Very disappointed today. I placed an order online for delivery, as I have done before. The website stated I could order delivery from the Merrionette park location. Then I get a call from the Blue Island- Kedzie location saying they do not deliver to my home. How does that even happen? What kind of business operates like this? It is not appreciated to have to drive to pick up and order when you offer delivery online; and have delivered to my home on previous occasions. The online system is severely lacking. There was no customer service efforts to correct the situation. The person that called even said they had nothing to do with the online system! I am now expected to pay, drive and correct your mistake. You really should revamp your online system and train your staff on how to troubleshoot issues that arise. read more

Ok before I start i must say that this is not reflection on all beggars....I love thier pizzas and the service is consistanly good. I have never been to this location before and was considerably diappointed. so we ordered a pizza half sausage half cheese and the combo platter apps. It was like they went to grocery store and opened up one of those bulk variety packs and microwaved it.....totally disgusting.....and the pizza was not the beggars i was used to when carrying out.....they are known for their "lay it on thick" cheese.....it certainly did not live up to it. to top it off my sister ordered a drink and right away the waitress ( who was not exactly helpful or expierenced) said that they might be out of whatever the drink was......she came back with the drink..a pink thing in a martini glass.....tasted horrible...i believe she made it herself.....its just not a place to eat-in. read more

One bite of this pizza and you drift away to heaven. I ran across Beggars while in the southwest suburbs. Let me tell you, this pizza is rich and yummy. They don't skimp on anything and you'll be lucky if you can eat 1 slice because of the sheer size of a single wedge. I'm quite excited to see Beggars moving into Chicago and I plan on being at their Clinton store whenever the rush hits. The pizza is nothing special, i've had better frozen pizza. But thats not the reason for the bad review, the bad review is for the terrible customer service. I didn't ask for crushed red peppers because they should always be given with a pizza, especially when youre paying $30 dollars!!! My friends have raved about Beggar's Pizza for YEARS! I finally got to experience the goodness of their pizza when they opened a few takeout facilities in Chicago. Groupon offered a special last week that allowed us to finally experience one of their sit down restaurants. It wasn't super busy for a Saturday night; mostly larger groups (5-8 people). Since it was FREEZING inside, we asked to be seated outside. Servers came out to clean tables, but we sat for 10 minutes until someone finally acknowledged us. After he confirmed we were indeed his table, our server was apologetic & extremely attentive, but his care didn't rub off on his fellow server who's tables complained about how long she went MIA. Food wise: pizza is better at my local Beggar's. There was a "mix up" w/my daughter's fish (they forgot it), so it was discounted. Appetizers (sampler platter) wasn't good. Not sure I'll visit this one again. I'll stick to carryout. read more

Oy! I knew that I shouldn't have gone to the buffet. They had fried chicken, mashed potatos, Italian sausage, beef, spaghetti with meat sauce, shrimp and of course. Pizza! I couldn't stop eating it was so good. They bring out a lot of the 12" so they never get cold or hang around to long. They are always fresh. They were constantly bringing out more food. And to top it off they have the bendy straws. I love this place, but I can never go back. I lose my screws when I see all this food. read more

Just visited this establishment on 8/25/19 with a friend from out of state. My friend ordered a small pizza and a side order of wings. The crust was burned and crunchy and the wings (which the staff had to be reminded to bring) had too much batter and were not edible. After sending the entire order back and waiting an additional 30 - 40 minutes, the pizza was upgraded to a medium and we got a complimentary salad. After going back and forth about the bill with the manager, who by the way appeared as if he didn't want to be bothered, there still was a charge for the order. The only good thing about the place was our server. Save your time and money and do not go to Blue Island establishment. Horrible and WILL NOT go back. The one on 127th and Kedzie is so much better and professional. read more

On a scale of 1-10 their deep/stuffed is about a 6/10 and thin crust ranks a 5/10. Pizza is expensive.

