My absolute favorite is the Cubus (passion fruit ganache in dark chocolate) but honestly all their chocolates are great. I don't know why I felt like such an ~adult~ when I stepped in here to get a gift for my work mom, but I did. Yes, I've walked into boutique chocolate shops before, but I have never done so with the intent to buy gifts. I was greeted by the intoxicating smell of chocolates and the smiling face of Patti, who is married to one of the shop's founders/chocolatiers. I tend to suffer from indecision especially when it comes to food, and when the options are plenty, it could take me a hot min (or 20) to pick. This happened here, but thankfully Patti was patient and answered questions that I had. There are packaged goods you can choose from, or if you want to pick/have the shop pick for you that's also possible. Whether you prefer dark, white or milk, they've got you covered. I learned that not only are they handmade every day, they also contain zero preservatives. I handpicked the chocolates I wanted in my 8-piece gold box, which was a kid-in-a-candy-store moment although it wasn't for me (womp womp). I did get a few treats for myself and truly enjoyed them. If you need a last minute gift (or carefully planned in advance... that's just not who I am), this is the place to go! I called ahead (because COVID) and the woman on the phone was very sweet and patient with assisting me. I ended up getting a half pound of different chocolates that they selected, but you can make any number of requests like no nuts, no alcohols, type of chocolate, etc. They wrap it up for you in a beautiful gold box with a ribbon of your choice. Right now there's free 10 minute parking outside on the north side of the street and it's very quick to pick up. You can pay over the phone or pay inside. They also told me that if you're not comfortable going inside they will bring your order out to you. Also what a beautiful store it is! I'll be back! read more

I had Belgian chocolatier Piron bookmarked for some time now and this past week I had a chance to visit the shop. Belgian is a small high end chocolatier shop that sells a variety of items (mostly chocolate related) like truffles, cordials, caramels, hazelnut filled chocolates, molded chocolate figures, barks, chocolate coated fruits, toffees and the list goes on. Each piece is delicious and truly a work of art. During the winter season, they offer hot chocolate that is rich in cacao. It's like drinking chocolate ganache! It is rather sweet so it's not for everyone but if you suffer from the sweet tooth, then this hot beverage is the perfect drink to have on a winter day. I visited around the week of Valentine's Day and the lines were steadily moving. The one highly coveted "it" item seems to be the chocolate heart shaped box where the box is a 100% edible chocolate mold! That's so cool! Their small size is about 45 dollars. I'll have to say this place is on the high end but for the taste and quality, the chocolates are definitely worth a try. read more

If I could give 4.5 I would. I live nearby and pass this place every day on my way to the train. Dangerous. I had avoided going in for the past 1.5 years because I knew I couldn't resist. Then, my brother came to visit me and took me here for a belated birthday present. I had a Romanas, Waltz (rum-filled), Chipotle Chili Pepper, and a hazlenut praline. I have a confession to make- I have never personally enjoyed Piron's wares; I really should correct that oversight some day. So why am I writing this review? Wellly well well, I have PURCHASED quite a lot of their chocolates. Usually as gifts for associates or co-workers deserving of a "thank you". Sometimes for women that I am dating as a present. And finally one and only one time as a special treat "just because" to a gorgeous southern born and raised "delicate flower of the south" redhead that I loved that lives steps away from Piron. I feel that chocolates from Piron are a wonderful gift that tells the person that you send them to that you made the effort to select a gift truly special, decadent and hand crafted. Let's get real- if you are sending someone a "thank you" or a gift acknowledging that they are special to you (IE: a lover or companion), shouldn't that gift reflect the feelings in your heart? The bottom line- if you feel that person is worthy of praise or admiration, send a gift from Piron. They will appreciate the gift and I am quite sure that you will ultimately be glad you made a thoughtful gesture (wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean squire? Say no more.) read more

This is a nice chocolate shop in Evanston. I think it's the only fancy chocolate shop within walking distance of Northwestern. No student discounts here, though. The chocolates are very pretty. I did buy a milk chocolate ganache one and thought it was very good. The filling was very rich. However, each piece is roughly about $2 or so, so this is something worthwhile of a splurge. My 15 piece box was around $16. They have a lot of chocolate with filling inside. I was hoping they'd have more chocolates that were a bit simpler since sometimes the fillings are too sweet. read more

And wonderful personal service; feels like an old world neighborhood shop in terms of service, but with world-class quality. I've been buying Christmas gifts here for 15 years, traveling from Hyde Park; erred in ordering late this year; and Patti filled my huge order with less than 48 hours notice despite the Christmas rush. My husband had given me boxes of chocolates from this place on several occasions and they make it to your liking. Best dark chocolate in existence. The salted caramel is probably my favorite. I wanted to update the review I posted several years ago. Piron is still hands down the best chocolate in the Chicago area. They make the chocolate fresh in house which is different from stores such as Godiva. I noticed one reviewer complained about prices and no free samples. Chocolatiers do not give free samples. Even Fanny May does not give free samples (unless you buy something). Piron is highest quality chocolate and yes, the highest quality does cost more. They also have sugar free chocolate squares which are very good. I have been buying chocolate here for years. The quality has never wavered. It's always outstanding. The nut bark is good as is my favorite - chocolate covered apricots. read more

We had no idea the deliciousness that was in store for us. The chocolates are pricey, but these are the kind of treats that can be slowly eaten and savored. My favorites were the chocolate covered marzipan, "the waltz" (semi-sweet ganache flavored with rum), and the dark chocolate ganache with cinnamon. So good! I just got one of their gift boxes, and I love it! It came beautifully wrapped in a gold box with a red ribbon. When I got it, I had no idea that it was from a place in Evanston! So nice knowing that there's a Belgian chocolatier nearby! I got a 1/2lb box, so, needless to say, I have a lot of chocolate to try. I think the milk chocolate bladije is good; I loved the milk chocolate hartije- it is so smooth and creamy on the outside; the cinnamon truffle is unreal- It absolutely melted in my mouth and tasted like heaven; out of all though, the marzipan is definitely my favorite- after spending some time in Europe, growing to actually like marzipan, I can tell you this is GREAT marzipan chocolate. I also shared a few pieces with friends and family, and they all loved the ones they tried. I definitely recommend picking up a box for yourself! read more
