The opening of this restaurant was much anticipated as it is located in an historic JCPenney space in downtown Maryville. It's predecessor restaurant, Sullivans, was a popular go to spot. Bella was heavily advertised as being Italian. The Decour is modern, spacious and inviting with. Interesting fixtures hanging from the ceiling. I took a friend for her birthday for lunch. I was disappointed in that there was almost nothing on the menu that was Italian. I realize it was way over budget after they encountered some problems with construction, and I'm sure they will adjust their menu as time goes by and revenue increases. We ended up eating hamburgers - not very Italian. The birthday celebration however was amazing!!! It even had a sparkler and some delicious hot square donuts with different sauces to dip it in, and it was "gratis"! I attended another event there that was for a business meeting upstairs. I can't blame the restaurant necessarily, but with some 100+ people present there wasn't one chair to sit on. Everyone stood and ate with plates mostly in their hands. I will try again for dinner and give some time for things to settle. I think Our town would benefit from an authentic Italian restaurant. Restaurant location is cool in downtown Maryville. Parking is easy. Building and decor is really modern and nice. Service is awesome and food all has a really unique touch. The space is open and your eyes are immediately drawn to large hanging lamps and a spectacular 1-story high bar stacked with shimmering liquor bottles and glasses. A cart rumbles up to the table next to yours, and you watch as the waiter pours alcohol into a ladle, heats the bottom of the ladle with a flame, pours it into a gigantic wheel of cheese and sets it on fire! The result: macaroni and cheese sides for the table. I've been here 3 times since it opened and I think they're hitting their stride. It's such a luxury feeling to order the fig smash cocktail and sip it while enjoying your private booth. I love that they also have mock tail options if you're driving or not a drinker. We've ordered the filet, the sirloin, and the salmon. If you like your steak medium rare like me, I suggest ordering rare as they have a tendency to overcook if ordered medium rare. Other than that, we have thoroughly enjoyed the entrees. I've ordered the house bubbly which puzzled me- instead of being served in a flute, they're served in wide cocktail glasses. With so much surface area exposed, the bubbles escape quickly, leaving you with a flat drink. I will need to revisit after my next meal AT Bella-- we got a take-out order for our first meal from them and while it was excellent, I don't think I can dole out five stars for carry-out. And to be really picky- they didn't have any online ordering system, which would have been nice. They were pleasant, accurate and food was ready on time so I can't quibble much. THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC-- although they were out of the roman artichokes which we had especially lusted for! We had the veal, rigatoni and octopus, and they threw in some ravioli since they were out of the artichokes. All of the dishes were wonderful. Some of the best food I've had in Blount county. They kept a lot about the look of the old building which I appreciate. They upgraded the bar and seating areas and painted the brick a nice off white. The service was good, but you could tell the staff was still figuring everything out. Give them another month and I think the service will be flawless. The old fashioned is very much like the one they serve at Kefi, while the house red wine has a very light, mild flavor with a clean finish. The latte is very good and finishes a meal nicely. The filet and veal were to die for. The tenderest pieces of meat paired with the perfect sides and just the right amount of food. The focaccia appetizer was light and fluffy, drizzled with olive oil, and served with pesto, roasted garlic, and goat cheese. The food was so good we couldn't save room for dessert but look forward to saving that for another trip. Looking around I saw a lot of people ordered the fries and it was a huge bowl. Found this place on a whim and drove up to check it out. The building and decor are beautiful. Our waiter was friendly and helpful in recommending dishes. My husband got the Veal Marsala, which we would order again in a heartbeat! It was amazing! I ordered the table side pasta. I only wish I would have ordered it as a side because it was super rich. You definitely want a meat or something to kind of balance that. We tried the apple and lemon dessert and were absolutely happy with everything. I was thinking of choosing this restaurant to host my wedding dinner at. With that said I had scheduled out a phone call with one of the event coordinators. They are very put together with their menu, scheduling, and service. However when explaining how I am inquiring on pricing and getting a feel for the different restaurants in the area, and this particular one wasn't my choice at the