First of all I am not a vegan nor a vegetarian, but I definitely love the vibe and the food here. The savory Green Sun's Zenith is absolutely delicious: the crepe is warm, soft but keeps the chewy texture; the sautéed vegetables are fresh and perfectly flavored by the garlic and the tzatziki spread; the kale chip crumbles and the pistachios add the crunchy and nutty taste. And there are lots of avocado on top! Yum! I was already full after finishing my crepe, but I still wanted to try their seasoned scrambled tofu and it didn't disappoint me. It was well prepared and more than just tofu - it has sautéed red peppers, mushroom and onions! I have tried tofu in a few famous vegetarian-friendly restaurants and cafes in Milwaukee before. Beerline has been on my "to try" list since i moved back to the area, but the pandemic forced me to wait. Finally, BF and i visited for a Sunday breakfast recently. Parking is sparse in the area, so plan accordingly. The atmosphere here is surprisingly cool and comfortable, given it's semi-subterranean location. Greenery surrounds you. Tables are communal and the chairs are fine, but don't encourage lingering. You order at the counter and then food is brought to your table. The menu is quite broad with both vegan and vegetarian and ovotarian options. I had the house coffee, which is huge and a cromelette. It was very good and very big. I ordered a side of tasty rosemary potatoes, but I sure didn't need them. BF had one of the crepes and quite liked it. There are brunch cocktails on offer. Overall this is a great option for vegetarians and I'm anxious to try more of the menu. This is no rabbit food. Fair warning though - 2 coffess, 2 entrees and 2 orders of potatoes were about $32, so it's not cheap greens here. read more

I love, love, LOVE Beerline Cafe. It's a super casual, order-at-the-counter set-up. They serve up the sort of vegetarian food that will leave meat lovers missing nothing. Billed as fast-casual, they're slinging some of the best fast-casual I've had the pleasure of eating. Came most recently for a quick dinner. They offer a few bottled, local brews. I was happy to see they had Lakefront Brewery's Fuel Cafe coffee stout (always a solid choice). For an appetizer, we ordered their garlic avocado hummus. It comes served with a hearty pile of tortilla chips and is a delicious spin on traditional hummus. Hummus is one of my favorite things and avocados happen to also be one of my favorite things as well. It was a match made in heaven for me. For my dinner, I got their Fromage sandwich, which is a delicious blend of smoky gouda, cheddar, house blended cheese sauce, and sliced tomatoes all served on grilled garlic bread. My cheese loving friends! Delectable! I noticed later that you can have avocado added, which I'm convinced would only serve to increase the loveliness and am determined to do so next time. The service was fast and above all friendly. The dining room is neat as a pin (as my grandmama would say) and adorable. Went out for Sunday brunch with my niece before a show and was told there would be a 35-40 minute wait for food, which was fine. What wasn't fine, was seeing people that came in after us get served, eat and leave before we got our meal. What is worse is when we asked (knowing our order fell through the cracks) the server said "you're good" and walked away without providing any attempt to remedy the situation or apology. My boyfriend and I have literally been getting 3 entrees a day from here and have not been disappointed once. I hope we get through the whole menu before we leave. Juices and smoothies are also incredible. And the coffee is incredible too. So good in fact that I asked to buy some beans. We finally ordered from them recently again and I was delighted that the food was just as good as I remembered and even traveled well. Their menu is almost overwhelming with delicious and unique options. There's a lot of flexibility with orders if you want to make a vegetarian item vegan or fit another dietary restriction. This last order, I had the barley burger and a side of split pea soup. Though I thought I would add on the soup just because I was that hungry and it was a cold day, it ended up being incredibly flavorful and almost stole the show. But the burger held it's one and it was an overall delightful meal. I even had to steal some of my husband's nachos because it was impossible not to. Beerline Cafe is so cute, healthy, reasonably priced, and has such a large menu...I've never been disappointed, I don't know why I don't go more often! Today for lunch, my friend and I had to actually sit down (outside on their adorable patio) with the menu for 10 minutes to decide what we wanted, because everything looks so good! (I used to order the kimchi crepe and eggplant crepe lasagna all the time but those are sadly no longer on the menu.) I've had the Ethiopian Lentil Wrap before which is so flavorful and filling, but I opted for something new this time: Korean BBQ Jackfruit Tacos. They were beautifully presented, super saucy & savory, the pineapple and ginger-lime guacamole really put it over the top for me. Very good! I didn't eat them quick enough so the corn tortilla got a little soggy and ripped, but it was still good to every last bite. Perfect amount of food for lunch. My friend ordered the Chikc'n Salad Lettuce Boats (we traded 1 of each) and it's is exactly what you want if you're in the mood for "chicken salad." I typically go for things with a little more kick in them, but it was refreshing and delightful. We both also got the Strawberry Turmeric Lemonade. We visited in August, and we liked it so much, we came back again this winter. It was just as good. They don't normally take reservations, but we called (at the height of brunch hour) and they saved a table for our group of 6 - since we were in the car with littles. Finally after like 10 calls they answer and now my question how long from order to have it ready to pickup. Original estimate on the first call was 10 to 15. Now I'm told 25 to 30. I order get to the place 3 es later, there are a few people in front me then I la pay but because of my uniform I put my order to front (which they never even started after phone call). Ate here a couple of years ago and I remember the breakfast food was amazing! Went back recently and tried their avocado chocolate smoothie, and it