We had an early birthday dinner at Bistro by the Tracks and it was excellent from start to finish. The new location has a warm, intimate ambiance, and our server Gordon was knowledgeable and guided us perfectly through the menu. We started with the Sashimi-Grade Tuna Tostada and Banana Pepper Pimento Cheese--both standout starters with elevated, fresh flavors. For salads, we had the Local Kale Caesar and Farmers Market Salad, which were both well-balanced and fresh. For entrées, we ordered the Border Springs Farm lamb and American Wagyu butcher's cut steak. Both were cooked perfectly to medium-rare--tender, rich, and full of flavor. Dessert was just as impressive, with a chocolate pecan cake and an Italian sponge cake with bright strawberry and basil notes. Disappointed. Came here with a group who had dinner reservations and I stayed for just drinks in the bar. I asked the hostess at the time about the possibility for vegan options and she went over the menu with me and talked about how menu items could be adjusted for my needs. Fast forward to making reservations tonight. I believe the menu had changed, but there still should have been some way to take things that were in the kitchen and make something that wasn't just "plain vegetables" for a couple of vegans. We ended up with plain French fries, boiled peanuts, kale salad that was literally "just kale" to make it vegan, "loaded roast potatoes" that were just "roasted potatoes" and a vegetable main dish that was basically a charcuterie board with some pea hummus with some roasted veggies on it. We mentioned to the server that the pile of kale that was provided to us could have been augmented by some other items in the kitchen instead of just a plate of shredded kale placed before us. Fortunately, I travel with my own salad dressing based on low expectations so we were able to down said "shredded kale plate". During the interaction she told us that there are people that "just like to eat lettuce". We are not such said people and I don't personally know of any people like that. The evening was pleasant. We witnessed what appeared to be the manager going around the bar and interacting with other customers in the bar while we had a pre-dinner drink there. We had hopes that he might come over to our table, or the server, who was new, might send him our way, so we could provide this feedback to him. But, that didn't happen and we're not the types to ask "to speak to the manager" so here we are. I also realize that this is Knoxville, and not the most vegan-friendly City in the world. But for a restaurant of this caliber, I had higher expectations. We enjoyed the atmosphere and service immensely! Fantastic cocktails in a handsomely appointed lounge to start, then a lovely slow meal in their dining room. Cannot say enough about their servers! Our meal, while tasty, was too small to be billed "for two"-- one short rib each felt too small. We would return and try a different meal. read more

Prior to being seated, my boyfriend and I were met with the loveliest jazz music being played live. The hostess was visibly pleased to seat us. She ensured everything was prepped and pristine while making us comfortable. The service was prompt and attentive during the entire meal. I chose the bouillabaisse with onions, garlic, and peppers; accompanied by the best bread ever. My boyfriend enjoyed his medium filet, which was juicy and tender. About last nights dinner....fantastic dining experience!! Hubby and I had drinks at the bar, then met friends for our 7pm reservation. We were greeted by a lovely hostess who escorted our group to the perfect table for us. Shortly afterwards, we were greeted by our server, Sebastian, who was absolutely amazing. He welcomed us, took our drink order, explained the menu in great detail and suggested some of his favorites dishes. We chose several of his suggestions and were very pleased with them all, including the dessert ( ?? pie). I can't remember the exact name of it, but it's the only "pie" on the menu (just ask for the pie with the graham cracker crust). DO NOT pass up this dessert, it is sinfully delicious . Salmon entree was basic but missing some flavor and veggies were a tad under done. No one rushed us and quiet night there so we hung out over drinks and visited. Never felt rushed which was nice. On a busy night might have been an issue as we held up the table. Made sure a really nice tip so the server was covered. Street parking was available but was sure to drive my friend to her car as she parked a ways away and wanted to be safe. I think I just had the best crab cakes of my life...I also had the mushroom gnocchi which would have earned 5 stars but then I ordered the crab cakes too because I was eyeing the jalapeño grits and ginger carrots which accompany it and...amazing! How do they stay together with so much crab, I didn't taste any filler like others. Arrived in town via flight after 730pm. Stayed at the Courtyard Marriott nearby so we walked down to the Bistro. We were promptly seated and our server greeted us shortly after. I hate I don't remember her name but she was spot-on with recommendations and made sure we had refills as needed. I had the crispy skin salmon with a side of new potatoes. That was some of the best salmon I've ever put in my mouth! The mixed greens that accompanied the meal were more of a garnish and not a side dish but they were good. The potatoes were good too and came in a little skillet. We really loved the bread they served prior to the meal. This is a nice spot for a romantic dinner or meal with friends. read more

