Consistency, even with the guys who abuse the grass at the tee boxes they keep it looking good. (ps: hitting off mats properly is much better than grass no matter who you think you are ) Tee boxes: 10/10 Bring a range finder if you're a numbers player. Sometimes there can be a 1 to 5 yard difference from the posted yardage. You will need a Sand Wedge and Putter, a 3rd club could be a 60 degree or a PW. I wish there was a chipping practice area like the El Segundo Lakes course. Great experience! Felt like a resort in Arizona. read more

Ok, so the good. The course is very njce! The fairways are narrow, but when you land in the middle, you are rewarded with a nice surface. Also, if you can drive the ball, then this course is for you! Very firm fairways so if you land it, go ahead and add 10-20 yards to your drive if you don't just pop it up. The course is very well kept. I didn't land in any bunkers but my wife did and she said the sand was firm and easy to get out of. The greens are large, and while some people complain, those are the ones that haven't played a professional course. Greens are supposed to be large, so learn the speed of the green and land it close! The greens are also very well maintained, but Jesus they are fast! Now the cons. Bring water or food or something to nibble on. The restaurant isn't open and they don't sell anything. Albertsons is across the street so stop there first. Next, the pace is slow. There is no Marshall and the staff know nothing about anything, so don't bother asking. Expect 2-2.5 hours, but if you can, walk it! It's really a nice one. The fairway firmness is great but the greens are rock hard and fast! If you have a 60 and can use it, use it! Plop it on. But if you skull it or thin it, it's not catching and you're going to fly off the green. It's like putting on a cement floor so it's very fast! This goes back to the pro for a second but when you're practicing on their putting green on the first hole, you might think it's not reflective of greens on the course..... it is, so figure out the speed there! Last no driving range to warm up at. Overall, great course, but with no food and drink and such a slow pace of play, it's a bit overpriced. Should be 25-30. We would play again. This course does need a marshal though. I recommend it, but don't say we didn't warn you! read more

Gave this place another shot considering how close it is to my home. I do got to admit things have changed drastically at this course for the better. Management is amazing , they make checking or booking a tee time very easy.They also now have a food court and a huge alcohol selection to make playing golf that much funner. Is there such thing as 2.5 Stars? Although the service was pretty good here, and this course is a welcome reprieve to the local community, I just can't round up. The course is in poor condition (brown patches, lousy grass in the fairways, no sand in the bunkers, disgusting halfway house that looks like it was built in the 50's, et al), I can't rate it any better. The layout is a decent challenge (water, bending fairways, bunkers strategically placed). However, there are too many holes that are similar, the greens are huge making it difficult to hit the ball close to the flagstick, and there are no water fountains. In addition, there are signs everywhere stating no outside food or drink, but the snack bar closes @ 4 pm. What about b'ness types like my friend who invited me, that likes to squeeze in a round now that the days are longer? Some positives are that we played in four hours, and most of the people seemed cool. I would actually play w/ my friend again here bc its cheap. But as far as being a regular place I would cone to, there is no way: The negatives far outweigh the positives. read more

This is place is ROCKING! It is becoming to full capacity 5 days out of the week! This is due to being a fair course, and the new starters being congenial 100%! But they will accommodate you if you are patient enough when you show up with NO TEE TIME! When I go solo , I'll wait about 30 mins; this allows me to get a bite to eat at the coffee shop. Pace of play was terrible. We had a group in front of us who did not know how to play. One or two of them did not even have their own clubs so they shared with the other people in their group. They hit multiple balls each, sat in their carts for no reason instead of teeing off. One guy was actually dancing around on the tee box. These guys held up multiple groups behind them with their nonsense. We called the clubhouse twice to complain. They sent someone out to speed them along but he didn't do anything. Instead he came back to us and took their side by saying they were new to the game and didn't know how to play. I'm in a 16 man group who play every week. Me and the guys in my group won't be going back to play this place again. The overall set up of the facility appears to have been laid out by people who are more concerned with corporate types who are focused on having a cocktail or brunch rather than by golfers who want to play golf. read more

