First off how do you put someone on hold for over 10 minutes while the customer can hear you in the background having a conversation with your coworkers because you're not intelligent enough to actually put someone on hold. Just picked up an order from here. I ordered incorrectly online and realized while I was in store so I had them made me another burger that I paid for. The cook calls out my order for the second burger. It hasn't been put together yet and I see the cook reach into this container of already cooked bacon with her BARE HANDS and put it on my burger and wrap it up! I could not believe this shit. To top it all off she wasn't wearing a mask. The only person wearing a mask was the man who works there who is usually working the register and when I first walked in to pick up my order that I'd ordered wrong he was working the grill and idk if he was wearing a mask then. He was wearing a mask when two cops walked in after I was waiting, I was on my phone so idk if he put it on when he saw them or what. Either way they should all be wearing a mask and GLOVES at all times. Belladonna is right down the street from the office, though I can't exactly walk there-- Burleson Road is scary, even by my ex-Houstonian standards. Yummy subs, my favorite workday grilled chicken salad, and even breakfast, I've heard, all made with love by the very friendly counter staff. The owner is there every day (I still to this do not know his name), and he reminds me of Luigi (one half of the Super Mario Brothers). Every time I call in an order and he gets my name, he calls out, "Ahhh! Lovely Lindsay! It'll be 10-15 minutes!" It's not creepy, it makes me smile. This place rules. Very simple aesthetically, its not a "nice" restaurant but the food is pretty damn good for cheap!! I can get a real good muffallata, drink, chips and a cookie for under 10 bucks! And they have punch cards too so you can come back for some free sandwich goodness. I hear their breakfast is great too but never get out that way in the morning. Even during lunch hours I've never been there where its unacceptably busy.. usually in and out of there in 20 minutes. The religious stuff on the wall may turn off some people but I look at it this way, they're good people, hard working and local and make kick ass cheap food.. Totally doesn't bother me. I've been coming to Bella Donna's for many years as it's super convenient to work, but it's their fantasticness that keeps me coming back. A marvelous wide selection of sandwiches and burgers and all that I have tasted have been wonderfully prepared. Today I had the BLT. It comes with avocado, which honestly should come standard on all BLTs from now on. It was simply marvelous. Their grilled cheese is also very addictive. May I suggest adding bacon? You're welcome. For a couple of dollars more you get a drink, chips and a chocolate chip cookie (it is a small cookie, but just perfect for that bite of sweet after your meal). The staff is quite delightful. I'm not sure they actually remember me (I don't come all that often), but they always act like I'm a friend who come to see them, smiling and happy to see me. I always leave with a smile. read more

What a complete disappointment, one slice of ham, 2 thin slices of salami, and one slice of prosciutto that I actually had to go up to the counter and ask them where it was because it wasn't visable. I had high hopes based on the reviews. I don't know why everybody is raving this place up. Being an Italian boy from Boston & NYC I know Italian food like you people know Barb'q. We tried the Eggplant parm, and the Chicken Parm. The sauce and cheese were quite good. Subs are only $5 but VERY, VERY small. I could eat 3 easily (If they tasted better.) The chicken was chunks of soggy stewed chicken, (not a nice breaded cutlet.) The eggplant had a totally weird overpowering herby flavor, rosemary or lavender (!) or something ... Not basil or oregano for sure . Definitely not like you get from anyone's grandma, or even corner pizza joint back home. The bread was spongy soft, not like a good piece of Italian bread. I heard the owners are from the east coast, they should know better. This place wouldn't last 5 minutes back there with out some MAJOR adjustments. read more

