The lack of care Bellhops uses to move customer's belongings, combined with the terrible customer service to address their gross negligence, will result in you paying 3 times the cost of the move to replace your destroyed furniture, for which they take no responsibility. The movers didn't wrap a large glass top dining table and dropped the whole thing --shattering the 1/2 inch thick top and the base is scratched beyond repair, scraped the entire face of a tall Restoration Hardware cabinet which can't be touched up without looking like crap so it needs to be replaced, they completely lost a full-size vacuum cleaner and a full size ironing board, and scraped and damaged the newly painted walls in the new home. The Bellhops move cost me THOUSANDS of dollars to replace the destroyed furniture, lost items, and damaged to my home. They refused to refund me for the horrendous "moving" service (it was more like a destroying service) and offered to give me .60 cents per pound for the destroyed property, which would have barely covered to cost of replacing the ironing board. This company is great. The move was easy, efficient, and quick! On top of that nothing of ours was damaged, and I had some pretty expensive furniture. Yannick, Colin, and Peter were very respectful, nice, and great at their job. Every step of the way we were informed of what to expect from the time I filled out the form online on their website, which was super efficient and easy to use. They took away the pre-move anxieties, and gave my boyfriend and I all the reassurance because we all know moving is never fun. That last move I did not use movers, and I remember the exact moment I said while dripping sweat, 'Never again.' They made the moving day so much less stressful and seamless. I've posted this on Google, already, but think it bears repeating. I've had an overall extremely negative experience with Bellhops. Booking the service was fine, but I received no confirmation other than an initial generic email and a text message at 10:30 PM the night before the move was to take place at 9 AM on May 3rd. The truck on this job ended up being two hours late and the two movers on the job ran out of staging to do at about 9:10. At 9:15, I was informed by my lead mover that the truck driver on this call had "an issue" and would not be coming, but they were working on it. My given alternatives at this point were I rent a U-Haul myself or reschedule completely. At 9:45, I was informed a new truck driver was found and would be there in 20 minutes. He did not arrive until 11 AM. The move ended up taking two and a half hours and finished at 1:30 PM. Lo and behold, I was charged nearly $200 over my quoted price for the time I spent waiting for a truck on their end, even though I never received a timely receipt via email, despite reassurances from the lead mover that I would not be charged for this overage and he would do everything to assist me. I'm now currently on hold, for the fourth or fifth time in a week, trying to straighten this out. I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated. Today, Joann in customer service finally managed to secure my refund, but I was offered no additional compensation for the delays or inconvenience. read more

This was the worst moving experience of my life. I would NOT recommend. I needed to move a studio apartments worth of belongings TWO BLOCKS. I was given an estimate of 2 hours and costing $250, which I believed was reasonable and could be done. It took them over 4 hours to move TWO BLOCKS and I was charged over $600. There is no possible way this move should have taken over 4 hours. I understand moving is not a science and it could have taken 2 in a half or 3 hours, but not 4. I moved from Virginia to DC in 2 hours. To start, the lead mover arrived 30 minutes early. The other mover and truck driver were not there yet and he clocked in - where they began charging me. So I was being charged for him to wait. Second, the truck driver did not tell the movers he had arrived, so they were waiting around for at least 30 minutes. An hour was wasted in waiting. They took over 2 hours to move furniture and already packed boxes over 2 hours to a truck. It then took them another 2 hours to move my belongings TWO BLOCKS. When we arrived at my new condo, they simply told me the couch would not fit through the door. I asked them what they proposed doing if it didn't fit and they just gave me a blank stare. I had to DIRECT THEM on how to move a couch through a doorway. They said they were "surprised I proved them wrong." After this exhausting and time consuming move, I was charged over $600. Utterly shocked, I complained. It took 3 days and three customer service agents to discount me $25 for the move. After going back and forth - the price was finally lowered to $400. To conclude - this company purposely low balls estimates and movers purposely go as a slow as possible to make money. read more

I recently had Bellhops help me move in the DC Metro area, and it was a mixed-bag at best. The move started out poorly as a clerical error lead to my moving team showing up to the wrong city. I understood it wasn't their fault so we pressed on. The team themselves were extremely professional and courteous. Upon unloading my furniture at the new place, I discovered that my couch was destroyed in the process of the move. The lead Bellhop apologized and took pictures. When I attempted to file a claim, that's when things got worse. It seems Bellhops pays out claims based on the weight of an object NOT on the value of the object. I have dealt with multiple moving companies before and have never encountered this method for customer reimbursement. Under this model, a $10k vase might be reimbursed at the same rate as a box of loose paper if they have the same weight. This is completely illogical and does nothing to help the customer deal with lost/broken items. Please be aware that if your items are damaged, you will most likely NOT be able to repair/replace them under the ridiculous reimbursement model applied by Bellhops. I will not be using Bellhops again and will caution anyone I know about their services. read more

