I've always loved Ben and Jerry's!!! The ice cream is always delicious!!! And I have never had a bad experience here. The staff is always friendly, welcoming and patient while my husband figures out what he wants. I usually always go for classic chocolate ice cream, but he likes to try different flavors. He's always loved everything he tried and I'm obsessed with their chocolate. I don't know why, but it's some of the best chocolate ice cream I've ever had!! I'm new to the UChicago team and we recently held an Ice Cream Social for several of our summer program students and faculty. The Ben & Jerry's team did a fantastic job! They were easy to work with, super friendly and responsive, and were really engaging onsite for the event. The team that set up and served the ice cream did an amazing job! THE WORST COOKIE SUNDAE I'VE EVER HARD IN MY LIFE... I wish I had read the YELP reviews before I came... Keep reading The cookie was stale, hard and I couldn't even eat it! So I went up and asked him if he could warm it up for me because I like to try and find alternatives instead of tossing the cookie... he said he didn't have a microwave. So then i went back to my table and tried to eat some more of the cookie but just couldn't (I forcefully ate like half of one). I was very upset that I was sold $7 worth of food that I couldn't even eat. So I went up and asked him if I could just get the money back because it's impossible to eat it. And this dude straight up said NO! He claimed I ate half of it already?!?! He must need glasses or forgot his contacts because I didn't even touch the ice cream at all, and there was a full cookie + half another cookie left. It was just a half cookie that was broken into pieces because I tried to eat some of it but it kept breaking! It was so hard and disgusting... my friend got the brownie special as well, and she said it was okay. it wasn't as bad as mine, so that's a plus. read more

I love Ben and Jerry's, but this location seems a little pricy and unpleasant. The older gentleman behind the counter was very grouchy. How can you be cranky around all that ice cream? We went there for my friend's son's birthday for a scoop. She asked if they do anything for children's birthdays, and the guy looked at her and said "Like what?" She obviously meant a free mini scoop, 1/2 off, email club or something. She explained that and he just looked at her. He didn't add to the joy in our day. But the ice cream did! We'll probably visit the gelato place a few doors across next time we want something sweet. read more

Going into a Ben and Jerry's should be a fun experience. After all they have just about the best ice cream on the planet. They have all the usual flavors plus one big one for me - simply chocolate. An white old male staff was incredibly rude to me, while I was the ONLY customer in the shop. All he has said to me were three harsh "No"s, without any explanation, apology, or any context. The line is usually long and moves slowly when I come in. My last time here was last Friday. The girl working was less than pleasant and when I told her I needed to order one more item she told me I'd have to get back in line because she already rang me up. Luckily one of the guys walked over and told me I could just pay and might have to wait an extra minute for my last item. I was glad he helped, and I would not have been leaving three stars if I was forced to get back into the ten minute line in this tiny establishment. What ever happened to service with a smile? Jeez when I come into an ice cream parlor, it "should" be a happy place because well it has tons of ice cream. That was not the case here. This place has all the traditional Ben & Jerrys decor, small sitting area and great cool flavors so I gave 1 star but the older dude serving up the ice cream looked miserable. Like just don't bother me, please leave miserable. It made me uncomfortable because I felt like I was a pain for ordering ice cream... that's a crappy feeling when you take your kids for ice cream. So even though the ice cream is great I will not be back. I can pick up a pint at my local grocery shop. read more

Ice cream is ice cream. But business owners represent the store - and this owner is ANGRY with the world. I live in the neighborhood and have frequented shop many times over past 17 years despite the crabby man behind the counter. My daughter is now old enough to go on her own and was treated like an annoyance. Before you act like a jerk to teens, maybe you should know their parents have been supportive of your business since these kids were babies. And word spreads quickly. We are done with Ben & Jerry's. I love Ben & Jerry's ice cream, so once I found out they had a store, I came right to the store! The location is perfect with other surrounding restaurants, small stores, and a movie theater. It's smaller than I expected but still worth it. The worker was very friendly and nice, there was quite a line and he was working alone, he did a great job! My stars are directly related to the product... not the service. You can't really go wrong with Ben & Jerry's ice cream, which makes it so great. Even flavors with stuff I don't usually like, taste pretty damn good. I tried a new flavor today, Peanut Brittle. It was very yummy. However, the service here is why I deducted points. The kid working seemed irritated that we came in and was VERY SLOW. I mean, I'm not expecting lightening fast service but how hard is it to scoop a baby size scoop for me? Also, after I got my lil baby scoop, my boyfriend ordered his ice cream and the guy never even asked what size. So my poor baby got stuck with a lil baby scoop also. I am always a huge fan of tipping whenever I can... And even had a dollar in my hand to put in their jar.. but the kids attitude at the register was so rude that I put the dollar away. I don't think I've ever done that before. It didn't totally ruin my experience.. but I had to question how a kid who works in an ice cream shop could be so miserable. 5 star ice cream... 1 star service.. = 3 stars for this location. read more

