I have to say, that today is my day to write the reviews I need. I am in fact taking my time away from other things to do so, as I think that the feedback we all provide is important for those who are seeking opinions from others for services at a particular establishment. We have to take the time to let others know either how bad is the situation we are walking into or how much you will benefit from going to a place. Thankfully, the latter is the case Spainhower Chiropractic. I was walking and was distracted as I turned my back to get out of the way and my ankle rolled into the edging of the grass and sidewalk. Not paying attention leads to injury. Though it was not serious , the pain was incredible! I thought maybe I could muster through the pain and just wait a few days before seeing a physician. I did the norm ice, motrin, elevation. That was a blunder. I started having such dreadful pain in my ankle, leg and every time I tried to put the slightest weight, I would freak out. It was crazy! The pain was unbearable, so much that I couldn't take it. Went to Urgent care, they took an xray and said no fracture or broken bones , just injury to my soft tissues, so they wrapped my foot and sent me home with meds. I really don't take any medication at all if I can deal with the pain. If I absolutely have to then I will. Weeks passed and my ankle was not better. I had been using a scooter & cane to get around. I couldn't go to work and or about my everyday business. I am a very busy individual, my time is valuable and my right ankle not working was a setback . I was determined to go back to my doctor if the pain did not subside. It didn't in fact it got much worse throughout each day ( the easiest way to describe it is, getting a paper cut or even using a knife incorrectly and slicing yourself) Can you just imagine that same pain on the back of your achilles tendon?! Unbearable!! I made an appt with my PCP and she was scheduling another xray and MRI. After going home and not feeling any relief I was finally at my breaking point. I was in serious pain, I couldn't straighten myself up, thus I decided to go see Dr Spainhower in my 5th week of being injured. BEST DECISION EVER! I went there the first time around May 23rd before I went in vacation and it was a consult and exam of my foot. Today is just the 13th of June I am back on track! I can walk independently without a cane but still take it when I walk a far distance or in public. After the 5th visit , I will say that I feel 90% better! He did an adjustment, trying to reset my ankle, laser to promote quicker healing used this tape for support. This is almost incredible. It is so frustrating when you have an everyday routine and something like this happens. Dr. Spainhower and the staff are cordial and want the best for their patients. They are welcoming , considerate, patient & very professional. I will be there next week as I am attending a well class. Here's my honest experience.. My first low star rating. :( I'm from out of town on a work trip, the day before we left my neck went out- bad, extremely painful. And I was desperate. I called Spainhower to see if they had anything available. Also asked which insurance they took, and they take Blue; which is mine. THE FRONT DESK was kind and sweet, they fit me as soon as they could that afternoon. Thank God! Upon arrival I did the paper work and gave them my card and asked what the deductible would be. The finance insurance lady was working on getting that for me. THE DOC was kind, informative and professional, also thorough. Which I really appreciated. He made manual adjustments which were precise and comfortable (even with my condition) which he diagnosed. I went on to the therapy room for electro therapy, and THE THERAPY ASSISTANT was just lovely, I enjoyed her personality, she even recommended restaurants in town during my short stay in Sac. Honestly I can say I felt 30-40% better. With more range of motion in my neck. After the session the front desk and insurance lady was acting weird... they said they had to "explain" my insurance. That they do not take my insurance. Immediate my heart started beating and I was in a panic. This is exactly why I asked for the deductible price before my treatment, I didn't want to run into this problem. Of course I was upset and embarrassed. I assumed they waited until after my treatment (which took an hour) for them to tell me they had to charge me their walk in fee of $100. IT DOES NOT take 60 mins to see if my insurance covered this visit. But they waited until I was done. I can't help but feel conned into this. If I knew they didn't take my Insurance (which initially they told me they took, I would've gone somewhere else). They did not apologize or offer any type of adjustment to the price. And the attitudes in the front turned sour and a snide "bye" as I walked out the door. Totally ruining my experience :( 1 star for cleanliness. 1 star for effectiveness. 1 star for the personality of the sweet therapy assistant. (She deserves it) I learned from my experience, I will not accept treatment unless I know for a FACT they cover it. Isn't that the whole reason we have insurance? read more

This review has been in the making for several years now. I just got busy and kept forgetting to post it. I first came in to Spainhower Chiropractic (then called "First Chiropractic,") for treatment after having met Gary Spainhower and got his card at the State Fair back in 2006 (+/-, so long ago I can't remember exactly), and getting a very positive feeling from him. I find him and his staff to be helpful, caring and his office to be very friendly. People talk to one another in the waiting area and I have seen people from my neighborhood there, too. It is important to me in any healthcare setting to be in a warm, friendly, caring place, like when I go have my painful lower back problems treated at Spainhower Chiropractic. After a break where I was managing well enough that I hadn't been in, I was in a hit and run auto collision that left me in absolutely horrendous pain and in need of chiropractic care. I went back to Dr. Spainhower for intensive and then extended lower back treatment, that, because of other chronic health challenges, was slower than what's generally considered typical time to improve to what is as close to pre-accident as possible. Dr. Spainhower knew of my medical history and challenges and incorporated this into the treatment plan, and he used in combination a few treatment modalities throughout my treatment, making adjustments as indicated. I so much appreciated Dr. Spainhower's and his assistant's patience and perseverance through the long treatment, and for working diligently with the insurance company to ensure continued coverage for what treatment the ins co thought should already have been completed (in an otherwise healthy individual), and what would have been a huge financial burden on me. Dr. Spainhower