Li Hing Pop Seltzer, Killah Dragon 4oz pours

Discovered this place the other day after knowing they had a location in Puck's Alley but not being aware of their Beretania spot which is a adorned with stunning graffiti along the walls. Having a nice backyard beer garden in an otherwise drive-through neighborhood is a pleasant surprise. This area has some great gems when it comes to food, but I'm happy that there is such an inviting space that I can go and sit with a group of friends outdoors with a cold beer and just catch up. I almost feel like feel like I'm being transported elsewhere. I love that they have a dynamic menu and if something tickles your fancy, you can likely take home the bottle six pack. I did didn't get to try the food, but it looked like a small selection yet varied enough to complement your after work beer. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable and gives you a great breakdown as you figure out what you'd like to try next. I had taste of their dragon fruit beer and li hing seltzer. There is cornhole which is always fun with a group of friends. The biggest downside about this location is probably the parking. There are about four spots in the front, but it did not feel like I could park there. I did park in the Times supermarket and rolled in some grocery shopping, but I was worried how much grace period I may have. If you're lucky street parking is also available.

Definitely a good spot if beer is your thing - they have a wide variety, tasty snacks, and a nice place to chill. Really love the murals; they add to the island vibe and invite you to relax with a cold one on hand. Sad to hear they no longer do the fresh poke, but would recommend the marinaded garlic bites as a drinking snack.

Civil Beat had an event here on Friday evening so I had to check this place out. For those of you who haven't been here yet it's located on the Mauka side of S Beretania Street between Keeaumoku Street and Piikoi, next to Grace's Inn and Time's Supermarket. As you walk towards the venue you'll see metal vats on your left (is that's what they're called?) picnic tables and the counter where all the food & drink is located. I checked in with the lovely ladies at the reception table (Civil Beat staff & reporters) and went to the counter to order a Mililani Red. Some folks brought pupu for us to munch on while we enjoyed our beverages (they have an amazing choice of brews that are sold in various sizes so you can sample before you buy a bigger size) and made friends. Next time I go I will try their poke bowls and some of their other beverage offerings. Love this place and the folks who make it happen.

Great beer selection, seating area and snack and food collection. We got a few set of flights and enjoyed the flavors of their beers and cider on tap!

Located at Pearlridge with ample parking. Clean and spacious. Bench style seating. I think this place is known more for the beer, which we did not have. The burgers with fries were excellent. My burger was thick and I asked for a steak knife to cut it in half. Male brought out a knife, but stayed at our table until I cut my burger. He claimed to need the knife back. That was strange! Serving size was okay. Just okay. Not filling. Ended up going elsewhere to satisfy the hunger. I would not likely return because there are many other restaurants in the mall with food that satisfies my appetite.

BEER LAB was on my B list of breweries to visit while in Honolulu. So glad I got to spend time here. Hidden gem is an understatement. It is a hidden jewel. Quite hidden in fact. If you are driving here, you may want to park and walk, although there is limited parking. I just really liked the vibe here. Only had one beer here, the Omakase, a hazy IPA 6% ABV. Dank and semi sweet for an IPA. Either I was really thirsty, or this was perfection. I was thirsty, but still... I want t9 figure out a way to get this back in Florida... seriously. They also have food here. The .music is an island vibe. There is plenty of room for groups and they have games. Great spot to visit. Awesome spot the drink great beer.

This beerlab is HUGE! Outdoor seating with a game area (Cornhole) and space to run relays. Parking is kinda tricky. I used street parking on the back street and walked through times supermarket parking lot. There is also street parking in front but, check the signs. The food is mainly Poke. Fresh poke and I must say its good. We ordered a poke tray with 4 poke selections and they were all very good. They also have poke bowls. The smoked 'ahi dip paired with the shrimp chips are super good as well. . I only wish they served more substantial food. Something to soak up the alcohol. haha There was no table service when we were there (afternoon) and just one bartender. Later 2 more came on duty and they all were very helpful and friendly. Oh yes, there is beer. Beerlab beer is always great and I especially love trying all the different creations they have.

