I really liked this place! The menu is super limited to just a few things...dogs, fries, beefs (with or without cheese), gyros, and a chopped salad. I kind of like that small menu idea. Saves my brain from having to work very hard. I had the beef, which is offered as either a full size or mini. The full was pretty much a foot long, give or take an inch. the mini is half of that. They toast the bun so that it's crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The beef was extremely tasty and almost too hot to eat at first. They offer mild or hot peppers without an extra charge for them, and put a very healthy serving of the peppers on the sandwich. Lots of flat screen tv sets in the place, which I found odd, but cool. Also odd was that they didn't have the White Sox game on at least one of them. The decor is very wooden, cowboy, rustic looking, but more than good enough to grab a quick bite. I plan to drag the kids in there very soon. I'm sure they'll like it. Word is the owners of this joint are the owners of the local Skippy's restaurants. It was very clean and welcoming, especially compared to the prior place operating in this location. Not even 5 hours later Management reached out to rectify the situation. Mistakes happen and it was a true testament to this company's leadership the way they handled the situation. The food is awesome! However there is someone who works there that thinks they are the beef nazi. Someone really should tell him that the "Soup Nazi" was a fictitious character on Sinfield. There doesn't need to be a spin off in St. Charles. I called in to place a beef catering order and he put me on hold, I could hear him cussing and dropping the f bomb because he couldn't find any catering sheets. When he got back on the phone he told me, "I have a line out the door so let's make this quick yeah?!!" Really? Am I on camera? this cannot be real! Unfortunately it was. I suppose if you want the best service you need to go when this gentleman is not working and during off peak hours. Not so sad to say that Portillo's got my catering order and they did it with a smile and a pleasant disposition. Beef Shack Management or Leadership...are you out there? Can you hear me? Get your crew together. Maybe have a training on how to handle stress and customer service. I work with the public so I completely understand being overwhelmed. Do not try to use Groupon at the beef shack I tried to redeem my Groupon but because their Wi-Fi was not working The redeem button did not work even though the Groupon was good for another six weeks They charged me full price. Ok. It's not health food...but it is REALLY good! We worked our butts off outdoors today, so we decided to treat ourselves. The sandwiches are HUGE! Our fave is the cheezy beef. My husband prefers it on garlic bread, but I love their regular, perfectly chewy bread. The beef itself is very lean and super flavorful. These are great with their sweet peppers. MINI-UPDATE: The owner, Spiro, reached out to me to apologize for my experience. He was very kind to review the menu description of the hot dog (it's called a "depression dog") and the fact that it's possible we received an extra-small mini-beef on this visit, but the mini-beef should be 4 1/2". He also said that the flooded parking lot was a water main break that has been fixed by the city. For his prompt and courteous response, I'm bouncing the review up one star and reminding everyone (including myself), that the first thing to do when you are disappointed in service or food at a restaurant is talk to the manager - not post a rant on Yelp. Reviews on Yelp should be informative for others, not just cathartic for you. The wife had a taste for Beef Shack tonight. She likes their beef and bread best of all the other local beef options. I ordered a couple hot dogs. Overall, more disappointing than last time. The "everything" hot dog is missing chopped tomatoes and a pickle slice, let alone celery salt. The mini-beef is about the size of a White Castle slider now, and has just about the same amount of beef in it. Fries are still the best in town. But add to the disappointing food the fact that the entire parking lot is a couple inches deep in water and you start to get the idea. This place is not paying attention to details. I've lived in the Geneva area since 2003 and finally stopped by this place while craving some good ol' beef and fries. Actually upon entering I changed my mind and got the cheeseburger, but was not disappointed. The cheeseburger was very decent, good size, loved the bun, nicely cooked, just-enough-grease beef patty, and the house mayonnaise sauce went excellent with the sandwich. I LOVED the fries, kinda reminds me of the fries they serve at Gene and Jude's (look it up on here if you must). Yea they're greasy, but damn they are GOOD. Freshly cut and dropped right into the fryer. I gotta drop it to 3 stars for the service. When I walked in, I stood at the register for a bit, a girl walked by and stood in front of it, and said nothing. Not a word. She was kind of looking at me, kind of not. I was like "Oh, are you taking my order?" and she gave me the look of "well, DUH". So I could've done without that attitude. Maybe she just had an off day, it wouldn't stop me from