I purchased a Groupon for 2 Facial or Microderm. I went in yesterday and loved it! Claire is an awesome esthetician! Since I have mild eczema and might have rosacea she recommended my first treatment be a standard facial and then depending on how my face reacts to that, to do a microderm on second visit. Claire was so gentile and all of her products are all natural and non-fragrant, but still smell amazing. So far my face feels light and I can feel the black pores that were lifted from the extractions. The redness and red bumps are more noticeable today after the facial which I suspected but I'm sure that's because of the extractions which Claire also noticed that the area was sensitive. I'll be making my second appointment for 4 weeks and I'm looking forward to some great results. She also made a great recommendation on a cream for the rosacea. A couple of things to take note: - I'm not sure if there's parking behind but you can find plenty of street parking on the off streets. - She's behind the Bella Salon and the entrance to her studio, which is beautifully decorated, is up the side stair case. I got a chemical peel that gave me an allergic reaction, so instead of getting a smooth clear looking skin I look like I am 16 again full of acne, still struggling with the marks. I understand this can happen, but what's annoying is how unprofessional she is. When I told her about my reaction her response was so unconcerned and then she just stop responding completely. This happened after many times of her canceling my appointments last minute, I would literally be driving there and she would text me saying she was not going to see me. BEWARE GROUPON BUYERS. She will cancel your appointment last minute because she has too many "Groupon appointments". I read the fine print before buying the Groupon (see pictures attached). Her schedule was quite full for weeks, which I'm assuming is due to the Groupon deal. I scheduled my appointment days in advance and I requested to leave work early so I could make it in time. Well I received a text a couple of hours before my appointment saying that she had to cancel because she had too many Groupon appointments and that the deal was for new customers only (I had gotten a facial there I believe 4-5 years ago). I sent her a screenshot of the fine print which states that an appointment is required and you can schedule it via her website. Nowhere on the fine print does it say to contact her before scheduling or that the deal is for new customers only. She never bothered to respond. I understand she's trying to run a business but a little courtesy and friendliness goes a long way. Customer service is clearly not her expertise. I had purchased a Groupon for a facial. First big negative was that when I tried to call to make an appointment her message stated that she only communicates via text message or email and to not leave a message. WTF?!? So the communication was very poor after that and she never even responded to my last email about picking another date for our appointment. She just sent an email with a time slot, so I decided to stick to it. On the day of my appointment she did not show up to the salon and I was outside her door waiting for 15 minutes. I called her phone and it said it was "temporarily out of service." This was the day after the 4th of July, by the way. Only later when I got back home that evening did I check my email and saw she had sent me an email that morning cancelling our appointment, stating that she "was sick with fever." Yeah right. Or was it the convenience of a holiday weekend and a lowly Groupon client instead? Either way, just from the poor communication skills and last-minute cancellation, I would not re-book and requested a refund of my Groupon. Please don't take away my man-card. My wife treated me to my first ever facial and I am so glad she did. When we first arrived under the guise that I was taking my wife to her facial appointment, my wife surprised me by saying that the facial was for me. The first thoughts in my mind were "Men don't do facials" and "Is it going to hurt?". Allow me to assure you that facials don't hurt. Bella Skin is on the first floor of an office building surrounded by other hair care, salons, and beauty shops. Bella Skin is a small sanctuary equipped with a comfortable table, relaxing music, and all the necessities for your skin. Claire is the owner and the person who does the facials and other skin related treatments. She made my first experience a pleasant one and assured me that my experience would be pain free. Claire told me that my facial would be relaxing and was it ever. For the next 60 minutes, Claire applied a variety of creams and lotions onto my face and upper shoulders. It was really refreshing and my face felt revived. Her massaging of my face and shoulders really did relax me, where at one point during the facial, I almost fell asleep. She did some squeezing on my face that wasn't painful at all. She even put something over my eyes, which reminded me of those tv images where I see people with cucumbers over their eyes. Claire made my first experience a really good one and now I know why women swear by facials. It's no wonder women keep this a secret from us men. Horrible. We bought a Groupon for here and made her appointments to get a chemical peel and micro dermabrasion. They texted to confirm the night before. Our appointment was at 4 and 445 . That day at about two we get a text message not a call from the technician that was supposed to be doing our facials. She said that she's going to have to reschedule for today or at a later time. Absolutely horrible. We took off work for this and I am pretty sure if the tables were turned and we were no-shows we would be charged a no-show fee. So this review is based solely on my experience trying to book an appointment with her. I bought her groupon for a microdermabrasion and peel. On groupon it says to go to a website to schedule, then when you go to the website it tells you to either text or email her... oookay... So I text her. Wait 24 hours. No response. So I text again to make sure the number is correct, and she texts back just saying that she doesn't have availability for groupon clients for at least two weeks and asks me to text her my availability two weeks from now. So I text her back and give my availabilty saying that I'm "pretty flexible". I don't hear back but I check my email and she had just scheduled me for a random date and time without texting me to confirm it or anything. I said I was "pretty flexible" not just wide open. So I text her back saying that time/day doesn't work for me. So that's when I decide to check the yelp reviews and it turns out lots of people have communication problems with her. I decided to just get my groupon refunded, the whole experience was very strange and impersonal. Like she will only communicate through text or email? And even then she hardly responds. I let her know I was just going to cancel and get a refund and of course no reply. IF I COULD POST ZERO