It was a dark and stormy night with a horrible downpour but we didn't let that stop us from going to BEECH. Absolutely terrible experience. Walked into Beech and the place was practically empty no customers in sight. Despite that, it took 30 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge me or take my order. The waiters were literally sitting at the far end of the restaurant, drinking Coke and chatting like it was their day off. No sense of urgency, no apology, nothing. Absolutely wonderful first-time dinner at Beech. Our friends and we were seated promptly for our reservation at 8 and quickly became fast friends with our server, Megan. She made great suggestions and had plenty of laughs with us throughout the evening. Took my husband here for his birthday. It was a beautiful night and we sat outside near the towering beech tree at the bar. Had a good server (young but helpful and trying hard) and really enjoyed those Stoli Dolis! Our dinner was good, not great as we'd hoped, but still enjoyable with fresh dinner rolls upon request. My linguini and clam sauce wasn't very hot and his blackened swordfish wasn't very big -- but both were tasty and enjoyed. People near us got the burger and crab cakes -- both looked good. I went with my wife and was quite surprised by how rude the people behind the hostess stand were. They made us feel like it was a privilege to be allowed in and talked down to us. After Trattoria was sold, got new owners, and rebranded, I could not wait to revisit and see how it changed, especially as the old Trattoria was already so amazing and a lot to live up to. Visiting Beech at the same time, I was wowed! The food is exquisite! The menu is unique and different, ingredients are fresh and taste so good. Each food item has such a colorful and flavourful set of ingredients that you cannot go wrong no matter what you choose. The blackened swordfish was absolutely delicious, the oysters were memorable, everything down to the fries tasted seriously yummy! It is clear that the restaurant has top-of-the-line Master Chefs on premise. Also, as I'm a dessert girl, I must share that the deserts here are such must-have sweet goodness. The quality of the service is top, fast, professional, expert servers. Plus the location is enormous, with so many rooms and sections. This gem of a restaurant is a cornerstone of the Jamestown experience. tips: book in advance to get reservation, go for earlier dinner to have a higher chance of getting space and getting in. Some reviews are a pleasure to write, this isn't going to be one of those. Admittedly, I've been holding off on writing critical comments, given how hard COVID has been on the hospitality industry I have a hard time piling on. And then we have what happened here. Misleading would be generous, wrong even, what this restaurant seems to have done is more than that. And its not right. Beech has on its menu a fancy burger. They have a lot of other stuff, but one of the items is a burger. "Hand-packed Pat Lafrieda beef, vine-ripened tomato, lettuce, red onion, toasted potato bun." Normally I wouldn't order a burger in a place like this, but Pat Lafrieda, that's the meat purveyor for some of the best burgers in the world. Minetta Tavern, Eleven Madison Park, Shake Shack, they all serve (or use to) custom blended Pat Lafreida beef. I myself have ordered by mail Pat Lafrieda beef, chopped btw, they avoid "ground" in a real Lafrieda blend, as a special treat. And this place, in little sleepy Jamestown, is making the same special effort, how could I not. Except they're not either. You see I ordered this burger, And its no Lafrieda. I know, you're going to ask, how do I know? Did I trace the burger, did I test its provenance, its DNA? How do I know, other than I couldn't even eat the dusty, dry, mealy overcooked hockypuck I was served? Its that first word. The burger they serve here is "hand packed Pat Lafrieda beef", their menu says so. Well its not. On my plate, what I bought, what I was served was a processed machine packed puck of ground beef. My guess is that its not even Grade A beef they are serving, my guess is that its Choice bulk frozen at best, but that's merely a guess. Don't worry, I've included a photo of my disappointment. Feel free to have a look. Perfect circle, flat and round, pumped through a machine and sliced up by the same. Hand packed Lafrieda, not even close. On the plus side, my displeasure was so obvious that our server strived to make it right. In addition to offering desert to compensate for the poor meal (my wife's Steak Frites also overdone and without flavor), the restaurant picked up the tab on our drinks. The free Champagne (Tattinger no less) and the very nice warm floured dinner rolls were the highlights of our meal, along with a server who did her very best, so there were upsides. A great spot in the heart of Jamestown! Came here on a Monday night in the fall so less busy than a weekend but it was still bustling up in the treehouse! Fun cocktails and decent wine by the glass list (but try bottle list was a bit limited). We split mussels for an appetizer (would have been too much for one person), and i had the Atlantic salmon and he had the simply grilled halibut. Both were fresh and delicious. This is such a cozy spot. Every room/area is different, yet all have that same relaxed and comfy beachy-chic atmosphere. It was very busy when we went, and a sudden and heavy rainstorm had forced many of the outdoor patrons inside right as we arrived... which caused quite a packed mess. All of the staff, however, handled it like champs. We waited for a few minutes while they worked as quickly as possible to clear tables and get everyone seated. The hostess was excellent about not only organising the tables, but consistently communicating with us about our shrinking wait time. Our waiter was also on the ball; he dealt with the craziness with such class and ease. The food was delicious, albeit a bit small on the lobster roll. Their beet salad was the best I've ever had. I could've eaten triple that amount for a whole meal! The one gripe I had was that it was very loud. We were seated in the middle of the room which is always the worst spot for compounding noise, but it would've been loud regardless of our location. If you're looking for a more quiet locale, this place on a busy night is not the best option. read more

