    Cab Cab Cab Wine Flight

We visited Velvet 48 Wine Bar on a Saturday evening and got seated right away as walk-ins. They only had a high-top table available, but there were also some booth tables and bar seating. The interior was well-lit, with elegant modern decor. For drinks, my friend and I both opted for wine flights. She chose the Spicy Reds flight and I got the Cab Cab Cab flight. Honestly, I wish I'd gotten the Spicy Reds because I liked her lineup so much more. We also ordered the Gougères to share, which were pretty solid. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive!

We came here for a pre dinner hang out. We ordered two red wines and were given samplers of the sparkling wine. We mentioned this was our pit stop before heading to Rasa and they were understanding and even offered to close us out. The ambiance is perfect for date night! It's relaxing and private. The wine is smooth and the customer service is excellent! Definitely a must try when in Burlingame!

I Velvet 48! It's the perfect wine bar that's tucked away in downtown Burlingame Been here a few times for girls nights and whenever my family visits. A must-try for their wonderful wine flights! Andrea has been my server multiple times and she always provides great recommendations!

Velvet 48 is the local version of finding "that" amazing place in Paris or Rome where you immediately feel like you have discovered an unexpected secret. The wines are great - but even better is the team who gives amazing recommendations and makes you feel welcome. Think Midnight in Paris meets Cheers. It's truly worthy of taking a walk down that long hall to find a place where you will want them to know your name.

Burlingame has long been overdue for a dedicated wine bar, and Velvet 48 Wine Bar fills that gap beautifully. Years ago, we were regulars at Nectar, a beloved spot for date nights, and ever since it closed, we've been waiting for something that could capture that same charm. Velvet 48 delivers. Though centrally located, the entrance is a bit tucked away -- we might have missed it if a friend hadn't recommended it. We're so glad they did. From the moment you walk in, the service is warm, welcoming, and attentive without being overbearing. You're greeted with a taste of their house sparkling rosé, which is so good we end up ordering it every time we visit. That said, their wine list is extensive and thoughtfully curated, and they also offer bottles to-go. We always enjoy their cheese and charcuterie boards -- either one of each or the half-and-half option, which makes a perfect light bite before dinner. If you're looking for an inviting, high-quality wine bar in Burlingame, Velvet 48 is absolutely worth a visit.

After dinner at Rise Pizzeria on the evening of Wednesday, September 18, 2024, a group of us walked the streets of downtown Burlingame for some after dinner drinks. Our first stop was at Velvet 48 Wine Bar. We arrived shortly before closing, around 8:30 pm, to a nearly empty venue. Excuse my ignorance, but do wine bars normally follow restaurant hours? I just found it interesting that they were closing at 9:00 pm that night. No biggy to me, just curious. Inside, the venue is comparable to the size of a small café. At the time of our visit, the modern space was brightly lit and impressively pristine. I didn't use the restroom, but, based on the main area, I assume that it was immaculate as well. Upon seating, each of us were served a complimentary welcome pour of their SPARKLING NV Velvet 48 Revel Rosé ($16/Glass, $55/Bottle) which I found to be crisp, refreshing, and a tad bit dry. Disclosure: I'm no wine connoisseur, so that was my amateur critique that no aficionado should rely on as accurate. Our party of about six persons ordered a bottle to share and finish within half an hour. I couldn't drink a whole glass, so I gave my share to Joanna. Edward ordered a Glass of Broadbent 10 Year Aged Tawny Port which I found to be very nice. Service was very friendly and welcoming. If I return, which I wouldn't mind doing, I will order the same port that I sipped from Edward...and the Burrata & Pesto. I've got my eye on their Italian Pistacchio Ricotta Cake, too!

Stopped in for a quick drink with friends before dinner. The location is right in the middle of downtown Burlingame and has a great selection of wine and beer. The food menu was light but had enough grazing options to choose from. I had the house rose which was delicious and we shared some of their house warm bread and butter that hit the spot. The staff was very sweet and helpful. Overall great little gem in Burlingame to check out.

I visited the other day. I simply love this place. First of all I was by myself, and that can be weird at a restaurant. But the staff here was exceptional. I came in for wine and dessert. After I sat, I received a complimentary glass of champagne. I didn't know what wine to order, but I was able to describe the taste I was looking for (a big tannic heavy red that feels like a blanket in my belly). The waitress tried and then the team collaborated with a couple of options. It was great! And the chocolate mousse dessert complemented the red wine just perfectly! Even with how spectacular the service, wine and dessert were.... The BEST was the warm welcome I received from the bar staff. Drea stands out. I'm new to the area and she gave me a few recommendations of places to eat and things to do. It was amazing, not too overwhelming either. For the first time since I moved here (8 months ago) I felt I finally found a community.

Cool wine bar hidden in a narrow entrance. The service is tops they are so informative and welcoming. We tried a flight of champagne and another one of Pinot Noir's. Ordered a cheese and charcuterie plate to go with it. Great place to hang out and try wine.

