First time visit, will definitely return! Service was quick, beer list was amazing for both draft and bottles/cans. Ordered 2 salads with chicken, and two different Mac skillets. Mac was delicious!! I'm not one to order Mac and cheese at a restaurant, but I'm glad I did. Mine was brisket, and was to die for! Brisket tasted like it just came out of the smoker. The beer market is a very nice experience. It sits directly in college town and has a cute outside space with a little fire. The inside is mid sized and has both large and small tables. The drink menu is large and they also have flights. There's a ton to choose from which can be a little overwhelming but I guess really nice if you just aren't sure which direction you want to go in. The food is good. I see many people ordering the pretzel which says can feed 4 but I wouldn't be surprised if it fed more. We had the brisket grilled cheese which my friend says was great. I ordered the bourbon bites and those were absolutely delicious. My friend ordered the Nashville chicken sliders. None of us had any complaints at all. Everything was just a very nice bite. Damn, there's a lot of beer here. I can't really imagine anywhere else near U of R has anything close to the sheer variety of brews they have on tap and in bottles. Plenty of local brews, and I'm a sucker for Empire's White Aphro, so I stuck to that for the most part. But you can get anything you'd ever want, including plenty of porters and stouts, which are my usual beer style of choice. Unfortunately, beyond the thousands of gallons of beer they seem to have in stock, they didn't seem prepared for me to arrive. Or anyone else, really, on a Saturday night. After we sat down, nobody talked to us for at least 10 minutes. I don't blame our eventual server, because seemed like he was the only one working the entire room, which is not easy. He just needed some more people on staff. We were there for a half hour before we finally got beers, and it took multiple requests to get a couple glasses of water because he was so busy. When we finally ordered, I got the shortrib sandwich, and the wife got a salad of some kind (when she clearly should've gotten the GIGANTIC pretzel because it looked amazing when it arrived on the next table). Sadly, our waiter came back a few minutes later and let me know that they were out of the shortrib sandwich. And the potato salad that I chose as my side. And the pulled pork sandwich, in case I wanted that instead. I actually don't mind when a place runs out of stuff. I like to think it indicates freshness, and that things are made daily...but if you're out of all these staples on your menu at 7 pm on a Saturday, that's poor planning. The meatball sammy I ended up with was solid, and the place seems like a good time overall. They had some live music going, and with the beer selection, it'd be hard to have a bad time. This is a great bar if you want beer, just okay if you want food. I went with family the other night and got the spicy meatballs with crostini and we all split the giant pretzel, too. The pretzel is huge and great for sharing. The dipping sauces are cheese and dijon mustard, nothing special, but good. The spicy meatballs were very tasty and enough to fill me up. The standout is obviously the beer menu, which is something like 10 pages long. It was honestly a bit overwhelming, but if you know what types of beer you like you can probably just choose any one of them and find something good. I liked the atmosphere. It's much bigger inside than it looks from the outside, with lots of tables and bar seating. There are plenty of TVs around the perimeter for watching whatever game you want. I'd recommend this place as a nice bar to hang out at with a big group of friends, but if you're really hungry the smaller food menu might not be quite what you're looking for. read more

Rochester is already a great destination for craft beer, and The Beer Market definitely offers a lot of variety for both draft and bottled options. The bartenders are quite helpful in guiding you to the right beverage, and you can either choose a flight or a pint when you decide on your drink of choice. Oktoberfest for me please :) We shared a small treat before we hit the road again, and the donuts with bacon were delicious. We saw a few of the other food options brought out around us, and if I had come with a bigger appetite I definitely would have had that humongous pretzel, looked delicious. Fantastic location with a nice ambience for a summer evening. They have several fire pits spread out on the patio to keep you warm after the sun goes down. The staff were friendly, efficient and eager to please offering sampling of beers. With so many beers available...it is very difficult to choose! The food is where my 3 star rating comes forth. The menu offers a few apps, pizzas and some sandwiches and salads. However, the food is just ehhh. Small portions, high prices, just ordinary dishes. You can expect higher prices across the board because of the extensive beer menu. I had a rohrbach lager and the Aloha pizza with pulled pork onions and a bourbon bbq sauce. It was delicious and I was able to take a few slices home too. The atmosphere is very open and comfortable with open views of mt hope out of the glass doors. Outside seating is also available and will probably sit outside next time if the weather permits. They have a pretty large drink menu so happy hours can be fun. The food is the typical American bar scene, although their famous giant pretzel is good and the best option to pair with drinks. It does get pretty loud sometimes, especially on nights with karaoke. When it gets busy though the staff can be inefficient. Most recently they charged us double shots and a brand of tequila we didn't request and it was impossible to flag down a waiter to get the changes made. read more

