I was visiting my girlfriend at her office and wanted to get her some flowers for her desk. When I walked into Belle Fleur these folks were *hustling*. It was a buzz of activity as people prepared deliveries, put flowers together in arrangements and kept the place clean by sweeping away cut leaves and stem ends. The shop is not your typical florist shop with a fridge on one side and sample arrangements to another. Instead, this is almost a warehouse like setting with a small cashier/customer service area in the front - and that's fine. It's organized and it really gives you the scope of how much they do on a daily basis. It was quite impressive. I was worried the staff would be too busy to help me, but a really nice lady came up to me and asked me what I needed. I told her. She asked me two things: color palette and dollar limit. I answered both and she disappeared into the back for a while. Note: as I waited, at least three staff members asked me if I was being helped. They really want to take care of people! When she came back out she put together a *gorgeous* little arrangement and I was absolutely floored that it didn't cost more. She was very sweet as I checked out and I left very happy. I came to Belle Fleur just before Valentine's Day - an event where I hear it's traditional to buy flowers. As guy, it's not every day I receive floral arrangements, and while I like to think I have decent taste I was a bit out of my depth on this one. I really appreciate the time Belle Fleur took to walk me through my options, even though I was working on very short notice. I agree very much the Nadia F.'s assessment. We ended up using them for our wedding because I liked their style the best of all the florists we saw. But many of my ideas we met with strange looks and a pretentious attitude. They are very rigid with their style and ideas. Also, creativity was somewhat lacking. Yes, my flowers were beautiful, but I ended up with mostly roses in my bridesmaid bouquets (are there really no other lilac hued flowers available in the spring?). We also felt they were slightly overpriced. I was happy with how my flowers turned out, but I later went to other weddings with a similar color scheme to mine and their arrangements were gorgeous and unique with unexpected flower choices (not just roses and lilies - and I know they paid the same, or even less, than we did!). I regret not shopping around a bit more. Another friend of mine met with them when she was planning her wedding and felt the same pretentious vibe. I received an arrangement from Belle Fleur and OH ... MY ... GOD!!! I am not a girly girl. I am not the kind of person who typically flips for flowers. And I am certainly not a flower connoisseur. But even I could appreciate that this was not your typical arrangement. It was absolutely beautiful -- it contained flowers that I never would have thought to put together. The result was a completely breathtaking assortmentt of flowers with the most fabulous texture. I have no clue who at Belle Fluer put that thing together, but all I can say is KUDOS! If you truly want to impress someone with flowers, this is the place to go. The only negative? I didn't pay for this arrangement, but I was told that Belle Fleur is UBER expensive. Working with Ashley from Belle Fleur meant that I could describe my big picture vision of my personal bridal flowers, and confidently trust her to run with the creative details. I was married in the fall, and wanted a color palette very *non* autumnal fire. So I described what I did want for my personal bridal party flowers: deep wines, lush vibrant raspberries and a touch of soft whispery blushes, in an organic arrangement with garden roses, peonies, ranunculus, among others. Ashley totally ran with the concept and then some, all within the agreed upon budget, suggesting additional flowers and foliage and putting together a mini bouquet to show me where it was heading. Seeing her taste level and experience at that point, I gladly gave her creative license, and am completely satisfied that I did, from a creative as well as non-stress, super organized standpoint. Upon delivery, I was very happy with the bouquets and boutonnieres, and also received so many compliments about them. They were gorgeous! The one minus point is that my husband's (the groom's) bouttonniere didn't quite make it through the night, as the bud completely fell off its wrapped stem at some point during dinner. Additionally, my flowers did not get delivered to the recipient until 5pm when they were ordered with at least 24 hours notice. Go somewhere else... there was nothing top notch about Belle Fleur. Just ordered a $100 arrangement from them that was delivered to recipient for bday and although she was happy with the gesture I was embarrassed with what was sent... Considering I ordered over phone I did not know or obviously see examples of what is put together but trusted it should be fine considering the florist is on 5th ave.... I should have ordered off of 1-800 flowers for for the $ thats how embarrassing this place is... My fault for not going in myself.. They also charge a $25 delivery fee.. Sadly, they couldn't do our out-of-state wedding in my budget, but they are still worth loving because their prices are worth the beauty you get. Belle Fleur is my favorite