I went in for a Brazilian and an eyebrow threading, and, kid you not, the entire appointment (including getting my clothes on/off) lasted 15 min and cost $65. I'm all for efficiency, but she was not thorough. (Half a fold was untouched.) Maybe this is because my appointment got squeezed in? I called for a same day appointment, and got one in half an hr. I showed up 15 min early, and finished at my appointment start time. As soon as I left (which was when my appointment was supposed to start) she ushered a man into a room. (Probably/hopefully a different one than mine). She barged in twice; once as I was on the table checking her work, and again as I was putting my underwear on. (There was barely a knock before opening the door) I was totally exposed to the hallway, which is about a foot from the edge of the table. She will ask you to hold your folds and cheeks open. Maybe it's just me, but I found it kind of humiliating. This was my second Brazilian, so I didn't know what was protocol and so I didn't say anything, but at my last one, I've just been instructed to lay on my side. They also use cloth strips, so I guess they are washed and reused. The only reason this review didn't get a 1 star was because she was good and quick at threading. read more

I went in for a brazilian and arm wax and didn't have the greatest experience. First off, the lady did a decent job at removing all the hair (better than other "high end" establishments) but the professionalism was off. I was in the middle of a brazilian when I heard a couple light knocks followed by the door opening completely as I'm laying there spread eagle. There was no waiting for a "come in" or "just a minute". So I was thanking the God's that no other stranger walked by the door when that happened... So there I am suddenly left with all my parts on display to another woman who decided to come in and watch...not help out...watch and have a conversation with the woman who was doing the waxing. I'm not a shy person so it didn't bother me as much as annoy me at the vulgarity. The arm wax was the worst. After she was finished, she literally left patches of wax all over my arms. Literally, chunky patches! The woman at the front desk noticed and went in the back to get me a damp towel to try and get it off. Another HUGE thing I noticed that disgusted me and made me regret not just getting up and walking out was that they double dip! They don't use "individual pots" like other places but just the normal sized one meant for everyone. I was praying the following days that I wouldn't wake up with a weird rash or worse- something else.. After everything I was definitely not impressed with the service so I left a small tip- which I considered generous enough considering the experience. The woman then made a comment about having to split that between the 2 women that were in the room and didn't sound impressed about it, but news flash, the second woman who came in did nothing but watch and chat with the waxer. I even helped with holding my skin taut while the intruder woman just watched. Plus, not very professional to make a comment like that to a paying customer who was left with wax all over their arms that she even noticed with her own eyes. Overall, worst waxing experience of my life. Definitely won't be returning or recommending this place. read more

This place is open on Sundays! Sunday is the only day I get off. I took my friend for a day at the spa and it was nice for them to open up early just for us. I'm going to start with my experience. .. I booked for a microdermsbrasion but the lady talked me into a lumi facial, she says it's only a little bit more so I said yes let's try it (found out at the till it was twice as much!). It started off ok, facial massage with the micro was a bit painful but I was expecting that (lotion went in my mouth and she was very rough with the massage). Then came the lights of the lumi, omg it was like bright strobe lights non stop for 45 minutes! You have eye covers and your eyes closed but you can still see the crazy bright light strobe for so long!!! It was like going to a crazy dance club with a migraine but not being able to hear anything but faint tropical music, for 45 minutes that seemed it lasted 5 hours. The esthetician told me she had a Brazillian wax and she will come back (ugh yuck don't tell me that because I know you are going to touch my face after...), she came to check on me twice and I asked on the second time when am I done because I'm going crazy! She laughed and said 27 mins left. Holy moly I was in hell. Finally the whole thing stopped and she didn't come back for another 10 mins so I pushed the machine aside and sat up because I swear I was going to vomit. She came eventually and gave me a mask and left me for another 30 mins. Ok I don't like laying down for 2 hours unless I'm sleeping or having a 1.5 HR massage. After she removed my mask and wiped my face I left and was done (thank god). I came out and my friend who had a mani pedi &facial was done at the same time as me, said she loved it and had a great time so I was happy that she had a wonderful experience. I had a headache and nausea for 4 hrs after, plus I found crusty facial mask stuff in my hair. Bella Tonic offers a great service at a great price. $5 and 5 minutes later I have wicked eyebrows that I don't have to spend my time plucking (or worse at home waxing....terrible idea). My biggest issue is that the service is really hit or miss depending on the time of day you go and who you get as your threader. I have been there at least 10 times and have yet to be introduced or learn any of the girls names. Some might be too shy to talk because English isn't their first language, but either way there is minimal conversation. Also if you go during busy times (like any time after 5) it feels like the threading is rushed. If you can deal without bonding with your threader and knowing you will likely not get the same girl every time you go then check Bella Tonic out. The price can't be beat, and just so long as Millwoods isn't too far of a drive for you then it's worth it. read more