I am not sure if this is just me, but there are fewer Ben and Jerry's than I thought? We've been here several times before/after dinner/movies on the Glen and it has been pleasant every time. Of course, they have your usual suspects on the flavor list. Cherry garcia, man, cherry garcia. The staff here is excellent in serving quickly and patiently. Hint: read all the flavors on the right hand side wall to help when you are stuck in line. Absolutely terrible!! Ordered a cake and payed for it in advance and when time came to pick it up, they didn't have it. I therefore had no cake for my sisters birthday party. They offered nothing in the way of an apology or an attempt to remedy or make up for their mistake. They couldn't care any less. They still haven't refunded me and I will be filing a claim with my bank soon for fraudulent charges since they won't refund me. The cherry on top is that they are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive and give you a bad attitude to boot. Drove all the way out from Buffalo Grove only to find out they won't honor my birthday coupon from my phone. Their store policy is that they will only honor coupons from your phone if it has a "redeem" button on it. Even if I had known that, there's no possible way to find out in advance if the coupon has a "redeem" button on it, because Ben and Jerry's has the coupon set to where you can only open it one time. Once you close it you can never get to it again. I have used my birthday coupons here from my phone in the past. I obviously have an ID proving my birthday, in addition to the email that was sent to me. This is the only scoop shop left in the area, but with customer service like this, I'm sure this location is not long for this world either. read more

This review is for this specific location only. BEWARE - DO NOT ORDER ONLINE!!! I placed an order for a custom made ice cream cake 5 days ago. The order online went through fine and I also received a confirmation email. Today I went into the store to pick up the cake and it wasn't there. A man (named VITO) asked me when I ordered it, I told him and his initial response was "Well I don't have it." I explained to him that I ordered a few days ago and that I have confirmation. He didn't ask me for my name to try to look it up in the computer, he just kept saying "well I don't have it." I then asked for a manager and low and behold - HE WAS IT! Stunned that this man was the actual manager, I showed him the confirmation and he THEN proceeded to tell me "Just because you filled out the order form online does not mean that we receive it!" He could NOT be serious. ISN'T THAT THE POINT OF THE ONLINE ORDERING SYSTEM???? I looked at him so dumbfounded that he even would say that. He then just stood there and literally stared at me. AS THE CONSUMER, I had to ask HIM "ok now what?" And his reply "There is nothing I can do for you." I even ASKED HIM "You are not even going to be apologetic, or anything?" His reply "I'm sorry, what else do you want me to do?" I left there without a cake and full of anger. Thank you for ruining this special day for me and the family I was helping. I have reported this location and this "manager" to the corporate office. Look at the other yelp reviews!!! This MANAGER has been treating customers like crap for years!! Outstanding experience! The friendly girl behind the counter let me sample the ice cream and I ended up getting a delicious coconut one. I have always been a fan of Ben & Jerry's - their ice cream is so tasty, the flavors are unique, and although it's not healthy it's worth every calorie. The shop is cool in the fact that they have some different flavors that you can't buy. I also love how they promote fair trade, and that many of their flavors contain fairly traded items. However, the inside is small, the service was slow, and even somewhat rude. They should have more people working, and a smile would be nice. They are also really expensive - besides the unique flavors in the shop, I would be better off buying a pint from the grocery store. I would end up getting more for my money. I'm a Ben & Jerry's lover, but not necessarily a fan of this location. read more
