We were blessed with the opportunity to visit Bell Wineries on Saturday. Our appointment was at 2:00, however we showed up early just to start drinking and wait for our appointment. However, we were met by Darren who was eager to allow us to start drinking early. He gave us a quick tour, Gave us the comfier chairs, let taste the better grapes and treated us like we were royalty connoisseurs. He properly taught us how to smell wine like wine snobs and what angle/degree our pinky should be. Lmao. Darren and the staff was wonderful, we even got to meet Mike who is Amazing at Origami and Kusudama (learned a new word!) and got a new ornament to hang on the Christmas tree!! Thank you so much for being so kind, generous and knowledgeable. We signed up for the wine club and even bought some vintages. Thank you again Bell for the OUTSTANDING wine and service!!! i have to admit, i had my reservations on visiting. i just didn't get a good vibe when we first arrived. Our limo driver provided a picnic lunch on the patio while we waited for our tasting. 2 thumbs up on the patio and backdrop. Needless to say, I was wrong! This place is awesome! The wine tasting was fantastic and very educational too. The staff could not have been any nicer and made us feel right at home. Hands down the Clone 6 is my absolute favorite wine...ever! While we visiting 2 other great wineries that day, none stood up to Bell Wine Cellars. I would never consider buying $100+ bottles of wine but I'm going back for a 2nd visit today to buy a few more bottles and consider joining their wine club. I truly can't speak highly enough about the team at Bell - From my initial phone call with John to the moment we drove away, it was hands down the best tasting experience I've had. For the wine - I'll let it speak for itself, but I promise you won't be disappointed! (We walked away with 4 bottles at the end of the tasting...) Upon arrival, John greeted us before we could even make it to the door (talk about great customer service!) and were introduced to Victoria & Darren who we would spend the next two hours with. Victoria walked us through the barrel room out to the vineyard and gave us an incredible history of Anthony & Sandra's road to Yountville. The passion she had for the wine and the respect and admiration she had for the Bell's was second to none. After the vineyard tour, we were taken into a private room to complete the remainder of the tasting and all I can say is WOW! The wine was superb, Victoria was remarkable - informative (she's a Napa native), friendly and an overall delight, and we felt like family. The wines were great. No doubt about it. One of the better Chardonnays I have had in a long time, and I usually don't like Chardonnay. But, the staff, while informative, was neither welcoming nor particularly warm. And though we were told it would be ok to picnic there, we didn't feel that it was an encouraged practice. We go to wine country a lot; it's one of our favorite things to do. We try to stick to smaller wineries to avoid large buses and crowds. And usually we happen upon wonderful laid back places, where the wines are good and the staff manages to be both informative and welcoming. This was not that place. Oh, so you know, buying a bottle does not waive a tasting fee. I'm glad I bought the bottle, it's good wine, but was surprised at this. read more

Dan, our guide is very passionate about the winery and especially his job. Dan held my attention by simplifying wine. I felt comfortable with the terms he was using for describing wines and how to use my senses to taste it. I will make it a point to stop by anytime we are in the area. read more

This was the first stop on our wine tour and was amazing. Our host really took the time to explain the wine, how to analyze it, how to smell it and how to drink it. We did a spontaneous tasting at Bell, and it was great! Reservations are required, but we were able to make a last minute rezzie for the four of us. Tastings are $20, and if you add a cheese pairing, it's $25. Definitely get the cheese pairing - it's 5 bucks well spent. For wine nerds, Bell does the Clone-6 cab, which is a rare and expensive bottle of wine. It's so expensive because out of all the grapes they grow, they can only use half of them. We were able to taste this, but for me, I actually preferred the much more inexpensive Merlot. I am not a big red wine drinker, but this Merlot was really great, so we brought a bottle back with us. Hubby brought back a Syrah. The bronze medal went to the sparkling wine that we had upon first arriving. It was super refreshing. Overall, Bell was a nice surprise to our time in Wine Country, and I'd recommend it. read more

