This beef and bun is the worst in la Mesa ca. We ordered 3 orders the quarter pounders and fries and it was awesome!!!! Burgers no flavor and the fries was like it baked in the oven. Nothing special about this place except the milkshake that's it! I also saw the worker eating from the chocolate ice cream container! Where the owner is if this place needs to taste the food himself and he will also agree his food is Awful!!!! Redo your entire menus and do a taste for quality check. read more

So I grew up in this general area and I've never been to Beef N Bun. Even when I was a kid in 19 8 (mumblety mumble) it looked kind of divey from the outside. But it's been recommended so many times for milkshakes that I wanted to try it out. We stopped by for milkshakes today. First of all, the drive through line will take a while, but it's worth it since they are carefully making your food. I got the chocolate peanut butter, husband got chocolate, kids got birthday cake and Oreo, respectively. We got the regular sizes, which are HUGE! I'd say at least 16 oz. Great value. They were delicious.Very thick. I could only down half of mine. Will be back to try out a burger. read more

Foods always wrong and over cooked, I always came here because it was super close to my house and it was one of the original burger places. The only burger place in town that makes it truly difficult to order a burger with lettuce, onion and tomato. CONDIMENTS! I go there though the (slow) drive-thru and order 2 junior burgers with cheese and "ALL the condiments" and get home and I get bun, meat, cheese, ketchup and pickles! The menu even says what are the damn condiments. Over priced, convoluted menu and under cooked fries, I would rather go to In-n-out!!! Don't waste you time or money going to this place. read more

Let me start off by saying my family LOVES Beef and Bun! We have been going to this great establishment for over 20 years. The food is always fresh and delish. I tried for the first time the fish sandwich combo and it did not disappoint. It had 2 huge pieces of fish with lettuce, onions, pickles and Mayo on a nice soft bun. It came with fries and a soft drink. YUM!! My hubby ordered the Monster burger combo with fries and a chocolate malt. It was delicious as usual. Thank you Beef and Bun for always being on point with your food. Now onto the customer service I received tonight. I need to preface this review by saying that the employees at the restaurant are "typically" fantastic, funny, great spirited, polite and efficient. In fact I have never had a bad experience until tonight while going through the drive thru. The young man working the drive thru was of Asian descent with black/brown straight hair touching his shoulders. He is approximately 5'6 - 5'9" tall with a thin build. He was NOT wearing a name badge. When I made it up to the menu/ordering board, I was greeted with, "what can I get you?" No cheerful greeting or cordial welcoming me to their restaurant. So I begin my order. (Unfortunately for him I do have a diesel truck and it is loud.) after I was done with my first combo, he said, Huh, WHAT. I repeated myself and again I got the same response. He was able to get my order after third attempt. I then ordered my second combo and he was able to get my order on the first time. He advised me of my total and then ended the conversation. I then decided that I wanted to change one of my combos on my order. I spoke into the speaker saying, "hello". He came back on with saying, "yeah". I asked him if I could please change my Impossible burger combo to the fish sandwich combo. We then again went around and around with the, "what, huh, what, huh's". He finally got my order correct and gave me my new total. I made it up to the window and once again I received no greeting with the exception of telling me what my total was. I handed him my card and then apologize for how loud my truck was, no response. He handed back my payment card, saying nothing at all. I said, " thank you", no response again. I then said, "how are you?", again no response. He then turned and handed me my drinks and food and closed the glass window in my facet. Did I mention that this guy NEVER ONCE made eye contact with me. Needless to say, I was shocked with the behavior of this employee. Shocked enough to take the time to write this review letting the owners of Beef and Bun know how this employee is treating their longtime loyal customers. *My intent is not to have this young man lose his job but to perhaps get him the training he so desperately needs OR maybe he needs to do a non customer facing position instead. read more

If they go any slower I'd be in a coma. Slowest possible customer service. Takes forever to get your food......it's a burger joint. Shouldnt take 30 minutes. There is almost always a drive-through line with a a wait least 15 minutes. There are seats inside and a few seats outside. I have been there many many times. After my mom adopted a puggle from a rescue in El Cajon, we stopped by and ate at the table outside. The new puggle enjoyed her water, a dog snack, and didn't mind that the table was near the drive-through. My mom and I love the big juicy hamburgers. The fries are big fries, not little shoestrings. This classic burger drive-in never disappoints! I usually go for a 1/2lb burger combo with cheese. I opt for the crinkle cut fries extra crispy and a mocha shake. The giant mocha shake is big enough to share a few ways and always leaves me happy. There's definitely a certain nostalgia about this spot. I hope it's around for years to come. read more