i play this course atleast 2 times a week for the past 2-3 months. although the course itself is well maintained, the guy with the nose piercing is extremely rude and uptight for no reason at all. i have spent close to a thousand dollars here playing the 9 hole and even the par 3 course. even when there are no groups behind or ahead of me, nose piercing will call out a marshall to make sure you aren't replaying any holes. keep in mind this is at 2PM on a monday with barely anyone at the course. i've also played the par 3 and wanted to replay a hole because it was completely empty and he comes out at 8PM telling our group we can't replay any holes. every time i have ever called the pro shop, he has been extremely rude on the phone for no reason at all. read more

I have played here numerous amounts of times and this course use to be fun and a challenge. Now its run down over priced and the bunkers are rock hard over ground the grounds keepers have zero respect for golfers and they will blow dust and weed wack right at ya with zero cares. The greens were flooded with water in certain areas in just about every other hole. So many dry spots everywhere. This was extremely disappointing and seen better golfing at a Par 3 course. The water areas were filled with alge and the once cool koi fish have probably died. Once agian the bunkers were thee worst case of poor maintenance and lack of supervision I have ever seen in all my years of golf. I dont write yelps unless the place needs to be avoided. Whoa! Not sure I've ever given a course 2-stars before. I hate to do it, but maaaayyyynnn! Yep Yelpers, I hate to kick a course while it's down, but I am the self-described objective yelp-reviewer and let's just call a, uh, a mule of a course not a horse. So, if you've ever been to Industry Hills Golf Courses, you'll understand that Montebello Golf Course is the ugly rude step brother to the beautiful and elegant twins that are Industry Hills's twin sisters. The facilities are oddly similar: both in towns in LA where you could live in LA your whole life and never have heard of them (Montebello, Paramount, Downey, Bell, Industry ...), both attached to weirdly sterile corporate hotels that have changed hands many times; both hilly and narrow; both have double decker driving ranges that are oddly inconvenient and separate from the course on the opposite side of the parking lot. The difference is that Industry was described by Tiger Woods as his favorite course (the Ike course, me thinks) and Montebello is described by me as the quintessential dog track. Now I've been told to look at the positive in life, so let me just say that the parking is epic! And playing golf with you friends is great whether you are at Fairmont Park in Riverside and having to make sure junkie prostitutes don't steal your tee shots or you are playing in the member-guest at Oakmont. So let me start with something positive: There is so much parking, and well marked spaces, too. The parking is really great!!! Take advantage of the parking! :) Caveat: I played in Nov of 2020 during Covid times, AND the greens were just punched AND the tees were up because they are working on the tee boxes (and hopefully improving the course). I will update this review if I play again, and before I dive into the negative, let me say that if this course played it's full length and had reasonably nice greens (which they very well may be when not punched) this would be a barely acceptable course. There were some interesting holes with dog legs, and slopes and I actually liked the way some of the short holes protect par with hazards. Examples: #12 a 320 yard dog leg left with water on right, a small raised green and bunkering; a short par 3, #6; #8 that requires a fade tee ball; and #9 a short uphill par 3 that is completely guarded by a deep front bunker; there is even a 461 yard par 4. HOWEVER, the condition is Le Doggy Track (that's French), at least the day I played it. The bunkers are muddy and the fairways have huge hard-pan dirt areas. My foursome played winter rules, as should you (lift, clean and replace on a piece of grass, if you can find one). Hitting a 285 [I know I know, amazing, right?] drive down the middle of the fairway and finding that your ball is on hard dirt is not wonderful. C'mon! And while there are some moderately nicely laid-out holes (listed above) most of the holes are unimaginative and wonky and/or just straight-away. Now, here's the thing. I paid $32.99 to walk on a weekday. So, no, it's not fair to compare this course to Industry Hills (which is at it's cheapest $60, often more), but it is actually the same or a little more expensive than the LA City Courses. I can play Hansen Dam for $29 and have a full length course that is in good condition and is out in nature. Montebello has the feel of being crowded and surrounded by the city because it is. The ugly houses that line the exterior fairways give it a strange feel as does the freeway noise. The bottom line is--No, no, no. Unless you just can't get a tee time at Wilson, Harding, Hansen Dam, Rustic Canyon, Encino, Balboa, Woodley Lakes or a nicer course if you don't mind spending a little more ... should I go on? why would you ever play this course? The good: Parking; the young lady working by herself during Covid in the pro-shop answering the phones while simultaneously checking people in, all with a big ole smile on her face. Bravo!; The Armenian Genocide monument across from the entry. Check it out. True History. The bad: The golf course; the fairways; the bunkers, the surroundings. Driving range needs a lot of attention They close at 8PM so if you come at 7PM expected to see the one employee they have working their collecting balls from 7-8. This happened to me a last week, I came Friday at 7PM to find a sign on the window that said "on break back in 30mins" I waited till 7:45PM and the guy was still out there picking up balls, luckily a group of people ask if I would like to finish the balls they had left over. I hit a couple berths lights went out. Never coming back until they have new ownership. read more

