I had a leak in my upstairs bathroom that caused damage to the bathroom and downstairs ceiling. The ceiling needed to be repaired, shower torn out along with the flooring and wallpaper. Belfor hired for restoration in April 2024.. May - July 2024 it took paint contractors to remove wallpaper, repair the drywall and paint. 1 of the 2 contractors likely doing drugs in my bathroom based on length of time in bathroom. Yelled back and forth to each other while I was working from home and didn't show up several times. There were issues with the paint that we advised Belfor of in July 2024. Tile installation began for bathroom floor and shower in June 2024, didn't show up a few times when he was supposed to, installed tile with chips that he tried to repair with resin, ended up replacing that tile and job finally finished in September. Shower door installed early September 2024, told Belfor shower pan had squeak in it (sign of poor installation), they tried putting foam below the shower pan. Then there was no work done for weeks, notified Belfor end of October, November 2024 plumbers came to address shower pan issue. Paint issues fixed in December 2024 (5 months after Belfor notified of issues). Advised Belfor December 2024 of issues with grout in shower, different tile contractor came that month, said there was several issues with tile. January 2025 water pooling outside of shower then shower door could not be closed. Ended up shower and all the tile had to be taken out along with about 1/2 of the tile on the floor. The Belfor project manager at that time started being responsive after we complained in January. From January until last week, tile completed then when glass contractors, Century Glass, tried to reinstall the shower glass they cracked tile like 3 times, tile guy had to come back and fix. Then from end of February until now, glass contractor tried over and over again to fix a leak from where glass meets the tile. Long story short, Belfor was the general contractor on this job, uses sub-par subcontractors. This job should have taken about 6 weeks, and it took over a year. New management, Cody, came into Belfor in February. He did assist and agreed to make adjustments to the invoice due to the delay. Neil became the project manager in late February, he was on top of everything and empathized that we were frustrated. He would call before a contractor came out (in the past we had them show up some times with no notice) and then would call after the contractor came to ensure work was done. If all project managers at Belfor took ownership of the jobs like Neil does, and Belfor used better subcontractors, there would probably 5 star reviews. One year two months since my fire. Not one thing has gone right with this build. If you do get sweet talked into letting this company (that is nothing but a national name) take care of your restoration work make sure you have a completion date in your contract. Not just an estimated time of completion. Please make sure that your contract states there will be a competent builder on site while all work is being done. Get lots and lots and lots of second opinions! It's a beautiful Tuesday and no one showed up to do any work on my house again. Can't get anyone to answer their phone. Make sure you get multiple quotes always. -A guy named Randy came to my house and inspected my crawl space as the garbage disposal is leaking under the house and I need it cleaned before a plumber can work on it. Luckily, I got other quotes too and didn't just hire this company immediately. I had to complain after a week to get a quote that was promised days before. I called this company because I got a quote for 3.5K and thought it seemed pricey. Randy estimated me just shy of 19K!!! That's just insulting.. I really feel sorry for anyone who actually got scammed into hiring Belfor that's why I made a point to write this review. Seems like they've seriously ruined some people's lives and I got a small taste of that. read more

BELFOR = the rule of threes. 3 times as long to get work done and 3 times as expensive. Choosing BELFOR to rebuild my house was one of the worst decisions of my adult life. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY and question other reviews. They have excuses for everything. There is absolutely no reason they charge as much as they do. Think "rape your insurance policy" do not think value when you consider this company. Poor communication, poor service and many, many of my items were removed and totally unaccounted for. basically, they can steal anything they wish and then say, "oh...it must have had fire damage." or they say that items were "lost in the vault." Our water heater flooded the closet it's in so we called Belfor. Not only did we end up having to call most of the plumbers ourselves, but the incompetence of the Belfor staff extended what should have been a 3 day project to over 2.5 weeks without water. We also had to find our own contractors and tile guys to help us finish the job. They were 10x worse with billing. We ended up being billed by the subcontractors directly and Belfortried to double charge us for the same work. We ended up in a months long battle with them as they refused to provide a detailed billing to show what we were being charged for. This company is shady and not worth it. read more

