Been here twice and think this place is way better than other donuts shops in the North Jersey area. And I live near a very popular donut shop where people flock to like they're giving them away for free. Each donut is made fresh to order so they're nice, hot and doughy. Best part? This was a small place that served up donuts, gelato, and different kinds of coffee. The donuts were made to order and came out warm. The lady who assisted me was very helpful. I ordered half a dozen donuts ($10.50). My thoughts on each are below. The donuts as a whole were all cooked appropriately and sized fittingly too. Lemon Pucker - This was a donut with a lemon glaze and powdered sugar. The lemon glaze was not too sweet, which was delightful. This was probably my favorite one. Cinnabon - This was a special that consisted of all aspects of a cinnabon. It was too sweet as a lot of cinnamon sugar was part of this donut. Morgan's Sundae - There was a banana glaze, nuts, rainbow sprinkles, and chocolate chips on this donut. The banana glaze was new to me and it was enjoyable especially with the rest of the toppings. Destinee's Peanut Butter Choco Dream - This was made up of a chocolate glaze and peanut butter chips. The combination of chocolate and peanut butter chips, tough to beat that one, as this was delicious. S'more S'more - There was a chocolate glaze, mini marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, and graham cracker dustings. This was probably my least favorite. The marshmallows appeared to be stale, which made the donut as a whole not ideal. Logan's Oreo Explosion - Chocolate glaze, Oreo cookie crumbs, and chocolate chips occupied this donut. I first knew about Beignets when they were a vendor at a Yelp Elite event in 2016 - kudos to Yelp there! 2 years later, I finally got a chance to visit their shop in the main street of Denville. It's a cute, small shop with limited seating. It's not your typical doughnut shop where you see the selections of doughnuts in their pastry case. Instead, there are no doughnuts on display because they fry your doughnuts to order. Another thing to note, their doughnuts are on the smaller size compared to Krispy Kreme and Dunkin. I ordered their 12 dozen doughnuts with the following flavors: - Caramel bacon - Not bad - Boston Cream - my favorite - Strawberry fields - strawberry glaze with white chocolate chips. By far the best beignets I've had in Jersey. Very friendly and welcoming staff and their beignets are so damn good. Nice, airy, fluffy and crispy goodness covered in powdered sugar. I heard about this place and dropped in today to try it out (who doesn't love fresh donuts) Inside was really nice. Comfortable seating and staff was nice. It was really quiet for Saturday mid morning. I ordered three donuts; s'more s'more, powdered and cinnamon. All were excellent- especially powdered. They make them to order so they're super hot, fresh and soft. They're a little smaller than most but thicker. I think my favorite part of Beignets... okay, I have several favorite parts. Hold on. 1. The donuts come to you hot. Not made all at once, but rolling throughout the day. There is a decidedly different taste and experience when eating a hot donut vs. a cold one. Both are good - so take a few home and chill them! 2. The toppings don't overdo it. When hot, the chocolate seems kinda runny and skimpy, but as the donuts cool, it takes on some body and it's totally good. Each topping is well flavored and well proportioned so you don't have a sugary, gloppy mess that overwhelms the dough. 3. Several varieties of icing, several varieties of toppings, and you can mix and match to your heart's content, all for the same price. 4. That price, by the way. So reasonable. Gourmet donuts easily cost twice that at other, more well-known places. I will happily order a dozen donuts here for under $20 vs. the other places that are $2.50 on up per nut. 5. Friendly service, and very quick. Whew. That's 5 stars right there. I wish they had more than just the base donut. I wish there was a cake donut, and a chocolate base (mmm, chocolate). They have nice little seating space and a bathroom. My only real gripe is that they have the weirdest hours. They're closed BOTH Monday and Tuesday and they close by 2pm or 4pm the other days, which is pretty limiting and fully omits anyone who works regular job hours, from getting them during the week on their way home. This is a very cool little donut shop! On this rainy Saturday morning, the store was very crowded. There's not a lot of seating, but not a problem today since I was taking out. My wife and I had checked Yelp pictures prior to me going there, so we had a good idea of what we wanted. The specials change every day and I was a bit disappointed there was no cannoli donut, but there was still a great selection. I bought 4 for just over $7. Really not crazy expensive if you compare to DD and the quality is so much better here. The donuts are made fresh and served warm to you. I chose 2 cinnabun, 1 Boston cream, and 1 Birthday donut. So glad that this shop is near my job! I ordered 4 donuts (maple bacon, cinnabun, cannoli, and thin mint) and a petite toffee latte. I ate half of each as soon as I got them then the other halves after I got out of work. My taste ranking when they were still fresh, #1 being the best: 1. Cinnabun - The cinnamon brown sugar mix on top just made the entire donut melt in your mouth! Delicious. 2. Thin mint - I love thin mints and mint chocolate ANYTHING, so this was a no brainer for me. According to the website, this donut is actually topped with crushed Girl Scout thin mint cookies which gave it a great texture. 3. Cannoli - This one has a lot going on between the chocolate glaze, cannoli cream, and mini chocolate chips which tasted a bit too overwhelming for me on a donut, but the cannoli cream was excellent. 4. Maple bacon - The bacon bits on top were on the thicker side and difficult to chew. My taste ranking AFTER I got out of work, #1 being the best: 1. Thin mint - The crushed thin mint cookies were still as crunchy as they were earlier in the day. Loved it! I saved this donut for my last bite. 2. Cinnabun - Even with the cinnamon brown sugar mix solidified, it still tasted like a delicious glaze. 3. Maple bacon - I was left with smaller bacon bits in the afternoon because I ate all the thick and chewy ones in the morning. The smaller ones tasted much better! 4. Cannoli - Once the cream solidified, it tasted too much like straight sugar. Nevertheless, still a good donut choice. I'm sure it would've tasted better if it was microwaved for a few seconds. I'm sure all the donuts would've tasted better in the afternoon if I was patient enough to wait until I got home to microwave them, but being the fatty that I am, I couldn't help myself lol. Beignets makes some of the best beignets and doughnuts that I have had on the East Coast. As someone who loves and eats doughnuts regularly, this is a pretty big compliment. Over the summer I came here more than a few times with my boyfriend for pre-church doughnuts. We tried so many of the flavors, but overall my favorite was the Boston cream. It's such a unique spot and the fact that you can watch them make your mini doughnuts is so fun! The concept sounds amazing - Freshly fried donuts with your choice of toppings made to order - how can it get better than that? Unfortunately, not so much. I ordered a half dozen to go and watched as the two young ladies behind the counter made the donuts. There is a machine that drops the donut shaped dough into the fryer and as soon as they come out the full assortment of toppings are right there to assemble the order. My order included 2 Boston Creme, 2 Chocolate topped, 1 Nico's delight and 1 lemon pucker. All the donuts were uniformly the same size. The Boston creme isn't a traditional one - they top the donut with chocolate and put a dollup of thick creme on top in the center hole. I prefer a creme filled center surrounded by donut. The heat from them coming out of the fryer and placed directly inside the box caused all the toppings to melt and get absorbed by the donuts. The chocolate topped donuts weren't really topped any longer and more a slightly chocolate colored donut. Also all the steam made the all a bit mushy when I opened the box about an hour later. If you are going to eat them immediately you may have better luck - I would imagine that the name sake beignets eaten as soon as they come out will be delicious, but for many of the traditional varieties of donuts that are taken to go will most like have you opening the box scratching your head wondering what went wrong here. I love the concept and the service was great and friendly. Perhaps with some tweaks like making some donuts and allowing them to cool a bit before putting on certain toppings, especially to go, would have better results. read more