This would've been my first time playing this course but after todays incident I will never ever come back or recommend to any golfer. Going into the long weekend, my foursome took the day off work and reserved a 9:10 am tee time today (Friday). This tee time was reserved one week prior through the pro shop. Got my confirmation and my group planned accordingly and looked forward to the day. On the day of our tee time, I arrive at the course at 8:25 for my 9:10 tee time. I head to check in at the pro shop and the employee asks if I'm part of the tournament. I said no, I have a 9:10 foursome. He then says we have a tournament today and golf now should have emailed me a cancellation. I immediately tell him I made the reservation through the them. They look confused and tell me that due to a tournament all tee times are canceled. Never in my 10+ years of golfing has this ever happened to me. I asked what happened and they explain the tee time should've have not been available. Now mind you, I called the course one week in advance and booked this tee time. If they have a huge tournament on a Friday set up, I would have to believe the course should've known months in advance. For them to book me and confirm a tee time that is not available seems absurd. If they made the mistake, at least contact me asap so I can make arrangements. With finding tee times being a treasure hunt nowadays, our group was relieved and had no reason to look for backup plans. I asked the pro shop what they are willing to do to compensate for my time and plans, not only for me, but three other individuals. They tell me they can give me a small range bucket. Are you kidding me!!!! I say that's ridiculous, then he provides me a gift certificate for a foursome with no carts. I can go on and on how this course ruined four people's Friday before a long weekend and they seemed the least bothered by it. I tried to contact the course manager to let them know what I experienced on their property/business and there's no one they can direct me to. I hope anyone in there management team reading this can reach out to me and make this right or least learn how to run a golf course so no one else has to experience this ever! A good experience overall for Montebello C.C. minus the aeration of the greens right now. The greens are horribly bumpy and slow right now...but I'm sure it will get better soon. The fairways, tee boxes, etc were in good condition. The starters were cool (thanks for good rates). Fast ELECTRIC CARTS are great too! Be careful for the gazillion sand traps and squirrels that will jump into your cart and rummage through your lunch bags and food when you're teeing off (those bastards!). Make sure if you're hungry at the 9 hole turn that you call the restaurant to place your lunch order. It'll take too long to wait for if you don't preorder. We called for 4 burgers after the 8th hole and the burgers, fries and food were all ready for us when he got up to the 10th hole. The bartender/restaurant togo waitress was nice. The fries are AWESOME and my BBQ pork sandwich was good too (see picture). I don't recommend the BBQ pork if you're golfing though cause the yummy BBQ sauce is oozing out of the sandwich and you won't be able to grip the club for your drive if you have the sauce on your hands (from personal experience here). Only reason I gave an extra star was the guy i spoke with on the phone was friendly and very accommodating. The girl i dealt with at the pro shop, not so much. Booked a tee time for a twosome using the Tee time app for 1pm on a Saturday. Showed up to the course and checked in. I had prepaid for both of us so no big deal. My third buddy came and checked in after us and grabbed a cart. He asked me how much I paid. I think it was $45 per and he said he got his for $32 I think? I went back to the girl who checked us in to ask why the price difference when we had the same tee time. She said," oh I guess I made a mistake. If you want, tell your friend to come back and I'll charge him more". Seriously??? At least some kind of effort to give some kind of intelligent or thought out answer before opening your mouth. read more