Overall, I had a great experience with Bell Hops. The moving coordinator, PJ did an outstanding job explaining the services offered, and setting my move up, which was actually taking place only 3 days later. I had a large regional move so I was paired with a 4 man team who was assigned to loading my items up and a separate 4 man team who unloaded my items into a large storage facility. Both teams did a very good job caring for my items; however, one important instruction that I'd given to the lead of the load team regarding the transportation of my mattress, later I discovered during the unload, wasn't adhered to. Other than that, the men on both teams ( Joseph H., Keith L., Jonathan H., Terrance P., Demarkco M., Harold D., Abraham A., and Davon E..) were professional, timely, friendly, and worked extremely hard and consistently. More specifically, Harold D, the lead on the unload, did a phenomenal job coordinating the packing of my entire home into the 10x25' storage facility. It was extremely neat and nicely organized. In addition, the team gave special care in following the instructions regarding the handling and storage of my mattress. read more

Booked a reservation for Late August 2020. Nothing went correctly. The boxes were supposed to come 5 days before move in which was perfect... Until they came two days later sending my girlfriend in a panic thinking I had booked the wrong time... If that was it it I'd shrug it off as an accident or how would they know shes worried because it's our first home together and tensions are already high due to moving during covid, right? Apparently they also tallied the total amount wrong on their website. Giving a bogus number which they shrugged off as a computer issue. Then my card was charged... for nearly the entire price of the move... sans the reservation deposit... which then reversed a couple of times between my cards (because I don't keep a spare 800 just lying around just in case someone charges my card for nearly a grand) Then once that's happened I email them. Nothing. Silence after I explain everything and have the photographic evidence to prove it. Then I call saturday and wait on the phone while the guy on the other end whispers into the phone... ".. hmm. that'd be pretty bad..." and then I asked them to call me back when they found out what was going on. On monday I still haven't talked to anyone that knew anything and they said it wasn't in their system and that the computer "used to make mistakes and now it's fine..." They offered no probable explanations... no possible solutions... they seemed disrespectful of my time and my money.... at least I get to keep the boxes though. Pretty awful... oh and after telling them this they didn't take my card off to investigate... they kept charging the same account which was then closed pending review and amounted in about $40 worth of additional fees. The movers were friendly and hardworking. However, the administrative side of bellhops prevents me from recommending their services to others. The crew was smaller than expected from a confirmation email (two people vice three) and they showed up over half an hour late since they did not receive notice from BellHops corporate about my reservation time. When I received the bill I was over-charged for time and labor. Since the guys that moved me did excellent given the heat/humidity I wanted money put towards their tip not overhead. read more

I had 10 ITEMS damaged. Some of them had a marble top broken, lacquered surfaces scratched and wooden parts broken. Some of the furniture cost me more then $1100. One was a antique marble top console. Be aware Bellhops claim process for damaged furniture is based by the pound (60 cents by pound). So if you have a dinning table from Ikea or from Restoration Hardware you will get the same amount back. They don't consider the value you paid for your furniture. I have been moving to several places, 4 of them were overseas. Never I had so many damaged items like the one made by your crew. Bellhops crew was totally unprepared: they came late, not uniformed and each one came in a different time. The leader of the group was the most late. Usually they come together on the truck. Also they didn't have wrapping materials to protect the furniture. I had to provide plastic wrap and some blankets. I own a staging company and I have been moving furniture around and never seen a move so disorganized like this one. Because the crew was inexperienced they took more time then the one estimated. It was a moving from a 2 bedroom apt to another 2 bedroom apt were there was very few boxes because the breakables and clothing I moved myself. The distance between the apartments was one block away from each other. What was supposed to be a $900 (which was their estimate) move became more then $1300, I felt monetarily affected and I don't think is fair I am paying $400 extra for a poorly trained crew Bellhops provided. On the top of that, the 10 Items their crew damaged will add to this monetary loss. I felt material and emotional distress with this move made by Bellhops. When you hire professionals like I thought I had hired, you pay not to have this type of distress. This company contracts out its movers and its truck. Unfortunately, this has failed them. The movers showed up at my house exactly on time at 9 AM. At 9:15, we received a call that the truck wasn't come AT ALL. The movers told me this is the second time this week something like this has happened with the trucks that Bellhops employs. What an awful system. We spoke on the phone to a representative who was apologetic and offered to get us moved the next day at 8 AM. I asked her if we could receive a discount since we had payed $100 to reserve parking spots that day and $200 to move into our apartment early (on a weekend) AND we would both be taking the day off work to wait an extra day. She offered us 25%, which barely covered the parking spaces. When we called her back to say "sure, fine" to the 8 AM the next day, she told us they just couldn't make it work and they weren't going to be able to move us at all. Awful. We're in a lurch and they were the opposite of helpful. Context: we're not moving a lot. Two bedroom house with only furniture, all other possessions already moved. read more

