Diabolical. I cannot describe a worse hot dog. Sure, you could say "oh you just pulled off the toppings to make them look bad". Nay. Look closer. There are no stains on the bun. This hot dog was spat out in sub 30 seconds. There is no regard for quality OR quantity of ingredients. Hidden gem located in a small strip mall, next to a gas station. It's a small place with sleek urban decor. I particularly like the brick wall stamped with items from their menu. Servings were large... so good value. We ordered the harvest salad (HUGE!) and 3 mini burgers with sweet potato fries. Both very good. I would recommend (for lunch) and visit again. read more

I've been wanting to try this place after reading some good reviews on Yelp. Finally came here with my brother on Wednesday late morning. I didn't expect this place to be situated next to a gas station and liquor store for some reason. It's a good thing tho if you want good food rather than munching on gas station snacks. This small cafe is quite cute and has a rustic feel. The staff were nice. The food was pretty dang tasty and so were our drinks. I was quite surprised. The prices were reasonable as well. You can see them prepare your food which is a plus to me. Would I come back here? Probably if it's one of those on-the-go picking up quick meal moments. read more

I really wanted to love this place - reading the great reviews and the cool vibe it has when walking in. Rustic decor, very reasonable prices - soft drinks are about 1/2 the price of fast food places at $.99 and $1.09 for small and large sizes We ordered the bacon burger and one of the classics along with a large order of tater tots ($1.99!). The bacon burger was completely overpowered by a ton of BBQ sauce. In fact, I forgot the grilled jalapeño peppers until the end - just thought the BBQ sauce had some heat to it! It was a good burger, just omit the sauce. As far as the classic burger, again good, not great. Why? The burger was overpowered again by a lot of salty mustard and thick, salty pickles The tater tots as others mentioned were very good want to try the fries on the next trip! You will have to wait too as the burgers are made to order. Note to management: we were served our burgers directly on the platter paper - no plate or clamshell. This seemed strange and may be a code violation. A few small tweaks - like have personnel review the condiment quantity and type put on each type of burger and don't serve in-restaurant food directly in the platter liner would go along way. Service was friendly and attentive. Love the mix it up Coke soda fountain too. Also they have great daily specials and a Happy hour from 4-7 where you can get $3 big can beers. Giving two stars and the benefit of the doubt that we caught them on a bad day or something. Chose this place because of its strong Yelp reviews and good prices. Ordering was an ordeal. The cashier was friendly, but didn't really seem like she knew what she was doing. As a result, our order did not come up correctly. We ordered cheeseburger sliders and fries chicken sliders, and the amount of each we got was incorrect. All of the above is forgivable if the food is good, but unfortunately, it was not. In fact, it was the single worst burger I've ever gotten when eating out. They were exceedingly dry and burnt to a crisp, and the the cheese had been burnt and reduced to nothing more than a charred black film atop a hockey puck of a burger. It was barely edible. The fried chicken slider was just a reheated, from-a-frozen-bag chicken tender on a bun, and it was still better than the burger. If I had to state a redeeming factor, it is cheap to eat there. Ended up coming out to $24 for three people. Locals seem to love the place on Yelp, so maybe we just had an isolated experience. With that said, I will not be going back. read more

Nothing you would expect to fine next to a BP gas station and next to a liquor store but I guess that's what these Urban Counters are all about. I haven't been to any other locations but I have dined here at the one in St. Charles a few times now. You'll find a simple and flavorful menu mostly consisting of burgers, hotdogs, salads and sandwiches. Everything is unique. The hotdogs have all kinds of different toppings, the burgers are my favorite. The glazed burger is kinda like their take on a KBBQ burger. It has a Korean glaze sauce, egg, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and ketchup. Super tasty. Today I tried the Bacon Burger, I was really impressed. The bacon was thick, not too crispy and not too soft. It was just right. If there is going to be bacon on a burger it needs to be perfect IMO. This burger is built a little differently from your common bacon cheeseburger. Cheddar cheese, onion rings, roasted jalapeños (super delicious), grilled bacon and BBQ sauce. The grilled jalapeños were something special. They added a slight spice and smokiness to it. I highly recommend it. If you're into craft beer and want a pint with your burger. No problem. There are usually about 5 beers on tap, all unique craft beers that rotate often. There is always something different on tap when I walk in to this place. Not your typical Goose Island or Sierra Nevada but true micro breweries that produce some high quality IPAs and stouts. A couple quick notes. The tots are tasty. They're really crispy and cooked just right. Also, the meat they use for the burgers are beyond restaurant quality. read more

