    Smash Burger Basket ($12)
    Wendi K.

We were at Radio East for a show and ordered a smashburger basket ($12) from the food truck. The food took FOREVER but it was very busy, so understandable. The burger was super flavorful and decadent, the burger sauce and pickles are so my jam. The fries were fine - kinda soggy limp boys. I wish they offered ketchup immediately or some kind of dip with them. Lots of outdoor tables to sit from. You can order using a QR code.

this is the "vegan burger" (not vegan its beef)

We stopped by Shortwave Diner on our way to Lake Austin to grab some burgers, and at first, I was really excited. They proudly advertise having a few vegan options!! Ordering was a bit of a hassle since you have to scan a barcode and order through your phone, my phone wasn't loading but my bf's was so we ordered on his & again was happy to see clearly labeled vegan options for their original burger and smash burger, even with vegan cheese and vegan sauce. I ordered the vegan burger to-go and was starving by the time we got to the lake, but the moment I took a bite, I knew something was wrong. It was real beef. Pink on the inside, unmistakable texture and taste. I haven't eaten meat in over ten years, and it was absolutely disgusting and deeply upsetting. It's unacceptable for any restaurant to mislabel food like that, especially when people are trusting their dietary needs and ethical choices to what's written on the menu. I lost all trust in this place and was so disappointed. If you have any kind of dietary restriction (vegan, vegetarian, allergy, anything -- be extremely cautious ordering here (or don't take your chances)

Fries were great! $5 The egg sandwich was fine but it was $9 amd pretty small. English muffin was chewy instead of crispy or toastes.

I'll admit that whenever I come to Radio, I typically eat with the intention of going to the other trucks, but last night, I made it a point to visit Shortwave Diner since it's always open, and I've been curious. It's a truly underrated little truck. My only complaint is scanning a QR code to order/pay. Call me old school, but it almost feels faster for me to talk to a human and tap a card, but I'll follow the house rules. In any case, it came out very quickly, so that's one plus. I got the Glizzy Paul basket. This might be my new favorite hotdog in town. Not to mention I got a fully dressed hotdog with a sizeable portion of freshly made fries for under $10. That's kind of unheard of in Austin these days. (Shout out inflation.) Anyway, I'm glad I took a chance on this truck and left with my hunger satiated. I'm looking forward to trying something new next time.

I had the breakfast sandwich. You get a choice of sausage, bacon, or avocado spread. I definitely recommend it. Chalula sauce is optional and comes on the side. I wud. You could choose between an English muffin or a biscuit. Service is fast. Place is clean.

    Avocado toast

Avocado toast is INCREDIBLE. Perfect jammy eggs and the pistachio crumble on top is unique and delicious. Thought it was a bit pricey not knowing portion size when ordering but it was huge and filling. 10/10.

Great menu on this food truck with solid fries and a decent chicken. The bun was good but the sandwich itself was so small, wish it was bigger for the price. Didn't have to wait too long for it either.

Breakfast sandwich on potato bun - no egg, sausage bacon tomato and avocado, arugula and aioli. SO GOOD!

Putting a mobile order only restaurant in an area with no Verizon signal is an act of stupidity so large it's almost admirable.

Glad it did. The menu isn't huge, but honestly that's usually a good sign -- focus on doing a smaller menu really well instead of serving 94 mediocre things and a sad waffle. I ordered the Bad Ass Bacon & Eggs plate. It came with thick-cut bacon, 2 eggs, hash brown casserole, wheat toast, and smoked salsa. Bacon - 9/10 This wasn't your average thin breakfast bacon. Thick-cut, almost pork belly style, with killer flavor and very meaty. Eggs - 9/10 Cooked perfectly and tasted fresh. Simple, but done right. Hash Brown Casserole - 8/10 Different than what I expected, but in a good way. Unique flavor and a great addition to the plate. Salsa - 7/10 Very homemade style salsa with a smoky flavor. Different, but really good. Atmosphere - 9/10 Loved the vibe. Cozy atmosphere, great music, and just an overall comfortable place to sit and enjoy breakfast. If this place was closer to home, I'd eat here often. Service - 10/10 Excellent service. Christy H. was friendly, attentive, and on point the whole time. Overall - 9/10 Definitely a must-try breakfast spot in Austin. They currently have four locations, and after eating here, it's easy to see why.

This place does get busy due to how popular the place is. They don't take reservations, so you have to there to put yourself on the waitlist. While you wait you can order a drink. We didn't since there were other coffee shops I wanted to try. Since everything looked so good on the menu, we asked our waitress what's the most popular. He recommended the chicken & biscuits, cinnamon toast, & the b.e.c sandwich. I ended up getting the b.e.c. sandwich & it was yummy. The sesame challah bun was soft & toasty. The bacon was smoky & crispy. The bacon, pimiento cheese, jalapeño jam, sunny egg, & arugula in the sandwich was the perfect combination for a breakfast sandwich. The potato wedges that it was served with were crispy, well seasoned, & not salty as all. My boyfriend ordered the chicken & biscuit & it was yummy as well. The chicken was crispy & juicy. Paired with the hot honey made it better. The biscuit was fluffy, but I wished it was more buttery. Overall, everything was so good. I'm definitely gonna try the cinnamon toast & other foods the next time I'm in Austin.

Friendly staff overall. The food fell flat for almost all of us. The salads were fresh and good. However, the ribs were below average. Cornbread was stale and not tasty. Not quite sure why the food was subpar, but there were 10 of us who all agreed we wouldn't return for food. There is a swanky little cozy speakeasy in the basement that may be good? We were both starving and this place is open 24/7. I drove by it for 20 years on the way to Avenue Barber Shop. I wanted shredded beef tacos but couldn't get them without cilantro so I chose shredded beef enchiladas (with an $8!) side of chips and salsa. My wife ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries. She requested soft eggs, as she always does because too many places overcook them. The chips and salsa arrived. I was immediately disappointed. The menu said "we make our own chips." They were thick and yellow and appeared to be run-of-the-mill, out-of-a-bag chips. I prefer the thin white ones. I took one bite of salsa, and that was one bite too many. Cumin. I pushed it all aside. Cumin doesn't belong in salsa. (Sorry. I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley.) My enchiladas came with black beans, and there was cumin in them. Cumin is overused and abused in most restaurants. I couldn't eat them. The rice was good but the chipotle sauce on the enchiladas was not. I scraped most of the sauce off and ate one enchilada, mainly because I just needed something in my stomach. We were still 45 miles from home. I pushed my plate away. I also ordered coffee. One sip of that was all I could stand. Too weak for me. It gets worse, much worse. My wife's eggs were barely cooked. She asked the waiter for some cooked eggs. He took her plate and returned about four minutes later. The eggs were still not cooked. She tried another bite but couldn't eat them. Her bacon was tough as a boot and not chewable. The home fries were average, but by the time her plate arrived at our table for the second time, they were cold. I pulled my card out waiting for our excellent server to return. He asked how everything was (he had to notice two plates still covered with food) and we politely told him. I ate one enchilada and some rice. My wife had two bites of egg and two bites of potato. He apologized and handed me the check. $65. Nothing comped and nothing adjusted. A manager should've been summoned. How does a place like this have any customers? It was our first and last visit.