This is a new hot spot in College Town and I can see why. They have about 50 +/- beers on tap and several tall coolers filled with bottles and cans of another extensive variety. For me, it was a tad too overwhelming with the beer selection and underwhelming with the food selection. The menu consisted of a few apps and sandwiches on one page. The next page was all pizza, then it was page after page of beer choices. I feel like my eyes were going blurry trying to look at all of the choices. Anyhow, I do like the nice long wooden tables, very rustic. Too bad a lot of 2 and 3 tops sat at them. My group of 10 had to squeeze together and share 2 square tables. Also there have a popular patio that folks flock to. Complete with tables, chairs, umbrellas and table service. I would like to start off by saying Aaron, our server was AWESOME! Extremely attentive and seemed to genuinely like to talk about food and beer. I highly recommend you request him. We shared the pretzel. I wish the cheese sauce was better. It was kinda bland. But the size of the pretzel is definitely a conversation starter. We ordered the farmers pizza and added chicken. It was good, but nothing to rave about. So we finally went back to the beer market to try the food. It was a very busy day there because there were activities going on outside, the streets were closed and people had tents up selling their products. I'm not sure what the event was called but it wasn't something that just happened overnight, so if you know that you're probably going to be busy maybe you should have more than a few people serving and bartending. We ordered the shroom pizza and it took around 40 minutes. Now, I'm not impatient person, but that's the only thing we ordered and we never even received an apology for the wait time. The pizza was mostly crust and the shrooms looked like the tiniest things I've ever seen. They looked like they were minced and they weren't even on every slice of pizza. It was very sloppy and disappointing. In addition I ordered a Hoegaarden. It was one of the four beers we ordered at the same time. 2 people got their beers right away and two of us didn't get anything. 10 minutes went by and the other guy asked about his beer and he got and I asked about mine and she said "oh we're out of Hoegaarden" she had obviously forgotten because it shouldn't have taken 10 minutes to tell me they were out of that beer. Then I picked a different beer and it took another 5 minutes to get it. Never got an apology, like it was no big deal. I was not happy. I had high hopes for this place, because well I love beer and they have a remarkable selection. Parking was interesting, if your not familiar with this location you could be driving around looking for a street spot to open up....but there's a large free parking lot behind the Beer Market with easy access to all the stores in college town. They have a decent patio out front with prime people watching opportunities, the patio is open to the rest of the bar (very nice cross breeze throughout) They have two large tables that are perfect for bigger groups, then lot's of normal four seater tables scattered about. The bar itself is in the back, not that this place is that big.... menu can be overwhelming. Good selection on draft and an even wider variety in bottles. They do let you sample different drafts, I went with the Otter Creek Over Easy, light, crisp summer blend of happiness. Price was $5, very reasonable. There wasn't that many food options here, I expected your normal bar food but it's limited here. We did go with the giant pretzel and some chicken pizza.. pretzel was good with the cheese sauce and mustard sauce ( but it wasn't anything spectacular) The pizza was again just average...but I think the food is just a sidekick to the beer selection. I liked the whole rustic look throughout the bar, with all the signage on the walls. The bathrooms are right up front, very modern and clean. So far, so good if you're sticking to the bar. My first fews visit focused solely around the beer. They have an extensive selection with 50 taps and countless other options in bottles. I like that they offer mixed beer drinks - one of which was the Snake Bite, which is 1/2 Angry Orchard Cider and 1/2 lager. It was a refreshing, lighter drink, which I enjoyed for afternoon sipping on a nice day. We sat at the bar, which had quite the view of the freshly arranged bottled beers and the endless taps. I'm glad to see College Town come together with some cool new spots opening up. Once the warm weather is here to stay, it'll be great to enjoy the open patio, bustling with people, as I try to make my way through their beer list. I was eyeing their monstrous pretzel as a few passed by my line of sight for other customers. It's absolutely huge - enough for at least 4 to share - and was tempting, but unfortunately I'll have to save it for a future visit because we had to cancel our order as it took too long and we had to leave. I used to come for the convenience, since