I received a hair cut and an acrylic manicure while on vacation in Houston. I Google searched for a salon and chose this one based on reviews and location. While the haircut was great, the young inexperienced woman who did my nails obviously didn't clean her equipment because I now have a paronychia, or nail infection that occurs in the nail beds. I have just been to urgent care where I've been diagnosed and prescribed antibiotics. I've had to take off work for this and pay in a painful finger. Do NOT use this location. Ever! I was traveling through Houston and desperately needed my hair and nails done which had been months due to the closing of salons during the Covid virus. I happened to be walking by the salon and they were able to accommodate me thankfully. Carmen did my nails and the owner herself did color on my hair and an updated cut. The quality of my manicure was as good as any I have gotten before and my hair color and cut were just what I needed. I usually go to Midtown Retreat - which i highly recommend. Pricey but you get what you pay for. I work in downtown and wanted to go here during my lunch break to save me time. The nail salon i usually go to requires an appointment, so yes my bad I should of known better. However, the way these two ladies handled the situation when I walked in makes me want to never give them a try again. It was a Hispanic lady and a black lady. They did not greet me ( I was the one that said hello) and they were very unpleasant about the appointment situation... me: "hello, id like to get a manicure and pedicure" black lady: "at 2?" me: "no...now?" hispanic lady: "no. we only have 2ocock" me: "oh it is by appointment only? ladies: "yep." dry dry, no smile, rude sarcastic tone. I would of handled it like this... ladies: "hello welcome" me: "hello, i would like a manicure and pedicure" ladies: "im so sorry we only have a 2 o'clock spot. we do highly recommend our clients make an appointment to avoid waiting." me: "oh ok good to know, thank you, maybe next time!" it's that simple. They lost someone that could of potentially have been a lifetime guest. they left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I will never go back. read more

Have been here several times for manicures/pedicures and kick myself every time I go back. It is very convenient as it's the only nail place I have found downtown within walking distance of my work but they charge you an arm and a leg for everything they do. The advertised prices are NOT what you pay, I would advise that you ask before getting anything done. I was once told I had a nail fungus and quickly and quietly persuaded to buy some nail fungus treatment from the lady doing my nails. It seemed very "under the table" because she didn't give me my change and told me to be hush hush about it. I was startled at the nail fungus remark but after going home and doing some research it was just a scam. My nails were perfectly fine and I didn't even use the product she sold me, no telling what was really in the bottle anyway. As far as quality goes, I've never had any work done, last more than 7 days without peeling or chipping, etc. And I am referring to Shellac here. This shouldn't be happening. When I pay over $50 for a manicure I expect it to last, for the color to be inside the lines and to not have my cuticles ripped to shreds. read more

I asked for a flat top and now I look like a skin head. The beautician was clearly in a hurry to leave and take care of a personal matter. She checked her watch every minute. I was in and out of the chair in under five minutes (which would otherwise be a good thing). I said several times that I wanted a flat top, none the less, everything was buzzed. If you don't have time to do the job that you are being paid to do, then don't take the job. Especially when a "flat top" cost $28.00. On the upside, the manager did offer my next hair cut for free. It is really frustrating when someone feels entitled to not do their job and still get paid. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I went for a bikini wax and the wax stuck to my skin and was painful. The technician was unable to remove it and continued adding more. Once I asked her to stop applying more wax, she applied more and then did not care that I expressed that it was painful. As someone who has had hundreds of waxes, this was the first and only that truly threatened my safety. The manager did not apologize when I walked out with wax still on my skin. This is the most unprofessional, unclean place with the rudest service I have ever encountered. I hope the BBB investigates this business as it is unfit to continue offering services to anyone and is an extreme safety hazard. This place is dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. read more

I came here for the first time yesterday, I wanted a full set of acrylics. I was told to pick the color I wanted from nail polishes they had. The girl who did my nails was Hannah. She was very nice and seemed like she was doing a great job with the acrylics. When she painted my nails however that changed. She told me to let them dry off in a fan they had and to leave when I was ready. I waited 30 minutes, letting them dry off because I did not want them to smudge. Well they smudged instantly. The pics I'm posting are from this morning, so 16 hours later. I am NOT happy. The ONLY nail that is good is my right pinky nail. I paid $40 for this. I'm really unhappy. read more