coming back here. Holy cow. My husband discovered this place after he bought their Groupon and it was outstanding!! They have italian beef, burgers and hot dogs. The fries are made in house and the bag is HUGE. You could certainly split one with 4 people. Order at the counter and wait for your order to be called. They have more tables than I was expecting when we first approached the restaurant. The floor was a bit dirty and tables were sticky but that's kind of what I expect at a place with "Shack" in the name! Many reviews mentioned Trying the cheesy garlic beef and their fries. I decided to take the advice and both were great, but the sandwich has room for improvement. As a combo it was really greasy so I wish they could have tried to keep that to a minimum. The bread could be toasted better to have that golden crisp texture on the outside. The perfectly melted cheese and garlic complimented each other really well. The beef could have used some more spices and the dining area could have been cleaned more. The food is very good I got a Cheezy Beef. But the girl who took my order was a real jerk. Very rude and acted as if she was doing me a favor by taking my order. I said my order clearly and slowly and she kept messing it up and when I corrected her she glared at me. I'm trying to teach my toddler to tie his shoes. I have to constantly remind him to FOCUS on what he's doing & ignore any distractions that break his concentration. While not there yet, I know he'll be double-knotting in no time, because with focus comes mastery of a skill. Beef Shack is an example of what can be accomplished when a business focuses on one thing to the point of mastery. This is simply the best shredded beef sandwich I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. (I'm looking at you Geno's in Philly!) The menu is almost devoid of other options, and those that are there seem like they exist only to placate the malcontent in your group who was outvoted about where to eat. The ordering process is a snap.. then simply slide to the right & wait a few minutes for your freshly prepared bundle of joy. I have been told by a few people that this place is "not authentic Italian Beef". Letting go the obvious question about what sort of vetting process a sandwich must endure to be authenticated.. I simply respond by saying if that's true (and I'm not saying it is), then Beef Shack has innovated and improved upon the "original" formula. Personally... I am not in this area very often, but when I stumbled upon it hungry for some lunch, I was thrilled at this find. I am an Italian Beef connoisseur of sorts. I have had Italian Beef far and wide - in the city, in the suburbs and out of state. I know where to go for a good Italian Beef. A good Italian beef starts with good bread. Add to that some perfectly seasoned, delicately shredded beef and dip it in sauce so the bread is almost falling apart and you have a perfect sandwich. The Beef Shack has a couple other things that make this sandwich a winner. The first thing is that they offer this sandwich on garlic bread. If you choose this option they spread some garlic spread on the bread and toast it up before putting the beef on. They also offer to make it "cheesy" which means putting a bunch of melted Mozzarella cheese on it, which I skipped only because I don't like cheese on my beef. Last but not least, they offer peppers, either hot or sweet to top your sandwich. The peppers weren't ordinary either. Most of your typical beef stands offer you a little solo cup filled with the pepper of your choice. The Beef Shack has a container filled with peppers where you pick up your food and if you choose to have peppers on your sandwich, the person who hands you your food spoons a huge helping of these delicious peppers on your sandwich. They are also not as large as traditional peppers - they are cut much more finely. There isn't a ton of ambiance here - there are a few long benches with stools for larger groups and a couple of two seater tables. Nothing fancy, but darn good beef! read more

But two hotdogs I ordered the skin was so robbery on the last half of one I couldn't even fight through it and it just force the insides of the hotdog to squeeze out. What a great spot. I've driven by it nearly everyday for 10 years but I never stopped in and now I'm kicking myself for those years of missed opportunities. The service is great, the interior is bright and clean, and the food is amazing. Both the beef and the cheesy beef are fantastic and, though I've yet to try, the hamburger looks amazing and my son gives it an enthusiastic thumbs up. The fries are tasty and made fresh but, if I had to have one complaint it would be that they're a bit greasy and if they're placed in the bottom of the bag, the stick together quite a bit. Their beef is out of this world good, juicy, tender delicious! only a couple of suggestions: 1) Bring back the little containers of hot peppers at checkout. We always liked a couple extra. 2) Please cook your fries! We've ordered fries with our beef every time and they are so undercooked that by the time you ear them they a no more than a ball of warm potatoes. The fries are not worthy of the Beef Shack name. 3)please put an entrance/exit sign for each driveway.
