I got two hotdogs fries and a drink special for around 11 dollars. The hotdogs were your run of the mill Chicago style nothing unique just okay. Found this place in mid 2020 and have been back a few times since. I consider it my "go to" hot dog stand in the area. I'll pass up a dozen or so other places that serve dogs, burgers, fries, etc. to go to Happy Dog. It's an authentic Chicago joint that's privately owned (non-chain). Fast and friendly service with good prices, and most importantly, the food tastes GR8 and the portions are appropriate. Highly recommend it to all. During Covid days, it's even more valuable to have so many outside tables to seat & eat. No indoor dining cuz there's no room. Finally, this little shack is painted an adorable "Vienna Beef" yellow, with blue & red trim, which makes me feel like I'm at a carnival or on vacation for 20 minutes. read more

We had lunch during the week at Happy Dog and our meal was rather tasty. There isn't much to this place, blink and you'll miss it, but they make a solid Chicago-style hot dog. The place is small, so I'd recommend only going on a nice day if you plan to eat there (as a majority of their seating is picnic tables out front, but they have a rather extensive menu (for a hot dog place) of all things "Chicago-style" food. Which is to say that they have burgers, beef, polish sausage, hot dogs, fries, etc. They have a number of meal combos, which are very solid deals, and the prices in general are very affordable. Around lunch, it seems, it can get a bit crowded but they work through the line at a decent clip. One thing I wish they did was take a name for the order... if several people order the same(-ish) stuff it ends up being a guessing game as to who's food is whose. For the most part they stay in the order and order was placed but not 100% of the time. We kept it to the usual litmus test of Chicago-style dogs and fries and were pleased. All the food was well made and tasty, with the fries being the real star of the show (simply because they are hand-cut, yum!).