and his staff know their patients and greet them in a personal and caring way. It is evident that he has an authentic rapport with all of his patients. He has experienced intense pain and a health setback, bringing to him the compassion and understanding of someone who's actually traveled this road first hand. I have chiropractic benefits available through my Kaiser health coverage, but I feel connection with and confidence in Dr. Spainhower's clinic such that I, except for the auto collision, pay out of pocket instead of using a provider that is on Kaiser's 'list of providers' (ah, if only he were a Kaiser provider-I do understand why he isn't, however). That says a lot about my opinion of Dr. Spainhower and his crew. I have gotten massages there, too, from a variety of therapists, and not one has provided an unsatisfactory experience. That being said, some of the massage therapists have met my own particular preferences and needs better than others, e.g., deep tissue, trigger points, adhesions. I gotta tell you this story: There was this one massage therapist who put the deep in deep tissue (maybe why he didn't last very long there?), but he would lighten up if told. I like a good amount of pressure, but was pretty sore after that massage. HOWEVER, where I was having sustained, very bothersome pain on a shoulder tendon (rotator cuff?) where I couldn't help from using or moving the arm, he worked on it hard (just past the edge of too hard) and cured the problem! I have been very careful with my shoulders ever since in hopes it doesn't come back because I don't know where to find this guy! It was truly amazing! So, I am not one of those go to see a doctor or anyone for pain, BUT while working out on Monday, I don't know what I did, but I super hurt my back. So one of my co-workers suggested going to see a chiropractor, so I was like ok. I was walking like a grandma (no offense lol) and could barely pick up my 18 month old without shooting pain yesterday afternoon. I went in there, he cracked my pelvic bone? I think on both sides and then he put some electrode things on my back, which hurt, but like hurt good and seriously, I am almost back to normal. It's a little achey, but I have had NO shooting pains or sharp pains and I was getting them from even bending over yesterday. My primary reason for visiting First Chiropractic was severe aching and cramping in my neck, shoulders, and upper back. The main cause of this is sitting at a desk for the majority of my job. I was given the Gift of Wellness by a friend (who highly recommended First Chiropractic) and so my primary exam and consultation was free of charge. Dr. Spainhower was very thorough in asking me about my history of pain and aches, and I ended up giving him a list of ALL my issues over the years. The doctor explained how one issue could have compounded the next, so on, and so forth. You can choose to get a quick fix for the symptoms, or you can choose corrective care, which lasts much longer and gets you back to a healthy state for long term. I chose corrective care and the doctor and his staff were wonderful in working with me to create a care plan that would work. After getting adjusted and receiving physical therapy treatments several times a week for the past 4.5 weeks, I am seeing definite improvement in pain relief, flexibility, and mobility. I went from gobbling ibuprofen and Tylenol several times a day to maybe once a week, if that. Dr. Spainhower also gave additional outside-the-office resources including a sheet of stretches to do daily and suggestions like yoga, massage therapy, etc. Incorporating several of these has definitely helped facilitate my improvement and I recommend doing what you can on your own to supplement treatment. I couldn't be happier that I decided to start coming here and I definitely recommend First Chiropractic to anyone who is experiencing pain and is tired of just being prescribed pain meds. Spainhower Chiropractor is great. When I first came here, the first thing I noticed was the fresh baked cookies. You can't beat free cookies. The staff is amazing, and I was really surprised how fast they learned my unique, unorthodox name. They are great, understanding, and very helpful. I came here for an accident to get some physical therapy and have seen dramatic improvements What do they offer? They offer physical therapy and practice adjustments to the body. Anywhere from the neck, the upper or lower back, or sometimes both. They have a private station separated for male and female for where they offer the therapy. You won't have to worry about being a female in a room of males where they all get therapy. The therapy itself is different from what I thought. What I expected was physical "massage" but they have this cool machine that does that for you, and oh does it hit the spot. They pad you up to your preference, either lower or upper back and crank up the intensity to your preference. They also offer ultrasound and laser treatment as well. Consultation is free. Best I've visited. Thorough with a lot of options for furthering care. I do a lot of lifting at work and due to recent "bursitis" after an injury parts of my L arm were occasionally going numb. They've fixed me up as well as my teenager's ankle problems. They even call to follow up after your first appointments. The office staff can be a little pushy about making new appointments, but I need to be told what's good for me sometimes, so it's ok. Once I said i had a once a month plan, they laid off. I was recently in an auto accident and have been in pain. First Chiropractic was recommended to me by a friend, and I am pleased with the results. I'd never visited a chiropractor before, and was already in pain and nervous. Everybody was friendly and welcoming. I've only visited once, and got an adjustment, ultrasound, and some sort of wave therapy. My pain has lessened since my visit and I'm hoping that I'll be back to normal (or as close as I've ever been to it) after another visit or two. I went to Spainhower to address a lower back issue. Spent several thousand dollars and I stop going because the issue never got better. The adjustment was the same for my back as well as my wife's issue which was nerve related. It help her some but as for me I am no better off. All that money spent for what I feel was a waste, if they adjust you with an assembly line style adjustment (same for everyone) and does not address your issue go somewhere else! I've had major back issues for years due to herniated and bulging discs and Degenerative Disc Disease. Chiropractic care has always been huge for me so when I moved back to Sacramento, I immediately booked an appointment. On my first exam, I could barely move to be honest without a lot of pain. I was typically around a 5-6 on the pain scale daily. It's only been a month and I now have pain free moments. At most, my pain will get to a 3 but I rebound quickly.