UPDATE!!! And it never ends...29 months after work completed: Purchased a new microwave oven. Installer advises existing microwave (re-installed by Belfor after "restoration") was installed with only one of the TWO required mounts! The doggone thing could have come out of the wall! I am sure there will be more and I will be sure to keep this review updated. 18 months since completion of work: "We're just out here cleaning up Belfor's messes." Quote from my plumber who just left. Here we go again. I called a trusted plumber for what I thought were some little fixes and tweaks in my master bath: Shower faucet: Less than 1/8th inch of movement in the handle between hot and freezing cold. Tub faucet: Hard to turn off...keeps dripping. When the plumber opened up the face plate on the shower faucet, he found: * Tile installed OVER the shut-offs. Plumber needed to drill out the tile to shut off the valve and do the work. * That only one screw was used to hold the face plate on, allowing water to get in behind the face plate. Excuse me....what was that? ALLOWING WATER TO GET BEHIND THE PLATE INTO THE WALL? ISN'T WATER IN MY WALLS WHAT STARTED ALL OF THIS? How can Belfor, a property restoration company, do ANYTHING that would allow water to get inside walls? Unbelievable. * No, the screw holes on the face plate and the existing cartridge did NOT match up but you get an adapter to make them line up, not "rig" it or do "less than" work! * The scald guards were left ON - this is for hotel and rental units, not homes. Positemp piece was left on the faucet. That piece doesn't even apply to this type of faucet. * Shower/Tub wall was reinstalled, tiled and is not level. This caused the problem with the bath faucet not laying flush against the wall. When the faucet is on, you can see the uneven gap. (See photos). Spacers, little, tiny o-ring-like spacers, would have helped the faucet's problematic shut-off. (See photo.) I do not see how to attach photos in this screen...hopefully in next screen. And I am sure there will be more Belfor foul-ups and short-cuts that I will find in the future. read more

Safe to say that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing in the Reno office. And it seems like the system is set up to wrangle the most money possible out of the customer. Everything is handled by phone, fax and email. Work is contracted out to subcontractors who don't live in the South Lake Tahoe area. The guy who wrote the estimate was short tempered. His subcontractor seemed incapable of keeping an appointment calendar. Easily identifiable problems were brushed aside, resulting in weeks of delay, duplication of services, contradictory estimates, over-billing etc. We were going to have Belfor perform the restoration work also, but after spending weeks sitting around waiting for people to show up, and then say they couldn't do the work because such and such had not been expected...nope. I am an understanding person, and can definitely understand that in their line of business, sh*t happens. The fact of the matter is that they made it right. This was a terrible company to work with!!!!!!!! I was recommended this company to do my restoration from water damage to my house. (I should have read reviews). Several friends from other states told me to use Belfor as they had great experiences with them in their states and said they had very professional dealings with them. Apparently Reno Nevada Belfor does not hold to the same standards of work and professionalism as other Belfor Companies. It took them over 8 months to fix water damage in kitchen Slate floor and family room carpet and ceiling (small area on ceiling). They only needed to remove the slate Toe Kicks on some walls to dry out areas, plus the drywall about a 4 inch area directly above the floors on the walls. They brought a flooring company in from Incline Village in Nevada to do carpeting. They were just as bad to work with as Belfor. Carpet company installed new carpet but did not put slate area in front of door back. They came back out and let them into house but did not supervise installation of slate. they ended up putting slate in 3 place in the house in front of doors. Two of the doors were in a totally different part of the house. They cut the carpet out to install slate infront of the doors. I only had 1 door that needed it. Carpet company and Belfor never apologized for the error. Now they had to tear out carpet in those rooms and replace. They said they would give me a discount on new carpet for those rooms. They finally agreed to replace at their expense. They put