We were warmly greeted by a server upon entering through the long walkway in. She was very sweet and gave us the full run down of options after checking our IDs. They have a lot of good deals going on with 30% off all bottles on the menu to take home and 50% off select bottles to go. We opted to try 2 flights- the Pinot noirs and the Cab, cab, cab. It was nice to be able to try many different wines at different price points to compare. Their bottle prices are all very reasonable as well if you know what you like. This place has a very relaxed environment with a modern ambiance. Highly recommend you check it out if you're looking for a relaxing yet fun weekend activity to chill with friends over some wine.

I want to be transparent at the outset: we ultimately did not visit, so this review is not about…read morethe Champagne, the space, or the in-person experience. It is specifically about the reservation handling and customer service we experienced. My partner and I recently moved to the Bay Area and enjoy exploring restaurants, wine, and tasting experiences. Our plan for Thursday, August 13, was to attend the San Francisco Champagne Society Happy Hour at 6:00 PM and then go to our confirmed 8:00 PM dinner at Lazy Bear. Our Lazy Bear reservation was correctly booked for August 13. My partner genuinely believed she had also selected August 13 when booking SFCS through Tock, but the completed reservation and reminder emails showed Wednesday, August 12. We do not know whether the date reset during booking or we simply made a selection error. Either way, we acknowledge that we failed to notice the date shown in those two emails and consequently missed the reservation. The next day, as soon as we discovered the problem, we contacted the owner. We did not request a cash refund. We asked whether our prepaid $102.90 Happy Hour reservation could be moved to an available time that day, either 5:00 or 6:00 PM. The owner explained that he had held two seats, prepared the space, and created a menu for the missed reservation. I understand that resources may have been used and that the original booking was designated nonrefundable. However, the only exception initially offered was an upgrade to a $125-per-person experience. The total would be $334.06, with our original $102.90 credited, requiring us to pay an additional $231.16. The first time offered was 7:00 PM, which would not work because of our 8:00 PM dinner. The owner later offered 5:30 PM under the same upgrade condition. Trying to reach a reasonable compromise, we proposed using our original payment for the same Happy Hour experience that day and separately purchasing a $75 or $125 experience that weekend. We explained that we are Champagne enthusiasts, had just moved here, and wanted to explore the different experiences step by step and potentially become repeat customers. The owner's final offer was that we prepay a completely new $125-per-person reservation for any date that month before a 3:00 PM deadline. Only if we made that new purchase--approximately $334.06--would he allow us to attend the previously paid Happy Hour at 5:00 PM that day. He also stated that we could dispute the charge and might win, that Tock's coverage would still pay him, and that we would then be unable to make any future reservations at his establishment. I understand that a business may enforce a nonrefundable no-show policy. If the answer had simply been a polite "no," I would have been disappointed but would have understood. What created such a negative impression was making a substantial, time-limited additional purchase the condition for any accommodation, even after we offered to purchase another experience separately that weekend. It felt less like a gesture of hospitality or a good-faith attempt to resolve an honest mistake and more like using the mistake as leverage to secure an immediate additional sale. The warning that a billing dispute would result in being barred from future reservations made the interaction feel even more adversarial. This was not about the $102.90 or an unwillingness to pay $125 per person. We were already prepared to make another paid reservation. It was about the principle involved and the way the situation was handled. Based solely on this customer-service experience, we decided not to visit or make any future reservations. Again, I cannot evaluate the Champagne or the on-site experience; this review concerns only the reservation process and the owner's handling of the issue.

Bill greeted us at the door and showed us into the space. Despite being a primarily residential building, the tasting lounge was professional, clean, and well curated - great vibe (no idea why anyone would feel differently). Started by pulling up maps to show us where our wines would be coming from with details on the terroir and some history on the producers. Many of these producers he's visited and knows personally, which made whole experience feel much more authentic than others tastings I've done. Can tell he really loves this stuff and his passion is contagious. Poured very unique bottles you won't find many other places and all delicious. Recommend any champagnes fans in Bay Area visit.

I'd been following them on instagram eagerly awaiting their opening, so when opening week finally came, I rushed in. They were still in sort of a soft opening phase trying to figure out what the hours would be, but I was thrilled to have them open a little bit earlier on a Sunday so we could enjoy some post hike bubbles. When we went in they had two different flight options of three champagnes. We opted for one of each to share, so that way we could try all of the open bottles. In addition to the flights they have champagne by the glass, bottle, and half bottle, as well as a still red, white, and rose, and a beer. They also have a few n/a options and some snacks and light bites. Mel helped us the entire time and was very fun to chat with! A lot of the time champagne can feel unapproachable, and that was not at all the case here. The whole experience was very fun and casual, but in a beautifully upscale space. However, the truffle flavor that made it shine during the first visit was much more subdued on our second. Between the Big Eye Tuna and King Salmon Chirashi Bowl and Snake River flat iron steak bowl, the chirashi was the one we duped as the tuna and salmon was super fresh that it took self-control not to devour that entire bowl without saying a single word. The royal caviar bump was surprisingly the one thing that was underwhelming considering it is formerly a caviar bar. I probably should've just gotten the osetra with the uni toast instead. The Hokkaido uni toast is on par with the uni we had in Japan, sweet, creamy, and oh so delicious. With the addition of the uni toast, the bill does add up even if you're only there for HH but it was worth every penny.