Our first time here at the new location. I'll start by saying everything was perfect, except the noise level. My wife and I arrived earlier than our friends we were meeting so we sat at the bar. The whole place has a really relaxing, cozy old world vibe. The bar has an impressive selection of spirits, although we enjoyed a glass of wine. I had an excellent Pinot Noir. When our friends arrived, we were immediately seated. The dining room is small, and has the same elegant atmosphere. However, the noise level made it difficult to hear each other. Service was outstanding throughout the meal. Our server was friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. My wife and I started by sharing a lettuce salad. It was plated separately for us, and had a great fresh taste. They put the dressing on the side for you to decide how much you want to use. For my meal, I had the fresh catch of the day, red snapper with roasted veggies. It had a wonderful pan-fried, crispy outside and a delicate flavor. The mixed veggies were cooked perfectly. We shared a side of the roasted carrots at our servers suggestion, and weren't disappointed. My wife and I finished our meal by sharing the snickerdoodle pie with pickled blueberries. One of the most unique and delicious desserts I've had. I would highly recommend this place. Although, depending on your budget, it would be more of a special occasion restaurant. read more

Long story short.., my boyfriend and I arrived around 8:30p on a Sat night after dinner elsewhere with friends (celebrating his 40, large group) we wanted a night cap, fancy/intimate/just us. Well it was packed. We were greeted and I knew from 20yrs of service myself that the chances of getting in were slim before we even walked into smaller/local establishment. Needless to say, they were full up. HOWEVER; they greeted us kindly and politely expressed the wait and gave several options to wait for a seat, at the standing bar and would collect for us for our after hour drinks until we could sit. We only left because we hadn't checked out the neighboring new bar. Otherwise, 100 would have stayed. This was my first visit here. Maybe dinner is amazing but brunch was just a huge dissapointment. There was a 15 min wait compaired to the 2-3 hour wait everywhere else, now i know why. Our server Mime was very attentive and gave some good advise. There were 3 other tables in the restaurant. It took 50 minutes to get our food. The plate.pictured was $14. They somehow poached the eggs where the white didnt set but the yolk was medium. ‍Also had a really hard time cutting the english muffin. I really needed a steak knife. I have to start off my review with giving props to our waiter, Yarek. He was what made my experience better. I think it was something about his demeanor or his swagger that he had that made him stand out compared to the other waiters we saw. We came here for my birthday dinner, and it was an interesting experience. The food was good, there were some things that we didn't agree with, but the overall experience of eating here was good. Supposedly this place was a new location, the previous location was where it was next to tracks. We had a little difficulty in finding the front door as it was super tinted and there wasn't quite a sign that said "this is the entrance". I understand that the sun was shining through and it would get the front of the restaurant hot so is why the front was so dark. However, there could be more visibility for the restaurant if there was something on the glass doors. The Food: We started off with a cheese plate and the for the mains I ordered the Prime Ribeye and the lovely gf ordered the Moulard Duck. Because let's be honest, no burger should cost that much. I mean, really? I believe it was about $19? Anyways, if you come here I hope that's not your choice. There are a ton of better burger spots. Our appetizer was a little bit of a disappointment. It had only a couple of cheeses and two meats along with some fois gras, mustard, some celery type of thing, chocolate mixed with something else and some walnuts. I would think when an appetizer named Cheese and Charcuterie it would be more stacked with cheese and meats. The chocolate part just didn't fit in the dish as well as the walnuts and celery type of vegetable. I mean the plate had mustard to substitute as a meat or cheese... I was just sort of surprised that it would have made the dish itself. The Prime Ribeye was tasty. I think it was a good portion of food. The one problem I had with my plate was that the plating was huge! I mean the food didn't fill the plate itself so what was left was just a ton of empty white plating. I understand it gives good presentation, but if there were smaller plating it would give a feeling of a bigger portion. This just made me feel that there was something else missing in the dish. The garlic mash potatoes that the Ribeye was resting on was good though. The Moulard Duck was also tasty (I stole a bite). To me, it was a little on the salty side. Duck is hard to prepare which gave me a feeling of staying away from that option. But overall it wasn't bad. Lastly for dessert we had the Mexican Hot Chocolate which was delicious. It had this kick at the end of each bite. It wasn't like an instant spicy on your tongue, it was more of a soothing spiciness in such that it filled you up with warmth type of heat. I thought it was interesting and it was an experience that I don't get to experience often. My whole experience was good. It was about the person I was with and it was memorable, and a great start to my 27th year. read more