I always seem to have the worst luck; I visit the places with great reviews and don't like it. I guess I'm just pretty picky! Anyway, I visited Bella Tonic Spa exactly three times months ago (maybe a year or more ago). I went twice for eyebrows, and once for full face. I have to go in the evenings, since I live on the north side and have work. It was crazy busy all three times, but I managed to find a seat while waiting for my turn. The lady doing my brows rushed through them and took literally 3 minutes to finish. I looked in the mirror and was pretty disappointed that they were uneven, untrimmed, and had several hairs not removed. I told her about all three things, and she just looked at me confused. The one time I got my full face threaded was worse. Once again, it took her a few minutes, and there was A LOT of hair patches everywhere (I sound like I'm a gorilla, but I swear I'm not). I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, and went there two more times. Same problems. Its not worth the drive for me, or the price. I like my brows to be trimmed and clean, and my face to be almost hairless. If you're not too picky about your eyebrows/facial hair, give them a try. If you're like me, then I wouldn't recommend it. read more

After the first 2 times I was here I would have rate 4 stars, they did a nice job. Maybe it varies from aesthetician to aesthetician, but as someone who worked in a spa for over 6 years I have experienced threading and waxing services for many years. I usually get my brows threaded and sometimes my unsightly blonde moustache haha (I know I'm not the only gal!). Once they told me that the hair was too long so that they had to wax instead (yes not pretty I know). I said no because wax causes me to breakout, but they assured me it would not happen. I agreed and had my lip and brows waxed. I was then informed during my payment that I need to book in if I want waxing ... I understand that, but maybe ask me to wait instead of pushing a service on me and then trying to scold me for not booking. 2 days later I was sporting a pimple moustache. Horrible. Funny, but I was stuck inside the house for almost a week so that I didn't frighten small children. I returned several times making sure to trim any longer hairs around my brows and lip to ensure that I'd never leave looking like Shrek's wife. I have been blessed with bushy brows, but usually when I come here I walk out looking like Pamela Anderson in the 90s. They never use a toner or liquid exfoliant to close pores or remove any makeup (although you shouldn't wear makeup to these appts if possible). They don't educate clients for the 60 seconds it takes to tell you how to care for your skin after - I've never been anywhere that doesn't do this, and yes for us regulars maybe it is common sense but the poor people that don't know are at risk of developing bacterial infections and ingrown hairs. I think they could work on being more personable ... "Hi, how are you? What are we doing for you today?" vs "Come. Lay Down. Hold. Thanks"), and adding 1 minute to a service to put a toner on the skin. Also, it's a weird set up, after your face looks like a STOP sign you have to stand in a room of women staring while you pay. I have been here more times than I can count and have discontinued my services because nothing has improved. Yes it is cheap, yes it is fast, but you never know what you will get! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Worst customer service and actual threading I have ever encountered in my life. You would think that when you tell someone you want your eyebrows a certain way, they would do them that certain way. Here, I specified exactly what I wanted. She ended up making them crooked and one was too thin. I asked her if she noticed that they didn't look right and she tried to fix them. They got worse. I told her again that this wasn't right. She tells me to lie down again so she can "fix it". After that, I wasn't going to have her touch my face again. Both of my eyebrows were different shapes, one was too thin, and one started in a different spot than the other one. So I tell her I'm unhappy but don't want her doing anything else, and try to get out of there before she can inflict further damage. I get out to the front and the manager is working the till, and I tell her I am unhappy. She tries to convince me that there is nothing wrong with the way they look and get this... she does not want to tell her employee to come out and fix it because she DOES NOT WANT TO RUIN HER DAY. How about she's already ruined my face? She did nothing to understand what I was saying and tried to convince me that there was nothing wrong with my eyebrows and I was making it up. I wish there was an option to post a picture on this website... Absolutely horrible employee and an even worse manager. I wouldn't return even if someone paid me to do so. WORST place. I would LOVE to give Bella Tonic Spa a 5 star rating because I truly enjoy the general atmosphere. The staff is very genuine and and I truly believe they do their best. However, there is a huge important improvement that needs to be made: attention to detail. GOOD: I initially went to Bella Tonic Spa because they offered threading. I love threading for many reasons and refuse to get my eyebrows waxed. The staff is hugely skilled at the technique of eye brow threading and I get my eyebrows threaded once a month for $5 at Bella Tonic Spa. I love Emma (the only hair dresser who works at Bella Tonic Spa) who does an amazing job when doing hair. She pays attention to what you want and puts 100% effort into making sure everything