They have a streusel rhubarb cream cheese frosting ice cream. I ordered a scoop and actually side eye my chocolate scoop! And the peppermint is that weird pink that coffee shop diners used to serve. The ice cream here is solid. I came with my husband and ordered a banana split with vanilla, strawberry, and one of the coffee flavors (the name slips my mind), but all of them were delicious. The ice cream was not icy, but it was hard-packed, and I wish it was softer. Also, I wish they had crushed peanuts as a topping, but they only had walnuts, almonds, or pecans. Overall, I would come again. I really liked the cheekiness of the decor and the names of some of the flavors. It's a chain, but it has a family feel. We picked up a quart each of a couple of our Chocolate Shoppe favorites - zanzibar chocolate and strawberry. This was our first visit to this particular store and it is totally independent of the same named Chocolate Shoppe in Edison Park. Current pricing here is $10.60 per quart and that's a healthy discount (about 25%) from Edison Park. Anita is the friendly owner here and Govind is her friendly husband. They've been at it for 11 years and they'll likely be there behind the counter when you arrive. Unlike Edison Park, they do accept credit cards (yaay!), but they don't give you free cones for the asking, they don't have the rewards program of buy 7 get the 8th free, and they don't have the snazzy themed and rotating decor here. But again, they do charge significantly less. The ice cream is the same great premium quality sourced from Wisconsin, and so there you have the story. read more

The Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream started out back in the early '60s in Madison, WI. Owned by Chuck Senior and Nancy Deadman, they started off by offering 19 flavors of their premium ice cream. A good friend and I came here after having dinner, and we each got a double-scoop of the Iced Latte-Da (Wisconsin-made caffeinated espresso ice cream with fudge swirls and chocolate chunks) and Halley's Comet (milk chocolate with vanilla ice cream swirl, caramel ribbons, and caramel truffles). Both ice cream was super thick, creamy, and delicious, with no ice crystals in sight (or in taste!)! The Iced Latte-Da had a nice strong espresso flavor, the fudge swirls just added a yummy chocolate-y complement to the ice cream; the Halley's Comet satisfied the sweet tooth for chocolate, and the caramel was decadent and yummy. Service was super friendly, and the small shoppe has about 6 little booth seats with some extra stand-alone chairs. The weather gods rudely teased us with some spring weather earlier this week and I snatched the opportunity to indulge in a cold treat. It was my 2nd visit, and per usual took 3 hours to decide what ice cream flavor I wanted. Flavors ran the gamut from banana cream pie to coconut almond bliss. To purists out there, don't cha worry, they also have vanilla and other basic flavors. I went with the iced latte because I have a caffeine addiction. It was creamy, not too sweet, and had a fantastic amount of chocolate mixed in. The 1st time I came, I got ambitious and asked for 2 scoops on a waffle cone. They give you a generous scoop here, so unless you're hungry for some ice cream, a scoop should suffice. read more

For my first visit I decided to try their Snap-O-Lantern (a seasonal flavor) which consists of Pumpkin Ice Cream with Gingersnap cookies and a flavor that I am forgetting the name of (but it came with a little of everything - cookie dough, brownie bites, caramel). The Gingersnap cookies weren't very snappy, but the flavor really came through. I liked it a lot! They have so many other really interesting flavors, I can't wait to come back! It turns out that it's the same company, yet each store operates independently. This one is so cute! The ice cream comes from Wisconsin and comes in several different flavors. I tried samples but had a hard time deciding what I wanted. When I saw that they had frozen yogurt, I got that instead, but had a pint hand packed with two of the chocolate flavors (Zanzibar and Halley's Comet) to take home to my family. The gentleman and woman who were working were both very nice, answering all my questions, and very accommodating. He was happy to pack whatever I wanted with no trouble. A few other customers came in while I was there, and I noticed that they were regulars. One lady was buying the homemade fudge for her office, and another lady had three kids who knew exactly what specialty flavors they wanted. We stopped by inside- its cute and cozy inside but nothing like their sister location near Devon and central. I ordered the Raspberry Rhapsody and my mom ordered the rocky road. The raspberry rhapsody is black raspberry ice cream swirled with a sweet raspberry ripple and heavenly chocolate covered raspberry cups. It was so delicious to say the least! I was a little surprised that it wasn't as sweet as I had anticipated but it definitely satisfied my ice cream needs. The only downside is that their sugar cone doesn't support the size of the ice cream served so I kept freaking out that it would spill over. read more

My Sunday could not have ended any better when my kids and I stopped by here after having an equally satisfying dinner. Who can say no to something named with the words "Chocolate" and "Ice Cream"?! I chose the SEA SALT CARAMEL... this wasn't the real name of the flavor but it is pretty much the description and it was so yummy! My favorite is the BLUEBERRY CHEESECAKE that I also had. It was refreshing, creamy and I couldn't get enough of it. My kids' all time favorite flavor from the local ice cream shop in New Buffalo, Mi has always been SUPERMAN. So when they saw this flavor on the window that night, they both got ecstatic and each ordered a scoop. I did not taste this but based from how this made my kids super happy, I'll say that they highly approve! Actually, while having his Superman scoop...my son said that it should be the only ice cream flavor ever. Yup, he was THAT happy about it. My daughter also had a scoop of BLUE MOON and I would describe this flavor in a "weird" way because I thought it had a "cute" flavor! It tasted like the crushed (almost powdered) pieces of Froot Loops cereal at the bottom of the container. All the scoops were simply yummy, very satisfying, smooth, creamy and there are so many flavors that everyone can choose from to satisfy their ice cream cravings. Overall, it's a definite JOY that my kids and I found this place. We will definitely, absolutely and happily return to try other flavors and maybe also stick to our favorites as well. read more

They have crazy fun flavors and they don't joke around (there's even fun messages on the cup saying 'if you are on a diet, go eat carrots') The very first time I visited here, I didn't know how big the sizes were so I ordered a double scoop on a waffle cone. I definitely COULD NOT finish (even though I wanted to). They are very generous with their portions! My friend got their extremely caffinated icecream in a shake form and it was also very very delicious. I drank a little bit and it woke me up. (I'd have this shake over starbucks anyday). The owner is super nice and never seems annoyed when I ask to try different flavors. My favorite flavors are the pistachio, coffee, cappachino, raspberry.....all. Wow, I had no idea that there was a Chocolate Shoppe in this neck of the woods! I might be in trouble. I'll keep this brief: for about a decade now, I have recognized Chocolate Shoppe ice cream as the best, almost anywhere. Definitely the best ice cream west of the Appalachians. It's not just high quality; their flavors are decadently inventive. Yes, you can get Zanzibar, the chocolateyest chocolate ever made. But you can also get Zoreo, which is Zanzibar plus marshmallow, Oreos, and chocolate chunks! Or Exhausted Parent: bourbon/coffee ice cream with bittersweet chocolate chunks (so perfect). Or how about Sticks & Stones: chocolate ice cream with cookie dough, chocolate-covered pretzels, and caramel ripple! Insane!! Prudence recommends getting only one scoop...but it's just so damn good that moderation is really a wasted opportunity. There are too many brilliant flavors to name, but a few of my favorites are: This S--- Just Got Serious, Coconut Almond Bliss, Caramel Apple Pie, Malt Amore, and Mint Avalanche. But if your tastes are plainer, definitely try the more traditional flavors, because quality is the top focus here, not razzle dazzle. There are no bathrooms in the place, but there are a few tables to sit to enjoy your desserts. Their prices are comparable to Oberweiss.