Went to check out what they had for their ninth anniversary. As usual beer lab didn't disappoint me new brews on tap and an awesome commemorative beer glass shaped like a beer can. Tried the smoked ahi dip with tortilla chips and that was on point very nice smoked flavor and not too overpowering for the ahi. It's a must try!

Super chill brewery with awesome workers. My gf and I stopped by since we saw they had a sour on their menu. When we arrived, they didn't have it listed since they swapped out the keg with another beer that morning. BUT the workers were kind enough to switch it back to the sour since another couple we met there also visited for the sour (everybody's somebody's mule). I do wish it was a little more sour and tart though. They also offer poke, which was pretty fresh and one of the better pokes I had while in Honolulu! Definitely recommend for chill vibes with cool mural paintings.

Had a great time at Beer Lab's Beretania location with my girl gang yesterday. I've been to the other three locations multiple times, but it was my first time here. Cute causal location woth lots of cool colorful murals. As usual for Beer Lab, the service was fast and friendly even though we were a large group (we had about 10-15 ladies walk in within about 30 minutes with another 5 to shortly follow!) Counter services with pours of their beers and a variety of fresh poke. You can also BYOF if you're not a fish fan. I tried the smoked ahi dip and spicy ahi. The spicy ahi was tasty with a nice kick. My friend that had ordered the smoked ahi dip commented that she wanted a little more seasoning. I thought it was similar to other smoked fish dips I had had. You can order the poke with or without rice, and there are a variety of additional toppings to choice from. Pinic table seating that's covered or has umbrellas. Definitely wouldn't recommend it if it was raining hard as there's limited space under a roof. Has 2 corn hole games on the side. Best thing?!? Not 1, not 2, but FIVE bathrooms! Woot! Even though there were quite a few ladies there, I never waited in line! And there's 2 common sinks for washing hands. Fun times! Can't wait to go back. I took lots of pics of our group yesterday. Need to go back for food pics!

Limited hours still Open with just a tent so it does get really hot if you go when the sun is out. Not sure what its like if it ever rains. Several picnic style tables for customers to sit at Couple of stalls right in front. Difficult to back out of though when beretania gets busy. Since ifs all open and no ac, its def less crowded in the daytime than the other locations. Didnt try the poke but their ahi spread was really good. Mixed in house too. Def a chill place to stop in at. Beertenders of course are always hospitable and friendly

Beer Lab Hawaii has become a favorite brewery for me. Their beer is great quality no matter the style, and they love to experiment. This is for their new fourth location on Beretania. The entrance is nearby Wong's Drapery and Grace's Inn on the mauka side of the street; parking is right in the lot in front or there are bus stops nearby. This is going to be a production brewery, which you can see with large brewing tanks right at the entrance. It's all outdoors but has already done a great job in keeping you comfortable. The tables are the picnic table variety, large for anything from an individual to a large group. All tables are under an awning, so even on hot sunny afternoons, you're in the shade. Water cooler is right inside and free to keep you hydrated. Restrooms are shared to the right, with stalls for urinals and toilets and shared sinks inside the door; they're really well thought out for even busy nights to keep people waiting less. To the left is the food counter, which is currently making all in-house fresh ahi poke! Get it in containers of various sizes or poke bowls over rice - prices range from $7-$16 depending on what you get. They also have snacks. The main attraction is the beer counter which has 16 draft lines, plus a refrigerator with canned beer ready to-go. They will also fill 32oz crowlers on demand, so you can take your favorite limited drafts home or to the beach. Prices are on par with their other locations - essentially you'll pay more for beers with more expensive ingredients or higher alcohol. Order flight size if you want to try a little of many different beers. All the staff here is as friendly and welcoming as their other locations as well, with many having moved over. If you're a beer fan, local or visiting, this is already a standout location beer garden. It's worth the visit!

Really cute but tiny Beer Lab. Parked around the side by the other businesses. Really nice outside area, not any inside seating. They had a poke bar that smelled great and everyone was eating, id like to go back to try! I really enjoyed all the nice murals and that they're dog friendly. They had a decent selection of beer as well. It is easy to miss so just keep an eye out!

