I love breakfast food and this restaurant is my favorite place to go. Great food, great flavors, fair prices, and lots of food for the money. You place your order at the counter just inside the doorway. Behind the cashier you will see the entire kitchen, the owner, and employees. Every time I've visited the owner is always present and friendly. There is ample room for eating inside as well as outside. The interior is clean as well as the bathroom. The door to the one unisex bathroom is directly in front of the counter where you order. The bathroom, cashier, kitchen are all in direct line of site. The bottom of the bathroom door has a 1 inch gap. Those ordering can hear and smell your experience in the loo. This is my only critical point. Belcross is an unassuming side of the road family restaurant with amazing prices and surprisingly great breakfasts and sandwiches. I wouldn't want to forget to mention the fabulous oatmeal raisin cookies which are nearly an inch thick (and they freeze well.) You order your food at the counter and you can take out or they can bring it to your table(I didn't count exactly but there's about eight or 10 tables there). All of the employees are very friendly and helpful. I had shredded ham and scrambled eggs on a large buttermilk biscuit. We also had eggs and sausage on a biscuit. One of their specialties is a sweet potato biscuit, which is fabulous. Their biscuits are as good or better than anywhere within an hour drive( so far). On another occasion, we visited for lunch. The turkey wrap and the BLT were top-notch. The ingredients are absolutely fresh. I was waiting for my mother in laws surgery to be completed and needed something close by - it was barely 7am.. Belcross it was. I was amazed. I actually pushed the gravy aside enough to "open up this biscuit" and get a good look at it. It was layered and steamy. Absolutely the most delicious biscuit I've ever had in my life. Admittedly, I was completely thrown off by the square shape and paper plates but literally did not give it a second thought after 1 bite. 1mo later I'm back checking in on my mother in law but not without a Belcross visit. This time I had to bring my husband... apparently their store was famous for their biscuits (trust me, I've heard the war stories aplenty) back before 2008 in Currituck, but unfortunately just couldn't make it out of the trenches from the crash. You see, our kids knew about the bakery long before my wife and I did... It's just down the road from the Country High School so the kids have been enjoying Belcross for quite some time... They open at 6 am and close after lunch so you when you do get there, expect there to be plenty folks waiting on some of the best country cooking in the county and probably surrounding counties. Just walk in and smell the yeast rolls, breakfast items, cinnamon rolls... Their prices are just as country as the food, in other words, more food for less cost. They have superb baked goods as you can imagine, sticky cinnamon, sticky pecan, blueberry biscuits, of course, regular biscuits, fresh off the griddle eggs, pork products, including ham slices, sausage patties and bacon all cooked to perfection. The sandwich menu is not all fancy with stuff put together to just make you wonder what you ordered but what they really are is what you or your momma would have made if you had the time... Staff took my order while in line which was great and me thinking my order will be ready when I finally reach the checkout, but much to my chagrin that was not the case. Reaching the checkout meant you hand the staff your order that was previously taken only to find out they no longer have what you ordered available! Totally confused as to why they took my order when the items I chose were not available? If they had announced it to those of us in line I suspect most of us would have left. This gem is a small local bakery and breakfast place located in what they call, the Inner Banks. I came in to get some pastries for the family breakfast. Ordered eight mixed flavored ones like basic raisen cinnamon, sweet pecan, Apple tart to an unusual sweet potato pastry. As you can see from the pictures, the buns were humongous! I didn't realize the size until they brought me the box that weighed a ton. Four buns would have sufficed but they were DELICIOUS! So, they didn't last long. This is our first time trying it and it is amazing. Sausage and gravy was excellent I got the Purdy biscuit on sweet potato bread it was amazing. We also got the hashbrowns casserole and it tasted so good. We also got cinnamon bun with icing and it is a 1000 times better then Cinabun..... all the food was made fresh & the prices are great. This is one of those places you'd never discover without using Yelp. We stopped on our way out of the Outer Banks. Perfect little sandwich shop with delicious breakfast sandwiches. The sweet potato biscuits were the best biscuits I've ever had! Had a real local feel, as everyone seemed to know each other. We ate in, at the tables (decent amount of indoor seating) and the line grew almost out the door. Baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, eggs bacon and toast. VERY friendly. Just moved south of here about 15 minutes and my neighbor's mentioned it. And WOW was it a great mention! Very comfortable setting and polite and kind staff. I'm a New Yorker and I think it gets lost that almost all of our restaurants diners and grocery stores our mom and pop shops. And this place made me have the feeling of community. Just remember folks New York isn't what CNN fox nbc abc cbs ESPN bbc bet mtv vh1 hgtv HBO tnt tbs networks portray it to be. And also the south isn't the movie deliverance.