STARTS, I WOULD! First off, scheduling with Claire was difficult. She takes at least 24 hours or more to get back to you. I had to send a follow up text asking if she received my original text. 2 hours before my appointment with Claire, she sent me a text saying she had "pluming issues" at her apt and had to cancel my appointment. I rescheduled for a week later which was again, difficult (Same issues as above). On the day of my 9:30am appointment, she sent me a text about an hour before my appt saying she was running late and could I come in 45 minutes later than scheduled..I said yes. I showed up to my appointment right on time. As instructed, I sent a text to Claire letting her know I have arrived and that I am waiting outside for her. I waited 25 minutes past my scheduled appointment time!! She did not greet me nor text me to tell me she was still running late. After 25 minutes of waiting, I left! It has been 24 hours and I NEVER received a text or call from Claire wondering where I went nor apologizing!! THIS IS SO UNPROFESSIONAL! I wanted to like this place because its close by my house. I bought a groupon to see Claire for a Jessner/ TCA peel. My first appointment went great, I really liked her. I was running a bit late so I text her and she was running late to so no biggie. The peel was fine, burned, but to be expected. I let her know I was getting married the following weekend so she did a lighter peel just to be safe. While there she booked me for my follow up appointment 7 days later that comes with the package I had purchased. I went to my appointment the following week. I had text her saying I was running just a bit behind so she didnt think I was not showing up. I never heard from her and when I got there, she wasnt around. I text her, and then went to the front desk and they called her as well. No response. I never heard from her that night and a week later, still no response. Just very unprofessional. I get that things come up, but a reply or an apology would be nice. Not only did I NOT get the rest of what I had paid for but I had peeling skin for my wedding day... lovely. I write this review as someone who never had a chemical peel. Indeed, I've had microdemabrasion and waxing, but nothing invasive. I purchased the BuyWithMe deal (TCA/Jessner Peel, Microdermabrasion, and followup MiniFacial) and figured "why not?" I was nervous because I started reading reviews on chemical peels and how peels can cause allergic reactions, scarring, and redness/peeling. After I made my appointment, I wrote Claire an email asking about my fears. She promptly responded with some brochures on peels and offered to do a patch test 48 hours before my scheduled peel. She was EXTREMELY accommodating, professional, and friendly. We set up a patch test after her last appointment of the day. She spoke with me about the chemical peel process and made me feel better about what I was getting in to. Yes, there would be peeling, but not the bright redness one sees on those makeover shows. Thankfully, I didn't have an allergic reaction and the peel, microdermabrasion, and followup mini-facial went without a hitch. Claire was open about emailing her at any time with questions/concerns. Even though I have move to LA since May 2012, I always will try my best to drive down to San Diego just to see her. I am almost relunctant to review her for my own selfish reason of giving my secret away and fear that she get so booked up that I won't be able to get an appointment. Being Asian, it's very difficult to find someone who understand Asian skin tone without getting horrifically scarred or browning. Yet, Claire really knows her stuff and she can work with different kind of skin and adjust the type of peel and strength according to my needs. So far I had TCA, salicylic acid, glycolic, lotus peel, etc. with her, and the results have been consistently outstanding. The price may be a little steep, but it's definitely well worth the money and she's someone you can trust. She is a one-man show and taking 24-48 hours to respond is not uncommon if you're self employed with no assistants. I got multiple chemical peels from Claire and she is high quality & TOP NOTCH! I had a scar on my face and that hyperpigmentation fell off with a peel. I had the Pumpkin Peel by Claire today at Bella and LOVED the entire experience. It was my first peel ever and was a great experience. I bought a chemical peel for my wife online and her experience with Bella Skin was horrible. My wife showed up a tad early for her PM appointment and the door to the studio was closed and locked. So my wife waited. And waited. And waited some more. Finally, a colleague nearby offered to call the owner. Not only had the owner completely forgotten about my wife's appointment, she stated in a matter-of-fact tone that she was with her daughter now so there was nothing she could do! How unprofessional! No offers to make it up for my wife - nothing. It didn't matter to her that my wife drove all the way from North County and cleared her schedule to make the appointment. It just goes to show how much this woman cares about her business - apparently not much at all. I feel bad writing a bad review, but I have never left a spa treatment feeling so disappointed. I purchased a jessner/tca peel, microderm, mini facial through living social and I am so glad that I didn't pay full price. Getting a peel you want to feel at ease and confident in what your esthetician is doing, but Claire didn't make me feel that way. She seems bothered by any questions and in a hurry to get the appointment over with. After I left I tried calling and texted her because I felt so rushed out of there I forgot to leave a tip, but no response, when earlier that afternoon she asked if I could come earlier because she had a block of free time and when I said ok, she was able to text right back. The following day I had a question on treatment and scheduling the follow up (the 45 minute mini facial that is actually booked 10 days after the peel) and she still never returned my call...when I went back 10 days later for the mini facial when I arrived she thought I was there for a peel, which made me nervous. I lied down, she washed my face and did extractions and then done in 30 minutes (I didn't even care the service was short 15 minutes, at that point I was ready to leave). Claire is amazing! My mother gave me a facial as a Mother's Day gift and I am so glad she did! I've had a couple facials in the past but none have ever been like this one. I am 48, very fair complected and had great skin until a few years ago when all of the sun damage emerged and i developed adult acne, too! Claire did micro-dermabrasion and then applied the TCA peel. The experience was relaxing except for a little discomfort which is to be expected. Claire gave great directions for after care. By day 2/3 i looked pretty scary(think bad sunburn) but other than being a bit itchy it was well worth the discomfort for the result. It's amazing how much more even my skins color and texture are.