The pizza is ok when they get the order right. We called in a order, family size sausage and pepperoni. We get there, wait 40+ minutes only for the guy to come tell us that they accidentally added bacon...not Canadian bacon to our pizza. None of us eat bacon so that was a no go. They get 2stars because they didn't offer to amend there mistake in anyway. After waisting our time we walked out empty handed, disappointed, and hungry. read more

I used to love the pizza here, but then they began to take out all the fresh ingredients and using canned food. Canned mushrooms and jalapeño just too name a few. Fresh vegetables aren't very expensive. It's a shame really. read more

I have had one of the worse dining out experiences ever at this establishment tonight. I ordered an extra large turkey sausage and cheese pizza tonight with some friends. As we ate the pizza, we noticed that the pizza tasted funny. I smelled the turkey sausage and immediately knew that the meat was spoiled. I called the store to tell them about it and they offered me either our money back or another pizza. We ordered another pizza without meat this time. As we approached the establishment, we noticed that the whole staff was there to greet us. I told them about the situation the manager Mike told us he could not refund us or give us the new pizza because some of the pizza had been eaten. He offered a portion instead, after someone already offered full compensation over the phone. He did not compensate the situation at all and I ended up telling him to issue a refund on the pizza. He only refunded me an inaccurate portion of the pizza. I'm highly disappointed in the way the place handled my order and will be contacting corporate about this matter. They have absolutely terrible customer service and I am not satisfied with the results of this order. 3/17/19 update. I haven't received an email from this establishment and have not patronized it since this original post. read more

This is one of my favorite pizza places. Toppings are laid on thick. Love the sauce and cheese ratio. Parking sucks lot is too small!

This is by far the best Beggars location. It's the original, and they have the best tasting pizza of all their restaurants. We went there recently to dine in. It's not a fancy place, but it brought back so many memories, the service was great and the food was awesome. Love it! read more

Im done! Every time we order from here to have our food delivered, there is an issue......every time! If we dine in, we dine at the Merrionette Park location and their staff is wonderful. We never have a problem. In an effort to save money, today I decided to pick-up rather than opt for delivery. What a mistake....again. my order was incorrect- which I didnt realize until I got home because they conveniently kept my receipt. I called right away and at first the woman was very nice. Turns out the order was taken incorrectly from the start. She offered to get my correct order delivered as fast as possible. 50 minutes later I call and our food has yet to leave the restaurant. Mind you it was only some pasta which I belive they precook anyways. Then the girl says...it should be there within the hour. Are you kidding me? I ordered dinner at 5:55 and we are still waiting to eat. Then the manager gets back on and says I can have it on the way now unless you just dont want it. Wtf? Time to take my money elsewhere or just dine in at the MP location. So unprofessional and rude at the same time. Its sad cuz I really enjoy the food and so do my kids....who are very picky. read more

Decent Food but the owners change things way too often. This once used to be a reasonably priced place, but every time one of the owners kids gets a new car, the prices go up. Granted their mantra is "We lay it on thick", but some of us don't want 15 pounds of toppings on our pizza, and even if you ask for light toppings, you get charged for regular toppings. read more

I was never a die-hard Beggars fan, but tonight definitely changed my mind. We ordered nachos as an appetizer, which were OUTSTANDING. Fresh, home-made tortilla chips, tons of cheese and toppings... VERY good. Never expected Beggars to be a good place for nachos, but apparently I was wrong. The pizza was very very good. Perfect amount of toppings, not greasy whatsoever... it was pretty much perfect, actually. Our server was very nice and very attentive and the rest of the staff greeted us warmly and acknowledged us when we left. I will definitely be bringing my family back again. Beggars Pizza at 12660 Western Ave does not know how to make a crispy crust. I don't understand how that is possible. That's akin to McDonald's not knowing how to make french fries. When you order your crust crispy they enter "CRISPY CRISPY" on your receipt however what you receive is a thinner-than-normal crust that is soft and doughy. This happens to me every time including today (Nov-24-2013) for my order made at 1:28pm. I mention the date and time for management. Hopefully they will address this issue with the cook. I grew up in Blue Island and Beggars was always our top choice for thin crust pizza. I have never EVER had a pizza that wasn't cooked to perfection from here. I literally crave this place. Whether I'm ordering for a group or for myself it is always a treat. I usually order sausage and green peppers.....OMG I need to stop typing this review because I'm starting to drool. I've eaten pizza all over the nation and this place is by far the worst pizza restaurant I've ever been to. The customer service sucks. I was there today and a domestic broke out in there. This one guy stood up in the booth and cursed his girlfriend out and hit her in the face with a plate and he walked off. As he was walking off his girlfriend through a plate at him, the plate flew across the room. Just one booth behind them me a my 3 year old is ducking hoping that everything will diffuse. The whole time the waiting staff is just standing there like it was a soap opera. I had to tell them to make sure the guy don't come back into the restaurant and please call the police. In the mist of everything eveyone that was in that area was in a shock. The manager, waiting staff or owner never apologized or asked anyone if they was okay or tried to do anything. It was like the whole altercation never happened. In addition, the pizza was very bland, and plain. It tasted like watered down soggy cardboard. Like a tasteless, worthless cause of living matter. I personally will never go to this place again. For me and my child safety, the lack of good customer service, and the horrible pizza. I wish it was something less than one star to give them. The one on 116th and Kedzie and Barraco's is extremely better. read more

