After making a number of phone calls to various appliance repair companies in my hometown of Greensboro, NC, I was told the stove (a 1981 40" Crown gas range) was too old to repair because parts were probably no longer available since the range had not been made in more than 30 years. I was able to find one independent technician who came out and looked at the burner issue. He confirmed what I had suspected, but was not able to make any repairs. He suggested I look on the internet for someone who worked on vintage stoves. After looking at several different vintage stove repair companies, I found Belgrove Appliance Inc. in Yonkers, New York. Since this company was nearly 600 miles away from my home, I wasn't sure whether they would be able to help me. My first contact with Belgrove Appliance Inc. was through an email along with three detailed photos sent late on a Friday afternoon. I received an email back on the following Monday from Belgrove Appliance Inc. stating that they could help me with my burners along with the price it would cost to repair or replace each burner. On Tuesday I received a follow-up call from a Belgrove Appliance customer service representative wanting to know if I had any additional questions or concerns. I did have additional questions and concerns about sending all six of my burners nearly 600 miles away from my home to be repaired. The customer service representative assured me that they could do the repair and get my burners back to me fairly quickly. After our converstation, I was still concerned about sending my burners away for repair. That all changed the following day when I received a phone call from "The Famous Stove Lady" aka Carlita Belgrove: Carlita answered all my questions and reassured me that the burners could be repaired quickly and be returned to me within a short period of time. The whole repair process took less than two weeks, which included the time it took to ship my burners from North Carolina to New York and back via UPS Ground. When Belgrove Appliance got the burners from me, I was again contacted by Carlita Belgrove saying she had the burners and that they were already in the shop being repaired and would be shipping out in a day or two. Not only was Belgrove Appliance able to repair my burners, they were also able to supply me with new oven door gaskets and new springs for my broiler door. Belgrove shipped the springs along with my repaired burners and the door gaskets were drop shipped to me since they were out of stock on that item. Again, Carlita Belgrove was concerned about saving time and getting my stove back in working order so she had the gaskets drop shipped. The level of personal service and follow up I received was excellent and I would highly recommend Belgrove Appliance Inc. to anyone with a vintage stove. The one thing that sold me on Belgrove Appliance Inc. and has made me a loyal customer (who lives almost 600 miles away) is the small gesture of concern expressed by Carlita Bellgrove in our first conversation. She was concerned about how I was going to cook during the time the burners were being repaired. My Mother bought a Chambers stove back in the very early 50's that although is/was worn and tattered still made the most delicious meals, stews, burgers, etc. Everyone who has come into our home raves about the Chambers stove. My Mother's dream was to have it restored to its original beauty one day but unfortunately we never got around to it. When we lost Mom at 98 1/2 years, we knew we would have this done in her honor. I cannot say enough good things about Carlita the "stove lady" at Belgrove Appliance. My 88-year old mother's antique Chambers oven stopped working about six months ago. She was so disappointed that she was unable to roast the holiday turkey, bake her renowned pies and prepare birthday cakes for her many children and grandchildren. A local reputable appliance repair man took a look and said that he had no idea how to repair it. Her large extended family encouraged her to replace the relic with a new range. I have a 50+ year old stove that has served my family very well but for a number of years, one of the tracks that one of two broiler tray slides on had broken and I was unable to either fix it myself or find a local repair shop that without first charging an exorbitant service charge to come out and look at would even consider it. We live in a house in New Jersey that was built in 1854. When we moved into the house in 1983, there was an old Chambers stove that was built in the 40's. At first, my wife wanted to get rid of it and buy a brand new one. Once she starting cooking on it ,she fell in love with it. She swears by it now. Recently, we start to smell a gas and check the pilot light and it was on. We called PSE&G and they came out and could not find anything wrong. I started to check around and nobody wanted to come out to work on it, when I told them it was over 70 years old. Some of them said that they never heard of Chambers. Went online and found the Stove Lady and called her and explained our problem. Carlita could not have been nicer. She asked a couple of questions and she said pull out the soup pot well area on the stove that we never use and check the pilot light. We did and re lit it and now is just fine. I have a late 40's roper stove. After PSEG came out to change my gas meter to a newer one (during the process they obviously had to shut off the gas), my oven then stopped working! I was obviously pretty annoyed with PSEG as they fouled up my oven. I placed a service call for them which took over a week for them to have an open time to come out. Their repair man, although nice enough, really had no idea what to do, and was telling me certain parts might have broken, due to an interruption of gas. I found this so odd as my model of Roper oven is a 6 burner duel oven, which has duplicate mechanisms to control each side. I found the Stove Lady on line, and gave her a call and explained the problem to one of her employees, she personally called me back with in a minute and explained a simple trouble shooting solution to the problem that of course fixed my problem!! As one of the few , if only, purveyors and refinishers/repairers of vintage stoves on the east coast, it was a blessing to discover Belgrove Appliance. I bought my Crown 6-burner, double oven, 40" stove, new, 38 years ago. I love it and have always found it much easier to use than current stoves and with much more room in the ovens than the few 40" stoves now available. Whenever I've encountered a problem with the stove, such as needing to be recalibrated, all I've had to do is call Belgrove and Carlita Belgrove, the owner, will give me the name of a qualified repair person in my area, or arrange for a transfer to her shop for more extensive repairs while sending another stove for me to use while repairs are being made. I can seen no reasons for NOT using Belgrove if you are a dedicated cook and want to have access to as many burners and ovens as possible with reliable repairs access, as well. The vintage stoves are beautiful and distinctive and I wouldn't trade mine for any of the newer stoves I see. read more

The oven of my 40-year-old American Crown Works stove would not turn on. Two different appliance repairmen in a month's time recommended a new oven safety valve which they said was obsolete anyway, good luck, go buy a new stove. But it was Carlita who said to check if the start-time button was positioned correctly, and if that wasn't the problem then she could sell me the not-so-obsolete-for-her safety valve for my Crown oven. Well, upon adjusting the start-time button, the stove started right on up! Carlita is a genius! The Stove Lady has taught us how to indulge our love for our old American Crown 6 burner, two-oven, two-broiler range. We discovered that the wiring was messed up and the ovens didn't light when we first got it. Out here, in California, no one knew how to make it work. Enter the Stove Lady. She has a great reputation and she knows American Crown ranges as if she grew up on them. Only problem was that she is in Yonkers, NY. Rather than shipping our stove to New York, or flying her out here, Stove Lady walked me through a rewire using our smartphones with their cameras, and I fixed it myself. I paid for a house call. Later she helped me restore the stove, replacing rusted parts with new ones, freshly restored and enameled. Then, one Sunday night, one of the ovens would not light. The right front burner on my late mother's six burner Crown stove stopped lighting after milk boiled over. Having cleaned as much as I could without any success, it was time to call a professional. We have a Caloric 1950's wall oven and stove top. The oven especially needed some serious tic, the stove surface was cracked in a few places, and need some additional work as well to get it to work efficiently. After communicating with Carlita a bit, she visited our home with her team and got a better look at what needed to be done. We purchased our Chambers gas cooktop in 1983 for our kitchen in Boulder, CO, and enjoyed it for 35 years until we moved to Philadelphia. There has never been another cooktop that can compare with the Chambers in design, quality, and performance. Our Blue Star oven would stop working after about 20 minutes. The electricity would shut off without tripping the circuit breaker. Carlita spoke to Blue Star and they recommended a part. When that part arrived and didn't work Carlita called the company and spoke to a few different parties. Through Carlita's persistence, they eventually provided a different part which they had never mentioned before.
