ZERO STARS!!!!! Horrendous Customer Service!!!!! Our first visit was in '24 was an excellent experience. My original review Is under "Newport Island Resort". 8/3/25: Our present and "last ever dining experience here" was a Major Disaster! (Because of this terrible present dining experience, I wouldn't even think of staying at this resort). The only highlight was the beautiful sunset! **We reserved through Opentable, which is an entirely another scenario I'll get to later. My friend had confirmed the reservation. We came to the Host. We informed him that two other persons in our party were on their way very soon. Just during the short time, the Host looked very annoyed . He asked us where we wanted to sit. He had escorted us to the table. Quickly, we decided we wanted to sit at another table. Not surprisingly, the host looked annoyed again. Just wanted to say, there were only a few people dining at this time. A few minutes later, our two friends came to join us at our table. The server came over to take our drink order. Two of my friends ordered beers, one ordered a bourbon. I ordered a Mocktail "Espress-no Martini". My friends drinks were brought over. It took "forever" for my drink to come. I asked the server when my drink would be coming. He said soon. The server "finally" brought a Mocktail over that was "Pink" in color. I told him that there was no way this could be an Expresso-no Martini, since this was pink in color. I told him my drink would have coffee in it and be "Black". The server started continuously arguing with me, that I ordered another mocktail. I specifically informed him that he was incorrect. He finally took the drink back and eventually came back with the correct mocktail. Unfortunately, this mocktail was terrible. In the meantime, I saw the manager go over to the table next to us and start chatting. I was about to say something to him, and at that time he had walked away. In addition, a good manager would be going to all the tables to find out how their evening was going etc... The server came back to take another drink order. My friend who had ordered the bourbon had ordered this time a beer. The server came back with another bourbon for him. What a surprise! The food we ordered was not even that good. **A few days later, my friend received an email from OpenTable basically asking why we didn't show up for our reservation. My friend emailed OpenTable that we appeared for our reservation.

Had a great sunset dinner at the Torpedo Bar & Lounge! The sunset views are well worth the visit. I was not sure what the expect due to the low ratings for this restaurant, but I had a great time and thought the service was good. The cocktails and the food were great! The vodka pasta with meatballs was very good and my husband enjoyed his fish and chips. I would return to the Torpedo Bar & Lounge again!

The restaurant is really nice and has plenty of seating. It even features a fireplace, a pool table, and darts along with other games to play. I ordered the wings, lobster roll, burger, and a chocolate chip cookie cake. The wings were my favorite because of the flavorful chili sauce. Even though the restaurant was almost empty with just a few other tables, the service was disappointingly slow. If the service is the same during the summer months, you might end up waiting a long time. The prices on the menu were a bit high for the quality of the food. I'd recommend this place if you're staying on the property, but I think there are much better options in Newport.

Food was delicious!! And the service was super helpful and accommodating. With the silly ratings on here, I wasn't sure what to expect but was blown away. Our waitress provided us with blankets on a chiller night. They were on high alert with my friends allergies. I will definitely be back!! We had a beautiful view of the water and the decor was beachy and comfortable !

There's a reason this was one of the only restaurants with reservations on a Saturday night. The only redeeming quality about this restaurant was the view. An absolutely stunning location for sunset, however, every dish served to my party of 5 was incredibly bland. Quite disappointing to have simple dishes turn out so bad. Our waitress was kind but our food arrived before our utensils. I also wish there was some, even minor decor on the table - rather than completely bare. Recommend only stopping in for a cocktail, save your money for food elsewhere.

The restaurant was packed, and since we didn't have a reservation, we ended up sitting in the bar area. Honestly, that wasn't a bad thing--the views of the sunset and the wharf were beautiful. The drinks came out quickly, although my cocktail had way too much citrus. The oysters arrived next, and they were fresh and delicious, so we were all feeling pretty good about the meal and looking forward to our entrées. Unfortunately, that's where things went downhill. We waited an entire hour for our entrées to arrive, and the waitstaff wasn't very forthcoming with updates. We had to track someone down anytime we had a question or needed something, which became very frustrating. Once the food finally arrived, it was disappointing. Several of the dishes were extremely salty. I ordered the swordfish, which was slightly overcooked, and the vegetables were overwhelmingly acidic, as if an entire bottle of vinegar had been poured over them. They were also topped with a generous amount of capers, making the dish even saltier. Overall, it just wasn't enjoyable. I mentioned my concerns to our waitress, but unfortunately, she didn't seem particularly concerned. Hopefully, she passed the feedback along to the chef so some adjustments can be made. The beautiful waterfront setting and fresh oysters were definitely highlights which gained a star here but unfortunately, the long wait, lack of communication, and disappointing entrées overshadowed the experience.

Very fresh and honestly, very affordable for the aesthetic, quality, and taste. Plus the service is great. I've had their pastas, entrees, apps, pizza, and drinks and there is nothing you can go wrong with. My personal favorites is their kale salad, chianti marsala braised beef and mushroom tagliatelle. Again, the quality is great and everything is seasoned/ flavored well. Plus their pastas are homemade! They also give free bread, who doesn't love that? I cannot recommend this place enough. Perfect for a date night or night out with friends.