Fairways- very hard turf. Sand- very hard. Almost packed mud. Greens- above avg. 3 hrs walking. I felt the area needed lawncare, and more sand in the sand. But i'll definitely return. Since Joseph L wrote his review, Montebello Golf Course has improved immensely. Management has hired a respected maintenance crew. The knowledge on how to improve the landscape is noticeable. The greens are being maintained to near perfection. We are seeing that fairways are slowly but surely showing growth where there was once a hard pan of just dirt. Although some of the bunkers are truly in need of sand, we have been assured that sand is on its way. So as a regular player at this jewel of a course, I highly recommend coming out to play a challenging round of golf before it is destroyed and changed to a nine hole golf course with a Top Golf driving range facility. Been here a couple of times now (driving range). Plenty of parking, but I would recommend parking closer to the putting green area. I've seen balls going over the safety net and landing in the parking lot. The range is divided into 2. Theres an upper deck and an lower one. The dividers between each golfer is rusty and the stand where you lean your bag is the same. Its $12 for the biggest bucket (I think its 135 balls and the guy usually tops it off for ya). Theres also a bunch of stray cats there. They hang around the putting area. Over all its a good range. A little bit dated and needs an makeover, but it works. read more

Golf course condition extremely bad; for the exception of green which was decent. Course Marshall was extremely unprofessional and doesn't understand course pace of play. We were harassed for not keeping up with group ahead considering they were 3some and we had 5some. The group behind us were 2 holes behind and he kept telling us to keep up the pace. Finished the round in 4.5 hrs which is great time since it was Cart path only. Get rid of that Marshall!!!!!!! Played the course on May 31, 2021 with a foursome. We have played here over 10 years now. Very disappointed with the condition of the course today. Our cart had trash still left from the last user. Tee areas were rather dry. Lots of unrepaired areas on the fairways and the sand traps were a muddy mess. Don't understand why we have to start on hole 10 when playing 18 holes. This doesn't sinc up with our computers. Not impressed today. read more

Always played here with a group of 10 or more and today one of the employees (Hispanic) told one of the group to quit during hole 16. Then he told us to quit while we were already finishing the 18th hole. It's not that he told us to finish, the issue is the way he approached us to finish during the last hole. He was rude and unprofessional. I understand they need to close but needs to be more polite to paying customers. He needs to understand that we are paying customers and we all pay for his salary. read more

They have new staff. When Octavio used to be there he would sanitize and bleach golf balls for the golf range and now they are awful. Lanes are dirty, grass is dying. The range is dirty, only 3 markers and there used to be a several flags/markers on range before. The restroom is insanely disgusting.. still only one stall open and it is filth. We have been there 3 times since they opened back up due to pandemic thinking it would improve .. Every visit is worst. Will say the staff is very nice and polite. Read some funny stories on here about Golf Cart Guy. Well, Golf Cart Guy, if the same dude, just added to his legendary Yelp status. Friends and I were part of the Evergreen Church tournament. We had a 10:40 tee time, and were told we would be teeing off early. We were told to get our carts, and get out to the 1st tee. Golf Cart Guy tells me to wait 5 minutes (didn't really tell me, just held up 5 chubby fingers). 10 minutes later, he holds up those same chubby fingers. Another five later, we finally get our carts. On to the review of the course: Fairways - lots of tight lies and bare spots. Friend actually hit to a bare spot and from the tee, it looked like a bunker. Water holes - a few holes with water bordering the greens. There are a couple where you actually have to carry water to get to the flag - love those holes. Greens - rolled true, but on the slow side. Course length - please hit from the whites if you only drive it 220 to 260. Please hit from the ladies tees if you hit less than 220. Thank you for keeping play at a reasonable pace. read more
