love the brick wall with stamped items from their menu
    Maria T.

Hidden gem located in a small strip mall, next to a gas station. It's a small place with sleek urban decor. I particularly like the brick wall stamped with items from their menu. Servings were large... so good value. We ordered the harvest salad (HUGE!) and 3 mini burgers with sweet potato fries. Both very good. I would recommend (for lunch) and visit again.

I've been wanting to try this place after reading some good reviews on Yelp. Finally came here with my brother on Wednesday late morning. I didn't expect this place to be situated next to a gas station and liquor store for some reason. It's a good thing tho if you want good food rather than munching on gas station snacks. This small cafe is quite cute and has a rustic feel. The staff were nice. The food was pretty dang tasty and so were our drinks. I was quite surprised. The prices were reasonable as well. You can see them prepare your food which is a plus to me. Would I come back here? Probably if it's one of those on-the-go picking up quick meal moments.

I really wanted to love this place - reading the great reviews and the cool vibe it has when walking in. Rustic decor, very reasonable prices - soft drinks are about 1/2 the price of fast food places at $.99 and $1.09 for small and large sizes We ordered the bacon burger and one of the classics along with a large order of tater tots ($1.99!). The bacon burger was completely overpowered by a ton of BBQ sauce. In fact, I forgot the grilled jalapeño peppers until the end - just thought the BBQ sauce had some heat to it! It was a good burger, just omit the sauce. As far as the classic burger, again good, not great. Why? The burger was overpowered again by a lot of salty mustard and thick, salty pickles The tater tots as others mentioned were very good want to try the fries on the next trip! You will have to wait too as the burgers are made to order. Note to management: we were served our burgers directly on the platter paper - no plate or clamshell. This seemed strange and may be a code violation. A few small tweaks - like have personnel review the condiment quantity and type put on each type of burger and don't serve in-restaurant food directly in the platter liner would go along way. Service was friendly and attentive. Love the mix it up Coke soda fountain too. Also they have great daily specials and a Happy hour from 4-7 where you can get $3 big can beers. Apparently this doesn't apply to their awesome selection of local draft beers though (boo!)

Over cooked and greasy... too bad

Meh, I was hungry and running errands and thought why not. Next time I want an over cooked 1/2 pound greasy burger, I will go somewhere else. Owned by the gas station next door, the kids working there have the personalities of day-old bread. My forgettable burger was $7 ala crate and not anything I would go back for...

All I can say...wow! Alright, I'm joking...there is a lot to say. What a amazing little place. Nothing you would expect to fine next to a BP gas station and next to a liquor store but I guess that's what these Urban Counters are all about. I haven't been to any other locations but I have dined here at the one in St. Charles a few times now. You'll find a simple and flavorful menu mostly consisting of burgers, hotdogs, salads and sandwiches. Everything is unique. The hotdogs have all kinds of different toppings, the burgers are my favorite. The glazed burger is kinda like their take on a KBBQ burger. It has a Korean glaze sauce, egg, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and ketchup. Super tasty. Today I tried the Bacon Burger, I was really impressed. The bacon was thick, not too crispy and not too soft. It was just right. If there is going to be bacon on a burger it needs to be perfect IMO. This burger is built a little differently from your common bacon cheeseburger. Cheddar cheese, onion rings, roasted jalapeños (super delicious), grilled bacon and BBQ sauce. The grilled jalapeños were something special. They added a slight spice and smokiness to it. I highly recommend it. If you're into craft beer and want a pint with your burger. No problem. There are usually about 5 beers on tap, all unique craft beers that rotate often. There is always something different on tap when I walk in to this place. Not your typical Goose Island or Sierra Nevada but true micro breweries that produce some high quality IPAs and stouts. A couple quick notes. The tots are tasty. They're really crispy and cooked just right. Also, the meat they use for the burgers are beyond restaurant quality.

A lot of places have good presentation without the flavor to follow up. This did not happened here. My daughter really enjoyed her salad and I equally enjoyed the tacos. I am a fan of steak fries, so I was excited to have some nice thick fries with my lunch. The tortilla soup was just as good. I have not set place in this spot since it was Nosh. Their preorder system is incredibly smooth, though it does require a bit of planning since you need to order at least a day in advance, and they are closed on Mondays. I scheduled an order on a Friday for a Tuesday morning pickup. I picked up a dozen GF donuts and a half-dozen chocolate chip cookies, and both were fantastic. They offer a ton of different donut flavors, though the ordering system limits you to choosing three varieties per dozen. I went with the banana bread, chocolate with chocolate icing and the brown sugar with chocolate icing, and they did not disappoint. The cookies were just as impressive, hitting that perfect texture without any of the dryness you sometimes find in gluten-free baking. The shop itself is super cute and perfectly set up for a quick visit. All the preordered to-go items are neatly laid out on a cabinet for a seamless pickup. They also changed up their cocktail menu, and we were super excited to see they had some new summer drinks. This is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants in the area. It's perfect for special occasions and date nights. The first two times we came we sat at the bar, but we came right when they opened and were able to be seated at a table. I love the candlesticks they have lit at the tables. There's a a view of the kitchen as well. To drink, I had the Dip in the Backyard Kiddie Pool (very refreshing) and Fresa Fresca (basically a strawberry margarita and it was super refreshing and tasted like strawberry juice). For dessert, we shared the oreo carjillo. It was pretty strong to me, but it definitely tasted like Oreos and milk! To eat as an appetizer, they gave us complimentary bread and butter and we ordered the sundried tomato oil to go along with it (a must). Their bread is so soft and fresh. We also got the bone marrow (forgot to get a photo), and it was some of the best we've had!! For our entrees, we got the two pasta dishes. They called them "small plates" but it was the perfect amount of food for us with our appetizers. I had the spicy carrot rigatoni pasta and it was super fresh. I love that they cooked the pasta al dente.

We loved everything about The Graceful Ordinary from the ambience to the amazing service (thanks Karen!) to the creative cocktails to the delicious food. When we arrived at the table, there was an anniversary card from the staff. Nice touch! We were brought a loaf of the warm housemade bread with whipped butter to begin. Hubby ordered the Having a Moment bourbon cocktail, and I had the Honey Kiss vodka and elderflower cocktail. Love their creative cocktail list. Karen was a fabulous server, so attentive and friendly. The other staff was on top of everything from water being refilled to clearing dirty dishes and even fresh butter brought to the table when it was low. Our needs were met before we even needed to ask. Also, since Karen knew that we were splitting all the courses, she automatically had the food split between two plates. I liked that. We decided to split everything we ordered. We started with the smoked salmon deviled eggs which were creamy delicious, not to mention beautifully presented. Our second starter was the bone marrow with caramelized shallots. This dish was absolutely amazing. My only critique would be to put four pieces of bread on the plate went two people are sharing. Our next course was a salad and we went with the roasted beet salad with blue cheese and sunflower shoots dressed in a warm bacon vinaigrette. Bacon - need I say more? Our main course was the walleye with ricotta gnudi, fava beans, peas and wild mushrooms. So many flavors and textures going on. The fish was perfectly seared and moist. Delectable. We thought about dessert but we were so full from dinner that we passed. Karen wouldn't let us go without a complimentary dessert in honor of our anniversary to enjoy at home, their signature butterscotch pot de crème with sea salt caramel. The Graceful Ordinary certainly made our anniversary special with the anniversary card at the table, and the complementary dessert. If you're in the western Chicago burbs, I highly recommend checking this restaurant out.
