make sure you bring cash for the tip though because that was not an option for the credit card. Don't be put off by the wait. It's never that bad if you can still get a seat in the waiting line. They have 6 people cutting, and the haircuts are fast. Service is phenomenal. Super friendly. The dogs are wandering around being cute. read more

This is a five-star establishment through and through. My guys are Al and Ruben. The barbers here go out of their way to make you feel comfortable from the minute you walk in the door. Last week I was feeling a bit adventurous and went for one of those pompadours the kids are going crazy over. Love these guys! My husband has been going here for over 5 years, and a couple years ago I decided to give it a go as I have short hair and the price is right. Steve, the owner usually cuts my hair and he is very careful not to give me a "guy" cut. Today I had my haircut by Danny, who has only been there a week, and he was excellent as well. The new location is very nice and more airy - definitely a huge advancement in digs! I highly recommend Bedford Barbers - you can't get a better cut in the city for the price. Every barber that Steve (the owner) has working there is caring, experienced, and a true artist with the clippers. I had been to many barbershops before finding Bedford Barbers, but now I only go here because I trust them, they are always accommodating to my schedule, and it feels like a community when you come in. Been coming here for several years now and usually leave with a great haircut. Today a new guy cut my hair, not seem him in the shop before. Older guy, gray hair, mustache. The experience was not great, he didn't seem to understand what I was asking for, I asked for short and textured and messy on top and what I got was close to a flat top! As I tried explaining what I wanted one of the regular barbers had to come over and tell him what to do! Got to the point where I figured it wasn't going to get any better and called it a day. Stick with one of the other barbers and you'll be golden although this has left a bad taste in my mouth after years of great cuts here. read more

I came here based on a client's recommendation and the Yelp reviews. I've been here 4 times. Each time I left unsatisfied. How difficult is it to have a "4" on the sides, hair parted on one side, and keep the front longer than the back? Each time I left looking like a monchichi. I don't believe in telling the barber what to do in the middle of their work. I risk him being unhappy/annoyed and most of all a bad haircut. If I wait till the end then it'll be too late for adjustments. Either way I'm SOL. The shop: Conveniently located. Easy to find. Well lit. Decent benches in waiting area. Good chairs for the customers. Service : Pros: 3 of 4 were quite friendly and made an effort to build a client customer relationship. All 4 consistently used the hairdryer to blow the hair off of me. I never left the shop with hair in my ears, neck and the back of my clothes. 2 of 4 used a hot towel for my face near the end. You would think theses "pros" would be normal but not every barbershop offers this. Cons: Lacking basic service. Gel/hairspray wasn't offered at the end for 2 visits. The use of a mirror to show the back of the head wasn't offered for 3 visits. They knew I would notice their oversight on the cowlick. I've given this place plenty of chances to keep my business. I am unsure if I'll ever come back. My critique is strictly for the 4 barbers I had seen. Not for the whole shop. I wish I remembered the names so that the shop could improve the training of its barbers as well as for other reviewers to confirm/deny my review. In context newbie barbers are usually free and available vs well established ones. If I wasn't in a rush I could've done some research in asking for someone more experienced. 2 stars for unsatisfactory experience and below average service. read more

I was in New York for a couple of days and thought I'd treat myself to a hot towel shave. Bedford Barber's website says Walk-ins Only, so in I walked with no appointment. It's fun to see the chap snap the fresh razor out of its paper envelope and drop it into the jar of blue goo, and the warm foamy cream feels nice on your face under the hot towel... so far so good. Then the barber starts 'shaving' me. He's going all over the place with random strokes, changing direction and face location at a whim. I think he must know what he's doing, so I relax into it. He's a professional after all, right? After 5 minutes, I walk out of there all talc-ed and fresh. Now I treat myself to a rub of my smooth face and notice something is wrong. He's completely missed my upper cheeks, and patches on my chin and neck. I can't go through the day like this, so I have to trudge sheepishly back up the stairs and ask the barber to finish the job. It was like he was expecting me. 'Oh, I missed your cheeks. I forgot. I'll do that now.' Fair enough, I'm not in a rush. 5 minutes later I walk out again and notice that he actually hasn't found the bits he missed the first time. Now I'm a bit confused, angry and super embarrassed to walk back up the stairs and ask the young man at the front if they sell disposable razors so I can do the job myself. I just paid $20, plus a tip for an incomplete job. This guy asks me if the other barber missed some parts again, then offers to finish the job himself. I agree to have him take care of it. 5 minutes later I'm covered in razor burn on my chin and neck, and bleeding from a couple of spots. I don't know if this third shave in 20 minutes was too much for my skin, or if the guy was overcompensating for his colleague's incompetence, but it hurt a lot and looked awful. I don't think the dissatisfied customer should have to shoulder the additional burden of dictating customer service policy, so I didn't ask for my money back. I can't honestly say if I was unlucky with who I got, or if their other services are more professional, but I think it speaks volumes of an establishment that when a simple job like this is utterly botched three times, the client is offered no refund, no partial refund, no complimentary bottle of shaving cream, not even an apology. All I got was a shrug of the shoulders and a paper towel to help soak up the blood for the rest of the morning. Bedford Barbers ruined my second day in New York. Never come here for a hot towel shave. read more
