What is going on here? I ordered the First Avenue sandwich -- a cheesesteak with bacon and sautéed onions -- and it was an absolute salt bomb. Not "well-seasoned." Not "bold." Just aggressively, overwhelmingly salty. Every bite felt like a dare. Between the bacon and the cheesesteak, it was sodium stacked on sodium with zero balance. I genuinely couldn't finish it after two bites. At that point, it felt like I had just thrown money straight into the trash. The sausage stuffed peppers were decent...thankfully. Not mind-blowing, but at least edible and competently made, which is more than I can say for the sandwich. They saved me from a starving morning. Extremely disappointed. I'm all for flavor, but when the dominant note is "are they trying to preserve this for winter?" something has gone very wrong in the kitchen. read more

I wish I could give this place 10,000 stars. Seriously one of the best places for Italian food and fixings. The only downside is the sun dried tomatoes are so amazing that no other sun dried tomatoes will EVER compare. A bit pricey but totally worth it. On this most recent visit, we also got a Tuscany sandwich which was HUGE and amazing. Service is usually pretty quick (even with a longer line!) Cannot reccomend enough! Wow I really forgot to take any pictures. Ugh...I'll have to use my words (just jokes here). So I was in NJ for work and the team and I went to Belgiovine for lunch. It's a cute little pizzeria/deli in the middle of Montclair across from the Whole Foods. When you walk in to the left is the restaurant (pizzeria) where you can sit down at a table for table service. Order with the waitress and pay at the counter. The other side is more of a carry out/deli with grab and go items in the fridge. I ended up ordering a pizza, yessss a whole pizza just for me. It was a huge square pie and easily could have fed 3-4 people. I got the "long hots and roni" pizza. I'm was thinking that a long hot is something new that I haven't tried before but no, they are just jalapeños. I asked a few people in there wth a long hot was and no one knew. Must be regional idk. The pizza was good but not the best but I'm also picky about pizza and prefer NY style. Pizza is also available by the slice. My colleagues mostly got sandwiches and they all looked delicious. I would go back for that meatball slider because apparently they are famous for their meatballs and it looked great! I usually get the MHS which is just an incredible chicken sandwich. Also the staff seem very friendly and are usually quite fast to service patrons. Ordered some sandwiches for delivery via Uber eats. Great sandwiches: I had a fairly simple Italian meats and mozzarella sandwich sans any toppings (as I prefer) and it was perfect. I ordered a chicken cutlet sandwich with cheddar and bacon for my boyfriend. He is normally not a big deli sandwich fan (also not a Jersey native), but loved this one. Lived in Montclair for 20 years. Multiple owners. Still the best deli in town. I walk past 3 delis to get there.

Easily my favorite deli in the area. Parking can be a bit of a pain, like anywhere in Montclair. Order ahead online and just stroll up and pick up your order. It's usually packed inside. Their menu is pretty extensive - you have your basic Italian sandwiches plus some different offerings. Everything is really fresh, and all sandwiches are on great bread (the bread is sooo important when you have a sandwich!) I've never had a bad sandwich, I've enjoyed every single one I've had. My favorites are the Firefighter, the Petey and the Belgiovine Special. read more

Shout out to this fantastic deli for the ease of curbside pick up in April 2020. Called in my order before 9 AM. Drove to pick it up around 9:30. Three great chicken cutlet subs were then delivered directly into my car's trunk. We had the Fonz, the MHS, and the MKA. There was plenty to feed six all sheltering at home later at lunch time. Everyone raved about the flavors, tasty chicken and sauces, and the delicious sub rolls. Good system and good food. read more

Got the masterpiece and the fonz on a Saturday afternoon for lunch!! The chicken cutlets on the fonz were absolutely and perfectly delicious. Moist, somewhat crispy, super flavorful. Bread on both sandwiches and fresh mozz was fantastic too. The only downside on the masterpiece was they forgot to put the prosciutto on! It was still delicious with eggplant, tomato, mozz and arugula but next time would love to try the fresh prosciutto which looked like it was straight from Italy! Ordered a tuna sub and could not get over how amazing and fresh everything was. I live in hoboken where there are a ton of great delis so I was curious how this one would compare. Absolutely loved this place! I ordered the MKA with no lettuce and added broccoli rabe and roasted peppers, they had no issues making the changes and the sandwich was absolutely delicious! The cutlet had great flavor, the prosciutto was great quality, and the bread was perfect! They carry a variety of products as well. I bought the tarallis (my family was very pleased). They carry San Benedetto Iced Tea, which I love and was very happy to see! I got to enjoy my sandwich outside at the outdoor tables they have set up. The staff was all upbeat and efficient. Can we overlook the fact that my GPS took me through Upper Montclair to get to this deli and it hurt to know I'll never be rich and live somewhere this nice? Anyway... The litmus test for an Italian deli has to be their homemade sausage and/or meatballs and gravy ('sauce' or 'marinara' for you heathens) and on my first visit I went with the meatballs. And they were excellent. (They also knocked it out of the park with their breaded chicken cutlets, cold cuts and a few other odds and ends I picked up.) To make sure it wasn't a fluke on my second visit I had to try their 'El Fuego' sandwich when I saw one component was 'muffuletta' (the traditional Muffuletta is without a doubt my all-time favorite sandwich and not something you ever see in Jersey). This heavy-duty sandwich was a scorchingly delicious work of beauty. My mouth was burning and I couldn't have been happier. (And all the other goodies I picked up on this visit were dynamite once again.) Official verdict: Belgiovine's is fantastic. Very cool staff (working their tails off behind the counter) to boot.