Beech is one of those places that I could come back to 100 times and not get tired of. I visited for the first time Friday night with my boyfriend just to get a drink at the outdoor bar. The ambiance is unbeatable and our drinks were absolutely delicious. After perusing the food menu we knew we had to come back. We were able to return last night for a 7:15 reservation with another couple however unfortunately, minutes after we sat it started to rain. The server and host graciously moved us to an indoor table where we enjoyed the most incredible meal. We started with the mussels and then order the swordfish and scallops. Sorely Disappointed. The last couple visits have not gone well. My first in a long time, I was basically told to hurry up and order as we need this table for another party. WTF?? Recently, ordered some take out. The ribs appetizer was very dry. And the pasta special very very bland. In the past, when I've order their pasta bolognese it too was bland and lacking not much of the meat sauce. So I thought I would try the pasta special. We stumbled upon this great restaurant while visiting the island . The restaurant feels newly updated with classic navy and crisp white decor... we sat in the glass enclosed room overlooking the street and harbor. There is outdoor seating also. The bar is a beautiful copper top and the the black and white tile tastefully accent the decor. We had the beer battered Fish n chips and French onion soup and they were both top notch. The batter was crispy and the fish was flaky, moist and flavorful . The fries were hand cut , perfectly seasoned with a very refreshing slaw . The onion soup was savory and full bodied broth with a delicious Gruyère crust melted over a slice of toasted sourdough. Our waiter , Peter was attentive and polite. It was a perfect meal! read more

Went to Beech for an early dinner this evening. Their outdoor space is just beautiful and inviting. We saw Dominic, a person we knew from years at the White Horse Tavern and it was nice to see him! He's the new GM there and there is no doubt he will do a super job for the restaurant! Just a great guy. Unfortunately, our experience at the outdoor bar was not good, at all. In a nutshell, the head bartender Natalia just couldn't seem to get it together. I ordered a glass of champagne and got a club soda, which was appreciated, but it wasn't champagne. She eventually got it for me when I reminded her. No big deal. Bartenders are busy these days. We then ordered food. That was a fiasco. As we watched people in seats next to us eat, drink and turnover, our food never came. She kept passing us to serve drinks but it never occurred to her that there was no food. We finally asked another bartender (they share clients) who was from New Hampshire (didn't know her name) if she could check on our food. She said she'd go to the kitchen and do so. She immediately went to the register to check the tickets to see what we had ordered. It was plain from the look on her face that there was no food on our ticket. Rather than addressing it, she just went to the other side of the bar and began pouring drinks for those customers, never going to check on our food, never coming back to address us. We knew why. And she didn't want to have to deal with it. After another 20 minutes, we finally got Natalia's attention again and she admitted that she never put in our food. Although she took ownership of it and offered to order our food for us, at this point, we had been at the restaurant for two hours and we had had enough. We went home to order a pizza, which arrived when it was supposed to. She did comp us a round of drinks -- a $12 glass of champagne, can of beer and loads of club soda that I drank while waiting for food that was never going to come. That she had the nerve to hand us a $38 bill for a round of drinks and an app was simply appalling and truly in bad form and just contributed to an already unsuccessful experience. This was not how we wanted to spend a Friday night date. read more

Did not get all of the components that came with my appetizer $16 I asked for it on the side for my companion since I couldn't eat it. No gluten free bread available here! Had $48 Halibut, a bit dry over undercooked rice. By the time server asked how it was it was getting cold and 1/2 eaten. Should have never said we were visiting, the table next to us got great service while we had to beg for water etc. This restaurant should use gluten free soy sauce so all guests can enjoy a sauce! Really no excuse for these prices and how common Gluten Free needs are. Get a rice cooker please! Absolutely delightful! Super nice spot in Jamestown, upscale but not stuffy. Food was delicious and service was the best we could have asked for! Very nice wine selection and craft beers on draft. Everyone at the table loved their food and the timing from appetizers to dinner entrees was perfect. We will definitely be back! Dessert options were fantastic as well! Looked more like a medallion than a filet. And the dish is $48! Do you always serve women a smaller portion than men? I still can't believe it. As a Rhode Island local and a seafood lover, My friend insisted she bring me here for my birthday present. Our server was awesome first of all. I forget her name, but she was Great!! We started off with a simple green salad, and the hamachi crudo. I am a mezcal lover and like to keep it simple so I ordered a spicy marg off menu. We split the lentil veggie entree and the simply grilled swordfish. Fish was sooooo fresh the squash that came alongside was stellar. Veggies in the lentil entree were a bit undercooked, especially the carrots, and I wish there was a bit more sweet potato purée, but it was okay, probably my least favorite.