is done properly. BAD: However, when I decided to get other parts of my face threaded (3 different occasions), each time there was no attention to detail and several sections of my face were carelessly ignored. The process seemed hugely rushed. I no longer get any type of threading done except for eyebrows. I decided to try a pedicure recently and was hugely disappointed because my nail polish was applied unevenly and on my skin, my feet were barely scrubbed, and I left with the same callouses I came in with. I used to go here to get a few things done. I've been a customer since they were in their old location and until they moved near Whitemud and 17th street. However, since there was a change in owner things have gone down hill. They do things really fast but not as clean and thorough. They don't open on time and they are no longer as friendly as they used too. I used to go for customer service and quality of service. Both gone! I was looking for a place that provided eyebrow threading services and I picked Bella Tonic Spa based on the reviews. I was rather disappointed when the girl spent less than 2 minutes on my eyebrows before sending me on my way. Perhaps they do it differently here in Edmonton, but at the salon I used to go to regularly in Vancouver, they'd not only thread your brows, but trim them too. Maybe it's because I visited on a weekend, but it wasn't the type of service I was expecting. I felt the girl merely threaded the sparse hairs and didn't do a thorough job of shaping them. I have been a customer for the last five years. Eyebrow threading costs $5. It cannot be beat. Their service is quick, efficient, and a great deal. However, if you are looking for more of an individual spa experience, this would not be for you. I get my eyebrows threaded every couple weeks and it takes about ten minutes. All the ladies are lovely and there is minimal conversation. They stick to the same shape of brow; therefore, it may work for some people but not for others. Also, I will admit that sometimes my eyebrows come out thinner than other times. But I have a lot of brow to play with. I have never tried any of their other services. I went in to get eyebrow threading and was in and out in less then five minutes. By all means I like efficient service but not at the compromise of quality. Customer service wise was awful - no introduction, nothing. There was little to no shaping done on my brows just cleaning up stray hairs, and afterwards they were uneven - which I pointed out so she took more off the top , which wasn't even where it was uneven. At this point I just gave up, paid and left. No concern for shape, style or suitability to face shape. Great place to get threading done. It is 5 dollars and takes about 10 min. The girls are great for that. There is no appointment necessary for threading. However, i also got a pedicure and it was not very good. It cost 50 and they just soaked my feet in water and painted my nails. No callous removal or anything. I will never go back here! I came in for a full leg wax and I thought everything was great, but NO! When they asked me to lay on my stomach so that the two ladies can wax the back of thighs and calves, all of a sudden right when the younger lady have put some wax and the cloth on my inner back thigh to pull the wax off, It felt as if I had just gotten the top layer of my skin off. Both inner thighs were feeling as if the skin just got ripped off so hard that it was stinging. At first, I thought everything was fine but minutes later when I was oiling my legs from the wax residue (which they didn't even clean up properly!) Both areas looked so red and inflamed! Days went on and I felt this irritation on my inner thighs. Just what I thought, they had burned my legs from ripping off the wax too aggressively and from the super hot wax they used. Now, I can't even keep my thighs close together when walking because it rubs together and it hurts so much!!! So if you want to go have yourself get burnt by wax! Go right ahead! but I will never come back here ever again!!! They have ruined my legs for life! Funny cause right when she pulled the wax, she knew that it had hurt me so she even said "I'm so sorry" and right after the session, that younger lady was out of the room and was no where near my sight because she knew she had damaged my skin. Threading appears to be their specialty. Occasionally I notice I have to touch up a few missed hairs with some tweezers when I get home but over all $5 for my brows is quite reasonable and it is rarely more than 10 minutes before I walk in. Some of the girls are better than others but I generally have a good experience with them. There is a fair amount of parking and the lady I always see at the front desk is a sweetheart. My boyfriend and I went in to get our eyebrows threaded. I have been there a few times before, however this was my first time with this specific woman. I went first, she took less then a minute and it was horrible pain. However my boyfriend went after, he was gotten it done a few times, however this time I have never seen him jump so much, and anyone be so rough on a costumer. She spent less then a minute on him also. He was bleeding a lot and his skin was bright red for two hours after, he kept saying how much pain he was in. The next morning there were huge gashes on top and underneath his eyebrows. It looks like he was beat up. It angers me. I would never recommend going here. Very unprofessional, and very rude, especially to men. I have seen numerous men there, and they always have complaints, if you don't want men in there say so. I am disgusted. read more