their food was still okay even though service was super slow, but now the food and service quality is just not worth the convenience. I have come before when it was full and it would take an hour to get a pizza but at least it smelled fresh, the dough was fluffy, but today it came out very disappointing, burnt, and tasteless.The deviled eggs also were very inconsistent. This place is a solid new addition to college town. It's taken me months to finally make it to the beer market but I'm glad I finally made it in. The atmosphere is great they have outdoor seating and it looks nice inside. I could imagine it getting pretty loud. Most of the menu here is beer! I finally tried the pretzel I've been hearing about. I'm not the biggest fan of pretzels but I liked this one the cheese and mustard were a great choice. I needed a quick bite to eat and so I ordered the bratwurst sausage. The plate came with a side salad and a side option- I highly recommend the potato salad. It has bacon and blue cheese in it. This plate really exceeded my expectations. I went to this place today for a client lunch. We sat at the bar and the bartender needs to find a different profession , not friendly at all and she did not make eye contact or smile once. We order flights of beer and were shocked to be charged $3.50-4.50 per sample on our bill, worse than this was the beer was not to our liking either. I think the new ownership needs to do a lot better job with the quality of the staff there and consider more fair pricing. We will not be going back to this place again, too many other establishments that offer more value and make you feel welcome and comfortable. read more

It has a good mix of local NY craft beers, craft beers from other states, a couple great imports. Ask the bartender if you aren't sure what you want. My bartender was quite knowledgeable and gave some good recommendations. The food though is quite lackluster and very average. I ordered the Mac n cheese bites which were good so long as you ate them before they sank to room temperature. For my main course, I ordered the the European pizza which was just lopsided in flavors. I liked the crust (which is actually rare for me to like pizza crust on its own) but the toppings weren't well assembled. I would have liked more pear and spinach, remove the mozzarella entirely, and do more evenly spread the blue cheese. In short, come here for beer and don't have any expectations for the food and you will enjoy the Beer Market. read more

Came here with a friend to share some pizza. We ordered a pizza thinking it was everything we wanted without meat. It came with sausage. Oh boy! How can I remember that chorizo is sausage, ouch! I've had this problem in Florida before and here I had the same problem because my brain hasn't registered that chorizo is meat. After this I'd definitely remember. The funny thing is that the waitress also didn't know chorizo means sausage/meat. She and I looked through the ingredient of the pizza we ordered and didn't know. Pretty solid vibe here. I can only speak to the college sports gameday vibe but I liked it a lot. The boyfriend and his fam and I went here to watch a specific college football game two weekends in a row. The first weekend the server was AMAZING. Helped us pick beers, was super awesome overall, and was timely with everything. We tried a cider from Embark, a beer from Three Heads, and a Hefenweizen. The beer menu is STAGGERING. over 20 pages. But the best part for me? The Barbarian pretzel. It is ENORMOUS and easily fed four of us. Seriously delicious. If you look at the price and get dissuaded: don't. It is HUGE. I love their beer cheese but the beer mustard is also great. Our second trip the food was just as good, the beer was (we went with some of their draughts of Lock 32 and Rohrbach) but the server was only meh. She seemed less interested in getting us what we wanted with any level of efficiency and it took two or three times to get water. Arrived at this restaurant during the afternoon on a Sunday! Ordered an appetizer, and two sandwiches, which you think wouldn't take long. Our waiter was really awkward and then turns out he turned into the bartender all of a sudden. Didn't hear from him until the only other waiter came over and didn't even realize we put an order in. After waiting for over an hour, our appetizer came out, which was pretty good & then our food. My wrap I ordered was wrong & the fries were undercooked. They only had two cooks with two ovens. Subtle, brittle finish in taste. Marshmallow tasting but not sweet, delish overall--again Strong. If you're a fan of IPA's --Bad ass was pretty good as well Tried the mozzarella tomato basil pizza. But it came with no basil! (What the!) Would've been much better with it. Next time I'd definitely choose a different pizza. Also got the meatball appetizer--sauce, ricotta cheese and toasted baguette slices. Bread was hard as a rock! Over toasted for sure. The meatballs were tasty. I like the atmosphere -- very chill. During early dinner hours, a little older folk-- but once nighttime festivity hours kicked in college kids filed in. I foresee it being a nice summertime stop--looks like the glass doors/windows fully open for a free flowing floor plan to the outside patio area. They just need to make the landscape next door nicer! I really enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant and the fact that in nice weather, they