We ordered delivery through one of the delivery apps. Order was neatly packed and well organized. I ordered the chicken laffa sandwich. It traveled well. I was the last to eat, so I was surprised that it was still warm and not soggy. Packaging was executed very well for delivery. The shawarma had juicy and crispy pieces. Nicely seasoned. The wrap also had tomatoes and I believe pickled turnips. Turnips were pretty acidic and salty which made them poignant on their own; however, they were excellent in the sandwich as they provided a perfect compliment to the savory meat. I think the laffa was lightly fried and pressed which made it very sturdy. It great introduction to Egyptian food for those who enjoy burritos. I also sampled the falafel, the hummus, and the babaghanoush. I enjoyed the falafel and the babaghanoush the most out of those three. Falafel was crispy without being dry. Tried Abu Zayn for the first time and the food was really good. I ordered the beef shawarma bowl, which was flavorful, well portioned, and something I'd definitely order again. I also tried Laziza pineapple for the first time and really enjoyed it. I believe I briefly met the owner and he was very friendly and checked in to see how my meal was, which I appreciated. The dine-in experience itself wasn't my favorite though. The restaurant is extremely small, and I ended up seated by the door so it got cold every time it opened (which was often since they're busy). There was also a large reservation while I was there that made the space pretty loud and hectic. The person running the front also came off a bit rude. When I ordered the Laziza, I was told to grab it myself, which would have been fine, but the bottle needed an opener that I didn't have--so I had to go back again to get one. Not a huge deal, but it felt a little awkward. Overall: great food, but because of the tight space and the service experience I'd probably stick to takeout next time instead of dining in. This place is very busy and the staff appeared to be overwhelmed, however their costumer service remained the same. I had ordered the beef shawarma in a pita but I mistakenly got the chicken. I regret not sticking with the chicken shawarma. Pieces of the beef were burnt and it was very dry. The chicken was flavorful and tender. The guys here are the best. I called the night before to place a pick up order for the following day and asked if I could pick up the food at noon, even though they only open at noon and they said no problem. The food was ready right on time, hot and delicious. The place itself is small and you order at the counter, but they have tables so you can dine in. We tried the lamb kebab pita and mixed shawarma bowl along with pita and hummus (thick and you could taste the garlic). The lamb kebab pita was small, but packed to the brim and the chunks of lamb were perfect. We liked the spicy pickled veggies it came with too. The mixed shawarma bowl was massive (great value for $18) and went really with the abu zayn sauce (we also liked the tahini). Each dish had a ton of flavor, a bit heavy on the black pepper but I liked it. The pita has a nice texture and I would try the babaghanoush next time instead of the hummus. I decided to stay and have my food in the restaurant. Great food! The flavor profiles were amazing. I ordered the shish tawook platter and I loved it. The rice was very fragrant you could taste all of the spices and herbs used. The caramelized onions were the perfect touch. The chicken chunks were flavored well and was not dried out. My platter did not come with the smoky grilled tomato that is included in the description for the meal. I ordered my platter with the garlic sauce and the hot sauce. They sauces were good. I noticed that two men who came in after me who both also ordered chicken platters and decided to dine in were given much larger portions of salad. It would be nice to see more consistency in the side salads that are provided. In looking at the restaurant menu online for delivery I see that you have an option for which small salad you can select. I would have chosen a different small salad if I was aware there were options. The salad provided was good but the dressing was very acidic and the salad was swimming in the dressing. The bottom half of the salad container was full of dressing. It also would have been nice to know that I had the option to add on pita for an extra dollar. I also ordered the Arabic tea. I liked it a lot and it was sweetened perfectly. I hope to try the soups next time. I will return again and definitely recommend this restaurant to others. read more

Delicious dinner tonight at Abu Zayn Egyptian restaurant on Merrick Road just off of Park Avenue. I had the beef kofta platter. The beef was well seasoned, and had a great grill flavor. Served over a generous portion of rice with caramelized onions on top and a choice of sauce (I chose the garlic white sauce) and it came with a small side of an eggplant salad. The guy behind the counter was very friendly, and helped me order. If you're unfamiliar with Egyptian food, don't hesitate to order. Most of the dishes are seasoned, but aren't spicy, and the friendly staff will help you order. Although the restaurant is small and casual, (you order at the counter) they've tried to give it a nice ambience, with scenic murals on the walls, and what sounded like Egyptian music. There are only a handful of small tables, however, so while it was pretty empty when I got there around 5:45 on a Friday evening, I'm not sure if it fills up at busier times. read more