I had the worst waxing experience of my life at this place!!! I would not recommend going there for a Brazilian wax. I was in sooo much pain after and it literally hurt to walk for days. I don't think the lady working there knew what she was doing, she ripped off skin in multiple places and caused bleeding. It was a horrid experience. She also did my legs and left patches and wax all over. I know waxes typically hurt and I have a pretty high pain tolerance but this was unbelievable and unprofessional. I did more research and went to bliss yoga spa for a Brazilian after and it was like a walk in the park, nothing comparable to my experience at Bella tonic.I'm glad I didn't let my first wax experience ruin it for me. read more

The staff here are nice but watch out for the services!! I had a pedicure, manicure, threading, chemical peel and facial wax done. The threading and facial waxing was good and very quick but the pedicure was painfully slow and painful. The sides of my feet were scraped down so much that they had scabbing and hurt for at least the next week. My pedicure was no better. I ended up with 4 bleeding fingers from them cutting my cuticles too short and my 'french manicure' was not even done properly and was ruined by the end of that day. I have had french manicures done elsewhere that lasted a week with no chipping or smudging so I'm not sure why they couldn't do the same. The chemical peel only made my skin look and feel older even though I followed their after-care instructions to a T. I would recommend this place for the threading and waxing but for nothing else. read more

The only reason Bella tonic gets 2 stars is because the lady at the cash register was such a sweetheart I really wish I remembered her name. Walking in I was very impressed very comfortable atmosphere and welcoming I was only seated for less than a minute when the woman who was going to thread my eyebrows came through the door which was another positive but after that my experience wasn't the greatest. The lady pointed at the chair and didn't ask me anything and went straight to work very fast and rough not even a minute later she said "done. " as I was gathering my things she very rudely told me to look in the mirror. I felt a little uncomfortable so I said it's all good and left. I went for brow threading two weeks before my wedding and the girl took a good chunk of skin off the owner didn't say a word and the threader blamed me for not holding tight enough. Ive been threading for over 15 years and never been cut like this. Luckily I went to Unicutters on 34th and Yasmeen fixed them before my wedding! I decided to give them another shot, the next time went ok. But the time after that was horrid. She made them uneven and the owner just started blaming me for waiting too long. She literally said, "you can't wait 'awhile' and expect us to fix them for $5". I wanted to ask her, so what happens when someone who has never threaded, comes in? You do them like this? I hadn't even complained and she just snapped at me, very upsetting :( read more

Scalding wax, kept saying it was too hot, girl blew on it rather than adding wax to cool down or turn it down No sheet or anything to cover, wax dripped all over, paper only covered 1/2 of bed and when it ripped from the wax spilled everywhere it was not replaced. Someone walked in to room mid bikini wax. No apology, no privacy, no thank you. This is like a back alley waxing sweat shop. When you're done the girl sends you to the front with a post it note of your charges. Not a spa atmosphere. Just a joke. Spend a couple dollars more and go somewhere professional. I love this place! Thread my brows and upperlip for only 10$ It was quick and fast. If you have high pain tolerance like me threading isn't so bad. The lady did ask me if she could wax my upper lip, which I found it weird because they mentioned that threading is the better alternative because it doesn't damage your skin, but I insisted on getting it threaded. She told me threading would be more painful, but after it was done, it wasn't even that bad. The owner was really sweet, she asked if it was bothering me, so i said yeah, just a little, and she gave me some soothing lotion and an icepack to put on it. SO YEAH! Went there today for a brazilian.I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a good place ad this is not. I had two waxers, a small room, literaily they could not walk between the end of the bed and wall to the wax. No cover up, no asking what i prefer... No communication at all. My skin was not held taunt and no pressure was applied to relieve pain. It hurt like my skin was being cut off all over no matter what. And at the end I had some Oil put on me kinda...I realized i was also bruised in my pubic region afterward. Please go somewhere else. I will next time. read more