We loved the olives and the roasted beets! The whipped Gorgonzola was a perfect match for the beets, not overpowering at all. After much thought over the menu, I decided to go with the short rib. The short rib was not fatty and it was super tender. I was able to pull it apart easily with my fork. The mashed potatoes were great and complimented the dish with the short rib sauce. I wasn't a fan of the tequila drink that I ordered, but my glass of wine paired very well with the short rib.

We sat in the Conservatory and I loved being surrounded by lush foliage and clean black and white stripe decor. On to the food--- This is not a drill. Do not skip the raw oysters. The mignonette - excellent! They were the best of the weekend (and we have had quite a bit) Our server Tiffany was attentive and made excellent suggestions. We ordered crab toast as well and it was very very good. Then followed with a Caesar salad and clam chowder to share. I couldn't decide between little neck clams and the rabbit tagliatelle and she brought the clams as a surprise. They were HANDS DOWN the best I've ever had. She really made my night. The pasta was also incredible. My selections were favorites of the table. A dinner companion ordered a steak but it was a little over cooked but the manager Rory went above and beyond taking care of us. I'm not sure what they do to make the most perfect French fries but hands down I've never had one like this. Figure out a way to order them. The Can't Elope cocktail was the best I had in Newport. It was balanced, refreshing and all around perfection. We also loved the Paper Tiger! Finished with a sticky toffee pudding that was a star of the meal. I wish I wasn't so full or I would have finished it I cannot recommend this restaurant enough 5 stars.

We chose the Conservatory for our lunch, and that was the right choice! Nice bright, garden room feel, with big windows. Service was fantastic and the food was amazing. It was inexpensive, of course, but it was well worth the experience.

For our first night in Newport, we dined at Flora at Gardiner House. The ambience was very nice,…read moreif not romantic. However, the tables were a bit too close together for my liking. I don't like hearing what others discuss; nor do I want them listening to us either. It was that kind of close. However, the food was quite good. One of the highlights was their Heirloom Tomato Gazpacho Soup, made with Heirloom Tomatoes, Cucumber, Green Peppers, Red Wine Vinegar, Red Onion, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It was served pureed. I probably would have liked some of the cucumber and green pepper tossed in the soup finely diced just for a little crunch, but the soup tasted fine, and we always love when gazpacho is offered, which is rarely. We also tried the Pulpo a la Plancha, which was charred octopus over a bed of corn, red pepper and a few other items (that I now don't recall.) The octopus was good... I've had better elsewhere, but this was still good. Not seasoned all that much, and perhaps, a bit too charred, but we made it work. The star of the evening were the scallops. We actually split the entree, and with a side addition of broccolini, it actually was enough food for us, since we both had the gazpacho and octopus as appetizers. Amazing how growing older has diminished our appetites... but we figured that since we're on a road trip, it's not like doggy bags for leftovers will work out, so we didn't want to waste any food and just ordered the one entree. There were five good size scallops (already a bonus cuz most restaurants only give THREE, and they gave FIVE at Flora). It came with Corn Puree, Roasted Corn pieces, Tomato Gazpacho, Truffle Dust, and Sweet Potato Crisps. The scallops were succulent, flavorful, and meaty. Absolutely delicious... and the accompanying corn and tomato flavors added even more flavor. We would've licked the plate if we could. Lastly, the sangria was sweet and refreshing. I would definitely return here if we ever get back to Newport.

Flora is now my new Favorite restaurant in Newport!…read more As a May baby I take my restaurant reservations very seriously. So when we made plans to spend the day in Newport, I had some time to book the perfect restaurant. Also, a few choices came to mind, but then I found Flora. Flora is fairly new to Newport. A Mediterranean hot spot with gorgeous views in the beautiful Gardiner House, which used to be a vacant lot. The good - Parking can be difficult around here since its down a side street off Thames. They do Valet for $25 which I thought was a bit steep. So, we eventually found metered street parking. Upon walking to the restaurant we were greeted by a very friendly attendant. He showed us the way to the restaurant which was up a few flights of staircases. The great - Once inside Flora we were greeted by a very nice Hostess. She brought us to our table which was overlooking the ocean. The ambiance is stunning! Our server came over and we ordered a bottle of water and some drinks. Then, we also ordered one of their popular appetizers called Jamon Con Tomate - delish! Then, we ordered their beet salad which was also good. For entrees, I went with their Black Bass (something new that I have never heard of before). My husband had their Veal Scallopini, also excellent. They brought over 2 different desserts for my birthday, one with a candle of course. In summary - Everything about this restaurant was spectacular. And, I want to note that even though some of the other reviews were not as good, don't let that deter you from dining here. I highly recommend checking out Flora the next time you are here. Plus, they have a gorgeous patio for those hot summer days in Newport. Nothing beats a warm day, and ocean views. Cheers~