We arrived at 8:10 to dine inside. They took my order and said they close the dining area at 8:30. Just before 8:20, they told us we couldn't eat inside and changed our order to go. We ate outside. They fries were old and cold. The fried zucchini had so much batter, we had to remove it because it wasn't cooked all of the way. Our hamburgers were not great. Went to this Beef n Bun tonight around 930pm. They don't close until 10pm and I only wanted 2 small malt shakes. There was only 2 people in front of me in the drive through which took 20 minutes for me to even get to order anything. Seemed like they were taking long on purpose just to wait till closing. When I got to the window to pay the 2 young girls just had the window closed for about 2 minutes just sitting there talking. They finally acknowledged me and took my card to pay and when I got my malts they seemed really small. Being $15 for 2 and that small just didn't seem right. I sent that picture to my friend that used to work there and she said they gave me a kids cup. Wtf, honestly such a rip off. If they didn't have any more small cups then obviously let the customer know, instead of making me pay $15 for 2 kids sized cups. Literally a water cup. I used to work in the food service and never treated any one like this. Lazy ass employees. Didn't ask if I wanted a receipt either. read more

What's happened to our favorite neighborhood burger joint? I went there last night and waited over 30 minutes in the car line. I know...sign of the times. But, once I get home with my food, I immediately noticed that the burger was not what I'm used to getting from them. In a word...it was terrible. I called to place the order and it was no issue, straight to the point and I let them know it was being picked up. When we ate, we were pleased with everything, the serving amounts were satisfactory and they had tasty tartar sauce. Malts were extra yummy! OMG!! Another fabulous meal from Beef & Bun! We have been coming here for years. We love their fish and chips. My hubby loves their shakes. The reason for my review today is because when we arrived, the dine in part was closed. We were told that they didn't have enough help, but the drive through was open. When we got to the window, the employee was so sweet. She said they had two no shows. She was picking up the slack and still had a positive attitude. I actually came here without checking out the yelp reviews. It's been a place that a lot of people I know have either been to of heard of it from others. After going bowling down at the boardwalk with my friend she recommended coming here for lunch. When I went in we weren't really greeted. The person behind the cashier just waited for us to order before she spoke. The cashier wasn't mean , just had a very mono toned voice and didn't seem to have much of a personality. I ordered a bacon cheese burger combo. They ask you if you would rather have a milkshake or soda and I chose soda since I like having milkshakes on their own. I will definitely have to come back for a milkshake through. They are wildly known here and serve you a nice size cup with them. The bacon cheese burger was phenomenal! If you're one of those people that think in n out is amazing, they have nothing on this burger. Honestly one of the best burgers I had and it's such a simple and affordable burger. The only thing I didn't like was the amount of grease it came with and made the bottom bun soggy and fall apart easier. The fries were good too. Not the best fries I've ever had, not a fan of wavy fries, but were still good. If you don't like rowdy crowds this is a great place. Not to talk about anyone's age in a negative way, but a lot and I mean A LOT of elderly people eat here. I'm 28 and if I were to guess the next youngest person was probably around 60. That's not over exaggerating. All in all , great place to eat with good and AFFORDABLE food. They just need to work on the customer service a tad. read more

I'm hoping that this was just an off night.... We've been here several times and had great fresh food. Tonight was none of that. The line was pretty long. It was a 20 minute wait in DT. 3/5 of us had chicken/burgers and all were way over seasoned. My chicken sandwich was extremely soggy. And with the great service we've had in the past I didn't think I would have to check the bag to make sure we had everything. So I got home and saw we were missing my order of fried zucchini. My Nonna used to bring me here as a child, we came for the peanut butter shakes. We used to go to the library and then sneak over to Beef and Bun, Nonna was diabetic, so it was our little secret. I had not been here in a long time, but the shakes are as good as I remember. In high school we used to mix Kalua into the shakes, it made afternoon classes much more tolerable... I brought my son here yesterday, he got a BLT, he is a serious bacon lover, and it had a ton of bacon, and it looked really crispy, he said it was "dewicious!" I have heard that the burgers are good, but honestly I don't think I've ever tried a burger here, the fish and chips are good though. The bathrooms were clean, and the service was good.