was so good. It had a kick, with the cayenne spice! I am not sure how independent about the "compostable straws" labeling. Following up with their staff, there was no further information on how fast the straws actually decomposed. From an environmental awareness standpoint I would be mindful and skeptical about labels like these that can be misconstrued as really benefitting the environment when it does not. The smoothie was really good, I would recommend trying it and would come back to this place again, given that I give them fair warning about not providing a straw because I bring my own reusable one. Firstly, you'd be remiss to miss the veritable walls of hanging beautiful live plants. They're environmentally minded (napkins are compostable!), and won't dent your wallet. And then there's the food. It's been two days and I can't stop thinking about the Basic Breakfast Panini (scrambled tofu, dairy cheese, all the add-ons, for best results) and the Hash Brown Benedict out of my head. Honestly, it's hard to choose which was better*. Of particular note, the eggs over the hash browns were cooked perfectly and the asparagus paired very well. The sandwich with the seitan bacon and the toast held the sandwich well through the meal and avocado amount fair for the price. The chocolate milk was acceptable but more importantly, they offer a variety of choices of milk (and 16oz as a "medium" is no joke). Eating vegan these days is getting easier, thankfully! This place is dedicated to offering vegan options for the entire menu. In fact most offerings are vegan by default. The entire menu is available all day. That's why I had my Loaded Nachos at 10:30am. My wife had a traditional Lemon Poppyseed & Blueberry Crepe and said it was fresh and the best tasting one she's had in forever. The Beerline Mac was creamy, but missed the rich, gooey factor. This is the vegan place you bring people to and they understand why one would choose to be vegan. Backstory: I have been vegan for about a year. Part of the reason I was able to go vegan was due to the fact I travel for a living. Wisconsin is behind in the vegan game, and there's no way to sugar coat it. It's hard to find a true vegan restaurant. Often times I go into restaurants, sub almost everything off and end up paying full price for a piece of bread and a tomato. Restaurants around WI don't offer substitutes of any kind for meat or dairy products. This is where the love of Beerline Cafe comes in. Beerline Cafe is the true vegan restaurant where you can go in and order ANYTHING, ask for it to be made vegan and that's the end of it. It doesn't turn into a whole big production and headache like other restaurants around Wisconsin. You don't need to explain substitutes or ask if they have certain products. Beerline just has all the vegan products at the ready, knows what they are and how to use them. Not just use them, magically create wonderful meals with them. Anyone who is vegan knows how tricky cooking vegan can be. This place has mastered the art of vegan cooking and has made something truly delicious and special. Best thing is you don't even realize sometimes that the food is vegan. They display the names as everyday foods like Mac & Cheese, crepe cheesesteak, or eggs Benedict. I'm probably what you would call a veggie-leaning omnivore. I had been meaning to try this vegetarian cafe for awhile. It's actually pretty close to where I live, but it took me a little while to find it, tucked into the Hot Yoga building off Humboldt. I finally found my way here on a day when I was hungry but not looking to be in a food coma when it was all over with. On my first visit I had the Basic Breakfast Panini with tempeh bacon and veggies, and the rosemary potatoes. It was a pretty day and I sat for awhile. The atmosphere is pleasant with plants all around and nobody giving you dirty looks for lingering. I liked the tempeh bacon even though it didn't really remind me all that much of bacon. It had kind of a dense, nutty texture and a good smoky flavor. I was tempted to get something else with the tempeh bacon on a return visit, but the spring roll crepe (or cromlette--I got the crepe) was calling my name too. I didn't regret my decision. It had the right blend of richness and crunchy vegetables, with the savory flavor of the peanut sauce that came with it. Sriracha is a natural accompaniment for this one. Now that I know where this place is I'm sure I'll be back. It's a nice place to go for a meal or a coffee and in a pretty neighborhood to walk around in. A 20 minute detour DEFINITELY worth taking. After flying into MKE, I looked for good vegan eats. The high rating and inventive menu made Beerline the clear favorite but it was due north and I was heading southwest (after arriving on Southwest;-). I had some time so I decided to go for the drive. There's ample free parking on the street which was a plus but what awaited inside was even better. Spacious layout, with options for bar stool seating, tables for two, four and seven. An extensive menus with juices, smoothies, sandwiches, salads, crepes and baked goods - most of which were vegan. I asked the counter person for a tip and she suggested the Philly "cheese steak." Now as a Philly native, I am always a little skeptical of interpretations of this classic sandwich outside the 215 area code, but I decided to take the chance. I also splurged on a shake, a cookie and apple danish ... for a true taste test. The sandwich was really impressive. I shouldn't be surprised because it is Dairyland, but the vegan cheese sauce was a smokey, savory take on Cheese Whiz. The bread was fresh and the mushrooms and peppers all blended into the rich gooey goodness you crave from a steak sandwich. The Chai shake also represented the thick and rich texture of a shake with the nutty spices of chai tea! I was slurping to get to the last drop. And they graciously swapped the soy milk for almond milk at my request. I ordered rosemary potatoes after the sandwich took me to that comforts food place and they held their own too. The food came at a fair price and a welcoming, chill environment with jazz playing in the background. This is a great spot for studying, chilling or hanging with friends. We also got the strawberry banana orange smoothie and the crantioxident smoothie, which both were delicious. Fantastic options for vegetarians and vegans!
