NEW LOCATION CLOSE TO LIBRARY I was just there today at the Crossroads Mall to get my vehicle tabs renewed. Now I have 2020 tabular vision! This office in the last few years has been located practically right next door to the Crossroads Library Connection in the main mall building. Previously it was located in the mall annex that is immediately west of the Crossroads theater. VEHICULAR AND VASCULAR IN AND OUT This office only does automotive and boat registration, vehicular and vascular transfers, and annual tabs. Drivers licenses are done at another office. You take a number at the ticket window and then you wait for your number to be called. Just look up at the electronic readerboard to see if your (green or white) number is about to be called. I did not have to wait very long as it was not very busy today. My only minor gripe is that when they do call your number, they should tell you which window to go to (there are seven windows). NOT AS CROWDED AS IT USED TO BE In later years, it has not taken long to wait for my number to be called. But seemingly not long ago, I would have to wait several minutes in a crowded waiting room. This is probably because more and more people are reupping their tabs online nowadays. But to me it is no big deal as I would just simply do a crossword puzzle, or be glued to this phone while waiting. REUPPING UPSIDE AND DOWNSIDE Also, nowadays, vehicle tabs can expire on any day of the month, not just at the end of the month. The downside is your tabs could be expired even though it's not the end of the month yet! So pay close attention to the expiration date on your registration! The upside is that the office does not get as crowded at the end of the month. CROSSROADS CONVENIENCE VS PASSWORD PURGATORY In 10 years or so, this office may no longer be here as online registration and re-upping of tabs at www.dol.wa.gov (esp. with "License Express" = LX) is the way to go for the Millennial masses. LX does have several advantages and conveniences. But some of us Baby Boomers are techno-boobs who don't like to fart around with the pay cut of online registration, especially having to dick around with passwords (which is horse and buggy security technology!). But if you don't use LX, you don't need no stinking password! (but I did not know that until just now.) Instead, you only need your license plate number, last name, and a credit card. But out of lifelong habit, it's just easier for me to come here since I live nearby. But if the DOL gets an app (WHAT!? NO APP?!) and uses TouchID or FaceID, I might re-up my mobile tabs on my mobile device next time! (more on that later after I do a little rambling here) AH YES, THEM WERE THE BAD OL' DAYS! Sometimes things do get better instead of worse (RipleysBelieveItOrNot!). Since the 1970s, Washington has had month stickers as well as year stickers to stick to our license plates, reflecting year around re-upping of tabs. Therefore, people waiting to re-up their tabs were spread out throughout the year, instead of only in January, as it used to be up until the early 70s. That's right, car tab re-upping used to be an annual nightmare of a wait! I'm not sure about postal re-upping of tabs, but there was certainly no online re-upping of tabs available back then. 60 SOMETHING REVIVED W/60'S SPIRIT John Houseman used to do commercials on TV during the 1980s, saying "in my day, we did things the old-fashioned way, we EARNED it!" He also played a stuffy old law professor in the 1973 movie and TV series "The Paper Chase". This was the antithesis of the Spirit of the 60s. Young people of the time, such as myself, hated such old-fashioned attitudes. Yet here I am, in my 60s, not in my teens anymore, coming across like an old fogey (how pharisaical)! OK WA DOL, get an app, LOSE THE PASSWORDS, and get TouchID (or FaceID), so that next year I can relax at home while re-upping with LX. read more