My family has been ordering from beggars since the very first day they opened in Blue Island. Even as we my brothers and sister moved away we stayed loyal to Beggars. We would swing by to bring home either an already cooked pizza or an uncooked one to put in our oven. Then when they started to open new restaurants closer to our homes we were so happy that they were right in our neighborhoods. Last week we ordered a pizza and was told that they recently had a slight price increase. Ok I can handle a dollar or two increase from time to time. Everyone is hit by the cost of living increase. But tonight's order of the lasagna dinner was out of line. I had the old menu ( old from 2-3 weeks prior) stated a prices of $11.95 which included bread and butter and your choice of either soup or salad and your choice of one of their 3 sauces . Tonight's Lasagna dinner was now hold on for this shocker now $17.95 a $6 increase. Then there's another hit the girl taking my order asked if I would like to add a cup or soup or salad for $2.95 or $3.95. I was still in shock from the $17.95 price that originally included soup or salad and didn't register the soup/salad price right away. I had to double check the price not once but few times to make sure I heard it correctly and yes I was told now almost rudely that the $17.95 was correct for one piece of lasagna. I didn't even ask if there was an upcharge for the meat sauce. I am saddened to see that Beggars is pricing us out. We are a hard working middle class family and can eat out from time to time, but not at these prices. I would expect these prices in a nice Italian restaurants like Maggiano's which by the way their lasagna dinner only cost $15.95. Maggiano's prices also include their service and all the extras that comes with it like the warm bread and oil, a salad and Oh by the way you can take home another pasta at no extra cost. We have such a long history with Beggars, it is going to be hard not calling them anymore for a dinner or pizza but we cant justify their greediness. Until they rethink their extremely high prices we will be going elsewhere. If you can afford their increase and don't mind getting ripped off then by all means go ahead and order from them but I would really rethink your choice when you can get one down the street which is just as good but much cheaper. . Beggars is okay, but if your from BI like me, back in the 60s and 70s there were better pizza joints around like Ray's and Guiseppis.... The problem with most pizza is crappy mozzarella cheese, dead dough and greasy meats.. And it's hard to find restaurants that don't buy food from those chain freezer stores and make their own sausage, dough with active yeast and fresh mozzarella. read more

When it comes to customer service, I have never experienced ordering with such a polite and happy young man who was obviously happy to be a part of the Beggars staff. Yesterday afternoon I was in the Blue Island area visiting an old buddy of mine, so on my way home I decided to stop and get some of what has been bragged to be the best pizza in Chicago, A young man who seemed to be the only employee working the counter greeted me as I walked in asking how I was before the door even closed behind me. I replied "Great" as I continued walking into the restaurant. I asked the young man if he had any suggestions on the pizza and he told me that he really likes the sausage and/or pepperoni served there. He did inform me though that if I were to order a whole pizza that it would take around half an hour, he then pointed out that there was a special going on for a slice and a can of pop for only a little over three dollars, so I decided to go with that. So he took my order and charged me for the slice and can pop, meanwhile I asked where the restroom was so I could wash my hands, he pointed it out, and by the time I was finished washing my hands and returning to the counter he had already cut and boxed my slice and had the can on the counter waiting for me. As I grabbed my lunch he informed me to be carful as the slice had recently came out of the oven so it was really hot, and not to tilt it as the sausage and cheese would slide off of the slice. After what seemed like a mental preparation, He then told me to have a nice day as I was walking out the door. As I said the service was outstanding, and being from downtown Chicago, that isn't always expected. I'll be returning to this Beggars from now on whenever I am around in suburbs. read more
