I wish I could give this zero stars. This is the second time I had the misfortune of eating this terrible food. A few months ago, my girlfriend ordered takeout because of geographic convenience on our way home - the food was absolutely horrible. This was the worst Italian food I had ever eaten and was the worst food I had eaten in Denver. Yesterday I looked on maps for nearby Italian food hoping to try something new and I didn't realize that this was the same place I ate the terrible takeout from just a few months ago. After placing my order, then looking at the map and realizing this was in fact one and the same, I decided to give this another try instead of trying to cancel my order. I went in to pick up my order and there were toddlers and children running around in the kitchen area. The guy who handed me my food grunted at me in one of the rudest exchanges I have had as a customer. Now comes the worst part - the food. The soup smelled like dirty dishwater, and tasted like it. The sauce was nasty to say the least, and when I took a bite of a meatball, I got a gag reflex from the taste. The baked ziti was completely overcooked, and this meal did not resemble any Italian food that I've eaten. 90% of this meal went into the garbage and I considered forcing myself to throw up what I had consumed. I will never eat this again and I am sure I will get a gag reflex if I ever drive past this restaurant again. Vile. There are a lot of better restaurants to spend your money. Definitely a must stop place. We didn't try the pizza but plan to next time. The place was busy all evening. There are only about 10 tables but they were full and there was a constant stream of take out and delivery orders. (Pick-up/to-go order) I drive by this spot all the time, and I finally decided to give it a try! Their direct online ordering was so easy and seamless. Their menu huge - couldn't decide what I wanted! I ended up with a lot, so I could try multiple items and have leftovers. I got a pizza with mushrooms and pineapple and an order of spaghetti with fresh pomodoro sauce. Both were great! The crust on the pizza had a nice chew to it with lots of gooey cheese. There wasn't much sauce on the pizza, but they were generous with the toppings. The pasta was clearly homemade and fresh with lots of fresh basil to top it off. Well we finally found a great Italian spot in the Denver area! My family has been looking g for good Italian for a few years now here in Denver and we have usually been disappointed until we tried Bella Italia the other night. We were really impressed. It's a small, mom and pop's place in a strip mall on the east side of Colorado Blvd, but wow were we impressed. Food was incredible! We ordered the garlic knots as an app and then had the fettuccine, the tri-colored ravioli, and also the seafood pasta and everything was great. Even the desserts! We loved the homemade tastes and it felt like we could have been somewhere in southern Italy! Will definitely be back. read more

When I heard Bella Italia had taken over the space occupied by Papou's, I cursed the landlord, but had to move on. However, people were talking up Bella Italia, and my son was demanding pizza, so we decided to check it out. The space looks brighter and more comfy, but remains tiny. A soda fountain beckons, with a fridge of canned/bottled choices for backup. Our server was friendly and brought out fountain drinks in actual glasses, not plastic cups. We forgot to ask if these were self-serve, as we didn't get to refills. Fried calamari proved above average, surpassing rubber band grade, but not quite the bee's knees. Paired with marinara, we were satisfied. Pizza with red sauce, pep, mush & Canadian bacon raised the stakes a bit. Thin crust offered a firm, but not quite crunchy texture. Mozzarella said "quality," echoed by the meats. I dug the sauce, and could not tell if a hint of onion came from it or from the crust. No matter--I liked it. I don't understand the Denver trend of labeling NY Style pies as "Neapolitan," though. What's up with that? The rest of the menu offers plenty of solid choices. Food at other tables looked tasty. Some things don't jibe. First, there is a 75 cent charge for "Extra's" like parmesan and the picture shows Kraft parm. This can't win anyone over. Kraft? That has cellulose, also used in sponges. Translation: If I want parmesan on my food, tough luck. Paying extra for low-grade parm doesn't compute. Second, the menu could use a proofreader's attention. Overall, we liked the food and service, but any return trip will be for takeout simply because the space is tight and I have quality parmesan cheese at home at no charge. 3 stars. read more