wrong size slate in and put appliances back without covering up holes they made in walls. We had to move the refrigerator and found the cut out walls and slate not replaced. They were done with restoration and wanted me to sign off on job. Thank god we found it before signing off. Fired Belfor!!!! Had to hire another company to fix all the mistakes they made. That took another 2 months. The Belfor supervisor on my job mysteriously was no longer with the company after I raised the damage to my carpet problems and the walls not repaired behind fridge. Also they sent my insurance company a revised bill for over $9,000.00 more in time and materials used. It was unbelievable!!! Terrible customer service and just horrible people to work with. This company was awful! I had a roof leak which initially only damaged the interior wall and insulation, it rained again and rather than trying to mitigate the damage, they showed up four hours later which left the hardwood floors damaged. They came and cut a huge hole in my wall removed all the insulation to dry it out, as well as cut a big hole in the floor. Then nothing, I didn't hear anything from them for a month. They finally came out to repair the hole in the wall, still no insulation and the temps are well below freezing. The floor, well that is going to have to be completed by someone other than Belfor, I wouldn't have these people work on my neighbors dog house let alone any real construction project. My carpet is soiled from their dirty shoes, and they broke a pot at the bottom of my stairs when they dropped a humidifier on it. read more

It is hard to rate a company that completely fails to meet its obligations under the contract. Donner Village HOA signed an agreement almost 2 years ago to fix the damage caused by the snow in Tahoe. 3 units in our complex we damaged and as of today, they have not completed the job. In July they removed the roofs of all 3 units and they are still not fixed and we are going into the winter season. Belfor has not project manage this project. They failed to provide adequate labor or failed to have material for the workers to use. They have ignored the homeowners and the only time we can speak to someone is when their Accounts Payable person wants a check. Finally, one of the homeowners is an elderly couple who are completely stressed out because of the failing of Belfor. They now have been living in a hotel room for 10 weeks and there is still no project plan to complete the work and will lucky if they can move back in by Xmas. This was the worst experience ever!! This was a water damage remodel. I can write a book about my experience and you would not believe it. Everything from painting the wrong rooms to cleaning harwood floors with oil to taking over ONE YEAR to complete the job. They use sub contractors that have no idea what they are suppose to do because the communication sucks. I would not let those guys work on my house again even if it was for free. We suffered major building damage with a water loss at Summit Estates. A single fire sprinkler head in the attic failed and flooded 10 Senior Living apartments. BELFOR responded immediately and worked well with our operations team restoring the apartments in record time. 10 were damaged, two quite severely. LaDonte Harper and Chris Nelson have busted their butts to work in every way possible to get the seniors back in their homes. I was at the Reno Lowe's Sunday morning at 8:00 when they opened for business. The first two customers through the door were LaDonte and Chris. Boy was I surprised to see Management of BELFOR with "boots on the ground" early on Sunday morning. Their service, communication, responsiveness, and incredible MVP service is something to behold! They have pushed $350,000 in repairs in a couple weeks. AMAZING! We've used other "green restoration" companies in the past... if I was you and you needed fire, water, or storm damage restoration.. call BELFOR. You be happy you did. I had a broken shower valve gush water between the walls of my master bedroom and shower, for who knows how long. My insurance company suggested Balfor in Reno to do the mold and water damage repair. I was entirely impressed with the group of workers they sent out to do the job. They were here for more than 3 weeks drying out and cleaning up the mess. As a small businessman who used to have employees, I wonder what kind of incentives they use to motivate their workers, because I have NEVER seen a group of people work as hard as they did working to clean up the mess. Very professional, courteous, they were willing to spend the time to talk to me to let me know the progress. This was the most miserable experience we've ever had with any company in Reno, by far. In January 2013, AAA claims person recommended Belfor. They promised the work would be done in a few weeks and they began like gangbusters, but within a couple of weeks they were AWOL and MIA constantly. Months past, we