The space has a more upscale feel, with a really nice vibe inside and plenty of tables. They have a great selection beyond their own beer, including cocktails, wine, non-alcoholic drinks, and guest taps. I especially loved that they offered smaller beer pours, which let me try several different beers without committing to a full pour of each. I was there for the beer, and I definitely wasn't disappointed! I was also really impressed by the food menu. They had lunch specials that sounded fantastic, and they even offer a brunch menu with special brunch cocktails. I wasn't hungry enough to try the food this time, but it definitely gives me a reason to come back. Great beer, a beautiful space, and lots of options for everyone. Definitely recommend adding Hana Koa to your Oahu brewery list!

Unfortunately, something has changed recently and you can see it throughout recent reviews here, which tells me this is a taught practice by management and not just one shady server. Mainly, being up charged or sold "extras" without disclosing they're actually add ons. Our table of 4 had 3 different sandwiches, 2 burgers and a chicken sandwich. While ordering the server offered each of us, "would you like fries, onion rings, or salad with that?" There was no disclosure of it being additional, and she never used the words add ons or extras. When the bill was received, all 3 that received the sandwiches and "sides" were shocked to see upcharges (example $5.00 extra for 1/4 cup of greens and 2 slices of cucumber) when we were being offered these with our orders. When I asked the server about the charge, I asked why it wasn't disclosed it was extra, and that we only answered her question of which side we wanted because she offered as if it was included, her responses were baffling. The first was "There's nowhere on island that serves fries with a sandwich", to which I said, "but you didn't say it was extra, you offered them as if they were included", she said "it's written on the menu". To note: fries, onion rings, and side salads are listed on the menu, in their own section, separate from the sandwich sections. So while it is written, they know exactly what they're doing when they offer you sides or sauces, and you can see other recent reviews here making the same complaint. This left an extra bad taste for our table as we had come in to help support them after the recent tropical storm left them without power. We were excited to participate in a local event they were hosting and help support them after losing stock and days being closed from the storm, just to have this shady process of being upsold things we didn't order (on a $350+ bill that also included shirts from their merch store). Scuzzy way of thanking your community for coming in and patronizing your restaurant. Really disappointed after years of Hana Koa being my favorite place.

Everyone was very nice there and the space was a good sports bar to watch the World Cup at. We sat at the bar so we could see the TVs, but there were plenty around the restaurant. The food was mixed reviews. The shrimp fried rice was really good, a bit on the oily side (personally don't mind that) and lacked salt, but that was an easy fix. The special was this pork belly (I think) and honestly it didn't wow me. It was a bit bland and also the amount was so small. The Macaroni salad was good and rice was good. The slaw, to me, was too crunchy and could have marinated longer to soften up. Again, this dish lacked salt. The Pina Coladas, were very tasty and refreshing, but were too sweet so it was hard to get a second one and come close to finishing. I had my partner help me drink it because it was too much. I'd still go again and try other things on the menu and maybe ask for the colada to not be too sweet

I was there with a couple of friends as Della Au Belatti supporters. There was a great spread of food (sliders, Mac & cheese, Caesar salad, and pizza and a huge selection of beers and non-alcoholic beverages. Great turnout, including KITV who was covering the election outcomes. The waitstaff were great and they offered suggestions of what beers to drink, depending on your taste. Got to meet the owner, Michael, who was on available throughout the event. Nice guy and very customer-oriented. The fact that this place is only a block from where I live is no excuse to go back, now that I've had a taste of what they have to offer. Oh yeah, Michael mentioned having seasonal beers when I asked if they could make a Snakebite (Guinness & Cider). Oh boy!!

