When I lived in Burlingame this was my haunt and I miss it dearly even with all the places to go to up in the city. Shuffle board, darts and the every amazing karaoke sundays. What's not to like? The drinks are as cheap as one could hope for and the bartenders are all friendly assuming you aren't a pompous a$$. The lovely picture of the outdoor back area probably shouldn't be up here unless you plan on going during the day because it's ALWAYS closed at night. Love eternal to the Behan's crowd and staff. I've been here once for a very short time. A girl I know was going to get a facial down the street and while waiting in the car, I was cruising yelp and saw an "Irish Pub" right down the street and my interest was sparked. I waltzed down the street and was quite impressed by the nightlife feel of Broadway since I'm pretty unfamiliar with this side of the bay. When i walked in, there were about 4 other people loosely hanging around here and there. I sat at the bar and the bar tender took a break from reading a news paper and served me my Guinness. He poured it with extreme care and I was quite impressed by this because with his Irish accent, I was quite confident that he knew what he was doing and would surely pour me a beautiful glass of Guinness; low and behold, this was the case. The ambiance of the place was SO cool that I was almost taken aback when I first opened the door. There was lots of brown and lots of fine wood grain all over the place and if there are two things that absolutely steal my heart away when it comes to ambiance it is brown and it is wood grain -- love that. Another cool thing about the feel of this place was the set up of the bar, lots of glasses, nice bottles of liquor tastefully lined up, mirrored walls, and sections of clear Christmas lights overhead(another thing I absolutely love). Since I didn't spend much time here, I didn't have time to feel out the type of crowd, but everyone was nice, struck up a good conversation, and had a good glass of beer in a cool place -- thats deserving of 5 stars in my eyes. If I lived in Burlingame I would most definitely stop in for a beer again with a few buddies, very cool place. read more

A little dark and cave-like, but then, I think it's supposed to be that way. A low-key spot for darts and good, old-fashioned drinking. There's quite an age range among the patrons, which makes for excellent people watching. A pint of Guinness will run you $4.50 -- and they know how to pour a Guinness well. read more

I'm shocked I haven't written a review for Behan's yet. It's the closest bar to my parent's house. It's also nice to stop by here on the way home from Village Host or bring the food there if you want. Bartenders are awesome, Nora, Paul, Bernie, etc. are great. They have karaoke on Sunday nights and apparently SF Giant Aubrey Huff sung a few country songs. Yes, cash only, though they do have an ATM. Drinks are reasonably priced. They have shuffleboard and darts if you're really bored. Ask behind the bar to borrow the dice if you want to play a few games. If you're single I wouldn't count on going here to pick up a lady. Not saying it couldn't happen but I tend to go here with a group and run in to some old friends and/or locals. It's also open on Thanksgiving and Christmas where there are all sorts of reunions. I love this bar, it is stumbling distance for most of my friends - so we can drink all night and not worry about driving. It is always filled with faces I do and don't wanna see, but it is always a great time. This place was a cool "downtown Burlingame" bar. Of course Burlingame isn't very big to begin with, but this little bar was memorable and cute. It has an out door patio in back and its quite cute. Gets busy on the weekends and Fridays (as any bar would). The Irish owner/bartender can be kinda rude or appear snappy at times- but I think that just comes with dealing with the many a-holes at a bar. I can't say enough about Behan's Irish bar! I used the back patio area to celebrate my daughter's 30th birthday and we were given the go ahead to decorate it as we wanted, and have food catered in, and what a transformation!! An already cute patio was turned around. With the warmth of the fire pits, fairy lights everywhere and the welcoming atmosphere and great service it ended up being a magical evening! Horrible. I came with 15 friends and Nobody was shown any respect. We were treated like children and the old men behind the counter had an attitude problems. Last call was at 12:45 and we were literally kicked out at 1:15. This is a decent pub in downtown Burlingame. They have an eclectic juke box. (Yes, I judge a place by their jukebox). The drinks aren't terribly strong or expensive. At least my drink didn't seem to strong, although it did make me sleepy. They have a shuffle board (I think that's what it is) there which always makes for fine entertainment. Great, Irish neighborhood bar along the Broadway strip in Burlingame...visited this bar for the 2nd time this evening and had a good time once again. Pros: Authentic, towny atmosphere - lots of regulars, seems like the kind of place "where everybody (eventually) knows your name"...fills a void on a quieter strip where there are few bars to choose from...fireplace to warm up by on a rainy night... Cons: Drinks aren't particularly remarkable...darts and dart boards are worn out, could use a little TLC.... I get the vibe that this may be a family-owned place - would love to know the full story behind it. So far, the staff I've seen consists of a middle-aged man and woman and an older gentleman - all with hints of Irish blood/accents - are they a family? Did the old man originally found the place? This may be the best bar in Burlingame. I've never been in on a Sunday so I can't comment on the Karaoke. But I've been in Behan's 6 or 7 times now and I have yet to go there without being stared down by someone. The place is filled with late 30's / mid 40's bored dudes pissing on their territory, whether they be in ironed button ups or paint spattered 49er's shirts. Occasionally a good looking heavily guarded girl is around. The beers cost $5, which makes 3 for $20 with tip. Two guys actually tried to hustle me and my friend at darts here. They threw all over the board then put up a drink bet and started throwing 8T0 groupings. There are some redeeming qualities: The ladies I've met behind the bar are always nice. I did have a long interesting conversation with a guy stopping in to drink from Ireland. They have shuffle board and the music selection is good if you're into classic rock and Marley. Its quite an odd contrast against the backdrop of coffee shops, over priced dinner spots, and nail and wax salons. The big bonus is they don't have mid-20's rich boy gangster wannabe's which seem to infest the other bars in this town. I'm sure if I was a local the scene would be different as soon as I got past the posturing. So if you're looking for a place to get boilermaker wasted drunk and 'accidentally' back your bar stool onto someones foot this is the place. You can be loud here and free and they may 86 you but they'll let you back another day. read more

I am quite the fan of this spot. We happened upon it after a birthday dinner at Village Host down the street. Very chill atmosphere, nice folks and an awesome juke box. tonight, it was a bit more crowded but, there was a sweet band called "Hollywood" there that did a cover of Regulators. F-ing SWEET, I say!! Total local neighborhood spot. If you are going to meet some neighbors, grab a quick beer, or meet friendly people this is the spot for you. If you are younger, like myself, this spot probably won't be too appealing. It is a bit of an older crowd but again still friendly and easy to pick up a convo with others. Behan's can be hit or miss if you're going for the people-watching. Some weekend nights you can go at 10 and it's practically empty, other times it's packed. There's a HUGE age range - I inevitably end up sitting next to a 65-year-old guy while some frat boys drink their Buds behind me. It's cool to see some of the older Burlingame locals, even if I often feel like the youngest person there. There's sometimes live music on Saturdays that closes off the dart boards, so beware if you're going for that. Never been to Sunday night karaoke, but I've walked by a few times and it sounds...terrible, as good karaoke should. The drinks aren't cheap, but no more expensive than anywhere else in Bgame (except maybe Village Host). This is the closest bar to me, so I'd go even if it sucked, but luckily it doesn't. Nice, small Irish pub. Was recently in Ireland, and this place was very typical of a neighborhood pub you find there. Great selection of beers, ales, stouts, & whiskey. No food, but they have menus for Big Joe's Cafe, just down the street. They called Joe's for us, we ordered, and food was delivered in 10 minutes and we ate at the bar - good portions and fresh.