had to call them ever few weeks to find them, each time promising they will finish the job in short order. Meanwhile we didn't have our kitchen! It wasn't a big job, just fixing some sheet rock, a little pain, redoing the flooring, refinishing the cabinets and the counter tops. They wanted to replace cabinets but I saw no reason, only needed the fronts refinished except for 2 of them. That took a couple of months to refinish the cabinets, so we lived with no cabinets and no sink, and refrigerator in the living room the whole time. I wanted tile like we had, Belfor made us go through their vendors who tried to jack up the price on us. Belfor lied about how much the tile would cost wanting us to pay for overruns. I shopped around and found the same tile at less than 1/4 the price. They retaliated by doing a change order and taking flooring about the scope of work. Same problem with the flooring. When they finally installed the cabinets they didn't put them in the right order. refused to listen and put one cabinet over the A/C vent and Jerry-rigged the pipe under the kitchen sink to make it look right--I'm serious. I made them switch cabinets around and that's when I discovered all this and took pictures. We're on our own doing the flooring and finally in AUGUST I demanded they return and put the refrigerator back and put the doors on the cabinets-- I gratefully signed off just to get them out of our house. Big mistake. We found two chips in our refrigerator door--it was only a few months old before the flood. The panel facing on one cabinet end has warped, the trim doesn't match and they left holes underneath. Now the worst part, Belfor sent us a bill in August for $864 that said "final billing 100% complete." I thought perhaps the insurance company had done a pay through to Belfor, but it seemed odd so I checked with Belfor by calling them and they confirmed that was all I owed. Then Oct 15th I got home to a voice mail stating I owed them over $6k that if I didn't pay it by tomorrow they would put a lean on my house! I call them back and their accounts payable person confirms that's her intention. I called AAA insurance which called them and got the same story. They did put the LIEN on our house that night, after no notice previous, after I had asked and they confirmed IN WRITING THAT the contract was paid in full back in August. As it turns out their bookkeeper must be incompetent for giving me the paper trail she did. They didn't even bill for some things until way after the work was done. It did turn out that AAA had not paid them the full amount and they hadn't bothered to notice AAA that they hadn't done all the work they had originally proposed. I never did get to the bottom of the whole thing AAA did finally pay them off and they did finally take the lien off our house. At one point there was a nasty yelling match in their office with their manager Paul Gardner when I demanding the release the lien after AAA cut a final check and Gardner indignantly asking what idiot would think that $864 was paid in full. My girlfriend owns an upstairs condo, and recently became aware that her hot water heater was leaking, as the owners of the downstairs unit informed us their ceiling was wet. We immediately contacted Belfor as well as the insurance company. Belfor was extremely easy to work with, and arrived onsite later that day to assess damages and mitigate further damage. I read the not-so-good reviews on here but can honestly say this was not even close to my experience with them. They were very professional, had a crew on-site and made sure everything was handled so I did not have to worry about further damage or doing anything myself. They also worked with my insurance company, as well as the owners of the downstairs unit. They were very quick in taking care of the issue, drying out the saturated areas of the ceiling and the wall, and making sure all damage was repaired. They arranged for a new water heater to be installed ASAP, which happened the next day (the original water heater was installed sometime in the mid-80's) and a lot of extra work had to be done to bring everything up to code with the new water heater. All in all they did an excellent and very professional job managing the entire situation. After everything was taken care of, they even contacted us for a follow-up to make sure we were satisfied with the work. I honestly cannot complain - they were very professional, responded quickly, were easy to work with and took care of the issue. read more

I called Belfor in to help with our basement, which flooded due to a toilet that malfunctioned. Belfor immediately responded with knowledgeable, caring individuals who helped save some belongings from damage and accounted for all items that were lost. Each person on the Belfor team was professional, polite and respectful of our home and our personal belongings. I appreciate all of the time and care they gave to use to get our home restored.