The happy hour food menu has a nice selection, it's about $3 off the main menu pricing. The tots were $17 off the happy hour menu and a large order, definitely for sharing. The pork on it was a little dry but the corn, beans pico and sour cream made up for this, tots were fluffy and crispy. We liked this one overall. The ceviche was $26 (not on the happy hour menu), it was a portion for 1-2 people, the fish itself tasted fresh but I wasnt a huge fan of the ceviche flavor, I wish it was more lime/acid forward and would have liked an herbal element like cilantro to spice it up. The wonton chips were not great, they weren't crispy and tasted almost mealy, they also lacked salt, I imagine if they were freshly fried it would have been tastier. Service was very fast and polite. The vibes and seating options were great too. Would return, the empanadas looked tasty.

As for the food, it is a hit & miss. Some of our party liked their salad w/fried Char Siu chicken, onion rings and tots were also good appetizer food to munch on. Others had the Kalua Pig burger which was real salty. I had their Loco Moco with their dark gravy, which also was a bit too salty. I also chose to have the burger cooked medium well, which was a bit too tough to chew. I should have chosen medium. (An update to my previous post - I upgraded this review to 4 stars, from previous 3. As we left the place, the nice waitress stopped my friend who had the Kalua burger & gave her a new Kalua as the chef threw out the previous batch & made a new one. She loved it. Now who does that in today's world, listened to the customer & make a new batch & even sought out the person to make it right. This is a place to definitely come back to. Awesome Beer Lab!!!) The drinks were their pluses. And their service was excellent. Our waitress was very nice & very attentive. I did like their ordering system thru Toast where you scan a barcode & order & pay before the food gets to you. You can pay individually or as a group. Keep in mind the group tip is set at 20%, but the waitress deserved it.

Finally, got seated and a server eventually came by. The pepperoni rolls are delicious as always. We tried the paniolo burger (excellent) and the It's a Gouda burger (good, but I couldn't really taste the aioli or the Gouda). The mac salad on the side is fairly good although I prefer Zippy's because it's more flavorful. Kona's is a bit on the bland side. I got an itty bitty beer to go with my drink and didn't realize that the 5 ounce pour was basically the size of one of their little taster flight beers, but it's $4.25, where the 10 ounce is $6.25. Kind of wish my server had pointed out the 10 ounce is a better value, but they were extremely casual and seemed pretty distracted the whole time, so I don't think they thought to mention it. The 15% off for kama'aina makes the food a better deal. A nice place for a bite to eat and to try some interesting beers and seltzers on tap.

A Sad Decline of What Used to Be a Hawaii Kai Institution…read more It honestly saddens me to write this review because I have been coming to Kona Brewing Company in Hawaii Kai regularly for years. Kona used to be a place where the community gathered--locals would stop in for a drink, grab some food, catch up with friends, and enjoy the atmosphere. It was a thriving neighborhood restaurant and bar that felt like a true part of the Hawaii Kai community. Unfortunately, over the past couple of years, I have watched a noticeable decline in service, food, atmosphere, and management. On my recent visit, I was struck by how empty the bar was. This used to be a place that was bustling with locals and regular customers. Many of the people I used to see there regularly have simply gone elsewhere. The menu is a fraction of what it used to be, with far fewer choices and portions that seem considerably smaller. For an establishment of this size and reputation, the current menu is disappointing and doesn't offer the variety or value I remember. The service has also suffered. Some longtime bartenders seem less interested in customer satisfaction than they once were. I can't say whether that is a reflection of management, staffing issues, or declining morale, but there certainly seems to be a disconnect between the people working there and the customers they're supposed to be serving. When employees don't feel supported or appreciated by management, unfortunately, the customers often feel the effects. And then there's the ambience. Kona used to have an energy--a feeling that you were walking into a neighborhood gathering place. That feeling has largely disappeared. I don't write this review because I want to see Kona fail. Quite the opposite. I remember when Kona Brewing Company was a thriving part of our community, and I would love nothing more than to see it return to that level of service, quality, and community spirit. There are still good people there, and I believe the establishment has tremendous potential. But something needs to change. Management needs to listen to the longtime customers and the employees, take a hard look at what has changed, and find a way to bring back the Kona that Hawaii Kai used to love. It's genuinely sad to watch the decline of what was once such a fine establishment and an important gathering place for our community