Took my work team for a group dinner last Wednesday nite. All 8 of us where brought right to our table and the night was outstanding. Service Great! Never had to wait for our water to get low. I had the salad wedge - OMG they flavor was excellent. For the main course I had the Bison Burger and it also had such flavor I ate every bite. The rest of the group also had very good things to say about their meals. When in Knoxville, this will be my new got to spot! read more

Review on my first visit to Bistro By The Tracks last night: Early Mother's Day dinner for hubby, mom and I. Called about 530 and made reso for 830. Host gentleman who took phone call was very nice and simply enjoyable to have a conversation with. Upon arrival, the same gentleman sat us immediately and was very welcoming and kind. Server took severaaaalll minutes to even get to us to say anything, which made us wonder for a bit if we had been forgot. It was VERY busy there even that late in the night, but I wasn't expecting anything less. Our server (Anthony?), seemed rushed, talked fast even for me to understand (and I'm from up north where that's "our thing" lol), and had a foul odor coming off his body (I've worked in restaurants for 12 years and get that you get sweaty and hot, but this was just off-putting for a "higher end" establishment). The evenings specials were not explained well, told with any care, etc. Just rambled off with the price and then asked what do you want? For the food, the complimentary bread was great and that butter (assuming homemade) was to die for. We started with the $6 for 5 Gougeres, like French choux dough stuffed with cheese and Benton's ham. Very good size and yummy for the price. Hardly noticed any ham though, but it was still good with the cheese regardless. Main entrees ordered were the special halibut with lemon burre blanc sauce, homemade pasta with added grilled chicken on top, and the duck quarter with port stewed cherry and apple fennel slaw. 1) duck-VERY small portion, looked like it should be an appetizer. Wish the cherries would be completely, or at least somewhat, made into a sauce, because the whole little pieces of them were hard to blend with the duck and get in one bite together (without having to work at it). Slaw was literally one stabbed forkful. 2) pasta- you could tell was homemade, but sauced like it was just coated with butter/oil with no flavoring, and not sauced at all. I mean, we knew it wasn't going to be Olive Garden, but something POW was missing. 3) halibut-cooked to perfection, great skin crisp, but it was literally a piece of fish with burre blanc sauce (which of course doesn't really look like anything since it's butter and basically melts in-the sauce that was on the plate made us think "so, sauce is a side now?") for $30. *We also ordered two sides: glazed Brussels sprouts-pretty under seasoned and half were hard to eat without hurting your teeth, and truffle fries-probably the best thing we all had that night! Drink wise had a mai tai, endless summer and whiskey sour cocktails, all very good. Didn't order dessert but took a pic of menu just because. Ambiance very upscale modern sheek, but SO LOUD! Didn't notice any sound absorbing panels on walls, or anything to help with noise. Hard to hear each other at close table for 3. Total for dinner (3 entrees, 2 sides, 1 appetizer (the cheapest one) and 3 cocktails) was $135 before tip. I'd maybe go back if someone insisted on going, for a special occasion, etc. but not a regular thing. read more