end of the informative call. The gentleman who I was speaking to proceeded to ask what restaurant I am planning on going with and then stated "you get what you pay for".... To sum it up, that's a very improper and unprofessional comment to make when speaking on the phone to a prospect client. I'm not sure why a comment like that was needed, but certainly did not appreciate it. Update: Spoke to the new manager Jim, who was a very kind and helpful guy! We discussed the whole incident with the event planner and he was very kind and offered to send a "dinner on us". Every single item on the menu is fantastic. My favorites are the meatballs that are a combination of sausage, veal, beef and pork, the grilled octopus, the filet with a Gorgonzola butter that swims over the meat, the Pappardelle pasta that has a kick to it and the burger which has applewood smoked bacon, brandy caramelized onions and a chili aioli, it's juicy and melts in your mouth. First, our Server Mackenzi was amazing! A few issues I had with this establishment. The prices on the lunch menu published on their website are different when you get into the restaurant. One of the pasta dishes was actually priced Six dollars more than the published menu on their website. On average the mark-up was 3-4 dollars more once they got you in the restaurant. I brought their price differences up to our amazing server and I heard her tell the owner. He didn't bother to price match their published prices. I felt like it was a trip to lure people in. My champagne was old and served with no bubbles. Luckily they took that off my bill. My panini had not been pressed. It was fried on a grill like a patty melt. The manager and owner didn't even bother to come to our table to ask us how our food and experience was. Lastly, a homely group of 4 came in and the first thing out of the hosts mouth was "do you have reservations." My mom and I were literally the only patrons there. We dropped about a grand at this place on my birthday back in January but do not have any plans on returning anytime soon. read more

My wife and I decided to check this place out for our anniversary. We'd heard some good things. It was mixed. I got the special which was a NY Strip steak with a wine demiglaze, "whipped" potatoes (not mashed, whipped, lol), and roasted broccolini. First off, Broccolini is actually one of my favorite vegetables. So glad it wasn't carrots and something else (not a fan of cooked carrots). The steak was big, which was nice, but I asked for it medium and it came medium rare. It definitely had that purple/dark red so I had them cook it some more and it was better, not perfect, but good enough. The fat on this though was not melty. To me, a good steak will have some fat but it will be melty. I normally eat the WHOLE thing - when the fat is a good texture and melts in your mouth. I definitely left some on the plate. The demiglaze was lacking. Flavor was ok, but it was literally two teaspoons. I got like 3 bites of steak with it. My wife got the filet with gorgonzola and rosemary sauce. It came with seasoned roasted fingerling potatoes and I believe the menu said "roasted vegetables" (whereas mine said broccolini) which ended being the broccolini. She also asked for medium and it was on the edge of medium rare, but overall good enough for her. The sauce really was a great sauce and there was enough of it. The potatoes were much better than my whipped yukon golds. The whipped ones would be a lot better if they added some rosemary and/or garlic or something. They were just potatoes. She started with the Beet Salad which she thought was amazing. The biggest disappointment was dessert. We got tiramisu. It was Costco tiramisu. I don't mean their good tiramisu cake, I mean the set of 6 parfait style glasses. First of all, we were getting it to go and the waiter informed us it comes with a scoop of gelato. So we said we'd take that there and the tiramisu to go. The gelato was good - vanilla. Who serves tiramisu with gelato? It helps justify the $10 price at least. But then he brings out the tiramisu in two glasses and it looks like a parfait. I thought "that looks like the ones we bought at Costco for like $8 FOR SIX OF THEM. We take them home and they TASTE like the ones at Costco, which aren't great. There's a really different kind of funk in the marscapone or whatever cheese they use. The marscapone we use when we make it doesn't taste that way. Also, they served it with a little "whipped cream" - it tasted like cool whip. It had that fake flavor. Afterwards I realized it would have been more worth it to drive to the Cheesecake factory and get a Godiva chocolate cheesecake with REAL whipped cream on it for $8. All in all, I might try it again, but a different menu item for sure. I had a better steak (although, it was a ribeye) at Black Horse Brewery - more tender, better flavor, and cheaper by $3 but I get to pick my side. My wife said her meal was worth the $40....I'd say maybe $35 (it was a filet after all...and a good sized one) read more