florist in the city and I have tried many of the top florists (ZeZe, Plaza, Takashimaya, etc.) and I have to say that they do an outstanding job. Most of my clients are super chic, fashionable, and obsessed with design. The last thing I want to send to these people is either a gaudy arrangement that would look awful in their perfectly decorated apartments or to spend a ton of money and have some teeny tiny arrangement sent that makes me look like I cheaped out. Belle Fleur sends the right amount of flowers - always in a super attractive arrangement....and often with a few exotic flowers thrown in that most people have never seen before. I have literally called them with random requests like - please make sure the flowers will match a Robin's Egg Blue couch or make the flowers look like something in an Armani store (which is what that clients office looked like) and it was done perfectly every time. I came to Belle Fleur on a friend's recommendation after I was disappointed by boring, unimaginative quotes from a few other florists for my wedding. We had a small event with a City Hall ceremony and an evening dinner, and I needed flowers for myself and my maid of honor, and the groom and his best man, and then arrangements for the restaurant. I didn't want the flowers to overshadow us or our meal, but I wanted them to be more interesting than just some roses or orchids. At our first meeting with Ashley, I felt like she immediately understood us. she came up with a dozen creative, exciting ideas on the spot just from hearing a description of our event; she was very open to hearing what we had to say and easily adapted if I said I didn't like something she'd suggested. We ended up with arrangements that included interesting, seasonal garden-style flowers like ranunculus and dahlias, as well as fresh plums and grapes - they were absolutely stunning. Our personal flowers were presented in such a thoughtful way - the men each got 2 boutonnieres, a fresh one for ceremony and for dinner since there was a long time between the two, and my maid of honor ended up with a beautiful pin for her hair rather than a sad little bouquet or corsage. I came on to write a review because we had a spectacular wedding 3 weeks ago. Belle fleur came through in a big way. Not only were the flowers spectacular but they pulled it all together within 6 weeks. We fired the original florist, don't even get me started-that's for another review, and we found them extraordinarily professional and accommodating. I know a review or two mentioned that they seemed "a tad pretentious" but I met with both the owner and one of the girls that runs their weddings and they were pretty down to earth and more importantly, realistic. They took our ideas and added their expertise to make it gorgeous. They convinced me that some of my ideas wouldn't work and offered better solutions that ended up being more cost effective. Don't mistake vision for pretention. I think they have a certain standards to uphold and they try to work towards that end, I can dig that. I'm a landscape architect and if I let my clients design their own projects, I'd be out of business real fast. They hire me to guide and implement a joint vision and I'm sure it's no different with these guys. I originally went with the other florist because I was seduced (well, my husband was) by a better deal. Mistake! I went back to Belle Fleur because I've sent and received arrangements in the past, and they've always looked great. I actually had to order flowers for an evening corporate event and was amazed at how rude the service was. I asked for a "non bouquet" styled arrangement and receieved exactly that - a bouquet of white flowers (something you would see at a wedding, not a corporate, stylish, evening celebration). When I called to ask for something different - the florist took my feedback personally and asked me to come in and select what I wanted... I of course did exactly that as I was down to the wire on timing - but when I arrived - the customer service was a -1 at best and I walked away with 10 stems of flowers - something I could of bought for $10 at a local grocery store... less then impressed across style and customer service. I met with Belle Fleur for my wedding floral arrangements. I was very clear about my budget when we met and they made me feel confident they could work within my range. I was impressed by their creativity and "getting" my style and was excited to receive their proposal, however when I did, it was for more than double the budget I provided. I am not the type of bride that is willing to double my budget for anything, much less flowers. I am having a small, intimate wedding and my budget was sufficient for several other florists that I met with. Since I did like their ideas, I requested they revise the proposal and see what they could come up with closer to my budget. They were polite about it and assured me they would get back to me and then never did. I thought this was extremely unprofessional and could have been handled in a better way. It would have been better to tell me if the budget was not high enough to take the job but to say you will get back to me and never follow up is just rude. In a city with many talented florist, I would recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more