Came here for a special event and it was fun to taste amongst the barrels. They geek out on wine-growing here. They love to talk terrior, soil conditions, root stocks and all. LOVE this place! We stopped by here while cruising through Yountville, and were very impressed. This place is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Yountville, tucked down at the end of Washington Street. The place is appointment only, but they are very flexible with making your appointment. We called when we were only a couple of minutes away, and they squeezed us in with no problems. The wine is tasty (especially their Clone 6 Cab)! The sommerliers were very knowledgeable and friendly, and we ended up spending over an hour here just chatting with them. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone in the Napa Valley area. I love supporting smaller wineries like this one, especially when they have good wine and a good staff! read more

This afternoon we went in to wine taste at Bell and were told we had to make an appointment and came back at 4. At first we were annoyed but when we came back it was well worth the wait and the appointment made sense. We came back and were seated at a table pre set with glasses for wine and water, as well as an amazing cheese plate per seat. Two couples joined us from New York and the sommelier poured us wine, paired it with the cheese and even walked us around showing off the steel vats, oak barrels, grape de-stemmer, and juicer machines. Not only was the wine some of the best we had all day, the overall experience was awesome! The sommelier answered all of our questions and taught us a lot. Price: $25 per person Unless you have the napa passport and then its 2 for 1 AND if you buy a bottle of wine one tasting is complimentary for one person, which means if you have the passport all you pay for is the bottle! Bell Wine Cellars is an excellent place for tasting and well worth the trip. They are one of the view places that produce single clone Cabernets, which allows you to learn a substantial amount about how each clone varietal affects the taste when blending or creating blends. Of particular interest is the Clone 6 Cab, and the varietal tasting if you can afford the time. If you are looking for great bottles to put down in the cellar for 10-20 years this is a good place to go, and a good place to get a membership for access to library wines. read more

What a great experience we had at Bell! I can't say enough good things about this winery and I've been to most all the big name wineries out there. The wine is fantastic and our guide John Helfrick was absolutely incredible. John is extremely knowledgeable and funny as hell and had us laughing the whole time all while educating us on wine. He taught us so many interesting facts about wine and what they at Bell do that's different than the norm. If you make a trip to Napa you have to go to this winery and make sure you ask for John and try the white cab they have. It's fantastic! You won't be disappointed. We recently had a lovely tour and wine tasting at Bell Wine Cellars in Yountville. It was intimate and top-drawer from start to finish. Our appointment was at 10:00am. John Helfrick, General Sales Manger, was waiting for Don and me outside of Bell's door with a glass of Bell's Sparkling Wine. The sparkling wine was delightful, but, what was even more a delight was the history lesson that John gave us about champagne, how the bubbles reflect the quality of any sparkling wine or champagne. The larger the bubbles the more excellent. We sampled a very mellow Merlot, a full rounded Cabernet, however, the barrel tasting of the reds was outstanding with an exciting blend in the end. We fell in love with Bell's sparkling and their Sauvignon Blanc. We bought both. What was really most enjoyable was how personal and how informative our tour with John was. To top everything off we walked through the vineyard, John took pictures of us as we got some vitamin "D". Then we were off to brunch at Bistro Don Giovanni which John highly recommended, even telling us exactly what to order. John Helfrick made our morning visit at Bell Cellars worth remembering, we shall return!! read more

Found this place last minute while driving into Yountville and had some time to kill before my reservation at Bottega. Tastings are by appointment but it looks like they will take people in ASAP if there is room. All the wine here is pretty solid and was worth the $20 tasting fee. We were poured 5 wines, including Clone 6 (yum!) and a barrel sampling. The sales person made a big fuss over the Clone 6 but I was just as happy with their other cab (it definitely needs to be decanted though). If I hadn't already picked up 6 bottles that day, I definitely would have gone home with a magnum of the Clone 6. I'll pick it up on my next visit after I've killed off some of my Napa haul and bottles sitting around the dining room :P read more

