Have been going to Bello's for the past several years since Red Bull Arena opened. I make a point of stopping in whenever I am in the area. The staff is great. Always friendly and accommodating whenever we have any requests. Food is excellent and offers a range better than you would expect from a pub in the area. Prices are good and the beer selection is huge. Haven't yet attempted to try for the 100 beer name on the plaque but I see plenty of folks come in and add to check another beer or two (or four) off their list. Finally, it is super convenient to get to. Just a few steps from Newark Penn so I can easily stop in and then jump on the train home. There's street parking in the area and a pay lot across the street and next door. For Red Bulls fans it makes a great pre game stop because you can either hop on the PATH train steps away, catch a shuttle bus right across the street or take the 10 minute walk to the stadium. read more

I found Bellos on DoorDash... ordered from them, and found myself ordering again the very next night. The food was nothing less of AMAZING!!! I had the jerk shrimp wrap, caesar salad, cajun chicken sandwhich, little neck clams and cajun chicken penne a la vodka. Everything was tasty and delicious. Stopped at Bello's for lunch and drinks after Red Bull's match yesterday with a few friends. I was genuinely impressed with the menu and beer selection. Excellent decor and clean establishment. Based on a recommendation from a regular I had the corned beef sandwich which did not disappoint! Wing were also top notch. What impressed me most however was the customer service. Often times a soccer crowd can be loud and obnoxious and the service tends to be a bit short. I didn't find that all, the bartender was polite and attentive and the manager watching the crowd out on patio was very friendly. I wound up leaving my backpack behind in a rush to catch a transit train back home. I realized after I boarded and when I called found out they were closing soon. The manager set the bag aside and this morning the owner Manny personally packed it in a box and mailed it back to me! I live 1.5hrs away so the gesture was extremely appreciated. Saved my day! It's very rare you find that level of customer service nowadays but it's certainly refreshing when you do. We will be back to Bello's for the next NYRB game for sure. read more

It's a small pub. I was very surprise how well the food and drinks were. I would come back. I had two long ice teas and feeling nice. lol. I order mozzarella sticks and my boyfriend order the wings. My friend order the clams and shrimp dish. She cleaned her plate. The waiter/bartender was very nice and helpful. read more

Don't come here on a Friday at lunch time if you only have a one hour lunch break. It took about 45 minutes for our food to come out of the kitchen after ordering. They did give us another round of beers "on the house" after acknowledging and apologizing for the delay, but if I ever come here again it won't be on a Friday afternoon. read more

Bello's has an awesome beer selection. And by awesome, I mean 100+. It is great to have a place like this in Newark! Just note that the large selection is downstairs, while they only have a few on draft and in the bottle upstairs. Of course, there is nothing wrong with buying a beer downstairs and then just bringing it up to the roomier upper level. The food is really good, and the menu is pretty extensive for a bar. Manny and John are both really great, so definitely stop by if you are in the neighborhood. read more

I've lived in the Ironbound for 6 years and can't believe I just discovered this place. By far the best food in the Ironbound. Very friendly atmosphere, great service, they are extremely accommodating when it comes to dietary restrictions and have a ton of beers to choose from. I'd call it a sports bar, which is usually a last choice for me in terms of atmosphere; but in this case, and in Newark, it's a fave to be sure! read more

The food tastes ok except while sitting at a table we watched the wait staff refilling old ketchup bottles. We ordered tea to drink and they charge Full price for the refills somebody ordered the fish and chips in the restaurant and we had to leave it smelled so bad in there. One star for the Coors Light. Arrived 6:15 for a bite to eat before the Phil Collins concert. We sat at the bar (2 regular customers gave up their seats for us which was awesome) ordered 2 soups and 2 wraps. After a half hour, and several requests, we received our soup, which was very good. Now after 7, we inquired about our wraps to find out that they were GIVEN TO ANOTHER CUSTOMER. The bartender and waitress used the excuse that (I guess) they were busy because, "you know we have a second floor." Dinner tonight: chicken fingers and fries at the Prudential Center. Great atmosphere. Mixed crowd depending on when you show up. Some of the best bar food I've ever had. The cuisine is straight forward and to the point with large portions in most cases. If you order the nachos bring the offensive line of your local football team. Great specials that you wouldn't expect such as shark steak, and others that you would in a bar setting like the brisket sandwich. Join the century club and taste beers from all over the world. Bartenders are knowledgable and the owner is one of a kind (great guy). I strongly recommend the hot wings, or one of the many wraps they offer. Great for lunch or dinner. Kitchen isn't open too late so I'd advise no later than 930- 10 if you want to grub. But the drinks flow well into the night. Many folks are apprehensive about its location. Grow a pair and enjoy yourselves. Routinely patrolled by newarks finest, and is filled with fans from the prudential and red bull arena on respective game days. read more

Came here before a New Jersey Devils Hockey Game this past Sunday night. Nice warm pub environment. Wait staff did a great job keeping up with the amount of people inside. Had an order of nachos with grilled chicken... gotta say we demolished the plate. Also ordered a Jerk Shrimp wrap and a Bello's wrap. The guy driving me to my hotel said to check out Bello's with great food and 180 beers. How could I say no to that?! Had the grilled chicken sandwich and it was both delicious and enormous! The food was great. Everyone enjoyed what they wanted. However the only downside was that the service was terrible. Our waitress didn't check on us to see if we wanted more drinks, we had to walk over to the bar to remind her we ordered drinks. She was talking to maybe her friends and did a very bad job pouring Guinness stout. It was pourers so incorrectly it was all foam, did not apologize. Not sure if it's a thing in the East coast where they can't split bills but the can't do it. So make sure to let them know in advance to separate your tabs. Great food but bad experience. read more