After charging me twice the quote, damaging almost every piece of furniture due to not wrapping anything in protective blankets, and damaging 2 elevators my estimated $650. 1br apt. Move Is costing my me an additional $2500 solely because of the ineptitude of the movers. Bellhops offer of $800. Reimbursement won't even cover the damaged elevators and certainly not replace the thousands of dollars in damaged furniture. If you want to waste time and money with the bonus of damaging most of your possessions, Bellhops will be more than adequate for those needs. This was my worst moving experience by far. I booked a team of two with Bellhops 3 days before my scheduled move. One day later, I received an email confirming my appointment and scheduled time: Saturday at 5PM. Great! Now I can make my 24-hour, cross-country drive with peace of mind that when I arrive, I will have help moving my things into my new apartment. I arrived at my destination a couple of hours early (3PM) and gave Bellhops a call to inquire about whether they could come earlier than scheduled (5PM). I spoke with a young gentleman who reviewed my appointment and politely informed me that they could not come sooner than 5PM. Okay, no problem. I wait until 5PM - no one has arrived. Perhaps they're running late? 5:30PM - still nothing. I start to wonder if maybe they got backed up with other movers. No problem, that's understandable. But, no call to let me know? 6PM - no one has called nor arrived. I finally call the Bellhops line and ask about my appointment. The young gentleman informs me that he "doesn't know why my movers never showed up", apologizes, and says that he'll speak with his Operations Manager and call me back in 30 minutes to an hour. Now, by this point, I'm frustrated. The young gentleman (Chris) could not offer any logical reason for why my movers did not show up. Fine, maybe that team of two just didn't get the memo? These things happen. I'll just wait for the call back. 7:15PM - no one has called me back! Not only was my scheduled appointment disregarded, but once I have made the company aware of the mistake, I was forgotten again. Extremely poor customer service. I call the Bellhops line back and speak with Chris again. He apologizes and tells me he "forgot to call back, totally my bad". WTF. Chris is supposed to be finding my movers and updating me on the status of said movers. "My bad" doesn't exactly convey that. Continuing with the excellent customer service... So Chris now asks me if he can reschedule my move to the following day. Unbelievable. I just finished a 24-hour drive, I'm trying to move into my new apartment and now I'm being asked to wait another day when it was the fault of the company. I informed Chris of my situation and the need to get the trailer unloaded ASAP (the UHaul trailer was due back first thing in the morning, pending an additional charge; not to mention my whole life is packed away in the trailer behind a Queen size mattress that I couldn't move by myself). Chris says he will do his best to find a couple guys to come by that night, and if not, at 8AM the next morning. He then offers to call me back that night regardless of whether or not he was able to find movers, as a courtesy, to let me know when to expect a team to arrive. I say "that would be great, thanks" and we hang up the phone. Can you guess? No one came that night AND no one called me back that night! Making claims to your customer and then consistently failing to come through summarizes my entire experience with Bellhops. And in case you're wondering - no one ever showed up at 8AM the next morning. In fact, no one ever showed up at all that next day. I finally received a call from Bellhops (around 3PM) - and keep in mind, this was the FIRST call I had ever received from them throughout this mess - from a young worker who told me they would be at my apartment in the next hour or so. Really? I told them their services were no longer needed (I had paid the neighbor's son some bills to help me move my things into the apartment). When I told the young worker this, there came the infamous "my bad". Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Complete disregard for scheduled appointments, total lack of interest in making things right and correcting mistakes. I will be sure to never use nor recommend Bellhops again. read more

Not sure where all these great reviews are coming from but in my experience, this was the worst move I have ever experienced. My move was cancelled after I showed up because they did not have an available truck and only found this out 5 minutes before my scheduled move. When they were actually able to get a functional truck the next day, only one mover showed up on time. He clocked in right away although the second mover showed up almost 20 minutes late. Before the second mover could arrive, the first mover asked me to help him transport items to the truck. Although I thought this was very unprofessional, I helped in order to get to the drop-off location on time. At the drop-off location, they actually damaged one of my pieces of furniture as they dropped it from the truck. Overall, although the movers were friendly, there are higher quality and much cheaper moving services available. I would not waste my money on Bellhops movers ever again. read more

Do not use this company. Zero stars! It is a great concept and on the surface it appears cheaper. It is not. The movers do not know each other. They are assigned to work together and therefore they do not know each other's moving styles. During my move, the "leader" texted me super early to say he was on the way. He ended up being 2 hours later and high as a kite. I had a bag of nails that was taped to a table and he asked me if it was a bag of weed. Seriously? Bellhop, you need to test your employees. The other movers started without him and so by the time he got there they already had a groove and thank goodness because he was not safe to move anything. As a result of not having any strategy in moving, they damaged my wall and hallway ceiling. The worst part... they refused to pay for it to be repaired. I later discovered that they damaged the wood on my bed, the bottom frame on my kitchen island, and two pictures. They do not pack or wrap hardly anything. They suck and do not value their customers. read more

My experience using Campus Bellhops in Blacksburg VA several times was stellar. The movers were on time and very nice and polite. The moves, actually just loading up or unloading our rental van, went very smoothly. Fast forward to 2019 and this franchise location in the Washington DC metro area is unfortunately not the same caliber. Although the online reservation process was super easy to set up, the day of the move, we received a phone call canceling the move ONE HOUR prior to scheduled arrival. The reason given was the the move scheduled before ours took longer than expected. A day taken off from work was wasted. Do not use this mover unless your schedule is extremely flexible and you don't care if the company calls and cancels and tries to reschedule at the last minute. Needless to say we hired another mover, this time from Angie's List. Hopefully that will be a better experience. read more