Drove a ways away from home for this place because they had fairly good ratings and my favorite, Chicken Piccata. Almost missed my turn because they are a bit hard to find. The gentleman at the front desk was very kind. They were out of raspberry tiramisu, my aunt didn't want a backup, so he said they would leave a note for their manager to refund. A bit disappointed they could not refund on the spot, but understandable. Onto the food. My nana got Chicken Parmesan with a Caesar Salad and Salted Caramel Cheesecake. I got the Chicken Piccata exactly as it comes with a side order of the Ravioli. My aunt got the Chicken Piccata and a vodka sauce on her pasta. My nana said everything she ordered was delicious, she had absolutely no complaints and considering how she is a picky eater that meant a lot. For my food I don't quite understand how you have a lemony caper sauce on the chicken but then put marinara sauce on the Penne pasta, it just didn't add up and it made the dish taste weird. They had other sauce options but not the lemon caper sauce that was on the chicken so it seemed pointless to switch the sauce if it wasn't going to match the sauce of the main dish. In addition to that, who pairs this dish originally with Penne pasta? Now I will admit this was my fault, they allow you to switch the pasta types. For some reason in my head I was thinking penne was Angel hair, even though I know what each pasta is, my brain just wasn't working while I was ordering. The pasta ultimately is what ruined the entree for me, the chicken was pretty decent. The ricotta cheese inside of the ravioli was odd, I would have preferred a mozzarella or other form of cheese. I just wasn't all that impressed with their food, they made odd ingredient selections that did not play out in their favor. read more

They brought out complimentary garlic knots. We ordered ceasar salad, rice balls, chicken picatta and a large Suprema pizza!!!! My absolute favorite was the picatta! My goodness was it the best thing I've ever had. It was the first time I've had red sauce on the spaghetti accompanied with the picatta. Yummy!!! We ordered a lot but the portions were enormous. We had so mich to take with us. The next day my 25-year old son and I faught over the spaghetti. DESSERTS - Don't leave without the tiramisu and a peanut butter cup cookie. I'M DONE. We have driven my this place numerous times on our way to the grocery store. Having read the reviews, we were looking for a new place to enjoy dinner. First, the server was outstanding in making sure that we felt welcomed. Second, we started with a glass of house rose wine that we shared. For an appetizer, we order the garlic bread. You could taste how fresh the bread was. For our main dish, we ordered Baked Cannelloni and asked to split the order We are glad that we split the order. We each received three large baked cannelloni. The cylindrical type of lasagna is stuffed with Ricotta cheese. Then covered in their House Marinara Sauce, with shredded Mozzarella on top and baked. Their marinara sauce is made to perfection. It was light with the right amount of spices. To close the dinner, we ordered the Chocolate Lobster Tail to go. The crispy exterior shell is made with hundreds of crunchy pastry layers, a middle layer of cream puff dough, and an interior filling of Chocolate Italian cream. Then topped with Chocolate and sprinkled with hazelnut crunchies. It was huge. The following day, we shared the wonderful dessert with our son and his family. The smiles on their faces told the story of this dessert. As a family-owned business, we believe in going to them. And, if you are looking for a truly authentic Italian restaurant, look no further than Bella Italia. It's far better than the national chain of the other Italian restaurants. What an unexpected find! Located in the middle of an old strip mall on Leetsdale sits this little dive with some surprisingly incredible Italian food! Look, this place is nothing fancy. It's not a first date type of place...it's more like the place you go once you're an old married couple. And that is 100 meant as a compliment! Everything in this small restaurant is meant to be unassuming, welcoming, and comforting - and it is! The servers are incredibly friendly and attentive, the menu is exactly what you'd expect - nothing too creative - and the food is downright comfort food! They have several sauces which I believe you can get on any of their dishes. We started with the cheesy garlic bread, which tastes as if it has some creamy secret ingredient that I couldn't quite put my finger on. For entrees, I had the lasagna and my son had the chicken Alfredo. Both were fantastic! The portions are large so we both took home half our meal for leftovers (bonus!). Of course, we couldn't leave without taking home dessert: a limoncello cake which was light and airy while also being super creamy, and a chocolate peanut cup cookie. Yum! The chefs are Sicilian and it shows in the authenticity of every bite from the appetizer to the desserts! Really good pizza for an Italian restaurant. Slice of pizza is big, so it is worth the $6 a slice. Lasagna was on point although I would have liked more ricotta cheese in it. Maybe this is more of a Bolognese lasagna than traditional?? Marinara sauce is good. Was going to get the rice balls but didn't want to pay $13 for it. I think meat sauce should be on the side not filled in the rice ball...just my preference. Food was a little on the pricey side, but it was worth it for the quality of the food. They have a small wine list, but I thought the selections and prices were more than fair. We had a group of eight, so we got to try a lot of the different items, their garlic knots were to die for. This place is adorable and intimate though small. It's a family owned restaurant that offers dine in as well as delivery. I had the shrimp with garlic pasta which was delicious. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the shrimp was complimented wonderfully by the fabulous garlic sauce. The service as the best and everyone that worked there was incredibly nice.