By far the best wines out of Napa Valley. If you miss this Vineyard on your Napa-tasting excursion, you have really not experienced the superb quality and drinkability of these wines. There is also something to be said for this winemaker's passion and dedication to winemaking. Anthony Bell grew up on his father's vineyard in South Africa and experienced the ropes of viticulture at an early age. He then studied in Europe and then proceeded to work for the famous BV Vineyards for 15 years before starting his own vineyard. Not a shock to me and my guests that his wines were easy to drink yet full of complexity and actually taste like the grapes they say they are on the label. What is surprising is Anthony and his lovely wife Sandra's humble-ness and hospitality. This is not present at other vineyards. Most if them boast a "superb quality" and although the other vineyards may offer history and a stunning facility, you find yourself only favoring a select few out if your tasting. read more

This is my favorite vineyard. I probably shouldn't be writing this because I want to keep the secret. The owners whom I have met on some of my visits are very friendly and they know about the history of the region and can tell you in detail how their wines are made. If you're not interested in that, they will just pour and pour. Make a reservation for a tasting. They will also recommend some other vineyards in the area, is you ask. You get a discount on 6 or more bottles. You probably won't find this wine in too many stores, as they don't produce as many cases as their competitors. And this coming season, cross your fingers for the new Clone 6. read more

From start to finish the experience at Bell was nothing short of fantastic. We showed up without a reservation and they were able to accommodate us with no issues. John welcomed us with open arms ... even though we were patriots fans and he is a die hard Raiders fan he gave us a tour of the vineyard and explaining the wine making process. He was so personable as was the rest of the staff. I instantly joined the club after tasting just a few of their wines they were all amazing and I can't wait for my fist shipment. I think I've found my new favorite winery in Napa! My parents, brother and I went on a Monday and got very lucky to have John as our own private tasting guide. He was very enthusiastic, funny and knowledgeable, which my parents especially appreciated because they're always interested in the science behind wine-growing/making. I visited Bell Winery a few weeks ago with a group of friends on a private tour and loved it! A members only event was being hosted, but they kindly opened their VIP tasting room to our group and the service was impeccable. Elyse was great, she was informed, energetic and funny to top it all off. The ambiance of the tasting room area was great for a rainy day, (I imagine sunny as well) and would love to return. We did a Grape to Glass Tasting & Tour and were lucky enough to have the owner's wife, Sandra, as our tour guide. She was friendly, welcoming and accommodating. She was also very knowledgable about the winery and the area in general. My husband, a horticulture student, enjoying talking terroir and clonal varieties with her :-) She sat down at our table while we did our tasting (which we thought was a lovely spread, especially since we went on a weekday and were the only 2 on the tour) and we had interesting conversation with her. As a driver I am required to make reservations for the clients today I made reservations with a different Winery and that winery canceled so that they cannot accommodate at the last-minute I called Bell Winery and they accommodated our reservations for five people who were celebrating a birthday. Loved our time here! It was our first stop on day 2 in wine country. A little slow on the seating and getting us started even though we had a reservation. Though to be fair we were about 5 min early and they gave us a glass of bubbly each while we waited on the terrace which was comfortable. Nice and cool inside too if people want a break from the sunshine. Our server Elise, was amazing and very knowledgeable! We had so much fun with her as our guide! Such a great find! Super friendly, quirky employees make you feel right at home. The tasting/tour started indoors, in a very cool tasting room. We poured some bubbly and walked through the winery, looking at some of the barrels and employees in action. The girl doing our tour took the whole bottle outside with us, and we walked through some rows of vines and drank a little more bubbly. She took a great picture of our group out among the vines. We then finished the tasting sitting at a picnic table outside. There is a bocci ball court outside that members can use. We really enjoyed both the wines and the ambience, so we are now wine club members- maybe we will play some bocci next time we are here! read more

Good experience learning about the history of Bell Wine Cellars. I'll recommend BE3 Grape to Glass Tour to only wine connoisseurs who can listen about wines for more than one hour otherwise it will be dull. Victoria took great care of us with a wonderful table setting to taste Cabernet sauvignon clones 4, 6, 7 and 337. Valuing our time I feel a BE1 Current Release Tasting would have been better. read more