I had low expectations for a burger joint owned by a gas station, but my snobbery was quickly dashed when I had one of the best turkey burgers I have eaten in a long time! Urban Counter has a large selection of burger options, including vegetarian/turkey alternatives (which are actually hard to find in Geneva), as well as tasty sides, including French fries, sweet potato fries and onion rings. The burgers are cooked very well, and I can honestly say the last two I devoured - yes, I scarfed them down - were delicious. True, the prices are a little high, but the food is well worth the extra price. The interior also surprised me, as the restaurant (which is more of a fast-casual place) is outfitted in industrial eclectic decor. The floor-to-ceiling windows offer nice light if you decide to eat-in, although I also just recently learned they deliver! This place is very affordable! Urban Counter has a big menu and they have huge selections of food. They have burgers, fries, meats, salads, beverages, desserts, and others. Their menu is phenomenal! A while ago they took away they deli turkey and replaced it with a tiny turkey patty. Stuck with the ham, but the deli ham has been replaced with a ham slice. So disappointing. read more

Tried this place out because I've heard it's pretty good and have been driving past it for a few months. We took the family of five there for a dinner that might ordinarily have been been purchased at Portillo's. Our order consisted of burgers, mini burgers, Chicago dogs, a Reuben, a BLT, fries, tater tots, and some shakes. Every single one of us were more than pleased with our meals. Burgers...top notch, quality beef, flame grilled, great buns, big pickles. The mini burgers (3 for 4.99) were a great way to split food between a couple of lighter eaters. My ten year old devoured a 1/2 pound bacon burger and said he loved it (obviously). Reuben...My 15 yr old finished it in about 5 bites and loved it. Said the meat was very good and the bread (rye) was much to his liking. It was a good sized sandwich. Chicago Dogs...Same 15 yr old loved the dogs and raved about how good the pickles were that were served on the dogs as condiments. Fries and Tots...everyone really liked both. BLT...my wife raved about it and noted that she loved that it came with avocado on it. The bacon looked like that really thick cut stuff that's almost like a slab of meat. Shakes...holy hell. Great stuff. My kids loved them. I loved them. They reminded me of the quality of what you get at Oberweis. Everyone wants to go back again soon, especially to try out their breakfast sandwiches, which look sensational. A couple of notes: The prices are fair. Not cheap. Not expensive. I'd say expect to pay about the same as what you'll pay to eat at Portillo's, but you're probably getting a bit better quality and a little less grease. The place was dang near empty at 7 pm. We really liked it if you can't tell. We hope it gets busier because it's a nice addition to the town if it can hang in there and draw customers. Was completely wowed by the quality of ingredients of this $6.49 burger. Hubby had a hot dog and a chili dog and we shared a large order of fresh cut fries. He said the dogs were good flavor and good sized. Right next door (same owners) is Pride liquors which has craft beers on tap where you can fill growlers. First time in today as I had to stop in at Binny's first. Read the Yelp reviews and figured I'd give it a try. Ordered the bacon bbq cheeseburger meal with tater tots. They asked me how I wanted it cooked, and I said "really?, I can get it cooked medium rare?" She said yes, so I ordered it medium rare. Of course it came out very well done. I was was disappointed. The burger was tasty and somewhat juicy regardless. Good bun too. They also forgot to drop my tater tots that arrived at my table perfectly cooked a few minutes later. I noticed this St Charles location opened recently, but I wanted to wait for some reviews before stopping by. The reviews of the Aurora location impressed me and once I saw a positive review posted for this location, I decided to give Urban Counter a try. It is located right next to the BP gas station at Bricher & IL Route 38. I'm sure at some point I will combine feeding me and feeding my car into one trip. I'm a simple basic kind of guy and I like the style of this place. Not fancy or pretentious. Functional sort of industrial-looking furniture. Could see the grill from the counter. I made a take-out order, and it took maybe 5-6 minutes from placing my order to it being ready. I didn't time it. Yes, it took longer than McDonald's/BK/Wendy's, but I got a better product that was made-to-order and wasn't thrown together. Worth the wait. For my first visit, I went with the Bacon Burger and a regular-sized order of fries. The burger was very good. The thick half-pound patty comes with bacon, barbecue sauce, onion rings, cheddar, and roasted jalapenos. As I was eating it, I had forgotten about the jalapenos and was wondering where the spicy kick came from. They were a nice touch. Better than the raw pickled jalapenos you might get on a burger elsewhere. Sauce was good, onion rings were good. The bacon didn't overwhelm the burger. The flavors were balanced. The burger was well-constructed. I was worried such a big burger might fall apart and be a mess to eat, but it all stayed together right down to the last bite. There were two things I liked about the hand-cut fries. They were lightly salted with a larger-grained salt. So many places oversalt their fries so badly that my tongue feels assaulted. Not with these fries. They were a nice change. I also liked that the fries weren't limp and greasy. One Italian beef place I used to go to sells hand-cut fries that are so greasy and go totally limp if you don't eat them in 5 minutes. Urban Counter's fries were still nice and crispy after a 10-minute car ride. I've been wanting a place where I can grab a good burger for lunch that's a step up from the usual fast food places, offers good value, and has the kind of ambiance/convenience I like.
