this is the "vegan burger" (not vegan its beef)

We stopped by Shortwave Diner on our way to Lake Austin to grab some burgers, and at first, I was really excited. They proudly advertise having a few vegan options!! Ordering was a bit of a hassle since you have to scan a barcode and order through your phone, my phone wasn't loading but my bf's was so we ordered on his & again was happy to see clearly labeled vegan options for their original burger and smash burger, even with vegan cheese and vegan sauce. I ordered the vegan burger to-go and was starving by the time we got to the lake, but the moment I took a bite, I knew something was wrong. It was real beef. Pink on the inside, unmistakable texture and taste. I haven't eaten meat in over ten years, and it was absolutely disgusting and deeply upsetting. It's unacceptable for any restaurant to mislabel food like that, especially when people are trusting their dietary needs and ethical choices to what's written on the menu. I lost all trust in this place and was so disappointed. If you have any kind of dietary restriction (vegan, vegetarian, allergy, anything -- be extremely cautious ordering here (or don't take your chances)

Fries were great! $5 The egg sandwich was fine but it was $9 amd pretty small. English muffin was chewy instead of crispy or toastes.

I'll admit that whenever I come to Radio, I typically eat with the intention of going to the other trucks, but last night, I made it a point to visit Shortwave Diner since it's always open, and I've been curious. It's a truly underrated little truck. My only complaint is scanning a QR code to order/pay. Call me old school, but it almost feels faster for me to talk to a human and tap a card, but I'll follow the house rules. In any case, it came out very quickly, so that's one plus. I got the Glizzy Paul basket. This might be my new favorite hotdog in town. Not to mention I got a fully dressed hotdog with a sizeable portion of freshly made fries for under $10. That's kind of unheard of in Austin these days. (Shout out inflation.) Anyway, I'm glad I took a chance on this truck and left with my hunger satiated. I'm looking forward to trying something new next time.

I had the breakfast sandwich. You get a choice of sausage, bacon, or avocado spread. I definitely recommend it. Chalula sauce is optional and comes on the side. I wud. You could choose between an English muffin or a biscuit. Service is fast. Place is clean.

    Avocado toast

Avocado toast is INCREDIBLE. Perfect jammy eggs and the pistachio crumble on top is unique and delicious. Thought it was a bit pricey not knowing portion size when ordering but it was huge and filling. 10/10.

Great menu on this food truck with solid fries and a decent chicken. The bun was good but the sandwich itself was so small, wish it was bigger for the price. Didn't have to wait too long for it either.

Breakfast sandwich on potato bun - no egg, sausage bacon tomato and avocado, arugula and aioli. SO GOOD!

Putting a mobile order only restaurant in an area with no Verizon signal is an act of stupidity so large it's almost admirable.

I…read morefeel like the kind of people who are interested in a healthy bowl of nourishing food would be split not quite down the middle between both of these restaurants. Are they hoping the better-known Mediterranean bowl place will be so full they can catch their overflow? People in a rush might skip the line and try this less-known healthy bowl food restaurant instead? But I digress... I had tried CAVA four times or so and every time I saw MAD Greens and thought, Someday I'm going to try that place. Well, last Sunday was the day. I got to eat what I wanted because I was eating solo. I'm going all in on this trial run, I thought to myself, so I bought one salad for that day and ordered another to be my lunch the following day. I walked in and was the only customer in the restaurant. I was greeted warmly by the young man behind the counter, who called me queen and had no complaint about my asking for no tomatoes and the dressings on the side. I tried the Greek one and the sesame sriracha one. The place was clean enough and the employees seemed to be enjoying themselves, chatting and goofing off a reasonable amount. The bowls were great. I chose the Greek one first when I realized it had pita chips inside. It came with two dressings, the creamier of which was a.m.a.z.i.n.g. Confession--I am a recovering picky eater and I hate cucumbers, but I love sneaking them into my body underneath delicious dressings and salty kalamatas. The second day I ate the sesame sriracha situation. It had tofu, which tbh I have never successfully eaten, and it was really good. It reminded me of the paneer in Indian food. That salad had edamame too, so I was definitely satiated and I'm guessing I got plenty of protein. Overall, I will definitely go back. CAVA has had some consistency problems for me, as well as some of my favorite offerings being limited-time or seasonal (isn't it the worst when restaurants lure you in with seasonal offerings you can't count on?!), so I'm glad to have had such a positive experience here and I'm hoping they will be consistently good.

It wasn't too busy but most of the outdoor tables were taken, although there was plenty of indoor seating available when we visited. I…read moredidn't realize just how many salads they offer, but I really appreciated that tofu is available as a protein option. What especially caught my attention--perfect for a cool winter evening in Texas--was their mushroom stew with a vegan miso base. We ordered cups of the vegan mushroom stew to start, along with one of the seasonal specials, the yam string fries, and a shared plate of grilled tofu. The mushroom stew was very umami-forward, filled with miso broth and a variety of mushrooms. While it was comforting, it felt like it needed a bit more seasoning--either spice or salt--to really elevate it. I was also expecting something thicker or creamier since it was labeled a "stew," but the base was quite runny and brothy with steamed mushrooms. The grilled tofu was decent, with a nice color on the outside, though it was soft and could have used more flavor. The yam string fries were almost comically thin--extremely shoestring. Dipping them into sauce was a challenge because they were so tiny, but it was still fun to eat them while chatting. What really stood out was the atmosphere. The dining area is comfy and cozy, and the colorful wall décor adds a lot of character. It's a welcoming, relaxed space right on Congress. Overall, Vinaigrette is a cozy Austin spot with casual yet slightly upscale vibes, offering healthy salad, soup, and sandwich options. If that's what you're looking for, it's definitely worth a visit.

Let me get right to it. Everything I ate was A++. The five of us shared a pancake, which was extremely fluffy and tasty, with melted butter. I did not have the French toast, which looked inviting, but a sugar overload. I also did not try the homemade pop tart that everyone said was very good. My latte with whole milk, served hot, was delicious. I went simple -- had two eggs, with bacon, potatoes, and toast. This was a memorable breakfast with ordinary ingredients that was prepared in an exceptional manner and perfectly seasoned. There's not much more that I can say, other than when you can make the ordinary taste special you're doing something extremely right! Our primary server, see photo, was delightful and efficient. Fellow that brought the food was also friendly. Presentation was excellent, even though fairly simple. Prices were extremely fair for the quality of the food in my opinion.