Ate here on a Sunday evening in November. Not much of a crowd. Football was on TV. The upstairs dining room was closed due to the lack of patrons. We decided on MmmBellos due to the reviews here on tripadvisor. NOT disappointed!!! Clean facility. Friendly service, and a decent menu that concentrates on sandwiches, burgers, couple of salads, and a nice list of entrees. Chose to share a cup of French onion soup. Very yummy - good amount of cheese, the broth was good, and a fair amount of onions. I had the Philly cheesesteak. Beef, onions, green peppers, and american cheese on a hoagie roll. Very good - I might personally choose a different cheese, but was quite yummy as-is. My friend had the penne with vodka sauce & garlic bread. She liked it a lot. Had a beer on tap - the Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA. Delish. The beer selection here is a cut above for the environs, so while it's not cutting edge or all-encompassing, you should be able to find something you like. The bottle selections outnumber taps about 8 to 1. Paid $40 for appetizer (1), 2 main courses, the beer ($8.00, I believe) and the tip. Not a giveaway, but left full & satisfied. Would definitely go back again! There's a small terrace out front for warmer months, if you like to sit outside. Right near Newark Penn Station, as other reviewers here have stated. Oh - no military discount, which I always ask for as a retired mil guy. Always good to know, and sometimes can be a deal breaker, depending on other factors. After working across the street at Pru for a few years, my boyfriend became a regular at Bellos. I'm not a beer drinker, but they have an extensive selection. They have this thing called the century club, I think, for people that try all the beers, about 100 different kinds. And he got an awesome jacket to show for it. haha just kidding, it's the opposite of awesome, it's horrible, but a kind of fun little thing they do. The bartenders are really nice, and the patrons are usually normal people, although some times you get a really really drunk person at 3:00 in the afternoon (my boyfriend when he got laid off). I've never been upstairs so I can't comment on that. The food is typical bar food but the potato skins are really good. All in all, I highly recommend going to Bellos if you're ever in the area. I've been coming to this bar a lot recently and it's always a great time. It's more of a place to hang out and drink before the big drinks you feel me? This bar is da bomb digity though lol no seriously it's a great place! The staff is super friendly and really chill. I would recommend trying the sangria. This place is clearly unorganized! I called at 10:20 to see if they are going to be open at 10:30 because on Yelp that's what time it says that they're open and I was told by the bartender when I arrived that they can't serve alcohol till 11 and the kitchen doesn't open till 11:30!! This is after I called to double check and got change for the meter outside. She even saw me hang up my coat. I think that by her demeanor she didn't feel like serving us... It came off pretty racist. On the phone you're open and in person you're closed. The cook was even debating out loud that the kitchen opens at 11. Which one is it?! Based on the reviews, I was really hoping for a good experience, but unfortunately, I didn't have one. I met a few friends here to watch some football on Sunday as it was an equal distance from all of us. This place is literally across the street from Penn Station, which is lucky for them. The only other positive is that this place has a huge beer list. They have their available beers written all over the wall and they're categorized into the type of beer they are, so no matter what you like, you'll be able to find it. Now, onto the bad... The service was one of the worst I've experienced. For starters, our waitress didn't know anything about the beer or food. I understand that there are a lot of beers at the bar, but if someone asks you about a category ("what's a good brown or red ale?"), you should be able to have a go-to response. And if not, then the manager/training staff need to get their waitresses and bartenders up to speed on the beers. You can't call yourself 'Newark's First Gastro Pub' if your own employees don't know the beers. Also, when we had questions regarding the food, she didn't know the answer to them either. We're unclear if she was new, but even so, she didn't have any recommendation or answers to any of our questions. I ended up getting the potato soup and grilled cheese (without the bacon). The soup came out about 20 minutes before the rest of the food, and it was actually very good - perfect on a cold winter afternoon. Our food was taking extremely long when all we ordered was a grilled cheese, chicken fingers, and a chicken wrap. The food took over 30 minutes to arrive, which was really odd. When I got my grilled cheese and fries, the entire dish was COLD. I could tell that it had been sitting for at least 20 minutes, while the rest of my friends' foods were being cooked. When I told our waitress that my food was cold, she took it back and they just put the same grilled cheese back on the grill and burnt the entire thing. The cheese was that gross, soggy/hard cheese, where the outskirts are hard and the inside was gooey. This is now how I want to eat a fresh-made grilled cheese sandwich. Also, they put the fries back in the oven (or microwave) and they became rock-hard. It was honestly worse than eating leftover grilled cheese and fries that you nuke in the microwave the next day. I had about 3 bites of half of the grilled cheese and the waitress didn't even see that I barely touched my food or even came back to ask how it was. Overall, terrible service and food. They have an extensive beer selection, so if you don't care about anything else, then feel free, but I know I won't be back. read more

Always a great place to go for really good food -- made from scratch. The blackened chicken cobb salad is a go-to. The French Onion soup is the best I've had. The only reason no 5 stars is for the crab cake which was a little too greasy/fried -- not enough lump crab for 5 stars. However, don't let that keep you from going here. Came here prior to a Devils game. Dropped in with a couple of friends to grab a few drinks. I don't quite remember what we were drinking but for six beers and an order of cheese fries our total was $27. That's was pretty sweet. They also have a really great beer selection. I want to love this place because I live local, but I always get terrible service for some reason. Only ever see my server before and after eating. Had an empty beverage the whole time. Was going to get dessert one time but took her so long to get back I just passed. I don't know if it's because i'm younger(20 years) and assume i'm going to tip poorly so they treat me that way, but I serve myself so I tip better if anything. I'd love to have simpathy because I do the same thing, but they always seem like they don't care. Maybe ill go back in a while, but be careful who serves me. read more