OMG DO NOT BELIEVE THE POSTS THAT SAY ANYTHING GOOD ABOUT THIS PLACE!!!! I'm from Ontario and I just moved here so naturally I believed all these posts so I went there. I see the girl that's about to do my eyebrows and I was shocked at how badly shaped her own eyebrows were so I got a little freaked out but I thought I might as well give her a chance. When I went in there since I didn't want her to screw it up I showed her a picture of how I want them shaped. She then said, "You know, our manager said that if anyone shows you a picture of a specific shape we can charge them $40 for eyebrows". And I'm like....uh ok? What is that even supposed to mean? So then she sees my reaction and she's like, "Oh, but this time we won't charge you that, I was just saying". Moving on...so she does my eyebrows and I look in the mirror. They're not even equal. They look NOTHING like the picture I showed and also there was stray hairs all over that she didn't do. Then I point out the top of one eyebrow which is like not even a straight like, it looks like hills. Then she fixes that and she keeps repeating "See, exactly like the picture". So I paid my $5 and walked out and will never go there again or listen to any reviews ever again. It seems like Edmonton doesn't have a proper salon where people can do eyebrows because is THIS PLACE is their standard then that's pretty sad. PLEASE!! ALL NEGATIVE reviews are filtered making this place look 5-star and that's the SLEEZIEST thing you can do!! I had such high hopes for this place. They had such a great price. I spent a lot of time growing out my hair so they had something to work with. Upon arrival I was tended to immediately, as no one else was there. I went into the room for the waxing and should have listened to my gut - LEAVE!! But I did not. For the next 20 minutes I would endure the most painfully torturous waxing session of my life and I have been waxing my whole life. They asked me to remove my clothes and I was ok.. . but asked first if I could have the traditional freshen up part....they looked at me confused ?? Once I was on the table I asked if they were going to trim down the hair, as it really was too long, again with the puzzled faces...? They said I could 'go to the bathroom and do it myself"(with a pair of huge sewing scissors). I say "they" because there was two of them...to apparently make the process quicker. They started with the legs which was painful enough. Thick coated wax, which was too hot, dripping everywhere, and was applied to my skin and ripped off in BIG LONG strips. The skin felt as if it was being ripped off as I watched them hastily apply and rip with the skin being pulled up with the wax. ... That was 'fine'... but when it got to the Brazilian it was the first time I was crying in my life - might I add this was not my first Brazilian. I asked if they could apply powder to lessen the pain, AGAIN with the faces ????? They went about ripping, pulling and repeating in 'difficult' areas.( I think because the hair WAS too long) I was bleeding like I had never bled before... it was horrible. They asked me to turn over and I just wanted to end this session, upon turning over ..I really felt violated as they had me practically doing a doggy style position. Literally face down a** up. The wax was SCALDING my bottom as they both started to blow on me (there - center local) trying to cool it down. I WAS MORTIFIED!! It was the most uncomfortable experience of my life and I was traumatized for quite sometime after. Upon arrival I had also requested under arms be added to my service but ultimately denied the service after experiencing their unprofessional hand and manner. My clothes were strewn onto a dirty chair and I was given a bottle of oil to remove all the leftover wax. They continued to speak in their language...occasionally demanding-ly reassuring me that 'it's OK!!' I just wanted to get out of there, so left with sticky jeans, ruined under garments and a lighter wallet. Upon leaving the woman at the front desk proceed to criticize me by saying I was putting on a show... that I was teary eyed because I did not want to pay.... that waxes are painful and I should not have gotten one, that they did 'hundreds' of waxes a week and no one ever had a problem!!??? ... she also said 'my act would not work here and I had to pay"... I was even more upset.... as paying wasn't the issue! I gave them my $100 crisp bill and vowed to never go back. I think I even left them extra as I was just SO insulted!! I haven't been for another wax session in general, since... And this has been well over a year. I'm thinking about getting a leg wax today ...( not here of course)... I'm new in town and did some research over the web....their web site is much more impressive than the actual salon. The main entrance was ok but than the waxing room was dirty. I should have walked out!!! My mistake. They tagged team waxing my lower legs, which hurt terrible but I was like ok I got threw that but than they were going to do my Brazilian.....I insisted only one could do it ....wow the most horrific pain!!!! Left me with welts, and skin ripped off from going over the same area... I was bleeding!!!! I've been doing waxing for over 20yrs and this was the worst ever.