Came to this location on March 30, 2020 to gift my vehicle to a family member. The people who work here are very passive aggressive, not friendly, and look miserable. The senior white women who handles check ins definitely looked like she didn't want to be there. I'm pretty sure greeting customers and thanking them are part of your job description. Big ginger woman with glasses loved feeling privileged and entitled with her passive aggressive comments. Maybe she needed to feel good about herself? I came in to transfer the registration on my car from California to Washington, and while the wait was a bit long (showed up at 3:30, had my number called at 4:30), the service after that was fast and easy. I never write a review, but I had to for like the first time in my life. Lady who gave me the ticket to wait was very sweet and nice. Waited for few minutes and this happens. Worst service. Helper is aggressive and rude. I understand the COVID-19 frustration but I never felt such insult in my life. I have been calling and coming here several times since the beginning of this year because documents that they need from me is constantly changing. From 1 to 2 to, like, 5 now. Incorrigible Communication, or lack of training? Cuts me off while I'm trying to ask a question and explain my situation, and yells "don't b frustrated it's not our fault or yours." Tells me to get a doc from other institute but claims that she doesn't know how to do it. (Whole time she shows aggressive behavior and wording.) Tried to ease the mood but tells me to stop complaining. I tried to joke right before I leave because I didn't want this experience to end in such a shitshow saying "oh then maybe I should call my mom" but she yells back "Oh yea go complain and cry to your mom." Like.. WHAT? even though I provided the word 'mom' in the first place, but this insult goes straight to myself and my family. This place was super fast and convenient for getting 2019 car registration (aka a new sticker). The environment is highly functional and all about moving high volumes of people through. When you arrive, grab a ticket from behind the front desk and get ready to show any paperwork you brought in (in this case, last year's registration, which was a huge help in expedience). The woman who called my number was very fast and pleasant. Plus, on Tuesday at 10 am, they are very dead so I waited less than a minute before I was seen by someone. Overall, I was immensely grateful that they provide this as a service and I didn't need to endure the insanity of the MVA. In fact, this year's registration was a bit less money than last year's. Yes, they charge 3% for using your credit card, but, as they are a small business, I doubt they're making any money off that. Call it a fee of convenience... and convenient it is! read more

Super friendly, reasonably fast, and very helpful - if only they were open on Saturdays. One question for the manager: why don't you answer your phones? The clerk at Kirkland Automobile License said that you wouldn't answer and only allow voicemail - which is fine - but shouldn't the voicemail tell you that no one will pick up the phones? Wow, is everything a tad bit higher quality in Bellevue? For the first time, I didn't have to encounter bitchy/rude government employees that are too overweight to get up out of their rolling chairs to want to help anybody because they get paid regardless of how poor their performance is since they are protected by the government to not loose their decent paying jobs that exists from hardworking tax payers. This location is in the Crossroads Mall so plenty of parking. The wait wasn't too long either and even if there's a wait, plenty of places to walk around to grab a coffee or something since there's civilization around here. If you want to work with the largest pile of idiots, this is the place for you. After getting passed around to multiple people and wasting an hour and half of my time there trying to get a new title for my car, they did nothing for me. They had the record that the car had been paid off, but the bank had not released the car to me and had gone out of business. They told me I could not get a title without the bank release. Hey idiot, they bank is out of business, how am I supposed to do that? I basically ended it telling them how worthless they are and the I would burn my car to the ground when I moved out of state and they could get the VIN off the smoldering pile of car and go after the bank that is out of business for it. Avoid these morons at all costs. I am so glad I am moving out of this worthless state. read more

I renewed my tabs online a couple of weeks ago and have been delayed in picking them up from Bel-Red due to the coronavirus. I finally stopped by today, but they are closed for the week in order to protect their staff. I emailed them and they responded within an hour and offered to mail them. I was so happily surprised by their responsiveness and accommodation, especially given everything that is going on right now. Good job taking care of your customers and community! read more

Sandy was amazing! I walked in with 3 complicated legal paperwork messes and walked out with 3 clear titles. I showed up a little before they opened at 9 and queued up with about 5 other people. I barely got to sit down before my number was called! The new location is beautiful and so much less oppressive than the old. I don't know what to say, I came in at 12:15, I left at 12:35. Came in on a Wednesday rainy noon in the end of January to get a quick title. Needless to say, it was quick! So there are about 8 ish windows (I forgot, sorry) and the tellers are super nice. You get a little ticket number right when you walk in. And sit down and wait for a bit. The auto-license place is right outside of the mall entrance, so I feel like you definitely can knock two birds with one stone (shopping afterwards etc). Very pleasant experience with the lady, she found out what my problem was with trying to get the quick title, fixed it, and gave me my documents. If I ever have tabs to renew or any documents I have to deal with with the DOL, then I'll definitely come by here. Amazing service. (Though I think they have a $12 service fee for things, but with how quick they do it, it's 100% worth it.) read more

