I never crave Spanish Rolls until someone brings these to a family party and i'm reminded how delicious these are and go on this rampage seeking every bakery that would possibly carry. After attending a graduation party where these were present, I was once again a mission. I went to Bella's bakery in Lathrop on my way back home and was underwhelmed with the location and the decor (or lack thereof) of the bakery. I almost questioned whether or not I wanted to proceed with purchasing after walking in and seeing a desk littered with paper, an empty car seat tucked in the corner with random storage boxes and a less than desirable display case showcasing all their treats. Hmmmm.... I ended up getting a dozen pre-packed Spanish Rolls and a dozen puto which is a Filipino rice cake. Unfortunately, it was 2pm when I stopped in so even though the rolls were made earlier that morning, they were hot out of the oven which is the best time to get. I put them aside and knew I'd dig into them when I got home so I can heat them up before diving into. 2 hrs into the ride, I started to smell the sweetness of the rolls...yummy! When I initially set them on the backseat, they were in a shaded area but the sun had slowly warmed them for me which made them a perfect temperature to eat. Try eating one of these when they're warm...impossible. I didn't have the Puto until the next day and they were pretty good. Dense but very delicious and will always remind me of my childhood. I'd give Bella's a solid 3 all around. Product is great but when the front of restaurants or bakeries are not appealing and look unkept, it just makes me question what their kitchen looks like -- and that's an issue for me. read more

I've never actually been to this bakery, but since my auntie (family friend) owns it and runs it, and she always sends us loads of fresh pandesal or Kababayan bread (corn muffins) whenever someone from the family goes down there! Wonderful quality pan de sal and soft breads! Here's a tip: Put your corn muffin in the toaster oven so it is crisp on the outside and warm and sweet on the inside! Add some butter and you are in heaven!! read more

On our road trip back from San Jose, we stopped by at a gas station and right next door was this bakery. It's a pretty simple bakery. It was in the early evening and I know bakers usually do their magic early morning. At the time walking in at this hour, there were a few baked goods. I can only remember the Spanish rolls. The Spanish rolls do taste like they were made in their bakery, but they were packed in plastic bags for you to just take home. Which can only mean they were probably baked earlier in the day. But it was okay. I wasnt having high expectations since it was early evening. These kinds of bread usually are baked early in the morning. Maybe next time when I can come in earlier....I can write a proper review. Not bad really. read more

(their my most favorite by the way ;P) The owners are really nice and friendly. Price don't even come close to how much we pay on gas. Like come on now! Location used to be a couple stores down next to the ARCO gas station, but someone told me they moved next to the IN N OUT warehouse? I'm not sure. Me and my family always hit this place up when we're in the area. Over the weekend we stopped by here on our way to Tahoe... We picked up some pandesal, spanish bread, and kababayan. I love the spanish bread and kababayan...both are sweet but not toooo sweet. Hella filipino...but tell me why the pan de sal lasted us a whole 3 days? Three days worth of chicken spread stuffed pan de sal. HAHA. The very thought of mayonnaise makes me sick now. Anywhoo..minus one star for random opening/closing times. There have been several times we've visited when it should have been open but was closed because they sold out... It's better when you call ahead of time and reserve your orders!! read more

This place has delicious bread!!!! We literally drive 45mins to get pandesal and senorita bread here. Better than Valero's for sure! Their bread has a softer texture and not as brown on the outside which I think makes it 100x better. We have also bought the Kababayan bread which is more muffin like in texture. It is also yummy. My kids and husband love it!!! I also love that they are open early. I wish they had a branch closer to the bay area. read more