Went in for a 30 min pedi, which is a service they advertise. Made my appt one day prior then when I sat down for the service the lady responded like she had never heard of such a thing lol. The foot bath looked as if it hadn't been scrubbed in months, why i stayed and suffered through it is beyond me. The older technician was sweet but came off as VERY inexperienced. My toes looked like they had been painted by a 3rd grader. This place needs a hazmat crew to come through for a serious deep clean. I can't imagine they have a large following. A local runner recommended this place and I was excited to learn there was a nail salon in downtown Houston. I stopped by and learned they took walk-ins which was great. I requested a basic mani and pedi and was told no problem. The massaging chair during the pedicure was great. However, the pedi wasn't quite so great. A couple of nails were cut at an angle but I like the color. The woman who did the pedi was very nice. The manicure person was also nice, but less than 24 hours later, I already have three chipped nails and my meetings haven't even started. Looks like I will be visiting CVS to buy some nail polish and doing my own nails unfortunately. Front desk person was welcoming and helpful. This is located in the tunnels under Houston. read more

I had my eyebrows threaded for $10. She was pretty good with it. They were very accommodating. (Extra star). Good downtown location.

Made a last minute threading appointment and they had me in a chair within 10 minutes of me calling. Got my eyebrows and upper lip threaded which I actually haven't done in awhile because of the pain but it was the cheaper option between threading and waxing. They exceeded my expectations since the salon is in the downtown tunnels and I feel as if they're more meant for convenience rather than quality. Will definitely be coming back! read more

Really wish I would have checked you out on this one. I used Google maps to search for the closest nail salon with decent reviews, and needless to say with my one star rating I was very disappointed. First of all when I walked in it's a very small crowded space where they've managed to cram in a hair salon, what looks like waxing stations, plus manicure and pedicure stations. The place felt and looked pretty cluttered, unorganized and dirty. I asked them to remove the gel tips I had on, which they took forever to do, and still didn't get them off. And you believe that they charged me $10 for the nail removal?! The nail technician said "oh I'm sorry it's just I can't get them off completely". I got a shellac manicure and pedicure and its a sloppy job on the manicure to say the least. The paint doesn't even cover the edge of the end of my nails and it's already chipping on two nails! They didn't even clean underneath my nails. So frustrating, especially since my total bill was $106 with a $3 tip for each of the two girls working on me. The woman that did my wash/dry/style was less than pleasant. I was in town for work and I usually treat myself to getting my hair done when I travel (I ended up here out of desperation after a bad experience at a different salon). She frequently just stopped mid wash and style to disappear. She indicated she had been at the salon since 2006, so I was shocked as I watched how unprofessionally she handled my hair. I told her I wanted volume and yet she hadn't applied any product at the root, just a bit of cream to the ends before starting to dry it. I also requested she consider a product that would help tame the frizz in the humidity. She complained the whole time about how my hair was "real curly", while she pawed at it and randomly checked the names of her various products. I was pretty disgusted at the cleanliness of the salon as a whole (hair in brushes, on the floor). My hair does not look great and it was a less than decent experience. I came to Behold the Beauty for the first time ever today in the late afternoon while taking a break from work. I had my hair flat ironed by an African-American woman by the name of Renise. She said she has worked here for about a year and a half. She wasn't really chatty, but that was fine with me since I preferred to play with my smartphone. I have long curly hair, and it took her about 20 minutes to complete. She used the Babyliss Nano Titanium straightening iron and sprayed some thermal protectant in my hair. She was gentle for the most part. I hate when stylists are rough and yank your hair causing breakage. The result turned out pretty good. However, I was annoyed when she tried to overcharge me. She told the receptionist to charge me $30, but the price list and the web site specifically said it was $20. I told the receptionist I wasn't going to pay more than the avertised price, and I didn't. Despite this, I tipped her well. read more