The old place was tiny and cramped, and the waits seemed long. The new place, in the old indoor car-racing space a few doors down from Uncle's and the library on the east side of the mall (across from Stone Gardens) is much bigger, lighter and brighter, and the wait was MUCH shorter. I put off dealing with my tabs in a timely manner (oops) and luckily, did not get in trouble for it. I walked in, pulled number C7 and thought that meant I was going to waste a million hours waiting, but they buzzed through the four people in front of me in about 4 minutes. The gal who gave me my new license plates was friendly and explained everything on the renewal form (why is it so cheap? I wish it was higher so that the ferries and other transport options were better funded... damn you, Tim Eyman!) I gave her my check, she got my phone number, and boom, we were done. I went out into the parking lot, changed my tags, and brought the old ones inside (they will recycle them for you and that way you're sure they won't be used in a crime). It was so easy I was sorry I'd left it past the due date and then made myself worry about getting pulled because I didn't feel like facing the hassle. Next year, I'll do it on time. read more

Navigating DOL rules, paperwork, and convoluted regulations on the internet is about as fun as taking a stroll through Death Valley. Thankfully, Bel-Red Auto License showed up, like a helicopter of awesome flown by unicorns, to whisk me away. Improbable? I will explain. I moved from Washington to California. One day I decided, hey, I miss Seattle so I am going to buy a Subaru in Los Angeles. Bonus win, it's not a German car manufactured in Mexico or Estonia so thieves will totally ignore it. #score Sadly, however, I realized at the end of the transaction, I never got my title from WA once I paid my loan. And so began the long march in the desert. I'm in another state with a car I can barely prove I actually own, let alone sell. So, uh, time for Google? Well, after reviewing about six of the eleventybillion results, I decided, "this sucks." Then I decided to call Bel-Red because their website looked pretty nice. From the moment they answered the phone to the point where I got my FedEx'd title, my experience was wonderful. Long story short, I sent them a notarized form via FedEx with a return envelope and check. In less than 48 hours, I had my replacement title in hand. Along the way, the good people here dealt with my silly phone calls, such as "uh, I guessed on what I owed you and sent you the right amount, right? I am totally not shady, I promise." They were always polite, helpful, and emailed me once everything was done. Overall, they are paperwork ninjas. P.S. I gladly invite anyone complaining about a DOL/DMV to visit the Sunny state of California. If you move here *and* you are lucky, you get a driving test in English! The wait actually moved fairly quickly, but as most DOLs the employees had that kind of "burnt out" attitude. This location serves its purpose though. read more

I went here to get a title transferred to me AND get plates. This was the quickest and easiest experience at a government office I've EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! No idea why there are complaints... Things you need to know before you go: 1) Search online for exactly what paperwork you need and have them READY when you're there. 2) This place is a privately run auto license place so there is a $12 additional charge. (It says that on their website. But I believe it's worth it to not have to wait in line and then wait longer for everything to come in the mail.) 3) There are fees for debit and credit card usage. I came here at 3:30PM on Wednesday and there was ONE person in front of me to get a ticket and NO ONE in front of my at the actual desk. Counter #6, you are amazing for getting me out of there in less than 15 minutes! I had all my paperwork filled out and ready and handed it all to her. She processed everything, gave me my new registration AND my new plates after I paid. At the end and let me know my new title was coming in the mail. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE and SPEED! read more

For tabs, i ALWAYS do it online. because picking up is way faster than waiting in line to do tabs at the DOL. but when it comes to transferring a title..... it is a different story. I went in there and was on my way in maybe like 10 minutes? everything was swift and smooth. The clerk there was very courteous and non-pissy. (like some people you'd see at typical DOLs...) here's a tip for you. - gather everything. Infos. Documents. everything you need from the get-go. if you aren't sure. just give them a call or email them. THEN go to the DOL. oh and doing tabs online is a must too. unless you want to be waiting in line. HA read more

Registered a wrong car to my name which caused me to get pulled over. Thankfully the officer is nice enough to ask me redo the process. When I went back to this facility they asked me to come back later due to their headquarter or whatever is closed. So I went here for the third time, not to mention that I wasted nearly 4 hours not including gas and everything. They asked me to pay extra according to price difference of the two cars, fine, but the extra amount simply isn't correct due to the late penalty. I have to wait for them to refund we with a check. Glad I finally got my registration. The service is impressively slow. Just go to DMV, there is no difference. read more