I'm going to keep this review short only because a few words is needed. THEIR SPANISH BREAD ARE THE BEST!! I've tried so many Spanish (senorita) breads in the Bay Area, LA.. Heck I even go to school in the Philippines and I am yet to find a bakery that has Spanish bread that is as good as Bella's! Come early in the morning (especially on the weekends) cause there is always a line. It goes by fast, but their Spanish bread sells fast! You can order it hot or cold. My parents always order their pandesal bread also which is light and fluffy with the crumb dust on it. Perfect for throwing in spam and eggs in or butter and sugar (haha super Filipino). We also order their muffins (I think they're corn muffins) which are super good! If you're ever in Lathrop, or in the area, or even on I-5 and happen to be around in the morning.. grab a few dozens of their baked goods! read more

It's as close to authentic Filipino pastries customers can get. Growing up in the homeland, I'd take pan de sal and dip it in hot, creamy coffee. Spread some butter when I slice through the roll and MMMM... Sometimes I'd take a slice of Ques-o (not trying to be edgy or cool in my spelling, it's really the brand name of the cheese I ate), use it as my "palaman", then dip it in hot coffee too. Bella's Bakery reminds me of my kind of soul breakfast. Their recipes for pandesal and the spanish rolls are the real thing. They're bigger in size of course, but much, MUCH bigger in flavor. Because of this store, I don't have to wait to visit Manila 'til I can have some of that authentic pandesal. Protip: I'm pretty sure I spoke w/ the owner (my bad if I'm mistaken) and he said that the store opens at around 4-4:30 a.m. The baked goods are super fresh by then and he invited me to come by to get some pandesal at their freshest. Friendly people. This was about a year ago and I can't remember the exact time, but the opening time mentioned was definitely before 6 a.m. I haven't been there in months, but the last time I was there, they didn't take credit cards. we used to come to this bakery when I was in high school .. and every time Im in northern CA, i try to stop by on my drive from Vegas. The family owner hasnt changed, and the recipe is still as delicious as we all remember. I love that they all work together to make this all a success and have not changed their location so everyone will be familiar with them. Bellas Bakery is the only Filipino bakery that I know in Lathrop and great Family business . I love the whole family , so humble and very kind hearted . You have to go right as they open, as there's nothing going better than their fresh made bread. I've only had their senorita bread and pan de sol, but both are good, and better than most other places I've tried. You have to eat their bread fresh and hot though, as a few hours later it will start to get hard and chewy; but you'll gobble it all up after the first bite, so it's not like that's a real problem. read more

Living in the Bay Area for almost 10+ years, we had the luxury of Filipino food. Thus, we thought we've lost all hope living in the Valley in finding a great place for Filipino baked goodies. BUT! Thankfully, the husband was able to find this hidden gem, and now we're going here every week for their pandesal, Spanish bread, and kababayan. This place is amazing! Sure, it's located next to a gas station but I think that's what also makes it wonderful. Definitely a hole in the wall! Price is great! Wonderful customer service! Carb overload and worth every single bite. This is fresh Filipino breads at it's best, and not that wrapped up Goldilocks crap that's been sitting for who knows how long. Bella's is the real deal. FYI: get here early to get the goods fresh, otherwise you'll have to do the reheating at home. Bella's bakes all kinds of goodies, but my favorites are the pandesal and spanish rolls. Only place I know that bakes filipino breads fresh, yummy and locally. Unfortunately, not local enough for me to pick it up often but when I'm in the area or have a serious hankering for pan de sal (roll great with anything inside, butter, peanut butter, eggs, you name it), spanish bread (roll with butter and sugar inside) or kababayan (like a cornbread muffin), this is where I go. Inexpensive and delicious, can't be beat ! Go early and its still warm and fresh, its fine reheated but later in the day they might be sold out, just FYI. I wanted to find a place that sold "Seniorita Bread" or in this case "Spanish Bread" near me. I've tried going to different places for this bread and I have to say that Bella's Bakery's Spanish Bread is very Yummy!! I will be referring my family and friends to come try it themselves and I know they will not leave disappointed. My only drawback is that I wished I would've asked for them warm since I bought them cold. But if you buy a bag and take it home, like I did, you can always heat them up for 10 seconds in the microwave. read more