This is a new discovery near my office. It is not a conventional sub shop - kind of a different feel, although they do all the subs pretty great. I am particularly excited by the NY deli offerings, considering the lack of such in Austin. Consider Ira's Rueben: Grilled marbled rye, piled with hot corned beef, sauerkraut, and melted swiss cheese with Russian dressing. Yummmmmmmmy Also - hot pastrami, NY hot dogs, and stuff that puts Katz's to shame. I have to say that eating a hot pastrami on rye in a, lets say, distinctly non-Jewish environment, is slightly culturally confusing, but no less delicious. Also great Chicago beef sandwiches and muffalettas and lots of downright great stuff here. No to-go menus, no website so its hard to do phone orders, but they have a whole wall full of delicious menu items, with drool-worthy pics. I want to try the veggie special which has 3 kinds of cheese, artichoke hearts, grilled eggplant, etc. Others swear by the hamburgers, but -- with all that Italian coldcut goodness, why? why? I frequent this establishment at least two days out of my work week and I must say, for a small-whole-in-the-wall sub shop they always have such great subs and service. You would never guess what good eats are awaiting you when you look at the small strip mall with a simple SUB SHOP sign popping up top of a building aligned by warehousing stores and warehouses. If you are cheese steak fan, you'll enjoy their steaks. There is a debate on using whiz v. cheese with cheese steak aficianados, and they don't use whiz so if you are whiz fan you won't be seeing it here. I'm not going to say that they have the best Philly in Austin, however, if I had to give a strong second to any place it would be Belladonna. You cannot go wrong with the Southwest Philly Cheese Steak. Their fresh subs are always perfectly portioned (you get your fill of meats and cheese and veggies, not just bread overload). I also mentioned the service, but I haven't given it justice. Upon arrival you are welcomed with a genuine "how are you doing?" by the gentleman I believe is the owner. The kitchen staff (because you can stand there and watch them prepare your food) is always joking with the waiting customers, trying to give them a chuckle. There is always someone coming around even when its busy to make sure the tables are clean and that you are enjoying your food. They are attentive, and being in service industry for as long as I have been, I can appreciate that. :) My only complaints are that they frequently run out of iced tea and jalapeno flavored Kettle Chips. Peppers, yes, cheese, sometimes, you can even call it a combo and get sausage in it, but onions? Never! And here's the worst part, They cook the onions into the meat so you can't even get it made right if you wanted to. It's not even an option, I asked. Got the number 14 Overstuffed Pastrami Sandwich. While i don't agree that the sandwich is overstuffed, it was an awesome sandwich. The sandwich consisted of caramelized onions and green bells layered between a generous portion of piping hot pastrami and provolone cheese. Sandwich comes with a small serving of shredded lettuce and dill pickle spear on the side and a single chocolate chip cookie for desert. The Reuben is outstanding, but so is the Italian Beef, the Brooklyn Philly and Yenti's Pastrami. Last visit I tried the Chicken Parm with eggplant on a white hoagie roll and it was out of this world. The hoagie was "lined" with cheese and thinly sliced grilled eggplant then topped with grilled chicken breast pieces and smothered with a tasty Marinara sauce. Ok, this review is WAY overdue. I remembered this little joint a couple of months ago and mentioned it to my coworkers around lunch time once day. I may have created a few monsters! Everyone that gets a burger RAVES about them... hand made patty, just enough char to have great flavor, really nice buns... and did I mention the variety? And the sandwiches...cheesesteaks, heroes and subs, oh my!!! I've had several items on the menu and haven't had anything I didn't enjoy completely. OH, the best part? They deliver if you order more than $24 of food! This is not a problem for us (usually 6-10 folks ordering). Both the order guy and the delivery guy (sorry, I'm horrible with names) are super friendly and on the rare occasion that there's a missing order they make it right with a second delivery right away. Bella Donna is a diamond in the rough. It is the closest "good" non-chain restaurant near where I work so I find myself going there often. Their selection is extremely diverse, ranging from hot and cold subs, to burgers and hotdogs. Each menu item is cooked to perfection, and the staff have no problems making special orders if you want to ask them to remove or add things to your order. I have a few food allergies so this is very much appreciated for someone like me. Their order delivery is extremely fast and I've never waited more than 10 minutes for them to make my sandwich. Prices are absolutely spot on. Not too high, not too low. You get what you pay for. They have many different drinks to offer, but their chips selection is a bit on the small side. Regardless it's worth every penny. If you want one of the best subs in this area, possibly in Austin, seek out Bella Donna for lunch - you won't be disappointed, I guarantee it. Just be aware that the outside parking is pretty crowded around lunchtime and their space inside isn't too big - almost always full of people. A to-go order is recommended. read more