open up the windows, which creates a barn door like effect so the customers sitting outside can still listen to the live music. The food was absolutely delicious (I got the squealer, meat was so tender oh my god), and the drink menu was so long I don't know a single person that couldn't find something they'd enjoy. I definitely recommend bringing multiple friends because there are multitudes of yummy apps that are large enough to share. I'm gonna give this one star because of the beer selection, and my chicken sandwich, when it came out correctly. The server was awful. And yes, I have worked in the service industry. And I'll start off by saying that it wasn't busy. We were at our table for 20 minutes before she even came over. No apology at all. Then when she took her order, yes there were two modifications to two of our orders, she came back to double check with one of us at the table about the pizza that was ordered. When my friend told her what pizza she wanted the server looked at her and said, no, you didn't say that. You said something else! My friend said, no, I ordered the one I ordered. And the server looked at her and said no, no, you did not. We ordered the pretzel which didn't come out until after our meals. My friends pizza was burnt, my sandwich was wrong, my fries were cold when they came out, and they forgot my friends, french fries and ranch dressing. I had to walk up to her at the window to ask her for my friends, french fries, and my ranch. She never came back once to check on us and had an attitude the entire time. At no point where we rude. We just wanted to leave and when we did, you could hear her talking about us when we left. It was so incredibly unprofessional. Never again. read more

A few minutes later they said the hot dogs were frozen--this was Friday lunch time so...? I ordered a BLT and it was ok, tomatoes were cut so core pieces/stems were on the sandwich--yuck. Very skimpy on bacon for a $12 sandwich. I ordered the Mexican corn pasta salad and it was completely flavorless. It was dry, there was almost no corn and no spice whatsoever. I was expecting a hint of lime, cayenne and elote but it was flavorless and colorless. Not appealing. My husband's chicken wrap was ok but nothing great. The waiter was fantastic, he did discount our check because of the problem with the order, without being asked. Service was attentive, but we never did get water or silverware. I've been trained by my Pizza Hut sponsored childhood to love extremely soft and doughy pizza. Long story short, I want my cheese and toppings to be served on bread. I suppose it isn't extremely flattering to hear "I love your restaurant because it reminds me of a fast food chain" but The Beer Market has tapped into my nostalgia for the simpler pizza-eating days of yore. Aside from the food, and true to its name, there is an expansive selection of beers. I kind of like that the menu presents itself basically in Microsoft Excel format. I just wish I could download a soft copy so I could sort by alcohol content (highest to lowest, obviously). The outdoor fireplace added to the ambiance but the raging flames came pretty close to setting all of my coworkers' hair on fire. It's probably really nice in the cold winter though. read more

The only complaint is the very poor (yes I'm biased) representation from Texas...they had Shiner's Schwarzbier on tap...first of no one in Texas that knows beer considers them a micro/craft brew and second, there are MANY better brews in Texas than Shiner...even a St. Arnold would be better although they're second to the bottom above Shiner. My co-workers and I stopped into this place after a long two weeks of training. We all wanted to celebrate our success and this was the place to do it! It wasn't too busy so that was helpful. We all ordered a drink at the bar then found a couple of large tables to occupy. They have an endless amount of beer and ciders to chose from. I got a blueberry cider and it was heavenly. I love ciders but this way probably a top 5. The bar tenders make sure everyone has their menu, which is huge. They also answer any questions you may have and are great at recommendations. When at the table I ordered the Tachos. I assumed they'd be large from past tachos experience but they weren't. They were nice and personal sized, warm and crispy. I really liked them. You can order a protein for them, but I chose not to. The environment was really nice too. There were bar games, but they weren't all over the place to make it noisey and crowded. It's great to see such a unique establishment in College Town, near the University of Rochester. I've been there twice and it was crowded both times, which tells me that a lot of people really like The Beer Market. I've never been a big lover of exotic import or craft beers, but if you do then this is the place for you. The atmosphere and service is first rate but If you enjoy good food I would look elsewhere. The menu is limited to 1 double sided page of appetizers, sandwiches, pizza and salads. The remaining 24 pages are dedicated to beer. The pizza is ok but nothing to write home about. The giant Bavarian style pretzel appetizer was delicious but was pricy at $13. The meatball appetizer was terrific too. My friend tried the bratwurst and didn't think much of it. Another person gave me bad feedback on the salad. It's a really nice establishment with great people and an incredible beer selection.