I bought a car in Washington in 2014. I moved to California in 2016 and titled my car there. I moved back to Washington in 2017, but the California title had a mistake on it (odometer read ten times more than actual mileage). Although I was frustrated, David was calm and nice and friendly through our entire exchange. I think when people say the experience at the DMV is bad, they might be projecting. He was helpful and friendly and it made it an okay experience for me. In reality, licensing and titling is just frustrating. Cars in general are stressful. It's the DOL.. there's nothing much to rave about... Unless you do enjoy going to the DOL..... I went to pick up my tabs because I purchased them online, and the wait line was relatively short. The only thing I would suggest is to make a separate and more noticeable queue for those who purchased tabs online. It'll save the hassle of figuring out if you need to take a ticket. Plus it'll advertise to purchase tabs online and pick them up here when convenient. A win for the customer, win for the DOL, and of course win for those who try to find parking! These people do not do their jobs. This place is never open. I have come in FIVE TIMES over the past week and there's always some excuse for why they're not open. Several days it was "inclement weather" (there was like an inch of snow). Then for the rest of the week it was "covid cleaning" (whatever the heck that means besides wiping down surfaces with bleach -- clearly some outstanding process that takes 3 days, with no one inside the office). And then of course now it's New Years, which I'm thinking is gonna be about a 2 week vacation. Absolutely disgraceful and unacceptable. Do these people collect tax dollars to sit at home? I DID NOT appreciate the customer I received from here at all. The lady that helped me had dark hair and was pretty young. She was speaking to me in a patronizing tone. She is rude and I didn't feel welcomed or treated with respect as a customer while I was there. She made it seem as though I was a bother to her. The customer comes first. Her customer service is VERY BAD. She was telling me that my registration form had tabs attached to the top and that we had taken them off. That was not true. She wouldn't believe me because she was trying to make it seem as though I had purposely done that. Why would I come in and repay for a license tab that I already have?? She's stupid. I told her that there was a green slip attached to the top of the form. All she said was okay, and looked at me and pushed her chair back. She didn't help. The real issue was that I needed a new title. Not a tab. She is very disrespectful and patronizing, SHE SHOULD BE FIRED FOR HER "WORK". Have a nice day :) read more

Went in today to transfer title to a car I purchased. Took a green ticket. Waited an hour while many who arrived after me were helped. They had white tickets After an hour I was the second green ticket in line. I asked why that was. I was told that they handle all renewals (white tickets) before green tickets. What this meant was that I could have been there forever if a steady stream of renewals came in. I'll give three stars for renewals but if you have a transfer go elsewhere. I went to Alpine Title in Issaquah and it took 20 minutes because they work on an first come/first serve basis. read more

Used them last year to get my tabs and had a great experience. This year, I called them about renewing my tabs and they were very helpful on the phone - but when I tried calling back to follow up, they'd changed the phone system so it's harder to get through. I tried using the contact form on their website and I didn't see a response, so then I tried again using the email address on their website. I got a reply back almost instantaneously - it turned out that the reply from their contact form ended up in my spam folder. Seems like they are really busy which has made contacting them a little challenging, but they are still super helpful. If you are reading this and having trouble getting in touch, I recommend trying their email address. read more

Frustrating when 7 windows are open and there is 1 person working with a customer and 2 other workers feel the need to come to the rescue and "help" out their coworker which was not really helping but rather just yapping about what they think....took 3 people to tell an older man where the good2go place was located. They stood there being nosy and helping 1 customer while neglecting others waiting. When it was my turn goodness I could hardly understand what she was saying her English was so broken. I left there with nothing accomplished. She was short, no eye contact and worked like a robot. I am not mad just happy I don't work with them. They all look miserable! Murna is awesome. I came in today with my Mother to transfer ownership of my SUV, I didn't know what I needed, because I had, had a stroke. She was patient, very understanding and answered all of my questions. She gave me printouts of what I needed to bring in with me when I come in again. Before I had a stroke, I ran my own business. I appreciate great customer service. Everyone from the lady who gave me my number, to the Asian lady that usually helps me, is wonderful!
